  1. I bought the Hulk lab set a couple days ago, and I was surprised at how great a set it is! My 4 yo son has been playing with it nonstop! What I also like are the unusual building techniques for the "blow apart features". My son is new to building with Lego, so the concept of just laying pieces across one another instead of interlocking with studs is something he hasn't seen. But it was cool to see his eyes light up when he saw how the play feature worked. Compared to the other Avengers Hulk smash-related set that was also $50, well, there is no comparison, IMO. This new set has a few new minifigs and much more playability. The whole thing has been well worth the $$ spent. BTW, he also figured out that the Hydra tank is just the right size to also bust through the break away wall in the lab. Pretty dynamic!
  2. Hilarious! Nice to see J'onn letting his hair down. Literally! Your daughter has a great sense of humour!
  3. Thank you for posting this! I have had the same idea for my daughter's birthday present, and it's good to see how it worked out.I plan on showing her how to mod it with a few hinges.
  4. Customs all the way! Custom minifig quality and detail has improved by leaps and bounds over the last couple years. It used to be that customs consisted of minifigs with either paper stickers/labels or waterslide decals. Now, there are customizers using PAD printing techniques to make minifigs with better paint jobs than genuine Lego minifigs IMO.
  5. I noticed this as well. It's probably either a QC issue or a $ issue. My $$ is on $$ being the issue. Superhero minifigs get the shaft compared to all the other licenses. No new headgear (Storm's tiara with new hair would have been nice. CLASSIC Thor would have been stellar with his CLASSIC helmet). Meanwhile, LOTR, Star Wars, you name it. All other licenses' minifigs are dressed/printed to the nines and get whatever accessory is expected for the character. I bought the Hulk Lab Smash set for my son, but anymore, I'm tired of waiting months for half-assed minifigs of my favourite Marvel and DC characters. Make mine (custom) Marvel! Batman? MCU vs. DCCU is like comparing apples to oranges. If GOTG slumps, then I think Marvel would recover by dialing back the B- and C-list characters. Whereas Warner Bros. would bring everything in the DCCU to a grinding halt unfortunately.
  6. By the look of it, Mk. 0.5!
  7. I thought the white hands on Electro were too much of a contrast, so I swapped them out for light blue hands off the CMF Abominable Snowman. I think they look better with the translucent blue arms.
  8. I believe a lot of The Avengers, X-Men, and Wolverine and the X-Men cartoons are on Netflix. I used a free trial, then figured I would keep it for a couple months since it was winter and spend the time binge-watching shows like "Arrow" and "Archer" (TOTALLY UNRELATED SHOWS). As far as Superhero minifigures go, I started with the DC Lego sets, then went nuts on the Marvel sets. It's frustrating seeing the potential love that TLG could show the Superhero theme minifigs being wasted because of DC and Marvel tying the hands of TLG.
  9. Civil War was a preposterous event. It took the whole "we're good guys who just met, but we don't understand each other, so let's beat the hell out of each other til one of us comes to our senses" plot, then went full retard. The idea that team mates that have faced death together would turn on one another like that is insulting to the readers. Never go full retard. Is it just me, or is it crazy difficult trying to find the latest Lego Hulk set? I have not seen it anywhere. And I've looked. My Lego store sells out the minute they are in stock. I don't wanna go the S@H route because it seems like shooting fish in a barrel as far as the whole " thrill of the hunt" aspect goes. Plus, it's Double VIP Points time in a couple weeks, so maybe things will work out.
  10. I don't know how much credence I can give to the belief that MM sold out simply because a lot of new Lego sets were released simultaneously. Sure, some people can't wait for new sets, but isn't the Double VIP Points promo next month? I would think that whoever wanted a MM spent the money on sets to get it. Otherwise, why not wait 31 days and receive double points? The only thing better than free money and free beer is free Lego.
  11. Thanks for the tip! I will check that out.
  12. Seeing how fast The Delorean Time Machine sold, I might try to grab this set first day. I like that pic of the interior.
  13. Are you looking for just facades for building in your city or more modular buildings? I started out the modular route, but it's getting really expensive. At this point, I have the cinema, the pet shop/Victorian townhouse, the emporium, and the Parisian restaurant. I have yet to finish supplementing my own bricks with some from Bricklink to finish a custom police station. I need something much taller than the modulars I already own to break up the monotony, but the only way I see myself doing that is just by MOC'ing a.building's facade to save time and money.Good luck with your decision,.though!
  14. I love seeing everyone's different takes on The Flash's blur effect! Good one, Green!
  15. Wow. That definitely inspires me to get off my butt and Bricklink this already. Good job
  16. Sorry, forgot about the Man of Steel sets. I enjoyed the Black Zero build, and my son got a kick out of the little Metropolis battle set. In regards to the movie, I enjoyed seeing how Krypton was presented. I just can't figure out what irked me about Clark's development, whether it's how it felt rushed to me so they could present more of Krypton, or how it was presented in reverse chronological order. I could accept that Clark's history is the same story as we've seen in numerous tellings. However, the Jonathan Kent's attitude in MOS seems to contradict how he has been portrayed in all these previous origins, discouraging Clark from ever revealing his abilities to protect him from the world. I would have liked to see how this significant difference in attitude may have affected Clark growing up. Thanks for the discussion! Back to Lego! I hope that DC uses the hiatus from Bats and Supes to give us some JLA/JSA, TeenTitans/Young Justice based sets. The Daily Bugle set is pretty good! I would have picked it over the Doc Ock lab set too. If $$$ is tight, maybe check eBay for just the Iron Fist minifig. A quick look showed a couple for $10-$12.
  17. I don't understand why DC sets won't exist without Batman. How many DC sets have been made without Batman already to prove it otherwise? The Superman/Wonder Woman set is the only one I can recall. There may have been others. My point is this: how do we know that DC sets won't move without him? Batman is a fantastic character, and easily one of my favourites. Doesn't mean I want 50 variants and the same 5 vehicles rehashed ad nauseum. I think it all stems from DC's business philosophy. They don't take many risks, and when they do, less than 100% effort is put into it. Nolan's Bat-movies were incredible. Great stories and topnotch acting. They worked well for the Batman character. That same formula didn't work so well for Superman because he is such a different character. Not to mention that the story wasn't as strong. When I finished seeing Batman Begins, I knew who Bruce Wayne was and his motivation. Seeing Man of Steel, I had no idea who Superman was and even less about Clark Kent. And what I did see of the Superman character went against everything I know Superman to be. Then there's GL. The movie was OK, but way too rushed. I mean, Sinestro's corruption and his taking the yellow power ring is summed up in a stinger after the credits? Lame. DC flounders because they feel the audience can't suspend belief and accept the comic book character for what it is. DC won't develop a Wonder Woman flick because they don't know to approach the character? Tell that to Marvel. Thor has already had a sequel, Cap has a sequel next month, and Tony Stark is a household name. Their summer blockbuster features a talking, rifle toting raccoon. I wish that DC would wake up. Their fans and their characters deserve better.
  18. I have always wanted a Tanis map room set that has Tanis represented as an area of micromodulars. Some would be tan bricks, some would be trans clear. Install a light brick under the set to reenact Indy's use of the staff of Ra to locate The Well of Souls.
  19. This is true! What people forget is that kids like videogames. TLG put out a little number that featured Batman, and it did so well, they made a sequel game and named it...Batman...2. Not to miss this profitable bandwagon, Marvel threw their hat into the Lego videogame market with Lego Marvel Superheroes. Now, my 2 kids, even with very limited game time allowed, know the likes of Killer Croc, Hydra and AIM agents, and Kurse. One of my daughters favourite Marvel characters is Psylocke, and she has never picked up an X-Force or X-Men book. I mentioned ONCE that Brian Braddock, aka Capt. Britain, is her brother. Now she and her brother play together as these two characters just because of that. People need to give kids more credit.
  20. Scott Lobdell is an assclown. Not satisfied with screwing up just one comics universe, he moves from Marvel to DC and continues his crap storm there. Also, Numbuh1Nerd has a good point. Imaginext has no problem making Hawkman, Red Tornado, GL's, and other neither-Super-nor-Bat-related figures. Why not Lego? It's these b-listers I can never find for my son. All the Batman pegwarmers, and that's it. Red Tornado is his new favorite. Hasn't ever seen him on TV or in a book, but for some reason wigged out when he saw the fig when I bought him the set for the Cyborg fig that he knows from Teen Titans Go!
  21. Oh... my... That's a real shame it wasn't released as a Minifig to the general public. Oh, I see there's one on eBay with a high bid of $105. There's also one for sale for the paltry sum of $895. Chump change, really.
  22. Wait...what Toy Fair promo? Bucky was an exclusive somewhere?
  23. Yes. The topic is LLLLL EEEEE GGGGG OOOOO super heroes. Not CW. I love Arrow and eagerly await The Flash, I don't wanna read about it here.
  24. Oh well, this is probably true.
  25. Wow. I love your set up! Lego and lights make a great combo. You'd figure that Lego would do more to incorporate more into their sets instead of the occasional light brick.
