  1. Interesting update: talked to the guy at the local TRU who is the most Lego knowledgeable. He was surprised to hear about the old sets getting a price hike and figured it was a glitch in the "system". He went on to say that he expected last years sets to get clearanced in the next week or two. Fingers crossed.
  2. If you want to put it on Ideas, I think you would have to scale it back with an eye toward actual production. As it stands, it has too many parts and details to be realistically considered. Put another way, even if it made it to the review stage and was approved, whatever the final product ended up being would be barely related to this build.
  3. I really like this. From the scale to the layout to the details, very well done.
  4. The 2015 sets were regular price ($15) only a couple of weeks ago. I figured it was a local store mistake that they were marked up until I went to another location yesterday and found the same thing. I swear, TRU is the worst.
  5. I dig it. Has a Mopar feel to it for sure.
  6. Great way to display some amazing classic sets. Nice work!
  7. I talked to the manager at my local TRU a couple of weeks ago. He said to expect the new stuff any day and that last year's sets would go on sale once they arrived. Went in yesterday, all of the new stuff is there, but so is a shelf full of a ton of last year's McLaren's and LaFerrari's fresh out of the case. Ready for the weird part? The year-old $15 sets were priced at $18. I talked to an assistant manager about it, but she basically just gave me a shrug and said I dunno. Too bad too, because I could use that LaFerrari's red wheel arches and some other parts for a custom Speed Champions build I'm working on. (stay tuned for that one)
  8. Great review! I still have this one from when I was a kid. I always used it as a kind of guard post outside the King's Castle, using the black falcon figs to bolster the opposing army. It was probably the red in the build that led me down that path.
  9. Nice! Thanks for posting that here. I think Peter Pan might be useful, and Ursula's tentacle legs are rad.
  10. I have the sticker sheet scanned, and if I get to it, will probably redraw the elements in Illustrator. I really don't know when I'll get to it, but I'll happily share in this thread if/when I do.
  11. Looks like this thread needs a new name with the Camaros added. Here's the '69 Camaro in 8-stud form. I liked the idea of larger back wheels/tires, but what came on there was just a bit too far for me so I went with these. I may still add a black stripe in the middle of the white, but it looked pretty good as a single wide stripe so I'll go with that for now. The one thing that I'm going to change for sure is that I'm going to widen the grill sticker. I scanned them all in before applying, so it shouldn't be too tough. I have some water slide decal paper. Hopefully that works. But I didn't want that to delay me getting these photos up. Apologies in advance for the dust. It shows up bad on the black and I was in a bit of a rush... Edit: it's kind of hard to tell in the photos, but the back window is using two dark trans window panels that are just nestled in there. I didn't want to go opaque black like the red one since it's a black car. Here's the stocker for comparison. Thanks again Brothers Brick for having the best photos I could find:
  12. Thank you sir! Brick on I shall. I prefer brick built too, but I didn't see a way to do this one without having a Chevy Bowtie in the grill. I don't know that I'll do the race cars, as my passion is really for the street cars, but these are so fun to do, I just might. Dang, that's a great idea. I wish I had documented that. Essentially what I've been doing is starting with 6 wide or 8 wide plate (whichever works for that model) and attaching wheel arches and building front and rear bumpers and then connecting everything in the middle. Y'all stay tuned. I've got a 69 Camaro to take pictures of.
  13. This thread now with 100% more Camaro! I haven't finished modding the '69 yet, but here's the newer one. This one I think benefitted most from the mods. I think the stock version is pretty terrible, but man, it sure turned out nice now that it's wider and some of the details have been tweaked. I used some of the extra sticker sheet that had black printed on it and widened the grill sticker. That helped a lot, I think. Here's the stocker for comparison (photo credit: Brothers Brick)
  14. I like where you're going there. Putting the skinny tires on the front. I may have to try that tonight.
  15. Some nice thoughts on scale, thanks for that! I think part of it is that our beloved minifig is proportionally wider than the average human for his height, so a car needs to be somewhat wider to accommodate them. I don't have any other town scale cars, so it works for my collection. They actually look good next to the medium sized creator cars like these:
  16. Thank you sir! I guess Lego long ago decided that City/Town scale cars would be that narrow. I don't get it, but it's so fun to mod them, I'm not complaining.
  17. Man, this Speed Champions line is great. That said, I have been vocal about my distaste for the narrow proportions and centered driver. You can go here to check out a thread that shows my widened SC LaFerrari and Porche 918 from last year: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=106436#entry2154620 I was psyched to pick up a few new sets last night and stayed up until the wee hours of the morning widening a couple of them. Mustang: Corvette: As a refresher, here they are in stock form:
  18. I found the whole wave at TRU last night, bought the Vette and came home to my Mustang and Camaros on the front porch. I stayed up way too late last night building the Mustang and Vette and then modding them to be 8 studs wide. I'm really happy with the results. I think they look ridiculous at 6 studs wide. So goofy/skinny. Stay tuned for a thread on the new mods. I have to take some decent pics.
  19. The scale is just right. Nice work!
  20. I'll have to build the camaro and see it in person. I think I'd rather it have the same front wheels all around but it might grow on me.
  21. This is really nice. I'd love to see it in the brick. Not bad for ideas, but I have to imagine that it'd get more attention if there were more color to it.
  22. I agree that this theme isn't perfect, but it gives me good bones for modding which is enough for me. I still can't believe I'm getting minifigs with Ford logos on them. I'm im heaven.
  23. Nice! Thanks J2G. Do the Vette or Camaros next! (If you have them, that is)
  24. These are great! While I personally can't abide a scale that only allows for a single seat in the center, you really captured the essence of these cars.
  25. That was a no-brainer for me. Order now! lol I have a harder time liking the race cars just because they make an already too-stickered piece even more so. Still, of the race cars, I think the R8 is pretty cool. Don't think I'll be getting that one though. I got all of the non-race cars last year and I'll do the same this year. I'm defining race car as one in race spec with sponsor stickers and such. So even though the Camaros are racing, they look like street cars. Plus, I'm just psyched for the American cars.
