  1. yes - please read also the linked topic in my previous post (#5) - In short: The ultimate is an outstanding mod and very well done - but IMHO not really necessary if the original is carefully built and slightly improved (but this is only my personal opinion - i'm sure there are other optinions ;-)
  2. Hi all, here TechnicBricks nicely describes that the awesome Concept car can be converted into a convertible and a gullwing...http://www.technicbricks.com/2012/09/tbs-techreview-18-concept-car-by.html I want to do this but there are not really many pictures... Has anybody done this already and does anybody know if there exists more pictures and/or an mpd-File or something else? Thanks a lot
  3. Hi all, first question: are there any important chassis differences between the 9398 and 41999? second question: if anser to first is yes, can the improvements of the 41999 chassis easily be applied to the 9398 chassis? Thanks a lot
  4. yesterday bought a near MINT 9398 Crawler complete with instructions and box and shipping for 89€... just all electrical parts are more expensive at lego.com or bricklink...
  5. Go for the 8043 - you will not regret it... please take a look at this posting from me - if you apply these few and very cheap MODs this excavator will beat the 42006 by far... http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88601&hl=
  6. i now managed to generate the instructions with LPub - thank for the hint. BUT: What is the reason for some complete blank pages and some pages where is displayed only a part-list for the step X but nothing else (i.e. nothing how to build step X)?
  7. thank you - can anybody recommend a good tutorial?
  8. maybe a very dump question but i'm not really firm with the Lego-CAD software.... when i open V12 in LDView then i can see the complete Spirograph... what must i do to get this setp-by-step-instructions like this sample-Pic?? Can they be generated or is there to do something "more"? as i said, probably very foolish my question....
  9. awesome! one of the best trial performances of a Lego truck i have ever seen! and in addition the model looks very good.
  10. This Posting is dedicated to - the TLG which offers this great set - Juergen who has build the ultimate 8043 and also has posted some small improvements to the original design - all of you who are somehow disappointed by the original design (out of sync LAs, hard moveable boom etc.) IMHO the original design is awesome and needs only very few (and cheap!) and punctal improvements to work like a charm. Remark: some of the mentioned improvements come from this vey helpful posting from Juergen (http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=45133), but i have not installed all of them. well, here is the list of improvements i have installed: 1. Switching driving-rings (from Juergens post, s.a.) Juergen: The first time I built the 8043, it had some trouble switching the driving rings. Most of the time, the motor had to run twice to completely flip the switch. So I geared down the motor by replacing the 2 16-tooth gears with a 12-20-bevel-gear setup. I also replaced the blue axle-pin with friction (step 35, book 1) with a tan axle-pin without friction. 2. Rubber belts to help the boom (from Juergens post too) Juergen: To get some weight from the boom, I added rubber-bands. They reduce the friction the LA's which is caused by the weight of the boom. I didn't think of this myself but read it in this eurobricks-thread. (I have choosen 6 black rubberbands ("Black Rubber Belt Medium (Round Cross Section)", part-no x37 at Bricklink), which work very well and look IMO better than the blue ones). But this doesn't destroy the very good aestetic of the model and make the operation of the main boom very good - also with the standard batteries! This MOD can be also applied very easy after finishing the build - so you can compare the effect. 3. Improving the rotation point ot the original bucket (Stolen from barman) (in both pictures: left the original, right the improved version of barman) It improves bucket operation a lot and is very cheap and simply to build from the pictures in its brickshelf folder: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=432777 - very recommended. 4. Making the left track running smoothly This is done by replacing the 4L with stop axle in step 36 (book 1) with an axle 6L - this prevents that driving axle from canting under load 5. That's it. With all this small and cheap improvements i must state: i overall prefer the "original" 8043 over the ultimate of Juergen, though the latter one is an outstanding mod and very well done - chapeau Juergen! But why i prefer the original: simply because of the cleverness of the mode-switching between arm-operations and propulsion/slewing - which allows 6 functions with just 4 motors. Well, of course the Ultimate of Juergen is a "cost no object" excavator and is a little bit more realistic to operate because all can be done simulaneously, BUT: this is not really necessary - the playability of the original design (with the improvements listed above) is also very high and has only very small restrictions - quite ignorable IMHO. But this mode-switching design is really clever and makes more fun to build and view and operate as the 6-motor-version - at least in my personal opinion ;-) Or let me cite Juergen: "One of the reasons for me to make this topic (Kumbbl: see link above) and video is to show that this model, when constructed correctly & precisely, operates quite well" SO: IMHO its is not really necessary to spend a lot of money for additional motors, receivers, controllers to make this model work well, some bucks for some cheap parts are sufficient. But of course there is one basic and important requirement: it is essential to build this model perfectly, means controlling after each step if all(!) gears and axles are running perfect and smooth - and "perfect" means perfect!! and the main boom LAs must be installed in perfect sync (but then IMHO it is not necessary to switch some gears or something else...just build as in the instructions) Finally: chapeau to the designer of this set - on of the best in the studdless aera! BTW: this praising is from a man who normally prefers pneumatic over LAs ;-) Just my 2 cts.
  11.  by far... and - as described in my previous posting (#69) - with very smooth and controlable movings - even the slewing works very smooth - the crane can be slewed exactly to a certain position...
  12. the precision of lego pneumatic depends IMHO (of course a.o.) on the smoothness and the right power of the air-supply. The best examples are the airtank-with-manual-pump supported Front-Loader 8459 and the compressor driven legend 8868 8459: here the air from the pump is stored first in the airtank and if you then open one of the valves the full air pressure overpowers the cylinders which results in this not controllable movements which oscillates between either fully retracted or expanded --> this is a bad example 8868: it seems that here the air-supply has exactly the right power and constant flow - at least in my model i can controll all movements (apart from the claw), means slewing, boom-movement very smooth and quite precisely... --> this is a very good example that lego pneumatic is not per se unprecise... Conclusion: the smoothness and the control-ability of Lego pneumatic depends not least on the air-supply... Ovwerall: i would not see this topic so dogmatic: both - LAs and pneumatic - have its pros and cons... personally i prefer pneumatic (mostly because its "reality" and the reason mentioned by allanp: "...two pneumatics in parallel will stay in sync with each other whereas LAs can go out if one of the clutches slip making them work against each other and sapping power..." this is a real and big goodie IMHO) but i also appreciate the complexity of drivetrains like in the 8043 excavator - which BTW works very smoothly and well for me - even just powered by M-motors - here LAs probably are overall the better solution... but one thing must be mentioned: LAs without PF is a real nogo - driving LAs by hand is a playabilty nightmare (e.g. the 8265 Frontloader is the best example - a quite good model when motorized - a bad model when not) so IMHO: both have the right to exist - both offer great and versatile possibilities to build great models Just my 2cts
  13. for me this is one of the best B-models, even better then the main model: - lot of functions - completely different - nice look - not too many remaining parts - complex design - intersting build highly recommended! For 9397-newbies i would even recommend first building the B-Model ;-)
  14. still the best looking official supercar (in these colors even better) but also still the most boring official supercar (boring and useless functions), no transmission... far away from the previous label "technic as in reality"... a supercar needs a working transmission otherwise it is not a supercar, period.
  15. well, so we have now three stunning mobile cranes - all more or less the same model and look: - this one: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=87937&st=0 - that one: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86470&hl=liebherr - the one above... hard to prefer one...
  16. just shot a 8275 Bulldozer for 90€ (without box, instructions and treads)... but i wanted it just for the parts (own already a complete bulldozer) and so i have calculated: - all electrical stuff (2 XL, 2 M, 2 receivers, 1 controller, 1 battery box): ~ 96€ at bricklink (only german sellers) - 4 pneumatic brackets: ~ 60€ at bricklink - a lot of other parts: gears, beams, liftarms, pins, axles etc.: probably 50€ so IMHO this is a pretty good deal for some expensive parts needed for many MOCs....
  17. yes, agreed too. Therefore i bought 8479 two times, so i can display these three brilliant models at the same time... one set for the main truck, the other for the buggy and the robot (with some spare parts from bricklink and one additional motor) Overall the 8479 is in my top 5 sets all the time and AFAICS this will never change... ;)
  18. and here is the forth alternate model of 8479: a very funny walking robot - just built it: the pure walking mechanism is funny to watch but even more funnier is: the faster you spin the wheel at the controller the faster the robot walks (and it can walk really fast) - if you press simultaneously the sensor button at the controller it walks backwards... a small but very clever alternate model - so overall the 8479 is a real universal set, IMHO... very very recommened for all technic lovers.
  19. Has anybody seen this amazing marvel: a milling machine: Makes me speechless...
  20. again wow... cool 4-section boom - the first 4-section one i saw which looks good and is not too thick... here is the brickshelf-gallery: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=535367
  21. For me the Term best doesn't mean biggest... It is no problem to design biggest outtriggers... Sorry, to be honest but these outtriggers do not really impress me... The ones of sephirot8082 are so well blended and realistic, they just look like real ones not like Lego ones, the yellow ones in your picture look like Lego ones If you know what i mean
  22. wow - thank you for this hint - a new must build for me... just checked rebrickable - well, 99,3% sounds good ;-)
