Well, to prefer the 8043 is something i can at least understand - Even if i do Not agree... But to prefer the completely boring 8285 is something i can Not understand... Not understandable in the slightest to be honest...

i can not judge the USA market and its prizes for lego technic... Here in Germany a complete but used 8258 (with box and BI) is worth ~ 130 to 150€ - prizes about 100€ and below are bargains... MISB and unopened sets cost about 250 to 300€ So, because i live in germany i(!) would never spend 300$ or even more for this set... because there are so many used but near MINT sets out there... But nevertheless this set is indeed a classic and one of my all time favorites - especially with the MODs of Designer Han

[REVIEW] 8275 Bulldozer
Kumbbl replied to Ickelpete's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Guys, i'm wondering why do you rate the 8275 so overwhelming? I also own two of them but just for parts - well, no question, it looks great but at the end of the day the build is very simple and boring and the functions are boring too... well, a dozer is a boring machine concerning functions ;-) There is no valid comparison with the 8043 excavator which is a way way better and more interesting set... IMHO the dozer is a legend because it introduced PF and remote controlling via PF... but if one ignores that fact then there simply remains a quite simple designed and boring set... at least for an AFOL - kids would probably judge differently ;-) But it is a good parts and PF assortment...no question... But probably we have to say: different people different tastes... -
thank you very much - this explains and demonstrates the clever mechanism quite well...

Your Best Technic Bargains
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
a real bargain: a MINT 8455 backhoe (with perfect box and BI) for just 40€... But because it's my third one i think i will re-sell it - of course for a "little bit" more... ;-) -
The B-model of 8043 is very good! For me there is no question which set i would buy (concerning the question 8043 or 8275): 8043 is way way better and more interesting than 8275...in all aspects... 8275 is a good parts pack, especially PF, but the build is really boring and the playability... hmm, quite boring too... One word to the recommended ultimate 8043: Yes, it is an outstanding and very recommendable MOD which works very well, but it is also an expensive one and it is (at least IMHO) not really necessary... here i have described some small abd cheap MODS which i have applied to the 8043: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=88601 - overall very cheap but nevertheless enhances the excavator already a lot... To make a long story short: even if i prefer pneumatic over LAs i must say, 8043 is one of the best sets ever - an icon - go and get it - a must have!
-
i want to buy third party pneumatic hose - now i'm wondering about the correct specification so it will fit perfect to the pneumatic parts... AFAIK it is: - 4 mm outer diameter - 2 mm inner diameter - 1 mm "wall" thinckness a flexible silicon hose... Is this correct? If yes, does anybody know a good seller with fair price and good quality? Best would be in germany but EU would be ok too... Thanks a lot in advance!

Best B-Models of Technic Sets?
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
8431 mobile crane has one of the best models - the original is already good but you can enhance it very easy e.g. by making the tipper dumpable via pneumatic (this MOD just needs a fistful of standard bricks, beams and one pneumatic valve, one t-piece and one piston and about 45 cm pneumatic hose - here we go: a really great B-Model with a perfect folding crane... very sturdy, very intersting build, very playable - lot of functions... Together with the wonderful mail model (the mobile crane) and of the best medium sets ever... very recommended -
why are you restricted to a new one?? there are so many used sets in near mint condition out there with perfect box and BI without any damages... apart from the experience opeming the inner bags for yourself such a second hand set is perfect and saves you a lot of money without any drawback... just my 2cts Furthermore: bricklink is great for buying parts but i would never buy complete sets at bricklink - ebay or local marketplaces are way cheaper
-
it depends... e.g. here in germany you find plenty of... ;-) i would recommend - in this ordering: 8455 - best backhoe - much much much.... much better than 8069 - or more general: one of the best technic models ever - IMHO a must have.... 8459 - best front loader - pneumatic! 8431 - very good mobile crane - cute and full with features (the only one which has slewing by gears!) - but it is fully studded...do not know if you like this 8265 - very good front loader but only with added motor (easy) - looks still perfect with a motor - otherwise (without motor) i would rate it as the 8069 for the same reason - unplayable... will probably become much cheaper after releasing the new forthcoming 42030.. 8421 is also very good but here you can also buy current 42009... both of them have pros and cons... the mobile crane 8053 is a good model but it has two serious problems: a) without motor it is quite unplayable - at least if you want avoid getting typewriters cramp ;-) - same as for 8069 and 8265 b) with motor it looks completely ugly But it is a great part assortment and it has a very good B-model You can reduce the problem a) a little bit by replacing the turning knob by a real crank... BTW: The hauler 8264 is boring - IMHO one of the worst models TLG has ever releases... and do not misunderstand: 8069 is really fun to build, it has some very clever designs, no question - but its playability is really really lousy, believe me - so it depends what do you expect from this model.....
-
well, but if anyone searches for construction vehicles then i always strongly recommend to take into account also the out of production sets - there are so many and most of them are IMHO better then the current available 42006 and 8069....

Nathanaël Kuipers's Concept Car
Kumbbl replied to Anio's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
sorry for bumping this quite old thread but i have now made detailed easy to follow photo instructions of the convertible variant - see here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=92802 -
There is an awesome convertible variant of Natanael Kuipers Concept Car (more informations about this wonderful supercar MOC can be found here: http://www.eurobrick...oncept Car&st=0): (gif animation stolen from TB - http://www.technicbr...ept-car-by.html - a very good description of some variants of the Concept car) It is a very well designed roof with a reliable and robust gear-driven closing/opening mechanism. It adds great value to the concept car. And the whole roof fits pefectly to the outstanding modular design because the whole roof is one modul which can be mounted with just a few simple steps and with effortless ease... Well, currently you can buy perfect lego-like BI for the concept car but unfortunately only for the basic car and not for the gullwing and convertible variants. I asked Natanael if he has some better detailed pictures of the roof mechanism as available in his brickshelf folder. He has generously send some to me which allowed some better views... thanks a lot, Natanael! On this basis i have now managed to reverse engineer the roof-components and have made detailed step-by-step photo building instructions. I have uploaded them to brickshelf: - step by step instructions for all needed components: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=540360 - all needed steps to mount the roof-components to the car: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=540361 (Each file name contains the step number) Here is an example of the level of details of this BI: I'm quite sure everyone can easily follow these instruction steps ;-) An excel part list can be found here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=540359

wonderful - many thanks for your efforts concerning the BI - one of the best alternate models i know! One question: do have marked in the BI where and how to add the IR/PF components?
