  1. I originally purchased the Haunted House for the same purpose, but after building it, I can say I'd rather have the Haunted House together and come up with something for the GG.
  2. Personally I'd love to see a hospital of some kind. The downside is it might be hard to pull off with the standard 32 wide scale. Otherwise a restaurant would be welcome.
  3. Since I haven't found series 10 around me yet, I ordered some from S@H. Out of the 14 I ordered (I would assume random picking from the factory/warehouse), I received 9/16 of the set. So not too bad considering. However, I didn't get the main figures I wanted, so that was disappointing. I did receive 3 sad clowns and 2 grandpas and 2 paintballers and an extra tomahawk warrior rounding out the 14. I received Medusa, Paintballer, Librarian, Grandpa, Sad clown, Tomahawk warrior, baseball player, painter, and skydiver. The figuers I wanted the most were Roman, Revolutionary Soldier, Bumblebee girl, and Amazon warrior. I would gladly take a Mr. Gold, but I wasn't seeking him originally. I just found the numbers interesting. My daughter did really like Medusa and the painter, so I will have to try to find extra copies for myself since she has those in her collection now. I thought I would be nice and give her first dibs. I was actually not as impressed with the Tomahawk warrior as I had hoped to be. I did get 2, as I originally wanted to do a small army build of him, but I'm not too impressed unfortunately. I wonder if my initial thoughts will change with the other figures once I have them in my hand.
  4. I received a Chima set too. I assumed they were sending them out to get people interested. Not everyone is commenting that they received one, so maybe they didn't send them out to everyone?? I would have thought they would. But then again, not everyone received the VIP keychain either.
  5. That is a huge purchase. As iconic as the Star is, I've never considered buying it, mostly for price alone. But since I am a minifigure collector (and builder) I don't want that pile of older figures. I love the new style and printing. So let's say you remove all of the figures, the set itself looks quite nice. A lot of great details here and there. My main problem is I didn't see SW until the PT (I'm 29, mind you), so I never had a huge interest in it. None of my friends did either, so I never considered watching them. With that said, I don't have the same affinity to SW sets as others. It sounds like you do/did, so I'm glad you made the purchase. You will be most pleased with it. Have fun!
  6. I haven't disassembled that, but I recall when I was building it to think it was a bit odd. I was contemplating selling my copy, so I would have to disassemble it for shipping. Grr.
  7. I think the price did hurt sales. The ship itself looks really nice, although I know nothing of the B-Wing. But at 50% off it was a good intro to the UCS line. I could picture myself wanting to get into some of them. That new X-Wing looks beautiful, so I may bite on that sometime. I doubt it will ever get a decent discount, but still a nice option. But by offering that sale, I think a lot of people probably bought it to sell later which seems foolish. If TLG can't move the product, why could a re-seller? But also by offering that sale, it gave many people a chance to pick one up if they were only hesitant about it to begin with. I had zero interest, but when I figured it would be foolish not to buy one at 50% off, I bit the bullet and am now a UCS fan.
  8. I thought I read you had to order 5 of CMF 10 to get that poster. That poster has some errors. A few people added/missing. Pretty poor job by the creator. But then you should also get the Yoda poster. I didn't see any numbering on this one. Last year's Artoo poster had numbers xx/xx I thought. I also received a Chima set. They must have sent it to everyone?? It's a good idea to get people interested in it. They are really selling that Chima idea to people. I think the number of sets alone this year was unheard of. I haven't opened mine yet, but I wanted to pick one up for my daughter anyway. This just saves me $20 or so.
  9. I agree. I think a major problem is the fact they were brightly colored. Obviously brighter colors can attract more children to a theme, whereas LOTR is using more Earthy tones and realistic cues from nature. That isn't to say the target audience wouldn't appreciate that. I'm sure LOTR/Hobbit are selling just fine with them as well. I basically entered my dark ages right as Dungeon (Dragon) Masters was getting started, so I missed everything until Kingdoms. With that said, I would love some more variety in coloring. A new Eagle would be great though. I love the new Amazon warrior in the CMF series 10. She looks great, but her shield is amazing. Amazon (amazing)...weird. Anyway, great story here. I'd love to see it come to fruition.
  10. It would be a pity not to show it at shows. He did say it was divided into sections. Hopefully that makes storage/moving it a lot easier. I'd hate to see it collapse. The walls are brilliant. I am amazed at the curve and had no idea that you would be able to achieve that. But it makes sense since each is so subtle that it adds up with these larger MOCs, of which I never have attempted. The size of the castle is impressive. The money going into the project is impressive. The size of the army is impressive. All of these things together = mind blown! I have 3 of that set. You have 55! Haha, amazing. I will definitely be following this as well. I can't wait to see the final completion. It will be jaw dropping. Thanks for sharing this with us!
  11. Come to think of it, I haven't seen that set in a long time. I'm glad I bought it right when it came out. In fact the only set I've seen around me is Helm's Deep at full retail. None of the other LOTR sets are even out near me. And only a few Hobbit sets are out. That's odd. I guess I haven't thought much about it since I had the sets already, but hmm. I guess this is all the more reason for me to pick up the next wave early instead of waiting. You never know with LEGO. Sometimes they are plentiful a year later and others are "retired" way too early.
  12. Spot on to the source material! I love seeing real life buildings translated into LEGO form. And you did a splendid job there. Is this going in a layout of yours??
  13. Great little MOC. The arches look great. The whole scene looks ruined, so spot-on there. I also really like how you made it look like he was sitting on the edge with his legs hanging down. Very clever.
  14. Clever build! I love seeing mini-scale, especially castle themed. Is that a sand blue plate on the tower wall? I've never seen one before, but then again I haven't looked. I like the inclusion of the ships too. Keep up the great work!
  15. Nice build! I would love to see it in real bricks. I like the shelves/drawers inside. I also like the beams on the outside of the upper floor coming out underneath the upper floor. I also like the flag post out front. Simple, but effective. The ground texturing is nice, but I think maybe throw in some dark blue gray for stones. Otherwise, great build. Keep up the good work.
  16. Nice ground texturing. I like the overall build, but that building is mighty small. Hope they can make enough money to upgrade in the future. Happy building!
  17. Since I am just getting in on this conversation now, I missed a lot of good debate. But I bought a B-wing only because of the price and I'm not that big of a SW collector. I like some of the sets/ships, but I mostly prefer the figures. But at that price, I bought one thinking it might be a good intro to the UCS line if I want to in the future. At $100 it is much more do-able instead of at $200. I think the $200 hurt the sales, so they had a lot of product to move. As stated, I'm not a huge SW fan, but that new X-Wing looks amazing and I'd be willing to pick that up now. Even though I had no interest in UCS before. So LEGO just got themselves a new collector/fan that normally wouldn't have due to the price. I highly doubt too many more UCS will ever have that type of discount. I think it was only because it was a B-Wing. Granted, yes there were sales of some of those other iconic sets that are huge now. But I don't see the B-Wing being worth a ton of money and I didn't buy one to sell. I can imagine a lot of people did. Their choice. I do think TLG did the smart move by releasing a new X-Wing instead of another lesser known ship in a row.
  18. Like everyone else, loving the wheelchair. I almost think it looks better in translucent pieces only to hide some of the bulk LEGO bricks can give to small builds. The plastic prison is a great idea. I love the line of Super Hero inspired builds of yours. The only difference I could imagine, I picture Erik with more tuft to his hair instead of the gentleman's hair. I'm thinking the piece from Knight Bus or Palpatine's Arrest. Keep up the great work!
  19. It must have been this thread in my sub-conscious creating dreams for me. I had a dream last night that I was in some store (I think Wal-Mart) and they had this random display stand of old sets and tons of discounted sets, and sets that don't exist other than in my mind. But everything was really low prices. It was awesome. There was the new Sopwith Camel out of the box, they had TMNT sets of individual figures. It was really weird. But fun nonetheless. As far as official sets in stores...I've seen some Toy Story sets at TRU one time long after the license was over. But other than that, I don't recall. I'm sure there were some good deals sometime in the past, but I never paid attention to LEGO until the last few years.
  20. That's probably a good idea. Just have random bricks they can play with that you don't have any use for. I should dig some of mine out for that. I bought one of those 1600 piece sets for Black Friday a few years ago. I have hardly opened it, so I'm glad I gave one away to another customer there since they looked distraught for not finding one. I didn't need two and it is even more obvious now. As far as my daughter, she is getting a lot better about breaking sets. But she has one of her newer friends who is not used to LEGO come over more now. She doesn't have the same dexterity as my daughter, but she also doesn't understand not to touch certain sets. Time will help this of course. One thing I don't understand is people finding teeth marks. I realize young people put things in their mouth, but I guess I never had the desire/curiosity to bite one of my LEGO bricks. And so far I haven't seen my daughter do it, so that's good. She's only 3, so..
  21. I think someone should sticky a comment for new/all members to see. This debate does come up quite often and instead of the moderators and other members continually having to explain everything multiple times, maybe one post that explains it all should be stickied. I agree, it does suck incredibly. No sympathy for me since I'm in the States, but I can understand the frustration. As much as I love LEGO, if I lived anywhere else and had to pay more, I would more than likely not buy LEGO or buy significantly less. But that's just me. With the numbers LEGO puts up, one person won't be missed. Since LEGO is affordable here, I end up buying a lot more than I need I would imagine. But LEGO can offer these prices for us and it works in their favor. I think I read somewhere that technically instead of lowering pricing everywhere, they would more than likely increase prices here to make up for it. As far as doing it as a side business, that is a good idea. The whole drop ship idea sounds good, but at the same time I would think something sketchy to be linked to it. I wouldn't say it is fraudulent necessarily, but it doesn't seem legit. Although, the person probably should be classified as a business for it. Just think all of the VIP points you could accumulate, plus the extra money for your troubles...that is tempting. Although I would say Eastern Coast is probably the best place to do it instead of in the middle of the country like where I am.
  22. The scale alone is impressive! Then you add in all of the details and "life" poses. Very impressive. I can't believe my eyes seeing those large scale armies of redcoats! I was happy with my 12 new redcoats haha. That does make me want to get back into MOCing my ships. I had a few started, but then got derailed to another project.
  23. That is a lot of back-stock. No wonder they only have one box of series 10. I've never seen them that cheap anywhere before, especially at TRU. It is always above $3.00 here. The downside is series 10 has multiple army builders for me, and series 9 had none. So even seeing back stock like that doesn't entice me.
  24. That is an amazing MOC. The size is impressive, but so are all of the details. But I will say, my favorite part about this is the roof. The angles are great, but I love the use of color (I love dark tan) and the inclusion of the plates/tiles scattered about. It adds a lot more depth than one would think. Keep up the great work.
  25. The room looks great. Nice, clean lines. Rich, dark woods. Very formal looking. The shelves look to be the right size for what you are displaying. I should figure out how I want to do my LEGO room, even though it will be years before we do anything about it. We have a lot of other rooms to renovate first. Thanks for sharing.
