  1. Seeing how Lego S@H just sold out of their Martian Manhunter minifig 11 days into the promo, maybe DC will extract their heads from their collective rump and realize their characters sell without being attached to Batman. So here's to a JLA Watchtower set, a Flash Cosmic Treadmill with Rogues Gallery included, a Green Lantern CORPS, and Blue Devil/Firestorm and Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)/Booster Gold team-up sets!
  2. Well, well, well...it looks like a DC character has some appeal after all without being attached to Batman. Stick that in yer pipe and smoke it, DC!
  3. Congrats on your find! While I started my modular collection too late, I'm considering Bricklinking Wetwire's Ghostbusters HQ. I'll either use it for said set, or an old firehouse. Decisions, decisions.... Man, I love Lego.
  4. Personally, I think the Spider-shelfwarmers directly result from Lego customers being tired of the same Spider-fig. As someone posted earlier, there's little incentive to get the trike set.I bought it for Electro since he closely resembles Iceman. And speaking of The X-Men, did anyone see the recent episode of Avengers Assemble that featured Mojo, a big (both in size and nastiness) X-Villain from, where else? Mojoworld. Spoiler alert: It features a Hulk/Hawkeye mighty Marvel Team-Up, where they are trapped in an intergalactic gladiatorial tournament. The icing on the proverbial cake is the cameo appearances of a Brood Queen as one of the opponents. The Brood are one of the all-time greatest enemies of the X-Men. So, hopefully, since we can't get any new villains in an X-Men set, maybe Mojo will show up in an an Avengers set, like Taskmaster. A Brood queen would be, in a word, amazeballs. But I won't push it.
  5. My Walmart as well! Be sure to check both the Lego aisle and also the Clearance Toys aisle, though. There were some sets in one aisle and not the other.
  6. Sad, but true for this DC fan. It broke my heart when Booster Gold tried to save Ted repeatedly before all that Infinite Crisis/52 bull$#!+ started.
  7. Honey, where's my paaaaaaàaaaaants?
  8. I know, right? I wonder who started the idea that a theme won't sell unless it has a TV show, a movie, and a breakfast cereal to back it up. Lego supposedly gears sets to kids, not AFOL's. However, they release 4 Lego sets based on Guardians of the Galaxy, a movie rated PG-13. (Based on what I've seen of the trailer, 13 is pushing it. Zoe's side boob shot, Chris Pratt's middle finger, vulgar language, etc.) Believe me, I'm no prude. Just sayin'. Are these sets targeted towards that elusive 13-18 year old niche market?
  9. Very cool build! PMS torpedoes? Priceless.
  10. I'd wager you could find an excellent custom GA somewhere online for $25 or so. Even though it's not "official" Lego, almost all customizers use genuine Lego pieces on which to print. Besides, it looks like Lego is skimping on the printing on their Super heroes.minifigs compared to other licensed minifigs. Take a look at Star Wars, LOTR, TMNT, etc. Superheroes minifigs look incomplete in comparison. Because of price, I obviously wouldn't go after lots of customs, but for that special character, it may be worth it.
  11. I enjoy Marvel and DC minifigs, with an obvious preference for The X-Men. No matter what the minifgure though, I really wish Lego would include leg printing on them. They look incomplete from the waist down. Most other licenses have an almost obnoxious amount of it, so I wonder why so little on Superheroes.
  12. I love this pic. Sure made me weepy. To say that Harold Ramis will be missed is an understatement. Not only has he made generations of movie-goers and fans of Second City laugh themselves silly, he has also been an inspiration to many writers, directors, and actors. I seriously doubt that today's comedies would be what they are without his influence and inspiration. The fact that Mr. Ramis is no longer suffering can provide solace to not only his friends and loved ones, but also to the rest of us left behind.
  13. Wouldn't a GB-LURP just be a BURP?
  14. Hilarious! Great build!
  15. Having The Lego Movie minifigs make cameos in other sets sounds great! Maybe not Emmet and Wyldstyle as much, though. I have enough spare Emmets clogging my vacuum cleaner already. They're everywhere. I swear my kids strategically place these things on the floor for me to step on when I get out of bed in the morning. Ouch! Also, it would be good to see Lego going back to printing photos of alternate builds on the back of the box. I think it emphasizes the versatility or the sets, and reinforces the idea that the only limit to what to build is one's imagination (and the number of bricks in the set). Lastly, using Metalbeard and Benny as springboards for steampunk and Classic Space themes is a capital idea! Perhaps demand for The Sea Cow, and people going rabid with anticipation of Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! release in August will inspire Lego to consider these themes as viable.
  16. Mini-Beard is a cool brick built figure! It captures the essence of the actual Metalbeard in great detail despite using much less bricks, and it's fun to build!
  17. As a frustrated X-Fan, I'm buying The Spidey-trike(gag!) this weekend only for the Electro Minifig. My reasoning is: 1) Electro looks more like Iceman. My 4 year old son even asked why Spidey is fighting Iceman. I realize this Electro is based on the USM and upcoming Spider-Man movie version of him, but seriously... 2) At the rate Lego releases new X-Men minifigs, I'll be using my Social Security checks to feed my Lego fix. Brand new movie coming out; 50th (50th!) Anniversary of the Marvel comics, The Uncanny X-Men; and only one X-Men set is out this year. Sadly, it consists of a lame Sentinel and Blackbird jet that isn't even black. 2 out of the 5 minifigs that are actually X-Men from both X-Men sets combined are rehashes. (Flamin' Deadpool ain't an X-Man, bub) Phew! Feel much better with that off my chest. Here's to The Lego Cuusoo X-Mansion reaching 10k votes and passing the review board! I hope it survives the experience.
  18. Thanks for the review! I wasn't really interested in ANY of the micromanagers til I built the two included with The Sea Cow. Now, I've grown quite fond of them. While I missed the build, I'll just rummage through sets and collect what I need for this little bugger.Again, thanks!
  19. Perhaps this is Lego foretelling all the ocular trauma that will occur because of their new stud-firing minifig blasters. "You'll shoot yer eye out!", indeed.
  20. I agree. I wish the X-Men movie would have done suits more in line with the comics instead of the matching pleather unitard/jacket combo. Even in The Avengers movie, Cap was the only one wearing more of a costume, explained away by Coulson as something "old-fashioned". Unfortunately, comics are pricing themselves right out of existence. What kid has $4 for a comic nowadays. Why, back in my day, I would hump 5 miles up a snow covered hill to school and back every day; and comics cost a quarter!
  21. Classic space is such a fun theme! Of course, having all the sets when a kid is 7 years old can inspire a certain bias towards favouring those sets. Actually, since seeing your MOC, I was desperate to find my stash of old bricks. I was fortunate enough to find a decent portion of my collection! I think I will forever see that shade of blue and immediately think of the Classic Space sets. So, thanks for sharing pics of your work!
  22. You're right, 'fists. Perhaps I was too harsh in my opinion regarding The 'Cave. I feel that my utter disappointment in the revamped set clouded my judgement. Thus, I assigned such a low value on an otherwise "GOOD set". Unfortunately, I am also without the previous Batcave set. Bricklinking it is an option, but I don't know whether there are any bricks unique to the set that would impede the build.
  23. Hmmmmm...good question. I'd have to say it's a toss-up among the latest Batcave, the Batman/Joker Batplane/steamroller monstrosity, and Iron Man 3/Mandarin riding lawnmower from hell sets. The Batcave is a repeat set, and as such, should have been an improved set, not a scaled DOWN set. Batplane that uses wings as pincers, and steamroller with lips. 'Nuff said. And really, any Iron Man 3 movie set with the exception of maybe the Malibu mansion. IM3 vehicles include a cigarette boat that was barely in the movie, and The Mandarin's John Deere with a blowtorch attachment. Turns out The Mandarin wasn't even a villain at all, and that makes the set that much lamer .
  24. I'm speechless. Good thing I'm typing. The sets? Awesome. The accompanying minifigs? Awesome. This is a well-organized theme. The look you've created with both the building techniques and the bricks used is very cohesive. After building The Sea Cow, I have even more appreciation for the Steam punk theme. Thanks for the inspiration!
  25. Tough-looking build! I really, really, really like those hands. Excellent build.
