Could you please give some examples as pictures of what is in there? I´m interested and have no doubts it´s worth the money because your LDD skills are among the best as far as I know and you might have put a lot of work into it.

This is really GRANDE, and so many Bricks on Wheels ! Very impressive, especially when such a thing is built within 4 months only! Don´t know if somebody already asked, maybe it sounds kind of strange, but it´s always the first question in my mind when I see your creations: What are those wheels you have used?

This sounds kind of religious and I disagree on nature (small n) doing or imposing anything on us, but you can believe what you want and I don´t want to argue on this basis because this is not the right place to discuss about things like that. There are of course laws in nature such as in physics or mathematics, usefull to understand and to implement on trivial things like Lego. There is no diabolical business scheme, it´s simply a question of reason in order to save money and be competitive on the market. The efficiency is given deliberately, on purpose and by correspondent design (with the help of smart computers of course). Not to be theoretical, here is a practical example: recently I bought the 42042 crawler crane. It features a really intelligent design, nice building techniques and a bunch of blue parts – a WHOLE bunch of 15L beams and NOT ONE single 13L beam! I realized just yesterday that it´s very sad if you´d like to have some in your stock for example to build a MOC and be variable and not be limited by this sort of redundancy. The whole color coding issue with fancy colorful axles, rare and unbelievable expensive axle connectors at specific angles in specific colors can drive you mad sometimes. It´s not nice at all. So don´t be angry about me, but I (Edit: totally) disagree on your viewpoint. Anyway I like this product like you do and appreciate especially the constantly growing part diferentiation which allows us to have fun by creating new unseen unlimited varieties of sticking parts together . Cheers!

Maybe some interesting questions are raised here stimulating some thinking and eventual conclusions. First I´m not sure which point of view you are looking from –the business company, customer or independent scientist. If to assume one of them, so probably there would come up several pros and cons to make solid conclusions. Such terms as efficiency supported by redundancy seem to be contradictory for an average guy like me, but I try to understand that the scaling exponent follows some natural laws. If a system gets more complex it has to increase efficiency, but usually it doesn´t happen proportionally and more redundancy occurs automatically. One thing you can say for sure that it´s getting more complex and more efficient for sure with time. The development of computers or electronic systems can be predicted by mathematics. Despite of this I hope the robots won´t overtake our world soon! My personal thoughts are that the data don´t say anything conclusive to me as a normal Lego customer or regular MOD/MOC builder. Would I prefer to buy a set because of its higher part count and higher parts differentiation even if the two factors are not proportional? Not always, but mostly Yes. Is this set the one I prefer to play with because it has a lot of different parts or functions? Yes and No because some are good to handle and some are not. The overall design and looks are as important to me and I simply don´t like Star Wars or Bionicles, no matter how high the differentiation of used parts may be or price per piece. Would I build my MOCs faster or more efficiently, reduce total part counts if I would have more different parts available? Don´t really think so, depends more on developing skills like training on a chessboard. Maybe the profit oriented companies can do something with this sort of data, and I´m sure they do their own research similar to this primarily for higher efficiency in doing business – an aspect I don´t care about as a customer. I spend too much money on this anyway ;-).... Sorry if I couldn´t understand all of this stuff but thank you for your research!

I´m really wondering if the discussion still can be taken seriously at this point. To say "a joke" is an exaggerated judgement about the 8070 set IMveryHO! If you don´t like the one compared to the other, it´s fine. I don´t like the older sets like 8880 or 8448 anymore, when I look at the Porsche, but for that time they were really pleasant and enjoyable for me and they were worth every penny I´ve been working hard for to purchase them back then. So please try to design a better 1:10 scale car with 1281 pieces with such great functionality and overall look, I wanna see it (I´d not be able to)! You cannot make a judgement by piece count comparison alone, because these cars are built at different times, in different scales, the new one uses advanced parts availability and nobody still knows what it has to offer regarding playability. -
Instructions have been fixed for all models. Sorry that the mentionned 3 PF options are not clearly shown there, but with a bit creativity the car can be reduced to the medium or minimum option which will still function. The corresponding gear reduction is shown as A - B - C. There are 4 different DTM cars now and it should be more than enough as a tribute for this racecar . Last but not least here is another version with a nice colour variation from Thorsten which I like very much. Maybe somebody is willing to modify the car to an Audi or Mercedes with some changes at the bodywork as proposed by Thorsten or make a full manual car with transmission, V8 engine, manual steering or whatsoever. Instructions can be downloaded for free here: http://rebrickable.com/mocs/Thorsten50/bmw-m4-dtm-samsung This is a driver from Belgium - Maxime Martin who finished 7th in last season. Hopefully the whole BMW M4 fleet will accomplish better this year!

Having much space behind the rear seats - here another wild speculation: there is a little chance to have more than 4 gears - e.g. R+N+6. This would require 2 x 4 speed gearboxes which are selected alternately. By the way - it could imitate a kind of the modern double-shift gearbox! A few months ago I experimented with such a gearbox, it wouldn´t fit into a 1:10 car, but 1:8 scale would be a different thing. However, I couldn´t make it work by remote which is always my goal, so I stopped at some point because I simply couldn´t aquire enough patience (and brain cells probably too ). And yes, the whole steering wheel section is ugly , but I want to know how it works! Any new leaks? -
Thanks for sharing this crazy wiesel! Especially the trick with the slow current increase is great, I also have such troubles sometimes and will consider this solution in future. You must have had a lot of fun and did get the speed and efficiency to the max and it´s a considerable achievement!

It looks cute, kind of unreal, first I thought it is just digital... Great art, especially the engine! -
Thanks for sharing! I love it to see both cars together, even if they are costructed with very different ideas and concepts behind. The adjustment of the servo must be done right at the step when the steering is being installed at step #50 on page 80. Have to appologize for Thorsten here because the instructions updates are still in progress, together with another unique blue/whith version of the BMW. He doesn´t talk too much (at least to me ), he just prefers to shut up and work. As soon as they will be uploaded, this information will be posted here. I guess you can go directly to bricklink from rebrickable to check the estimated parts cost. It depends a bit on the country you´re living. If you opt for a manual version to design by yourself, you would save some money for PF of course. Then good luck with it and please post it here too! Mercedes AMG (2 doors only) - that´s exactly what I´m dreaming of already as C - Model alternative for the new Porsche ! I asked Thorsten to integrate somehow the 3 different PF / gearing options accordingly, we will see how far he could addapt them into the BI. Anyway I guess it´s not too difficult to figure out for yourself the best solution you can match with the equipment you have available. If I got you playing a little bit - it´s a nice success for me as well .

I would love it in black colour (except the interior) with decent GT3 (not GT2!) stickers and stripes in any colour. And it seems to me this set won´t come out before autumn, so it should be overrun as for Christmas presents (cannot immagine a better present!). I think a price tag about 300 Euros for such huge model at 1:8 scale with estimated 3.500 parts AND (???) new RC components, hopefully bluetooth via smartphone, would be justified nowadays. Please anybody who goes by - open the bonnets! I have a nice C - model in mind already (another German car of course ). Anyway the expectations here are way too high already IMO and I really doubt they will be met all together. -

.... I really must admit I didn´t get so excited for a long time ! Those fenders / panels / wheels / brakes (?) / gearbox definitely set a milestone in the development. Thanks Jim, you made my day! -
No complaints at all. Only "you shall not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain". Not only in Europe, I can´t help it other than this way. I´m glad you said this ! Don´t worry, be happy The medium PF option would be as suggested, only you forgot a 2nd IR receiver. Gear reduction 3:1 - 1:1 (I don´t count the differential every time). Can´t wait for the 42052 - will be a great part supplier, especially all these panels!
-
It was a bit of German sarkasm, please don´t take it too serious and forgive me! My next car will probably be a blue Japanese .
-
Thanks, Kumpel ! You are 1 in a 1.000 who have downloaded. Whisper: you know, everybody likes German cars, but not everybody likes you and me! But who cares, I can live with it. The earth is round flat and there is nothing behind the ocean ( )! And thumbs up for Thorsten, this crazy genious! 1 receiver can provide enough energy. Of course the batteries won´t last long. V2 is better than V1, but really not much.

Back in black. Everybody knows how rare the black 19L soft axles have been ever since. I´d come up with 16L at the fenders edges which look not bad too. All in all I like the black version, not too boring compared to the coloured. Jaap is really busy and a bit behind with the stickers. Doesn´t bother me, I made my own composition. Technically I tried the minimum PF version using only 2 XL motors, 1 servo, 1 receiver / 1 sender and 1 battery. The drivetrain is geared up by a 36/12 – 12/20 gear reduction. Of course the car is slower this way, but it works fine. Instructions are being updated and will be replaced in the next few days. Several pins were missing and some minor improvements had to be done. 3 different options for the PF equipment will be shown. The files will be substituted under the same links – just download them again. If anybody has difficulties with anything, don´t hesitate to tell it. Maybe we have a chance to win the race for the Top MOC competition on rebrickable! Honestly, I don´t expect everybody to say "Oh thank you for the instructions!", but it would be a little but nice compensation for the efforts.
-
Thanks Thorsten! Maybe this black Lego version is the most "boring" one because it mostly consists of black parts. But on the other hand - it is easier to build concerning the availability of parts. I´m waiting for some black pneumatik hoses to arrive and then build it with the minimum PF requirements to see if it still works well. A side note concerning the DTM driver Bruno Spengler: he changed his team during the 2015 season (MTEK) and then got number 7. He finished 5th - that was the best BMW ranking .... Now only the white M4 DTM version is to follow (Martin Tomczyk) ... And I won´t build the AMG Mercedes, maybe somebody else is willing to.
-
Thorsten even didn´t mention that he made complete building instructions for his favourite version of the DTM M4 ! They are online and can be downloaded for free: http://rebrickable.com/mocs/Thorsten50/bmw-m4-dtm-shell-rc All parts are available in the shown colours. He also prepared a unique sticker assembly which will be customized soon by Jaap Technic and be offered on his website. This car has been driven by Augusto Farfus. He finished 12th in last season.
-
I like it very much! Ok, we can go on with the project and make also completely white and black versions at least virtually. I´ll try to gain a stock of the required panels this year and build all of them in real when the time will allow it. Some decent stickers would be nice to add too if Jaap or whosoever is willing to invest some more effort for them. Pride is something I´m trying to avoid for myself, but let´s say it gives us satisfaction for some time, even if ignorant people sometimes even don´t recognize our shelfs during the visit . Thanks, I´m not sure about your statement , but again: your new car also isn´t so bad at all (understatement). There are many things I have to learn besides the maximum usage of Technic panels - e.g. about gearboxes and reducing part counts of course. And I´m always trying to think about the playability as major factor, not to overload my mind on the outer look (which is primarily set by the blueprints). This car doesn´t have too many alternating curves in the bodywork, it was much easier to make than the LaFerrari. I also didn´t ever try to make my entirely self designed supercar which would be a challenge too. Don´t spend too much money, be creative ! The actual PF setup as given in the building instructions simply is what I had available at the time (I have only 2 rechargeable batteries and they are at least 2 years old). IMO the minimum requirement would be 2 XL motors, 1 IR receiver and 1 rechargeable battery accompanied with a 3:1 gearing. The speed difference is not that much. I have the strong suspission that new batteries will make some difference too.

Today I got these lovely renders from blakbird, many thanks to him. Now this project is accomplished. Some Lego heads turned yellowish of jealousy and some Lego hearts were made happy including mine. It was a nice experience to share it even if getting no money for the work and especially to get such unexpected support for the post processing, thanks to all!

[MOC] Simple Supercar
brunojj1 replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
IMO the many parts are not a minus on the quality of the car. Why should we be minimalistic in design when we can use the parts in a smart and interesting way to achieve rigidity, density and a good look. Another thing if the TLC guys have to follow such strict rules in order to save money for bigger profit for the company. I like the old hubs because I can´t see any advantage in the new ones. I couldn´t resist to play a bit with the colour scheme : -
Instructions have been corrected in shortest time and now everything should be fine. A link for the stickers has been added too. Special thanks to Thorsten ! I wish everybody much fun with it and a good start into the New Year!
