I agree about the ground in the first picture. Otherwise that technique works well, but maybe a little tighter?? Either way, both are great little builds. I love the second the most though. Great ground work. Great curvature of the hill. I need to get to practicing my hill formation. That is perfect.

That's the thing. A lot of people only need new printing with existing pieces, yet I doubt they will be made. I love LOTR, but I've never read the books so I have no idea who this person is. Even though I said that, I'd still love this figure in my collection. The more Elves the better. But only time will tell.

This is a good idea. Castle era needs more ships since not everyone was on land. One thing I liked about the early Black Knight Sea Serpent! Granted, a slightly different scale than these. But with that said, a lot of people might not be aware of ships being used during all of these times and only think of ships linked to the Piracy era thanks to the attention (and lack thereof) given. I know as a child I never really connected castles with ships as much as pirates with ships, even though ships have been around for quite some time (obviously). I have a few ships underworks, but none medieval related. I should look into tooling one for some faction. Maybe an updated Sea Serpent. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love it. The foliage is great. The ground is covered and as overgrown as it looks, it actually isn't too much. I think it makes the area blend very well. And the rockwork adds some depth to everything. Everyone loves the curved wedges as rockwork. I don't love them, but they seem to work here. Keep up the good work.

[MOC] Triumph of the Red Knight or The Black Knight's Demise
TheLegoDr replied to Digger1221's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'll agree with others here about the arm technique. Very clever use and helps sell the scene. Keep up the good work. -
After looking at all of them on brickset, I decided on these: 1. kimono girl 2. butcher 3. clockwork robot 4. sleepyhead 5. chicken suit guy As funny as it is, I don't have multiples of any of these and all of the "army builders" that I have hordes of did not make this list. That is interesting. I base the actual minifigure sets according to the sheet in each individual packet. It shows the 16, therefore leaving off Mr. Gold, Tin Soldier, and GB figs. (I didn't get any of the GB figs, so I assume they have their own sheet also?) But with that said, I left off Tin Soldier, otherwise he would have been in my top five.

No backwards compatibility? And you potentially get locked out after 2 days of non-use? No thank you. I play video games about once a month anymore due to time, so this wouldn't be for me. But if I was still single, I may consider it. But since I'm getting my Sega Genesis from my parents this weekend and my wife bought me some new Sega games, I think I will stick with that for now. Classic consoles FTW!

Production of Lego "speckle" colours?
TheLegoDr replied to LiamM32's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's neat. So none of them are identical? I don't have a lot of the speckled pieces since I passed on those themes, so I can't witness this myself at home. But that'd be cool to have a mass produced unique item without the actual scarcity of a unique item. -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
TheLegoDr replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I concur. Some of the 3rd party vendors aren't perfect. I have yet to be satisfied with any of them. They either don't fit appropriately, or their coloring is different enough from the standard LEGO color that it clashes. So I quit buying from 3rd party vendors. As far as BTTF, why wouldn't they do something similar to the Nick Fury car in the latest Spider-man set. It has wheels that rotate up flawlessly using existing pieces. It's actually quite clever. As far as the rest of the Delorean I don't really recall how it would look from memory. It has been quite some time since I've seen it. But even with that said, I will still go out and buy the CUUSOO set when it is released. Here's hoping for a good price! -
Tolkien - I would actually go with option 2 mostly because the Elves are awesome. As great s the Black Gate looks, I wouldn't want to pass up on Arwen or Lord Elrond. Plus, since you have the other Hobbit sets, this completes it with 2 more Elves. 8Brick Mario - I don't own the Town Hall, but I do like the Pet Shop. I originally only bought it because I wanted to "collect them all," but I ended up really liking it after I built it. It has some neat features and the finished product looks great on my shelf. The elevated townhouse and the curves stairs are interesting features. I think the downside (but also the impressive side) to the Town Hall is the height. It may be hard to display for a lot of people. But the dark orange color is awesome and the elevator seems neat. If price really isn't a concern and you don't want them all, I would probably go Town Hall. Go big or go home. But if you want all eventually, go for Pet Shop. You might be pleasantly surprised. RaincloudDustbin - It sounds like you answered your own question. You say you don't have these other sets, but won't be able to buy Arkham for quite some time. To me, that sounds like you should go for Arkham. The wording comes off as disappointment if you don't have Arkham. Plus, it has a lot of great figures in it. I don't have the set, so I can't attest to the build, but the end product seems to look good. I glanced at it briefly at the LEGO store last month, but don't recall specifics. As far as the other Super Hero sets, the batmobile was decent, especially compared to the previous version, but since you already have Two-Face, there isn't a lot of draw for that set. I didn't buy the Batwing or Batcave (no interest), so I can't sway your opinion there but I haven't heard too many off-the-chart wonderful things about them. Doc Ock Ambush was cool for a new Spider-man, but unless you like the cartoon, the Doc Ock is a bit of a put-off and I didn't know who Iron Fist was. And Hulk's Helicarrier set is great for the big version of Hulk, but I didn't care for the build otherwise. It didn't really portray the movie too well and Hulk wouldn't even be able to fit into his own glass cage. Hope some of that helps!

TUTORIAL Posting deeplinked pictures from the NEW Flickr
TheLegoDr replied to Fugazi's topic in Forum Information and Help
Thank you for the updated tutorial. It doesn't seem much different from the original way. I didn't realize there was a problem with the new flickr. Thanks anyway! It will definitely be useful. -
I have no intention in quitting, but there comes a point where some sets cost too much or there are too many high dollar sets to collect. So I'm just hoping the winter village sets stay at reasonable prices. I love for the theme to continue though.

I love the idea of the Guilds. I would love to participate more, but I don't have a ton of LEGO time so I haven't been able to do what I wanted to do originally. But I will definitely keep an eye on things from time to time. A lot of great MOCs/stories coming out of here, so it is always worth a look.

Looking at Bossk, I'd say he is olive green/dark tan mixture. So I could see them remaking him in olive green, but I'd prefer his suit to be regular tan instead of yellow, or maybe the new light yellow seen in some of the Friends' sets. Basing on this picture . I just recently bought the latest Slave 1 because I wanted a Bossk figure, so I hope they don't remake him too soon. I'd love a new/improved version of him, but then I'll feel like I wasted the money. I guess I could always sell the set too.

I had no idea the new pilot Luke was so different from the previous version. Sneaky TLG.
-
Great little build. I really like the groundwork and the texturing/layering. It helps break up the monotony of a flat ground.
-
Great MOC. The transparent plate for the windows is a clever idea. They have more uses than people think. Too bad it didn't come in more sets.
-
Nice build. Good use of BURPs. It helps add height to this MOC that it definitely needs to help the "realism." Good head usage too! Keep up the great work.
-
I agree. With all of the great exclusives LEGO offers, I'd love to see these winter village sets more affordable. I think the Cottage was the highest price they should go with, but I definitely want it cheaper than that. Being a holiday exclusive, you'd think they'd want that sweet price point to capture as many people as they can.
-
That looks really neat. I will not be attempting this because the curves that are printed on work for me. But it is interesting to see it in person though. I don't love the other versions out there either. This looks much smoother, but as you stated really thin on the inside. So maybe that is why the others are produced that way. Keep up the good work. I'd like to see it on some more figures.

If you don't want to wait for a sale, I would choose option 1 either way. The sale being a good idea for Black Gate OR the Pirate Ship Ambush. I don't think the ship is worth that much to me, so I will wait on a sale for that one for sure. But the Black Gate is actually good price for what you get. Plus, option 1 gives a lot of great new figures. Six new figures compared to five. And two of the six are Elves. As much as I love the dead soldiers, they won't hold a candle to Arwen.

Thanks for the update. I've heard rumors for all three of those, probably from you at various times. But it is nice to see confirmed price points. I can only assume what they will cost in USA, but all three will probably look great, but hard to acquire at that price point. Winter Village set is a must buy. If Sydney Opera House has the same lifespan as the Tower Bridge, then I will pick it up, but definitely wait on it.
-
The groundwork may look a bit square, but I think incorporating some 1x1 or 2x2 round plates would help change the shape. The rock-work is nicely done. Keep up the good work! I'd like to see more.

I agree with many here. I don't see it hurting LEGO at all, let alone anytime in the near future. Essentially you need the same color dyes to match LEGO bricks already. Plus, as stated TLG can buy/sell in bulk so they make up their costs and then some. For one person to make a single part or set, they won't have that luxury, so it will add up for the individual consumer. To use book printing in the same way, from what I've read about LOTR, it is ONE book divided into three books because it was cheaper to print it that way. Plus they were able to make more money by doing that also. But it technically is one book. What that has to do with this is simple: To sell a book in separate parts is cheaper for them in the long run because they can spread everything out. For me to make one dark blue arch isn't very cost effective and I might as well buy the piece from a seller. I don't fully understand how 3D printing works since they can somehow create food and organs and anything really. But I'm sure it will create issues for toy companies eventually, but I think only slightly, if at all.

Well, I don't have the Palace Cinema, but I love my Haunted House. I have 3 Modulars and love all three of them (FB, PS, GE) so I will definitely get the Palace Cinema, but I would not pass up on the HH. I loved the Monster Fighter line though. I didn't get the castle in favor of the HH and I don't regret it at all. You get a large scale build in a rare color with some exclusive figures. I think the main question is: Do you plan on displaying, playing, or MOCing with the pieces? I originally bought the HH to MOC the Green Grocer, but ended up building it instead. I instantly fell in love. And it looks great on a shelf as a display piece. And my daughter loves opening it up to play inside, unlike the Modulars that are harder to include play value. Either way you won't be disappointed I'm sure, but my vote goes for the HH.
