Adjustable Spirograph
Kumbbl replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just one word, or better five: Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow!! One of the strongest communities i know... All of my praising to all contributers - TLG couldn't have done it better... BTW: such a spirograph could/should be one model of a forthcoming universal technic set.... unfortunately TLG has shut down offering such sets.. :-( -
maybe it would a solution to replace the Landy gearbox with the gearbox of this Ford Mustang: http://www.sheepo.es/2013/10/ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-14.html If i understand the description right then the Mustang contains a sequential gearbox next generation which work more reliable? But its just an assumption...

Spybotics
Kumbbl replied to xenologer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
anybody out there who has tried running the Spybotics CD/Software with a current PC/Laptop with Windows 7 using - an USB-Serial RS 232-Adapter - the Windows XP mode for Windows 7 ? -
a good decision, at least for some sets ;-) I do this for 8880, 8480, 8862, 9397, 8479, 8425, 8868... you see, most of them are quite old models.... unfortunately most of the modern sets do not offer a really good B-model worth to build, to say nothing of buying the set twice... maybe the 42009 B-model, currently i'm thinking about it...

First of all my congratulation to ALL entries - there are really no losers, but of course not all can be the winners ;-)- Here is my voting: 14:3 (being simply the best in quite all of my categories) 23:2 (the fanciest of all and also very cute and well designed) 27:2 (very funny, very original and very well presented) 2:2 (in no category outstanding but overall very well done - scores an extra point for being built from just one set 9396 and therefore being one of the best alternate models i have ever seen) 4:1 (heavy machines but now something new - especially the train and its functions are awesome) This was a very hard decision because there so many fantastic models - i admire all of you builders!

Technic Wanted List ... (Yours)
Kumbbl replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
just for the 8275 dozer: only its PF parts are worth the prize... and who doesn't need some more receivers, controllers, motors, especially the quite expensive XL-motors ;-) a dozer 8275 for about 90 to 110€ is therefore very recommendable just for its PF and the cylinder brackets - regardless if someone likes or dislikes the built model -
Technic Wanted List ... (Yours)

buy an 8275 dozer buy a 8466 offroader buy a 8461... quite good and helpful recommendations... ;-) 8466 is with some MODs a very good model and the 8275 is a very good parts repository - not only for the brackets.... -
Your Best Technic Bargains
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
yesterday i got an Enzo 8653 (Ferrari) for 54€, complete with undamaged Box, perfect BI and MINT parts quality... It is not the best technic car but it is a real beauty (with a nice door kinematic) and it is a very good part repository for a lot of supercar MOCs.... -

Adjustable Spirograph
Kumbbl replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
ehm, could you please give a link to your Bricksafe page - this would nice ;-) Thank you very much! -
completely d'accord... my intention was not to offend Juhlengo but it was just a question... in case somehow just searches for a well playable and fully motorized excavator the 8043 is the better one, period. and only for this case i have asked this question "why not a 8043?"... Then: there is no need to be defensive... the solution of the modded 42006 and especially the function switching is very nifty and cool (as i said already in my previous posting) and can be indeed a reference implementation when needed in other MOCs.... so: all is fine
-
nice job and indeed nifty function switching, congrats. But, may i ask you a question (maybe a little bit provocative to be honest ;-): Why do you not buy a 8043 for that money? A new 42006 costs at least ~50€ - the needed PF-stuff for your MOD costs about 87€ (4x M, 1 Battarybox, 2 reveivers, 2 senders), so complete ~ 140€ For that prize you can get a used 8043 complete with box and BI in very good condition - and IMHO the 8043 is a way better model even compared to your moded 42006, because he can rotate endless and you can operated related functions simultaneously (all arm movements e.g.)... But just my 2 ct!

But do not forget the steering stabilizer i mentioned in the first posting: it is essential! -
[MOD] 8466 Offroader
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
in the meanwhile i'm convinced too - but i built it from my spare parts repository and competely in black (with a few gray parts) and not with these somehow odd blue-gray-black-purple-yellow colorscheme of the 5218 pack (e.g. purple parts, uhhh)... looks cool and works good - you were right, i adds really value to the 8466...i can recommend it too... here a picture: -
in Germany you can get 8043 (incl. BI and box) in very good condition always for about 140 - 150€ - if you are patient and lucky then maybe also one for about 110 - 120€... cheaper would be a real bargain... but i promise you: you will like the 8043 much more then the 42006 with additional motorization... Well, the Ultimate drives the main boom with a XL-Motor which performs better than the M-motor of the original set, no question.. but IMHO the playability of the original set is - as described before - really good (if you apply the mentioned very small mods) - but i repeat myself.... decide for yourself, i think you got enough answers for your questions.... ;-)
