Good point. Either way, I'm tired of waiting for 16, and looking forward to news on 17. :-) -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
SirBlake replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It's funny, we had news about Series 16 in December 15 or January 16, which is due out September-ish, but we have no clue what is to follow. -
Love it! I've been there a few times and added some paint myself. You really captured the random color well. The size/scale works great too.

[MOC] 1952 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup Truck
SirBlake replied to LegoManTroy's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I like it, but if I'm perfectly honest, I can't get over the proportions. The cab especially is just too scrunched up. I think you need a longer wheelbase. -
Possible new Speed Champions set? New FORD GT / Classic GT40
SirBlake replied to P3_Super_Bee's topic in LEGO Town
Hooray! I'm so happy the GT won its class. Back to the old Ford/Ferrari rivalry. I love it. -
Love it all! Raptor looks good extended and the bed cover works nicely. The R8 is especially cool because I've been considering doing one in street trim. I'd be fine with doing a street version in white, but the 2-white/2-black wheel arches are killin' me from a parts perspective.

That looks good. I like the matching Mustang instead of the Model A on the trailer too.

Thanks for the feedback! I've done this kind of thing a few times. Get inspired by something specific, then iterate on it with different colors and focus on changing up the details. I did that with the Highway Speedster Creator set (from 2012, I think) and a different series of hot rods in a larger scale, and it's been really rewarding.

Possible new Speed Champions set? New FORD GT / Classic GT40
SirBlake replied to P3_Super_Bee's topic in LEGO Town
Wow! Cars look great and what a fun video. I'd buy both for sure. I'd love to have that vintage Ford race suit too. Too bad it's just for promo purposes. Maybe they'll come around next year. Stranger things have happened. -
They did a great job on this one. My only concern, and it is minor, is that the tires are just too wide for a bug. They're supposed to be narrow pizza-cutter wheels and tires. Like I said, minor concern.

Vintage LEGO 6061 Siege Tower ! Review !
SirBlake replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Love this set. Not only is the wall beautifully simple, and the siege tower fantastic, but the modularity makes plugging it into a larger castle a real joy. Makes me wish for similar modularity in a modern castle line. -
Thanks y'all! The LotR gold rings were my 10 year old daughter's favorite part too. These have been really fun. Hopefully this theme continues next year too. It's fun to see TLG's interpretation of real cars and even more fun to mod them to my taste.

As soon as I started modding the Model A Hot Rod that comes with 75875, I knew I couldn't stop there. I decided that I needed to hit all of the different body styles for a Model A (Coupe, Sedan, Roadster, Pick up). This was an interesting challenge because there were some serious part limitations, but some of the best results come from that type of challenge. Here's a link to the black with flames coupe: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=134717 Other Speed Champions Mods: 2016 cars http://www.eurobrick...opic=122188&hl= 2015 cars http://www.eurobrick...36#entry2154620 As I built them, I experimented with different ways to handle the front bumpers, headlights, engines/exhaust and tail light treatments. Each one also has a different solution for the windshield. So here's the coupe for quick reference: Model A Sedan This one uses a "suicide style" front end treatment that puts the wheels farther out front. It also incorporates the little visor look that Model A's have over the windshield. Model A Roadster I opted to slam this one so the body is almost on the ground instead of the "hot rod rake" stance of the others. It also is intended to look like a Buick Nailhead V8 with a roots supercharger. Model A Pick Up The main thing for this one was to get away from basic primary colors and go for something that looked more vintage. To spice it up I went for Hemi gold accents on the engine and a wood plank bed. The air cleaner is made from a wheel and I used extra white border from the sticker sheet of 75875 to mimic an air filter element. Lastly, some shots of the Hot Rod garage.

Once again, I just couldn't be more pleased with this year's Speed Champion sets. As some of you will recall, I've been widening the standard Speed Champion cars to be 8 studs wide. I just prefer the aesthetic, and now my drivers aren't centered in what is supposed to be a 2 or 4 seat car. 2016 cars http://www.eurobrick...opic=122188&hl= 2015 cars http://www.eurobrick...36#entry2154620 The Model A was a special case because while it surely wasn't the scale that would necessitate 8-stud width, I didn't think it needed to be 6 studs either, so I went with 5, which keeps it a small old hot rod size, but is still more to scale than the tiny 4-stud configuration that comes with the set. In addition to the change in width, I've done a lot of detail work, from the engine to the back of the car. I didn't change much on the Raptor but did add to the garage pit area. This was so much fun I immediately began building more hot rods in this style and scale. Edit: Here's a link to the other hot rods. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=134719 Enjoy! For comparison, here is the stock version:

Vintage LEGO 6022 Horse Cart ! Review !
SirBlake replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Love it. I have this one on display as it was assembled by my 10 year old hands. -
For me personally, 2016 is the biggest disappointment since I emerged from my dark ages 5 years ago. No real castle and Nexo Knights is like a bad joke (just my opinion, you're entitled to yours if you disagree). The only saving graces have been a great new Speed Champions wave and some solid CMF series.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 Rumors and Discussion
SirBlake replied to 8BrickMario's topic in Special LEGO Themes
None of these details bother me. Whether rogue or ranger, he'll be whatever I want him to be for a given application and the Wolfpack pin is little more than an Easter egg as far as I'm concerned. This minifig is the highlight of the series for me. I'm just glad Castle continues to get some love in the CMF line. -
Looks great! Like it could be an official set.
