Ah, I didn't immediately realise it was designed by @JanetVanD she is a bit of a lego celeb in the UK. Last summer she took part in a reality TV show called lego masters with her son. Not sure if it's available to watch outside the UK but they were both really good.

Wow @Digger of Bricks I almost fell off my chair. This model looks huge and must be an awesome sight to see the real thing.

A really nice selection tonight but oh wow that theatre is spectacular. I have mentioned in the modular rumors forum how I would like to see lego make a modular theatre and seeing this has really made my day. The interior is extremely detailed and at first glance doesn't even look as if it's made from lego bricks. Really awesome.

Overall I think the new summer trains look pretty nice. As I have mentioned already I would have liked them to include doors but that's only a minor complaint. My main issue is with the new passenger set. Although I think it looks pretty good, I wish it came with a rear loco instead of a single engine and 2 carriages. I don't want to have to buy 2 copies of the same set just to be able to make up a complete train. Having said this I do quite like the look of the new sets. I'm looking forward to seeing the interior of the new carriages. Hope they are a bit more detailed than the ones in the last passenger train.

Very nice indeed. Really like the interior details. Great work! How did you get your camera inside the building to take such great shots of the inside? I assume it's either a really small camera or you had to partially dismantle the building to take the shots.

Everything about this design is stunning. The pillars, window and roof details are all amazing. The icing on the cake in my opinion is the dome, I'd love to see lego include something like this in an official modular. Brilliant!

I just came across this MOC whilst looking around on EB. The Brick and Stud Tavern by @snaillad What do you guys think of this one? I think this is absolutely beautiful.

I agree with you. The old Lego doors might not be accurate to modern trains but I don't think that matters too much as there are lots of things about Lego trains that aren't accurate to real life either. Sliding train doors would be difficult to rec-create with Lego anyway. I remember growing up in the 80's seeing images like these in catalogues really used to capture my imagination... I really used to love posing my minifigs in similar ways and making it look as if they were leaning out of the doors. This was one of the big advantages I used to feel that lego trains had over Hornby and other oo gauge train sets. So I think even if the doors are not realistic, it still adds to the playability factor and makes the trains look that bit better in my opinion.

I suppose from an ethical viewpoint, Pirates vs Islanders wouldn't really be any different to kids playing Cowboys and Indians. Nobody ever bats an eyelid about that so maybe bringing back Pirates with an Islanders faction wouldn't really be so bad.

@Jasper Joppe Geers @LegoModularFan @alsielou @koalayummies @ColletArrow @danimarroquin Thanks for the kind comments guys. I guess you would need a heck of a lot of bricks but I reckon I brick built road would work very well in this style using different shapes and sizes of tiles laid out in a cobbled or brick pattern. Thanks, that's the effect I was going for with these ones. I wanted it to look like those narrow closed in streets you get in Europe where maybe only pedestrians and cyclists are allowed to go.

NEW COBBLED ROAD DESIGNS I have been busy working on some new printed road plate designs. These ones are a bit different as this time I wanted to create the effect of narrow cobbled streets, like the sort of thing we see in the UK and Europe. Let me know what you think of these. If you want to see higher quality images, you can find these on my Flickr profile.

There is also a white version of that door in the new Caravan and Truck set 60182 https://brickset.com/sets/60182-1/Pickup-Caravan It's a real wasted opportunity that these doors aren't included with the new summer train releases. Surely having opening doors on the trains would have given more playability for kids.

I love the detail around the windows on this one.

Are those doors not the same as the one featured in the City Bus station set from last summer? I mentioned this in a post a bit further up this page. They look the same to me but perhaps there are subtle differences?

[MOC] 16w Alternate Models of Modular Buildings
Bricked1980 replied to Huaojozu's topic in LEGO Town
These are really great. Neither of them look anything like the original sets that the parts were taken from. Really like the idea of 16 wide modulars. Not only do they look good from the outside but the interiors are really nice too. Your photography is also really good by the way. -
This is really cool. I like the clever use of bricks to create the dripping cheese and foliage pieces as lettuce.
-
I may be wrong but I believe that door part was re-launched last Summer with the City bus seen in my picture below... It has also been included in white in the new City Caravan and truck set. This is why I'm surprised it hasn't been used with either of the new Trains due out this summer. It seems a wasted opportunity to not have included the doors in the new trains.

Here is the article from brickset. https://brickset.com/article/34835/brickset-brixtar-alternative-challenge-winners! This is the only pic I can find of the model though. Not sure but maybe there are more pics of the interior and other sides of the building if you have the BriXtar app installed.

I've just seen this alternate rebuild of downtown diner on brickset. Apparently it came second place in a competition they were running with brixstar. Looks pretty nice.

More than anything I would just love to see lego release a new large ship. Whether or not it's part of a new pirate theme or a one off creator expert set, I don't really mind although a creator set along the lines of imperial flagship would be really great. Ships have been sorely lacking in lego over the past few years. The closest thing we've got is the ninjago movie ship but just imagine a pirate ship designed with the same attention to detail as destiny's bounty.
-
I expect the Christmas train sold well because it was part of the winter village theme. But could the fact it was also a good looking steam loco have also played a role? Steam engine's are a much more attractive topic for models or toys. They might be too old fashioned to fit in with the current version of lego city but I bet a steam train set would sell better than diesel/electric passenger and freight sets.
-
I was struggling to find these new images but have just seen them on a Youtube vid. They look great. I wasn't too interested in the Arctic sets originally but the new high res images have changed my mind.

LEGO Fan Media Days 2017 - Interview with Mikael Psiaki
Bricked1980 replied to Jim's topic in Special LEGO Themes
A really interesting and insightful interview. I really enjoyed reading this. It was interesting to read his comments about trains not being all that popular. That part caught my attention too. A Mars exploration space theme would be awesome. -
How to Design a Modular or a Non-Modular Building?
Bricked1980 replied to LegoModularFan's topic in LEGO Town
Thank you. I will have a look at Blueprint. I tried to use the built in instruction feature from LDD earlier and it spat out a 400 page manual which wasn't in a particularly logical order. I would like the option to manually fine tune the instructions but don't want to have to spend ages messing with it. So something pretty user friendly is what I'm looking for.- 93 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I agree with you that a police station would work better in an American style than European. When I think of police stations in the mid 20th century the first thing that springs to my mind is a stereotype new work cop station like we see in Hollywood movies. I think this is a much more likely direction that lego would ever take with a potential modular police station. Therefore @LegoModularFan raises a good point. It's probably unlikely lego would do a distinctive American theme 2 years in a row. So perhaps the cop station is less likely for 2019.
