42177 Mercedes G500 4X4
Jundis replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Would be a nice successor to the 42110, as it's now 5 years since it was introduced. Hopefully we don't get just another chassis on the same suspension, just with a updated gearbox, but also other wheels (audi wheels would be cool, but maybe look too offroadie, as most G500 are more street-stylish.... sadly. And please TLG: NOT BLACK AGAIN! -

This looks amazing! The details in every corner dwarfs the new icon-sets :-) What element did you use for the suspension arms? -

Really cool new part! Looks like even the Lego designers were fed up with coming up with partly horrible solutions for the clicking engines (looking at you, 42164). The ridge should be in normal bar size for c-clamps, I think we will see this part also in some fancy Lego System builds (wave motion for example). -

Questions for LEGO Engineers
Jundis replied to a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very interesting topic, indeed! Here is my take: Basic mechanism can be recreated in technic, so I try to stay close to the original model as much as possible. Special functions need a workaround or have to be dropped as they would become too bulky. Nowadays, 50/50 would be very fitting for my builds, but usually form follows function. The functionality itself can also be done in a ugly way or an elegant way. The credo here is, that the fewer parts, the better. This also helps stability a lot. Same as @XTN, only for deco. Most inspiration comes from observation of real life machinery or just browsing through the web for heavy or agricultural machinery. Start with the hardest part first. Maybe use different scales for building dummies of a main function. If you really hit a roadblock, don't try to force it, but built another segment. Sometimes inspiration comes in this process. Rather restart a whole assembly in another way that try to make a single part or mechanism fit in an already existing assembly. Sometimes, think about: Can the mechanism be made better with pneumatics/worm gears/linear actuators instead of the current principle? As LEGO is limited in its parts, some things are much harder to do than working with metal, where you can get any shape/size/part you want. In bricks, it's way more trial and error than specific planning. More complex builds are possible. System is for style, Technic is for function :D Start with simple 10...50€ models and try to come up with B-models to understand mechanisms. I once built the 42082 with my nephew (age 10). He had a hard time to even get, what he was building sometimes and got bored, as he didn't saw the purpose. I never understood why Lego (especially for brand models with 1000+ pieces) just don't give the space of 1 page to explain, what assembly you are building and how that assembly/mechanism looks in the real model to enhance the building experience. -

The reviewer just speculates, but in the comments a user name @andynbg seems to be pretty sure about it ;-) Original text: "Der Volvo ist ein Lkw mit Tieflader und auf dem ist der Bagger mit Pneumatik...." -

2024 Technic Sets Discussion
Jundis replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Same occured to me, he seems to have the info from the nuremberg toy fair. But as we heard from Effe, Lego shut it's doors to public viewers and only let in a decent amount of selected persons :D I asked the guy on youtube if he has more info on the 4x4 and the water vehicle. Let's see :-) But as the Volvo has been announced, the was the word "Cargo" mentioned, so a low loader seem quite plausible. I think for an excavator (or for any earth-moving vehicle) without electric driven motors, the pneumatic option is always faster and more playable in this mid-scale. -

Jundis replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Begone, offtopic-talk! Back to 2024 line-up: In a german youtube discussion of the models there is a comment saying the following (roughly translated via deepl): "The Volvo [42175] is a truck with a low loader and on it is the excavator with pneumatics... the Porsche [42176] is remote controlled and has a battery with a USB C connection. No, that's not a joke! And the lunar rover [42182] is really the one from the moon back then and is really relatively large. But it doesn't have an engine..." -

[MOC] RC-Pneumatic Backhoe
Jundis replied to 2GodBDGlory's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This thing is again packed to the max (and beyond :D)! I actually envy the speed of the pneumatic actuation you achieved with the air bottle. This was my biggest hurdle in all of the pneumatic models I've done so far. I'd wish Lego would provide us with a better pump :-/ I'd be very curious about your models, did you post them here? I always saw you as the Admin, never as the builder :D -
Very cool model @falconluan ! The use of bionicle teeth is brilliant to represent the grill. I actually like the first 7L liftarm more, as it looks more consistent. The slight angle comes from the 1/2 stud height different of the front and rear axle ;-)
