  1. I don't think think I will ever go for a third party to get the helmets and weapons for my LEGOs. My hope is that the CMF line will come out with a Viking Chieftan helmet that is useful for a Ewoyn helm. But I acknowledge that the odds are slimmer than Bridge Forge giving a Gondor and Witch King helm.
  2. There might be a new sea creature mold but it does not appear to be the focus of any set. It is not reflected in any of the set names.
  3. There are seven studless pearl gold 1x1 round plates used as good coins in the Forest Ambush Castle set. That is on clearance in this part of the world. Use those and the three gems in that set for your dragon horde. I hate the minifig prints in Castle 2013 but that is a cheap way to get weapons, helmets and other MOCing material.
  4. No guarantee, of course, but in the regular modular thread there was a lot of talk about Grand Emporium getting an extended life due to strong sells recently. Those sells, though, were people buying them as investments believing that it was going to retire soon. There is no set schedule for any of these building to retire anyway. The way it works is that LEGO puts in a new order for sets and those sets are available until they are sold through. Direct to Consumer (D2C) sets do not get clearanced. When LEGO was not planning on ordering more, they pull the stock from the local stores to sell via the web. Personally, I would wait. Though I already have Grand Emporium and will be getting the Pet Shop. Of course, the new production run of Grand Emporium might mean that Pet Shop is the next to go. There are risks no matter what direction you go.
  5. BirdOPrey, remember next month is double VIP points both online and in the LEGO Store. If you buy your modular then for $150, you will earn $15 off your next one. There is also a free Winter Village set for purchases of $99 or more that would give you extra brick and a window to start your own MOC. Cool avatar by the way. Qapla'
  6. I agree with Peter. Once you start you will get hooked. For that reason, buy the Grand Emporium while it is still available at retail. If you try to get it later, it will be much more expensive. I only have the Fire Brigade and the Grand Emporium but I plan on adding the Pet Shop next month during Double VIP Points. The Parisian Restaurant looks great but it will still be available in a couple years. The Pet Shop is likely the next one to retire after the Grand Emporium. It is two separate 16x32 builds that can break up the flow of buildings on your block.
  7. If these come to the US, then I will buy gas at Shell for a little bit. It is not worth a trip to Asia or even to eBay to me otherwise.
  8. That is good enough for me. I shall start dreaming of what the new CMF will be... even before I can buy this great series.
  9. You might have better luck in the Town forum than in Special. That said, I have been working on my own bike shope / fortune teller apartment for some time now. When I first asked for advice, someone shared this link with me. http://amodularlife.wordpress.com/2010/06/12/modular-standards-for-lego-city-buildings/ It will get your building to connect with the official modulars.
  10. Agreed. But don't mistake LEGO not giving you exactly what you want as them ignoring the adult market. Check Shop@Home and filter by age range. The highest one they have is 12+ but that covers a LOT of sets especially the very expense ones. But you don't have to take our word for it. This is what Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, CEO of the Lego Group, had to say recently:
  11. I would be interested in a Licensed minifigure line if I was interested in the license. I am just at a loss what new license would appeal to me. If there was a Middle Earth CMF or a Superhereos CMF series I would be happy. The only one that does come to mind, Game of Thrones, would not be considered a proper fit as it is too mature for LEGO.
  12. I think LEGO is trying to service different lines in each series. They like to give City and Castle minifigs as well as created an entire Historical / Mythology line that did not exist. CMF also serves to create new molds and prints that a line cannot otherwise afford. Look at how poorly LEGO represented Santa before Series 8. Since then, the CMF has been the standard version for the advent calendar. The holiday elf hair piece is now used for Santa's elves in two Winter Village sets this year. The series 9 police officer's cap became the new standard in this year's City line and Advent calendar. It appears that the Forest Maiden's reason for being was to provide hair for Leia in the Ewok Village set. I agree that the biggest driver behind CMF selection is to build upon the characters already made. After all counterparts to an existing figure make both the older one and the newer one better in my opinion. But LEGO appears to consider many factors when making these decisions. I am already awaiting word on a Series 13. Has that been confirmed yet?
  13. I can understand why you would not want the two separate parts of Erebor attached but I still think that it makes a great set. We all have different desires within our LEGO hobby. I aspire to be a MOCer so I bought the Hobbit sets for the minifigs. The only Hobbit set I left intact has been Bagend. It is just so good that I don't want to scrap it for parts. I will buy 79018, build it, enjoy it, then tear it down, and file the brick away. At this point, you really only have to decide on whether you want to buy 79018 or not. Complaining about it now won't get LEGO to recall all the sets and redesign the whole thing. You can always modify it more to your taste later.
  14. Ocifant, those are not in the same scale as the minimodular previously released but they look cute.
  15. I agree AirborneAFOL. Though the growth in value of retired LEGO sets has gotten to the point where they are like uncut diamonds on the black market. LEGO sees themselves as offering a cradle to grave product at this point. The Duplos are compatible with the Juniors and LEGO System and minidoll lines. They have sets that appeal for every age range though it is the modulars that are aimed at the adults. My biggest issue with the modulars are the lackluster minifigs. But LEGO has a solution for that too, the CMF line. Sure, I wish that LEGO made products that targeted me a bit better such as continue LEGO Lord of the Rings, bringing back Vikings, Forestmen, and other historical sets for example. I think every AFOL and KFOL for that matter has a wish list of what they want. LEGO cannot meet all those demands... unless you MOC. But even then many find that they want new molds and prints to better define their world. The fact that you can buy individual bricks via The LEGO Store / Shop@Home or through third party sites such as Bricklink makes a lot of things possible.
  16. I know that the US gets sets early sometime, but it is useful to remember that the retailers catalog apparently says April. I bought we will get them in December. March is a possibility though.
  17. I think there is a big difference between Star Wars fans and Lord of the Rings fans in that SW fans have been trained from a very early age to buy almost anything with the characters likeness on it. It could be toys or pajamas or toothpaste. Lord of the Rings was for the longest time a literary fanbase. The movies drew in a new audience but that has not really translated to the marketing phenomena that Star Wars is. It is similar to iPhone versus Android phone users. There are now more Android users but it is the iPhone customers that are more willing to pay for apps. So many companies target iPhone users first. Perhaps we can reach outside of the existing LEGO Lord of the Rings but if the same percentage of general LotR fans bought LEGO that the Star Wars fans did, we wouldn't even need the petition.
  18. There are a lot of AFOLs but there interests are fragmented. Some only do Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. Others like myself cross themes but I am completely satisfied with modular and MOCing in the modular style. To me, MOCing is the most fulfilling part of this hobby even if it goes slower than I like. If none of the sets satisfy and you don't want to MOC, them another hobby might suit you more. I thought about model trains but I would tire of the scenery too quick. With LEGO I can repurpose the brick quickly.
  19. That appears to be the case, Mahtion. 2015 is Pirates year instead.
  20. I got a second Black Gate for $20 off from the clearance bin at Walmart.
  21. Thanks for the great review. I just noticed though that the swashbuckler has an orange chest instead of a yellow one. Ick.
  22. Does anyone already have a OneRing.net message board ID. They have a weekly message board round up and there is not that much traffic in their Gaming and Collecting forum. It should really gain some eyeballs that way.
  23. It is an excellent build especially at a reduced price. I have kept mine on display both because it looks good but also I have no plans to use the pieces. I think most AFOLs only resent that it took up a slot that might have given minifigs more in demand. The set itself is very nice.
  24. It might indeed. However I would think Pirates 2015 would take advantage of new CMF parts such as the swashbuckler / musketeer hat and the revolutionary soldier wig. Most lines seem to have such a small change budget that a new hat mold is avoided. Perhaps the person who gave the review confused the hat type. Didn't a lot of the soldiers wear hats that looked like extra tall top hats.
  25. I have been getting better at feeling the packs but I get bored if I do it too long. I wish the price increase did not happen. However, I sat out Simpsons wave 1 (except for the Maggie new torso) and I will set out the Simpsons wave 2. This means I will spend less on CMF, not more.
