  1. I think your effort shows & delivers very well: I would have never thought someone would manage to make me read a crawler instructions from step 1 to final without getting bored. About the power/agile modes, this is exactly the new Zetros set is lacking, in my opinion!
  2. I think that to be perfectly faithful, 2x 1x3 beams should be added on the back panel, just like you did it on the sides. Other than that, it seems like a flawless studlessization: congrats!
  3. I am not really into trial vehicles, so I am rather really impressed by the way you "think ahead" your model, especially with the different steering & suspension modes and the removable body easy locking. In terms of performance, it seems really good at what it is designed for and it feels comfortable with any situation. Very well done, sir!
  4. Now that you mention it, it would totally make sense: the gearbox would have been scrapped for cost reasons but not the diff lock because they wanted to use this function as this model's main feature...
  5. I know that, thanks ;) When looking at the videos, it seems that this model has a bit too much torque for its weight and will exhibit its real power on perfect grip slopes conditions, which reduces its playability, especially since driving is pretty much its only real function. TLG should have implemented a low/high gearbox to allow for more playing scenarios.
  6. In that case, I think that you should present it with the best option you have at hand, to let your MOC speak for itself the best way possible. Let the audience people choose what they want to implement from it, depending on their own preferences and resources. Just my thought, of course, because I really like your model and wish the best for it!
  7. Dang, that thing is just soooooo slooooooow... 'Tis true that I am far from being an expert in trial trucks, but I am pretty sure anything going this slowly even scaled to this model's size would be just laughed at over and over!
  8. Very nice! But you should definitely use the metal hook for such a crane:
  9. This must be so harsh for you, so sorry you have to endure that... I sincerely hope it could end up less bad than expected!
  10. After discussing after a few AFOLs, most often the space question is the only real problem. Lego can be seen as a toy, I do not think many people (even among wives) find it stupid. Useless at worst, maybe... But it teaches so many things and with visible results that even that would be exagerated. However, it is true that it takes space, especially for those living in an appartment (like me) and cannot imagine re-selling or giving away parts of their collection! And if our LEGOs get in the way or become too messy, it can trigger some unrelated criticism... This is why we have to be creative to manage our passion without taking TOO much space... which is part of the fun, in the end!
  11. I really like your story! And you did not have a second dark age since then?
  12. Hi all, One thing I find rather facinating with LEGO is that most – if not all – AFOLs have gone through the famous "dark age", which has usually kept them out of bricking activities during many years before brutally coming back to business. Personally, mine started at the age of 15, in 1995. I had been playing LEGO since I was 5 and got some great sets in Castle, City and Technic themes, my very last set being the famouse Claw Rig (#8868). I had much pleasure to build and rebuild it again after trying its B model, but it was not enough to keep me in. I cannot be sure, but I think that what cut me off LEGO was the incoming of internet at my house: it was very early for that in France, but my interest for networks was soaring at that time. I also already was a video game fan and I was starting to publish walkthroughs on my webpage back then. My dark age ended in late 2019 : my young daughter had been offered a Duplo brick box as a birthday present. This set was lacking figures, so I tried to see if I could find some on the net. And then I started to see what was going on in the brick world at that time. In the middle of this ocean of available sets, the 911 RSR really flashed in my eye, and the great price reduction I spotted finished the work. I really enjoyed building it, feeling again some goold old sensations, even if the model was not really a challenge nor very interesting. So when I tried to find some designs ideas to make it better (and especially adding it a HOG), I stumbled upon Rebrickable and BrickLink, both of them I totally ignored the existence thereof. And boom, after that, it took me less than 2 years to accumulate about 50 sets + a good dozen of the community's MOCs. Something else which still baffles me with this "dark age" period is how much the LEGO news and product were completely transparent to me during those 24 years. LEGO made no TV ads in France at that time, and no related website caught my eyes either. In fact, the only contact I had with LEGO was news I could read about their video games and movies, which made me think they were completely changing their core business! But clearly, even if I played LEGO for a large part of my childhood, my brain just snapped out of it completely in a few months before making me an AFOL just as quickly. Now I would really like to hear from other AFOLs' dark age, and especially: - At which age did it happen and how much time did it last? - What has been its starting & ending cause(s), if any? - Were you even aware of what was going on in the LEGO world during that time or not at all? - Have you been able to recover some of your childhood's sets/MOCs when becoming an AFOL?
  13. I did the same: Amazon.de was selling them at 82€, so I saw 2 signs that it was time to go for it.
  14. Very promising! Looking forward to seeing it finished!
  15. Very good design! The model is instantly recognizable and the inherent limitations of technic seem very well managed there: I think anyone loving Porsche should like it! The only 2 problems I can see are the choice of wheels which are much more "trucky" and the edge of the rear which seems a little too sharp – even for a classic Porsche. Other than that, congrats!
  16. Hi Nico, I sincerely praise your wish to share your knowledge and ideas in videos such as these: even if I will never get somewhere close as you in LEGO design, it makes me feel a little smarter each time!
  17. A bold choice of model, indeed! You are confronting to a legendary model here, and very complex one, on top of that. Good luck, I will eagerly follow up your progress!
  18. Having loved the Chiron, I am very tempted to take the Lambo too but always reluctant at the last minute, telling myself that the more I wait, the more this coloring problem could be solved. In fact, I am pretty sure to have the problem if I buy it, yet I do not think I would complain to the support service unless the color difference is really unbearable (if it can be seen even from far away). Here's my view on this: this set could be seen as a crash-test at LEGO: if it sells well nonetheless, they will know that they can globally lower their quality expectations about coloration without fear of a backlash. They know perfectly well how much this problem just disqualifies their "only the best is good enough" motto, but they also know very well how consumers are far less serious on product quality than they believe themselves to be.
  19. Very nice work, even if I think the model would gain a lot if the spoiler could be higher... In some angles, it seems as if there were not any! But everything else seems really well done, kudos!
  20. Like many, I have started with sorting by color. But with time, I have switched to sort by group for Technic (steering/gearing, beams, connectors, axles, panels, bushes, etc.) and by shape for System. Indeed, I find it much easier to find a part in a box full of "same type" but with different colors than the opposite way. I guess my brain is much quicker at targeting a color than a shape, so it is best to have the color be my main visual filter to identify the exact part I need. But maybe this is the opposite for other people? Globally, my experience shows that "color first" eases the sorting your parts, and "type first" eases finding your parts. And since I prefer losing time while sorting (I do it quietly while watching TV shows or listening to podcasts) and be faster at finding to have a more fluid build process, I tend to sort by type first. And if I have to sub-sort a specific type, then I make color groups with a maximum contrast within them (a black&white one, a red/blue one, etc.) to maximize the finding speed.
  21. I sooo freakin' love it! It somewhat reminds me of this MOC, but on a much higher level of motricity. Kudos for the devilish idea!
  22. I posted my request a little fast, because it only needs a quick examination to all the changes made to understand that one should clearly re-build the whole thing over again: it lowers dramatically the risk of errors, and allows the pleasure to re-descover the set's build process with the enhancements. Following this idea, I have disassembled my Chiron since then, to build an alternate model (this one, which is insanely great in my opinion). I have the "pimp" parts safe in a bag, quietly waiting for the day I will decide to re-build the Chiron. Thanks for your advice nonetheless!
  23. And honestly, creating a free 10GB account at BrickSafe is so easy... Seriously, I cannot understand why this site is not used more often for non-Lego-related content ! 🤔
  24. I also picked up the motorized version, because TLG already have good static supercars but no motorized ones. This model's static version, even if it is extremely well done, is more "redundant" than the RC version, which is a perfect opportunity to dive into the motorized world with confidence (MOCs are not always ideal on this side) : its qualities has been confirmed by many users here and its price tag makes it even better.
  25. My very first set, got it at 4 years old in 1984: And my first Technic set, got it at 9 years old in 1989: Ahhh, memories... ^^
