[MOC] Claas Cougar 1400
Jundis replied to Jundis's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks :-) I think such small fenders are a minor optical addition and would look weird and too bulky to replicate in lego. What model are you working on precisely (can't find it in your thread about it)? I did movable fenders on my Fortschritt tractor, but build them onto undriven axles, so it was quite easy. -
This is really detailled and I completely get your point :-) My comment wasn't meant as harsh critic, really admire the work you put in! Are you planning to do some newer models with updated wheels as @1gor suggested? This would be really cool, for example heavy duty trucks with the 81x35 for offroad purpose :-) @Milan You're right, these are sadly too wide for twin tire configurations for trucks. An exception are big Dump Trucks... :-)

Hmm I think it fits quite well, but maybe I could lower it 1 stud :-) -

Would be very cramped and way less stable... also the motor would reach into the cabin, which I wanted to avoid :-/ Yeah, the real model has 4 cylinders for each of the main armes alone... I mean it would be possible as they can all be connected to the same valve, but the horror of arranging that much hoses... als it would destroy the look completely. I don't like to use that much of system bricks like eric, although his models are very well built. I also don't care much about scale :-P -
Hi guys and gals, as for now I chancelled my MOC of a Claas Torion, I looked through current and also older Claas models to use the lime green parts for :D I found a model which instantly sparked my interest as I haven't seen this one ever before: the Claas Cougar 1400 self-propelled mower. Only 30 of these were built, so the chance is quite low to ever see one in real life, but the mechanic behind this machine is really fascinating as the 5 mowers span up to 14 meters in width. This model has been done before by @GuiliuG in 2010 with balloon tires and for its time with the available parts pretty well done, but a little to narrow for my taste and also functions cut down too much. So a new iteration is needed ;-) Last model of my John Deere as was welcomed, but I really liked the WIP threads tp see progress and also have critical input by the community. As it is an agricultural machine, tractor tires were the way to go, although I considered the dragster tires for short time. The small tractor tires seemed... too small to implement the mechanic, leaving me with 2 choices: 107 x 44: Would mean a width of about 85 cm.... seemed way to instable for me and also meant a piece count of 2000+. Maybe all functions (drive, steer, mowing AND lowerering/raising, tipping, extending.... of the mower units) could be integrated, but would mean a hell of a machine again, which I think wouldn't be so much fun and is sometimes more of a burden... remember: The sweet spot for Lego Technic models is 1000 pieces :-P. 81 x 35: Width of 81 studs (65 cm): Fewer functions could be implemented, but maybe in a sturdier and less complex manner. Instead of the 4 functions of drive, steer, mowing and (combined in 1 function) lowing/raising of all mower units, I wanted to use the battery box and only make the latter 2 function with only manual steering and push-drive. I settled for these mid-size tires, which also felt better to do :-) Starting with the geometry and chassis I realised instead of 2 motors, I could use a normal 2 gear gearbox with a selector switch, which will be actuated by the tilt of the cabin forwards/backwards. In forward/drive position, the lowering/raising function is activated, in backwards/mowing position, the mowers are moved. The black exhaust pipe will be the activation of the motor, which can be seen in the video below. For now, I have the chassis finished and the main function of tipping of the outermost mowers are done. I dropped the extenders as there were getting too big of unstable. Through the small turntables, there will be another arm, which folds down via a push-rod, which is what I am working on right now. I will need many universal joints.... Here is a pic and a short video of the basic mechanism:

Indeed all are good looking models :-) I have to admit my belly crumbles a little bit when I look closely, for example to the front axle: The 10x1 plates with pin holes are heavily bent from the weight of the vehicle. Also the two rear axles are built at least 1 stud lower that the front axle, leading to a heavy bending of the chassis (cabin is slightly angled...) or is the any suspension on the rear axles like a boogie?

Hmm images don't load...? Edit: Please resize your images to max 1024 x 1024, yours are 4000 x 3000! :D -
It is kind of interesting, but for my taste, this is one of the ugliest machinery ever created :D How well does the dump bed rise with the 2 small LAs? In the base position, you need a very high force, thats why the cylinders in the original model are nearly vertical.

@Mattallica Maybe you can use the chassis of another Monster Jam truck and build you own cab? :-) -
Very cool you started a tractor with this wheel combination :-) From my first attempts for a John Deere 8R, I use a height difference of 1.5 studs. It's a little bit unconvenient to build, but looks better than the 2 stud height difference, IMHO.

Old Tractor MOC

Really cute model :-) The fenders are always hard to do, they will come off easily with only studs fitted onto pin holes. -
Hey Jorge, really nice and clean built you have made :-) The 12L wide front of the cabin on the 13L wide chassis makes looks really good! Did you tinker around with some panel to make the cabin and the grill a little more interesting? ;-) This is the only thing for me: The front looks too bland :-/

hmm nothing on the usual reddit and insta channels. There is a list for Marvel Sets with set number and price... Lego is quiet this year -
Ah thanks! Ok, if the bracing with the 2 gear sturdy yellow gears is enough, then cool :-) I'll wait for a new ball bearing socket, I'm hope TLG will come up with them soon :-P

42160 Audi RS Q e-tron
Jundis replied to keymaker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just build this model (christmas gift from lovely GF) and I gotta say the first 2 building steps were really great. The structure is rock-solid and spring travel is good, too. I know that Lego technic loves IPs nowadays, but here the IP is completely wasted. The thing that bugs me most is the panel work in Step 3 and 4, which goes from page 88 to 193. With a generic car, this could reduced in half, making the model also a little lighter. Adding to this, without stickers, the car already looks generic :D I counted the first steps for the chassis, which needed 424 pieces. With such a good base, anything could be made on top of it that thing. Maybe I rebuild it. The included pieces are great and I love the new wheels, which give so much possibilities for construction machinery It drives okay-ish, although the physical control and heavy latency doesn't give me the feeling of driving a cool RC and fast Dakar Rally Car, but rather a slow pickup truck of some sort. I never missed the physical control so much than in this model. Lego needs this "universal controller" soo much here. -
Great progress, Igor! Can you show the internals? Also what Cada model has these new tires?

@Stev1807 See PM, please post in english ;-) -
I can't believe you didn't mention the upside of this model! The roof was made so much better than that of the 42136! Your review sums up all the problems I have with this model. If at least this thing would be compatable to play with it's tractor partner, it would be ok. But with this spout, it's a shame.
