I have two questions: 1. Jennifer describes on her webpage a quite nifty combined suspension of the second and third axle. You just mention the middle axle as suspended. Does this mean the third axle has no suspension? 2. What does the Term self synchronized mean concerning the outriggers? Thanks for this Hard work to blakbird and nychase! @nychase: why do you rank this crane above some other very impressing cranes which have recently shown here some month ago? What is the real special about it? Thank you also to Jennifer designing this beauty!

[HELP] Legal Building Technique
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
this is really no valid reason because very often it is quite impossible to separate two studded plates when clicked together - neither for children nor for adults... at least not less difficult than separating studded plates with more than 1 stud from technic holes... -
42009 Owners ... Speak Up!
Kumbbl replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i would doubt it because it has nothing special apart from being a beautiful model being huge and build from many many parts - and this set will also not being seldom... IMHO it will no play in the same OOP league as e.g. 8043 and 8110... but of course you will no loose any money because good and unopened MISB flagship-sets will always have a prize higher than the retail prize during production time.. just my 2 ct -
Another candidate for a really clever mechanism: the squeezing driven rotor spin of the Heli 4403 (not fully technic but contains a lot of technic elements and mechanism for rotor and landing gear): The mechanism to turn the rotor is really clever and in addition it makes the Heli very playable especially for kids: Squeezing the rear side panels on both sides (see yellow arrow in the picture) spins the rotor at a very appropriate speed. The back direction of the squeeze is driven by a rubberband and is in free wheel so it doesn't interrupt the rotor spin). After stoping the squeeze, the rotor keeps on turning for some seconds and is emitting a ticking sound.... in general the free wheel mechanism is similar to that one used in the 9396 heli... but the overall driving mechanism of the rotor spin is way better in the 4403 than in all other helis of Lego i know because this sequeezing (the back direction of the squeeze is powered by a rubberband) is much more playable (during holding the "flying" heli in your hand) than turning a boring knob... IMHO a very nifty and clever mechanism... In general this model is highly recommend - a lot of building fun and the build is sometimes really not easy... and it also looks great!

nicjasno has designed a complete new front axle for the unimog 8110 which performs very well: has much better steering and eliminates the very annoying bump steer of the original front axle of the 8110... highly recommended. But now i have a question about the used building technic - Please have a look at the following picture: Its a clever build and he uses a round bar 4L to connect thin liftarms by its cross axle holes. Would you judge this a legal building technic to connect liftarms by its cross-holes in other angles than 0 or 90 degree?

my favs are the dark green Lotus 43 and the new Williams... really awesome! one question to the lotus: some of the dark green parts are really hard to get... what would be your estimation: what would be a replacement color of dark green which would looking well too and which would quite easy to collect at bricklink?

Flagships 2000-2012
Kumbbl replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
well i should make one addition: My praise for the unimog 8110 is onyl valid if the steering/front-axle is modded, because the out-of-the-box steering is nothing less than crappy - actually a shame for TLG releasing such a steering... luckily it can be fixed quite easily (or even with a complete new front axle from nicjasno)... but with fixed steering (and maybe moved batterybox into the bed for better weight balance) the Unimog 8110 is really a Top 3 model... -

i would rank 42009 as high as the crane truck 8258... not as high as the 8110 and the 8043 - and also not as high as the 8455 (which i would rank at the same level as 8110 and 8043)...these three are the by far best sets of the studdless area until now.... -
Alternative Parts for Soft Axles
Kumbbl replied to Sheepo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
well, as already said, the 14L red soft axles are the problem ... they are only in the cars: - 8448: 1 - 8653 (Ferrari Enzo): 2 - 8145 (Ferrari): 4 Luckily i have 9 of them (1 8448, 2 Enzo, one 8145).. but look at this calculation: In germany currently there is only one seller which offers them: 20€ per piece In EU the cheapest one is ~ 10€ So i would recommend to look at used sets of 8653 or 8145 - the latter one is more expensive but if you are patient you can get it without box for about 80 - 90€ (at least half of the prize you would have to pay for bricklinking 4 of the soft axles) - the enzo is even cheaper: at least in germany you can catch one for about 50 to 60€ - if you are patient... Do this! because you will get these very rare axles. If you need the red angle #3 connector look at a used 8448 - it contains 10 (in addition to 1 14L red soft axle) - this old supercars are quite cheap to get - at least here in germany - if you are a little patient you can get one for about 50€... but also the 8070 supercar contains 6 of them (but no 14L axles)... to make a long story short: for these MOCs which use exzessivly red 14L axles and red #3 connectors it could be wise to look for one or more of these red supercars (incl. the Ferraris) instead of bricklinking them... you will get a lot of useful panels or other spare parts in addition.. Just my 2 cts -
Both 8110 and 8043 are way better than forthcoming 42030.... So my decision would be clear ;-) Apart from the really crappy steering the 8110 is a quite perfect set... Same for the 8043 because the latter One also needs some small and cheap mods to work perfectly... 42030 instead seems to become quite boring and seems to have an crappy steering too...

Scania R 730 Topline Model team
Kumbbl replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
great truck  The part list features 1 XL, 1 M and 3 Servos.... could you please describe the purpose of each of these motors (well, the XL and 1 Servo is obvious ;-) BTW: very well done instructions, congrats! Is there a video? -
these are great news... i admit i'm eager to get these provisional instructions... thanks a lot!

Hi all unimog lovers, i'm aware that there is an official 8110 thread but i admit i'm lost in finding the answer to my question about a steering fix in this hundreds of postings about the mog - a steering fix which is - easy to implement - a real improvement I know the complete redesigned front axle of ninjasco which performs outstanding but now i'm searching a cheaper solution for a friend... so: any recommendation how to (quite) easily fix this really crappy steering implementation of the 8110? which solution has performed well for you? Thank you in advance

[C-MODEL] 8110 Jeep
Kumbbl replied to MrTekneex's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If you like this one you should also build the 8258 C-model of the same builder: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=85965&st=50#entry1863103 IMHO an even more awesome and astonishing c-model than this Jeep...strongly recommended build ... -
Best B-Models of Technic Sets?
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
completely agree.. the fact, that 8880 offers such a great B-modell makes this set truly outstanding... -
i would second this... a carefully done photo sequence could already be enough and sufficiant to build your gorgeous crane... there are some MOCS out there where the BI is "just" a photo sequence (e.g. some models of Madocca) - for an experienced builder they should the job... But making professional and well stepped lego like BI just from a lxf file is indeed a horrible and too much time consuming job - this is already a fact for much much simpler models ... at least IMHO... to make a long story short: it would be great if you could make such a photo sequence when tearing apart your monster... many many thanks already in advance!

Your Best Technic Bargains
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
ladies and gentlemen, right now i made the deal of my life: - 8258 Crane Truck - 42009 Mobile Crane - 8043 Excavator - 8110 Unimog - 8109 Flatbed truck - 9398 Cawler all complete with box and BI and now please make a guess about the prize for all? Well, you will never guess this right... ;-) 350€ cash and with self pickup at home of the owner.. Now the question is: what should i do with this stuff - i already own all these sets... ;-) -
Hi all, sorry, if posting in the wrong subforum - didn't found anything else which sounds better suited... but please do not hesitate to point me to the right forum or topic - thanks a lot! my problem: If i load an lxf-file into LDD 4.3 (e.g. this MOC http://www.eurobrick...opic=90485&st=0) and if i step through the model in the instruction mode then LDD crashes after about 250 steps.... Anybody out there with a solution or workaround? Thank you in advance. BR

both shopes Toys R Us and Lego Store are not really cheap... well, probably much cheaper than official prizes in USA... i assume ;-) Often big warehouses like Karstadt or KdW (= Kaufhaus des Westens) have discount offerings also for lego sets... best would be: check ebay.de and try to buy some bargains there and let them ship to an adress in Berlin (if you know any, e.g. a colleague at work if you are on business in berlin)..
