  1. Very true, which is why a lot of the Walmarts around here didn't carry CMF for a while. I think the whole Hunt for Mr Gold expanded the stores that carried them. Still when I checked a Walmart in El Reno, all they had was three open bags and the base plates. Someone stole the minifigs but left the rest. I get different looks from my haunting the LEGO aisle though. I often straighten up the shelves while looking for good deals. I have given suggestions to parents and grandparents on what the different sets have (only if they look confused or ask) and will help others find the CMF they are looking for.
  2. I don't put much weight in the Brotherhood Workshop post. I made my decision based partly on no ad in Hobbit wave 3 sets, partly because Hobbit wave 2 sets said the adventure concludes in 2014, partly because D2C sets are generally the capstone on a line, partly because we haven't had a new LotR set since June 2013, but mostly because the 2015 retailers' catalogs says there will be no sets next year either. I guess there could sets listed for Jan 2016 but released in Dec 2015, but I find that really unlikely.
  3. But did he say for five years or did you extrapolate that? Because it is hard to believe they would lock down designs this far out. It might mean more than one modular in a year though.
  4. The discussion on these sets are in the 2015 LEGO Pirates rumors and discussion thread but the actual photos are here.
  5. ;-) LEGO Lord of the Rings has been a fun time for me. While I will miss not having new sets to look forward to, I will relish all the ones I do have. It brought me out of my Dark Ages, but there will be no new Dark Age coming. There are all the modular sets I love, CMF, Castle or Pirates when they have them, and a few Superhero sets too. Still without LEGO Lord of the Rings, my LEGO purchases may drop slightly. I don't feel the need to buy multiples of any of those others (excepting CMF).
  6. It's not dead... just resting. It is pining for the fjords.
  7. I agree on all points. By vague, I just did not want them to give a relationship to a father, husband, or boyfriend. She could be called Soldier, Officer, or Constance. But I never focused on the given minifig names as a kid and only consider them for licensed sets now.
  8. I think the female soldier will and should be left rather vague. For some kids she might be the Governor's Daughter. Others might consider her just a regular officer. I think that is not impossible. Women would disguise themselves as men for such jobs and if they were discovered to be female after they were discovered to be capable, they were accepted. Historically speaking, they just did not try to push for rights for all women. Just for themselves to be accepted as being the equal of a man.
  9. Change.org is a great site. I have signed many petitions before the LEGO Lord of the Rings one and many after. I would encourage fans to sign this petition but to also check out the site in general to see what other causes speak to you.
  10. Lovely builds... all three of them. I really love the texture of the bike shop build.
  11. I bought the second to the last Pet Shop at the OKC LEGO Store. I have been hoping to get where I am not on the cusp of missing a modular. At these prices and my other LEGO priorities, it is hard to get them. I have been considering skipping the Town Hall anyway. It is less for the price and more for I have never seen a Town Hall incorporated into a city block like that. I am used to seeing them was a lawn around them. Besides, I will quickly run out of space so I may have to be more considerate of which modulars I get going forward. The Palace Cinema and Parisian Restaurant is a definite buy for me. Depending on the architectural style a detective office would be a good fit too.
  12. Four Battle Goddesses (Athenas) and two Huns in Series 12 CMF. I am only missing the life guard but I don't care enough to feel any more bags for him.
  13. Decals are allowed. But how about cloth? I am considering an entry for a black veil for Arwen. Can I use any cloth cut into a veil or even just limited to a LEGO cape?
  14. Thanks for the great review. I will buy the set at retail, though it is not a day on purchase for me.
  15. It is a reasonable answer. Why shut down an ongoing conversation because some want it to stop? It would be the same if I declared other active conversations be locked. I think this thread might sink quickly if it was no longer pinned though.
  16. I don't think the thread should be locked. If the discussions are too repeative for you, don't read the thread. I think the thread shouldn't be pinned to the top of the message board anymore though.
  17. I would say only LEGO management knows for sure. I think one of the things that bothers fans is we know more sets were designed than were ever released. It is highly likely a third wave was designed and the sets / minifigs approved by WB. But the business decision was made to not go live with them. I agree that the Hobbit films appeal to a narrower audience the LotR and that hurt sales. Back when LotR came out there was not an entire Marvel cinematic uninverse and that films treated the material more seriously. Still, without the Hobbit films LEGO would never gave us the two waves and the D2C Orthanc set. I enjoyed the entire line.
  18. The line feels incomplete but I feel no shame in my collection. LEGO will move on and prosper. It won't be cursed by a line that was not as fleshed out as we all want.
  19. My swashbuckler has an orange cheat. Yuck. I guess I don't need multiples of him.
  20. Galactic, most people who were engaged in this thread took the fact that there is no Middle-Earth sets in the 2015 retailers catalog as the final sign that there is no LotR sets coming. The reason for the abrupt end of the line can always we debated though. The scheduling changes for the Hobbit finals doubtless played role. But TLG came out of 17 sets for The LEGO Movie. That move pushed LEGO to the most profitable toy company in the world. The production time and shelf space, I believe, came at the expense of The Lord of the Rings lines. Despite how it affects us, that would have been the right decision. We will never know the sells figures for any given line. So we can only speculate if it undersold or meet expectations. Designers have frequently said that it was a favorite for them.
  21. Sadly so. Besides, the scale is off between DGB and WKB / DGA. The two small sets work well together, but the structure of DGB is much taller. I doubt anyone is going to be WKB for the brickset. They are just a small addition to your MOC piles. Fans will get this set for the minifigures or skip it altogether.
  22. The initial post has been update with comparison photos with the other Dul Guldur sets.
  23. Out of the two, I recommend DGB. Even though it is ruins, the build doesn't feel random. I could finish building the Goblin King set. The placement of the pieces just felt random.
  24. Deathleech, I completed the comparison photos of all the DG sets and added them to my review.
  25. I just finished building my copy of DGB so I will have a shot of all DB sets together tomorrow. I have to say WKB is really small compared to DGB and just regular small next to DGA. Also DGA uses a different kind of connection pin than what WKB and DGA use. So WKB and DGA can be mixed slightly but only set near DGA without MODing.
