  1. Good execution. The road is simple, but effective. The fire is very clever with the cheese slopes. The trees look good too.
  2. Interesting concept. Good execution. That definitely would be an endurance race for sure, especially through sand. Keep up the great work!
  3. I hear non-FOLs ask about certain sets all the time, my mom included. She will look for sets and come back story handed even though the set may be there. It is good to be an informed consumer, but how much do they really care? As for kids, I haven't heard anything funny lately, but I haven't been in a toy aisle for a little while.
  4. Brilliant. Very fitting for a sandy region. I love that the sand overtook the place. The globe piece is smartly used. I didn't even realize at first, so it is seamless. Keep up the great work.
  5. That looks great. It does look very blue actually. But the building looks great compared to the source material. I rewatched Fellowship last night, I really would like to try my hand at this. I just will never take the time. Good thing I can do it vicariously through you. Keep up the great work!
  6. That's true, but I think TLG doesn't want multiple IPs just sitting there waiting to be produced/released if they weren't planning on doing the production at that given time when it passes review. It is very possible the Western Town wouldn't conflict with Lone Ranger at all and could come out next year when the sets aren't on the shelves, but who knows what other sets will pass review between those times. I honestly think it was bad timing by the creator. It was right after the Western contest, so there was good buzz, but no one knew Lone Ranger was coming out (or did they?). I bet, if it was put on CUUSOO now, so it would pass the 10k mark after Lone Ranger isn't on the shelves, things may be a little different. Granted, it may be a running license agreement that they can't have any conflicting themes for x number of years or something. I'd think TLG would want to keep their contract with them since it would be such a huge supporter/outlet for their product. As far as Portal, they said it still isn't a pass or fail. They were still doing research, which is odd since it is past the review date. Wasn't that the point of the review date? So the main speculation could be they are delaying it, so it can pass the "next" review. Instead of having multiple sets pass at the same review period. The only reason I could think of is the planning/design stage and then packaging to get produced. That may clog the system with multiple CUUSOO builds plus the regular themes.
  7. Thanks for the tips. I did contact customer service via e-mail first. If I don't get the proper answer, I will then call them. I wouldn't have thought about doing that. But I can understand what you are saying. A stock can dwindle down quickly or slowly depending on a lot of factors. I can understand why the Fire Brigade wouldn't be coming back though, that's been out a while. The sets I want aren't as old as that and they are exclusives, so that may help delay the EOL, but I thought I would ask them anyway. I wouldn't say I'm super friendly with the people at my "local (3 hours away)" LEGO store, but I should ask the next time I am in anyway. Thanks for the tip.
  8. Looks good. Very fitting for the original, but with some updated features/colors. I loved the original set as a kid, so I couldn't think about changing it. Even though I'd never use black trees for everyday forest life with my MOCs now, there is something about the black trees that I wouldn't want to change that on the original. Odd, I know. Keep up the good work. You should recreate other classic castle sets for fun. Ever since I saw that contest for it, I've been wanting to do it. I just never have got around to it.
  9. 2x2 dark tan tiles...I should book a flight to OH! Great haul! I usually tally up the piece total and see how much it cost me per piece, usually less than $0.02 each, which is amazing. I haven't taken the time to actually see how much it would cost me on bricklink. I should do that next time.
  10. It was comical. I wouldn't say I laughed out loud repeatedly, but it was quite funny. I like the nods to fans of LEGO. The Batman line was clever. Although I would have said, "I only work in black, sometimes in very, very dark gray. And once in light gray with blue, but that was for a special occasion." Or something.. just to throw in all of the different colored suits he has worn. As much as I'd like to see some tie-ins, I don't see it happening just because of the number of themes involved. Although, I'm sure some of them could become CMFs in the future. I'd love to have an Abe Lincoln figure. Everyone was calling the Revolutionary Soldier George Washington anyway.. Although for notable figures, I would expect a Ben Franklin before some of these people. He could come with a kite and/or a key... I guess we'll wait and see for a press release stating if any new sets come out because of it.
  11. The community builds are fun. It's neat seeing all these different creations, even the MOCs that are of the same scene or concept, but with different builders it can look completely different. How about rewriting SW history...as in, what if Anakin was never corrupted, how different would Episode IV-VI turn out? Or if Qui-Gon didn't train young Anni, would the universe be peaceful, or would someone else take over? Kind of neat to speculate, granted it would be harder to build within a community if it wasn't agreeable terms. Edit: I like the idea of only using pieces from a certain set to build something. The downside is not everyone would have those exact sets.
  12. Congratulations. Someone posted this on facebook the other day and tagged me in it. I had no idea what a LHC even was, let alone what the LEGO model was supposed to be. It was at around 5,600 votes at that time and now it hit 10k, so good job on the speed reaching that. I recall reading the article and the creator said it cost them about $100 and used about 560 bricks.... that sounds plausible for most AFOLs.. Non-AFOLs already think LEGO is expensive, so that isn't helping anything. At that point, it isn't feasible. I'm sure if it passes, it will get a redesign and be more affordable for the niche fan, but I don't see "10k" people picking this up.
  13. That's awesome. Not only is the build fantastic, but the purpose of the build is great. The room itself is well done. I like the smooth walls with the dark tan brick bricks. Keep up the great work!!
  14. I didn't read that article, but I did see a different article lately regarding it and the builder stated it cost them $100 to build it at ~560 pieces...not exactly an easy feat to sell in a limited run for CUUSOO. I don't think most people would want to spend $100 on it, even if it did reach 10k votes.
  15. Upon a search, the only one I found that was relevant didn't list any sets being discontinued and was from 2010, I think. So not particularly useful here. My question is, other than the official page of "retiring soon" sets, is there any indication to when sets will be discontinued? Do they put all of the sets on that retiring soon page now? There are certain sets I want that have been out for a while and people always say they expect it to be retired at this time, but is there any fact to the statement or just speculation? My main concerns are the VW Camper Van released end of September 2011 and the Sopwith Camel released June 2012. My speculation would assume the Camper Van will be going away sooner since it has been out longer, but I don't know anything officially. The Fire Brigade and Death Star have been around significantly longer than a lot of sets, so I'm not sure where to put my thoughts. If anyone has information regarding those sets, then I'd be much appreciative. Also, in the original post that I found in 2010, the plan was to list the sets that will be discontinued, but that is what I assume the "retiring soon" page is for. Thanks in advance!!
  16. Thanks for sharing. This is a great addition to the official set. As much as I want the set, I will definitely have to mod it to something similar to this. You've done well here. I don't like the privilege room, but I think I'd be a strict warden. The hidden room is brilliant and very well done. And I really like the lab with Bane. Very fitting for that version.
  17. Looks great. Yet another fun and interesting build. I like this tourism idea. I really like the mushroom plants. The rockwork looks good. The trees are large and impressive. The animals are a nice touch. Keep up the great work everybody.
  18. Looking good. I know very little about Roman history or architecture. But this looks great. I love the size of your army too. I ended up buying way too many of the Roman commanders. I should try selling them probably.
  19. Just ordered the complete LOTR 2013 line. I can't wait! To add an addendum: I ordered late last night, around midnight, and they shipped today. Now that's service!
  20. I wish I was into just one theme. It certainly can be problematic trying to afford everything. Space is not a problem at my house, but all of the sets I want would break me. Even as a child, my main interests were pirates and castle, but I did have a lot of space and town back then. After my Dark Ages, I was only into Harry Potter (it's what brought me out), but then I fell in love with Kingdoms. I was too late for Pirates theme, but I still love them, so of course I had to pick up all of the POTC sets. I've been getting all of the Modulars and winter village, even though nothing else city related interests me. Naturally I slowly delved into Star Wars, but that is mostly on the back burner with all of these other great themes. LOTR/Hobbit takes priority, but Super Heroes is next in line. And I've been into all of the exclusives TLG keeps putting out, like the Tower Bridge and VW Van and the like. Because of all this, I missed out on the Dino theme, even though those dinos looked awesome. It is simply too costly. But it's great. Even with all of the issues, it brings me back to my childhood everytime I play, er, build with them.
  21. I think overall the ship looks good. But I have to be honest, I know very little about medieval ships and how they should look. Otherwise I would try my hand at one. I love building ships...when I don't have a dozen other projects lined up before them.
  22. Simply amazing. I am impressed. I love the scale and all of the details. The angles used for the wall work well. I like the inner-workings also. I like how the stairs go up to a courtyard of stone and then I love the other wooden stairs going up to the tower in the back. I don't know how authentic it is, but I can easily picture a real castle structure like this. Congrats on being nominated. Certainly makes sense. I started following this so I can go back to it often. Keep up the great work!
  23. I would have to agree that the yeti's headpiece is only one molded piece. I can't see a line indicating there is a separation there. But since I don't know officially, I will say I'm 99.9% sure it is a single piece. I would say the evil mech is definitely a head and a helmet since it looks seemingly identical to the most reason mech. Which is interesting since the Galaxy Squad mechs are all molded heads, even the one that looks like it would resemble the CMF mech. I think that welder will actually be a sleeper hit.
  24. Brilliant. I agree about how neat the mushrooms look. And, the base is quite eye catching. I like the whole scene with the gentleman rowing. In fact, I love the subtlety of the water rippling from the oars and in front of the boat. Brilliant indeed. Another great MOC knocked out.
  25. The birds are perfect. I like the idea of brick build animals, if done correctly. These look great. That red-bellied strutter is fantastic. The blue one looks good too. Heck, all of them look good. I am surprised so many birds would congregate in one small area on the mountain though. It's nice to see them getting along so well. Keep up the good work. These post-card tours are interesting to see.
