looking good. have you done any float and ice tests? -
MOCs versus sets
Aurorasaurus replied to PlopiNinetySix's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
the zetros feels what moc-like to me because all the axles are linked and i think the motors are hard coupled, and the diff lock. while it isnt perfect, i think they did what they could given the limitation of making something that doesnt damage parts. -

cool idea. is it gonna make small talk with people? -
Spinning helicopter
Aurorasaurus replied to Diamabolo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
wait thats AWESOME. when I read the title i had a silly idea: helicopter attached to a base. the rotors and base are stationary while the entire helicopter body spins. i love your design, really clever -
I just had a look at their products. they seem to only have the old standard rear wheel hub. im aware that because of its reduced profile it would be easier to build a structure around it so ir could be used like a front hub. but it also only accepts the old small cv joint, which have a habit of breaking under high load. if metal ones of those were available it would be a viable option, but currently i cant see it as one. thank you for bringing those to my attention though, they could be very useful in the future

Two of my 42160 wheel hubs developed irregular patterns when spinning, some parts of the rotation felt rough on one, and the other simply had high friction. i chose to try opening one. simply pulling it apart with pliers did not work, so i used a dremel instead and carefully enough cut enough space to use a screwdriver to seperate the two halves of the black part of the hub. the internals seem to come pre lubricated, and i couldnt find any dirt inside that could have been causing the issues. with that said, i was less than scientific with my method of opening it, so its certainly possible any unwanted dirt inside simply came out once i opened it.

Technic General Discussion
Aurorasaurus replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
im glad hes made a patreon, hopefully it means his channel can continue. im already supporting him, hopefully enough people do that he can review the big sets. -
id love to see a return to sets like the green le mans racer, 42069, 42077, 9398. even 42099 was good in my mind, as these sets were all sets that had one thing they were built for, and did it well. they were all very playable. i think the new audi also excels at this, as not only is it fairly playable, its a fantastic starter set for anyone wanting to get into the hobby. i wish they would do a series of rc vehicles though, like 4 trophy trucks, 4 rally cars, or something like that. and please take the gearboxes out of the 1:8 cars.

1/8th Ford Probe
Aurorasaurus replied to 930 Turbo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
perhaps this piece of advice may prove harmful, but for me i find the most difficult part of the building process is the bodywork, so you could start with that, then do the chassis and stuff underneath it, making it all work. this might help you if the technical aspects are not challenging to you, but the bodywork design is/the fear of not finishing the bodywork makes it too difficult. -
28t clutch gears, to save us needing to use a differential and a driving ring. i designed and printed some, with good success, for a relatively small design time. only change id make is making the outer part smaller to reduce friction. https://bricksafe.com/pages/Aurorasaurus/miscellaneous video of it working and 3d file available there

General Part Discussion
Aurorasaurus replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i pulled the trigger and bought some gearbox parts. very pricey indeed. however, hopefully they'll earn their keep. im surprised nobody was selling them on bricklink though, as they could have easily fetched around 8 usd, i feel.- 5,466 replies

I may be wrong, but nothing about it actually makes it a batcycle, so I believe it has no market with batman fans. It also offers nothing technically new or any interesting pieces (from memory) so the main audience of technic fans has no reason to buy it either. I don't personally think that its target audience exists; batman fans who want a lego technic motorcycle with no interesting functions, and no display value (no stickers or anything to show its a batcycle) So yes, I would agree in thinking its been a flop.

[MOC] Beach buggy
Aurorasaurus replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Really good little build. Nice work! Very polished, I like the bodywork a lot. -
ive been building a trophy truck from the body then the chassis now, as it seems to work better for me. this one is very similar to madocas truck on the outside, the roof and sides are near identical, and the front bumper is similar as well. however, as the internals should be pretty different and the body isnt an exact 1 for 1 replica, im thinking its fine. just looking for any feedback anybody has regarding this bodywork. i do want to add a bullbar but haven't got round to it yet.
