  1. Maybe they can slightly improve the bucket lift and propulsion speed though i don't believe there will be really improvements... Compare the slow speeds of the features of the 42009... Why should TLG now try to make bucket faster... Kids will be satisfied... And the jerky or better said crappy steering is caused by bad design decision and can not simply fixed. IMO servo Motor is completely unappropriate for articulated steering... And for AS you really Need no return to center because such models should be so slow in speed that RTC is quite useless or even contraproductive... Therefore using a servo for this is bad design and can not be fixed so we get a well working AS... Just my 2ct
  2. Hmm, very disappointed about this loader: seldom Seen such a crappy articulated steering but the servo is actually not appropriate for this task... And regarding the design: the old 8265 looks more balanced and therefore better... Also the even older 8439... A flagship i will pass for sure... The red truck seems promising more fun...
  3. would even seriously going into the idea to buy a second 8258 to build this beauty and display it besides his original brother ;-)
  4. Differencials Ackermann Steering Synchronizes Gearbox - well the Lego ones are not really synchronized if you take this term as it is (and what it means in real world) but cause of Lego i got the basic principle how a gearbox works by the important dog-catching mechanism of a gearbox Making workarounds
  5. ah, thanks for the hint - changed - now public...
  6. Here is my virtual collection: http://www.basebrick.com/showusers.php?s=Kumbbl (Click onto S under Items) or for rebrickable: http://rebrickable.com/profile/Kumbbl/sets (from last row on page 1 on the sets belong to additional set lists, so they are listed as duplicates... so my collection "is" page one without the last row) many are on display but about 20 sets are only for parts for MOCs...
  7. an incredible promo video for a book of an incredible builder - to each saint his candle
  8. the back view is the best - very chunky :-)
  9. Thanks a lot for this awesome "midrange" car model - you're a skilled builder - the density of functions in this quite small body is awesome... Thank you also very much for the BI - they remember at the good old days the official Lego instructions were not dummy-proofed and -save ;-)
  10. this is exactly the problem ;-) at least here in Germany you can say: used: you must be very lucky and very patient to catch one for less then 130€ - and all below 110 is a full bargain... most of them cost between 140 and 150€ at least new and sealed: nothing below 200€ typical prize is about 230, 240, 250€ IMO currently the most expensive OOP set - together with the epic 8258 a comprehensible opinion.... but i would only second this if you write "...together with 8258 and 8110" (and if you count the year 2003 too, then also 8455)... At least between 8043, 8258 and 8110 i would not rate one higher than the others and all of them must be slightly modified to work really well and with full fun... 8455 is IMHO fithout any flaws and works perfect out of the box - a real marvel (if you are interested in pneumatic ;-) Well, if you would push a gun onto my head and say "Rate" ;-), then i would say the 8258 is the "primus inter pares" - but i'm sure there are many people out there who would rate another ... ;-) BTW: The backhoe 8455 is quite cheap to get here in Germany - i have bought two used sets but in near mint condition (incl. box and BI) for about 65€ each...and i see quite often offerings about this price or slightly higher...
  11. I like manually stuff too but i also find that each model with manually driven LAs is boring or with other words: IMHO LAs need a motor, period. And for me there is no exception from this rule, period again. Manually turning a knob to drive LAs results in writers cramp, last period ;-)
  12. you would need Lego set 8293... Both sets are IMO quite boring concerning the building experience... but the crawler is at least quite fun to play with (or for your kids ;-) and it contains the rare and quite expensive L- and Servo-motors... But my recommendation from the currently available sets would be: 1. The unimog 8110: fun to build, many functions, motor and pneumatic included, very good parts pack, more or less same price than the crawler - AND: will be discontinued soon! 2. The Helicopter 9396: not the most intersting building experience but cool functions, easy and very good to motorize (also with Pack 8293) and also a very good parts pack - ~ same price as the 42000 or even cheaper 3. The Logging truck 9397: same as for 9396 plus already included motor AND: one of the best alternate models! Price ~ 80 - 90 € Just my 2ct
  13. clever but not clever enough ;) today i catched the snow groomer 8263 for 20€ - completely with very good box and BI... cute model for a really fair price...
  14. Erik, i appreciate your opinion here in this forum - but now i can not follow you - or with other words: it's all double dutch to me ;-) What is the fact? where do you see no leap forward? seems that i completely not-understand what yu want to express, sorry. maybe you could try to explain with other words...
  15. I couldn't agree more... And i couldn't express my feelings about the current direction of TLG and their release strategy in better words... Chapeau!
  16. yep - and this i good - but it is one for very young kids, maybe ranged from 6 to 8 - boring for kids about 9 and above... what i had in mind are sets like the epic 8094, 8485, 8479 ...
  17. let us agree that we do not agree ;-) and these education sets are way under-dimensioned to arouse AFOLs interest - there is really no sexyness within... suited for schools but nothing else...
  18. @Paul: absolute d'accord - but the skills and the capability of the technic design team of TLG to design outstanding models was not the question here, IMHO... the question is: should TLG be more creative and brave in their model-releases (you see the difference? productive releases and not internal prototypes or ideas) so not always the same wheeled vehicles with more or less the same mechanisms... long time ago TLG was innovative and brave with that respect... Universal sets, 8479, 8485, 8094, idea books 8888 and so on... Guys, you are right, TLG do market research and surveys and the main target group are children, no question - therefore it seems riskless to pump all this construction stuff and race cars in the market, obviously children like them - BUT you can see this also from the other side: IMHO a toy manufacturer like Lego could not only satisfy the extisting wishes of the childs but also it could try to influence in which stuff the childs could be interested - take a look at steve jobs and apple (well, this comparison is flawed, of course, but it can show what i mean): iPod, iPhone, iPad were all gadgets the market itself hasn't know they could be interested in - but Jobs had the vision that people could be interested in or even the MUST be interested in - even if they don't know it! I think most of us AFOLs have been kids ;-) and at least i can say: never underestimate kids and their natural candidness for many many things: kids have much more interests than just constuction equipment, helis and race cars - but maybe you must drum up their interest for other stuff - depends on the sexyness of the stuff - but i'm 100% sure TLG could deliver many many really sexy models having no wheels ;-) The same for more elaborated supercar mechanisms... and here i agree fully with lazylegoist: steering of lego models need indeed a strong improvement for good playablitly - Unimog 8110 is crap and some others too... by developing better suited parts for the undercarriage of cars TLG could kill two birds with one stone: enhancing the playability for the kids and satisfying the AFOLs (and also many kids aged between 9 and 13 i assume!) who wants a maximum of realism... Just my 2 cts...
  19. Not only thanks to sheepo but also to Jurgen for this really excellent BI because otherwise no one of us would be able to build this marvel
  20. thanks a lot for the impressive pictures.. may i repeat my question about the reliability of the shelby seq. gearbox to you you, Blakbird? you have build both, the landy and now the Shelby Mustang... could you already play around with the Mustang and so: can you already justify the reliability of the 3rd gen seq. gearbox? because driven by the servo motor i would assume that it should work at 100% - is this right?
  21. all axles have suspension - you can see it here: and BTW: one of the best designed studdless trucks i have ever seen ... the barrel is simply awesome
  22. yeah, just checked - i have 95% of the RC version... the main bunch of the missing ~ 200 parts seems to be quite cheap...
