Would you like the Vikings theme to return?
Blakstone replied to Alfadas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I know that I need to get to building some Vikings myself. I bought enough long boat hull to build a decent ship. I just need to get a lab setup to make free building a lot easier to do. Alfadas, that looks pretty good. I think you could make it look better if you used a lower camera angle. A white sheet can also double as a drop cloth. -
The house with the red door in Braavos
Blakstone replied to Wat Tambor's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice work. Interesting use of Sting as the door bracket. I like it. -
The UCS Tumbler is beautiful but at that price it is a pass for me still. I am not striving for a complete Superheroes collection. I would definitely buy a $50 - $60 to get those two minifigures. Perhaps if they added three or four more Nolan-verse minifigures I would do it. There are just two many more $150 - $200 sets that are on my list before I would ever get to this.

Or it is not an important cause to them. I think it is unwise to attack people over their position unless they are hurting others. While such exclusives run the risk of driving collectors from the hobby, no lives will be ruined. You might be able to change minds through polite dialog though. I am still holding on the last shreds of hope for LEGO Lord of the Rings. It was what bright me back from my Dark Ages. But if I cannot get more of those, I did eBay / Bricklink a bunch of Vikings. A new, more serious take on Vikings would be very appreciatef. Cartoony Castle such as 2013s is just clearance fodder for me.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Spud, as expensive as collecting LEGO is, collecting modulars it much more expensive. There is a new modular released each year... which means that there is another modular that retires each year. It will cost you between $150 - $200 USD each year. For my taste, I don't like the simplistic minifigures that come with the sets. So I add the CMF to them which increases the cost of the habit. My only recommended to make them cheaper is to buy them from either the LEGO Store or Shop.LEGO.com during October. That is traditionally double VIP Points month. So for a $150 purchase, you would earn $15 to help defray the cost of your next modular. I noticed that they did Double VIP Points for the first half of April this year as well. -
No. I think they meant it. But there are four exclusive minifigs given away in the raffle including one Marvel (Collector) and one DC (unknown), but there are exclusive sets being sold including the 1966 Batmobile and Rocket's Warbird. The hope is that the exclusive sets being sold contain minifigs that will be included elsewhere later. The LEGO Movie "exclusive" set says it will be released in January as a regular set.

No, Azog wasn't. He was handed out randomly but not mentioned in the press releases or as part of the raffle.

LEGOFreak, I am not so sure. I suspect while the body print is reused in Wave 3 that the legs won't be. That makes it a true exclusive. It is similar to Sauramon. The cheap set had white legs while the Orthanc had a printed dress piece.
-
Yes, but only one Marvel and one DC one given out this year. The Hobbit and The LEGO Movie take the other two exclusive spots. I would think that would be good news for this forum.

That is an awesome print. Provided it isn't too crazy on eBay, I might pick it up. The one of four part is interesting. I suspect instead of giving away four Superhereo minifigs last previous years, they are giving away four across all their themes. But if there will be four Hobbit exclusive (non preview) for SDCC this year, I will skip this one altogether.

My thoughts is that you don't need both Gimli and Legolas in the Pirate Ship Ambush. Since Gimli makes more sense in the Elrond set, I would only have him there in wave 2. I just wonder if you could do alternate prints for Aragon and Legolas in that set. But the only possibility I could come up with is battle damage,

While I doubt that we will ever see the four exclusive minifigures given away again, I think the exclusive sets that are sold will be a smaller version (or Chibi as namioik said) of regular sets. This would mean that while the configuration of bricks are exclusive but the minifgures will be seen in a better set.

Nice build. I did not even know that there was wall panels shaped like logs before this. I like that you incorporated period appropriate artillery over the cell to take advantage of the wider walkway there. Using spears as the missiles makes a lot of display sense too. But I agree that LEGO would likely switch them out for something that parents would be less concerned over. -
The different lines appear to have different strategies going into ComicCon. I am very appreciative of how The Hobbit was treated last year. There was chase items and an exclusive set, but by the time the year would out, everyone had access to all the minifigs. It seems a lot worse for the Superheroes lines. Fortunately while I enjoy some of those sets, I don't collect them.

I think Shelob Attacks was there to give us Gollum. However, we got a slightly different print of him with Wave 1 Hobbit as well as slightly smaller brickbuilt spiders. This set became redundant. But it was a great addition to wave 1 LotR at the time. The only issue is once we got Wave 2 LotR, the only really iconic set we got was the Orthanc. Even if TLG did not change the actual builds in the second wave, different minifigs or at least different prints for more than Gandalf and Aragon would have made it better. Instead we got too many duplicate characters from the two combined waves.

Welcoem to Eurobricks. I am aware of only one LEGO Store / Shop@Home Marvel exclusive. It was a minifig sized Hulk.

And confirmed another Batman set this year. It might be the UCS Tumbler with Nolan Joker and Batman. But there will definitely be another one.

The only Black Falcon I have comes from the Kingdom Joust set. It has a nice update to the two shields. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Kingdoms-Joust-10223

There has been no official word on what will be revealed at SDCC or if anything Hobbit related even will be. Past experience strongly suggests that there will be one set revealed. I agree with many here that it is likely the one with Smaug. Last year, I think the Hobbit had a bigger presence than the year before. TLG gave out an Azog preview minifigure which was labeled as exclusive and sold an exclusive small Bagend set. I hope we get that big of a treatment this year. It is even possible that they will reveal the entire wave 3 line. But I am skeptical about that.

Never would happen but I would be willing to spend a fair amount for some of those figs. Eowyn and the Witchking the most. Even if people could not get the official ones from SDCC, it would trigger people to sell duplicates of them on eBay.

I believe the designers video admitted that this set was added to give Pirates fans something of interest for the year. I have no beef with that. The only compliant I ever had for this set is that Gimli is in it. This is the four set he was included in. I felt that was overkill and the space could be better used for another Corsair. Right now Pirate Ship Ambush is one of only two Tolkein sets I have on display. I added extra ghost soldiers to it. The other is Bagend. I need to get Helms Deep back out but it so large to make it hard to display. I have not even build my copy of the Orthanc until I figure out where to display it. Unlike many of my other LotR and Hobbit sets, I don't want to scrap it after I build it. As to the Future of LEGO LotR, we know that the Hobbit adventure concludes this year (according to the ad in last year's instructions). While it is highly unlikely that LotR will continue, I think most of us are waiting until this year's Hobbit sets. I will lose all hope if there is not an ad for LotR there.
-
I think a licensed line would be more profitable but only when there is existing media tie-in to help drive sales. However, this will be the last Hobbit film so there is not any media tie-in to drive a third LotR wave. I see many reference the DVD release of Battle of the Five Armies, but I don't see there being enough advertising blitz to allow LEGO Lord of the Rings to ride the coat tails. I think the LEGO is going to do a complete reset on Castle. Hopefully it will include minifigure prints that have a broader appeal to adults without turning off kids. Castle 2013 is going on clearance without any new sets on the horizon.

This reminds me of the exclusive Bagend set from last year. Fortunately there was not any exclusive minifigures in that one. I suspect there will be a Guardians polybag with this version of Rocket. After all, it is an exclusive set, not necessarily an exclusive minifig. That said, if this version is not available from another source, I completely understand everyone's frustration.

I think the polybags make for a great impulse purchase or a way to slightly increase the size of a gift to someone. The Laketown Guard also a way to maximize use of the otherwise unique helmet from Laketown Chase. I get the frustration for those where these are not readily available. Most stores in my area do not carry any polybags. Target has some seasonal ones and a couple of other lines polies (Starwars, City, and Chima mostly). For the Hobbit ones, I have to check Toys R Us. As long as the polybags don't include exclusive minifigures, I don't get the desire for them to go away just because they are not in one's area. This year, I think we will continue to get them. There will be one of a major character which we won't need more copies of. Maybe that will be Thorin this time. There will also be an army builder. While it could be an orc, I would much rather get a Ironhills dwarf. I could see that have an great print and new helmet.

I generally get a few when I first see them and if they are still around I get a few more. I don't want to deprive other FOLs the opportunity.
