Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I would have thought this too but in the video Mike says that the work on DD started in September 2016 and was completed in March 2017. That's only 7 months though which sounds like an very short amount of time to design something as complex as a modular building. -
Here are the High res copies of the pictures.

TLG's disappointing 2017 financial performance
Bricked1980 replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Personally I think Lego try to diversify too much in to other areas like Video Games, Movies, TV shows etc. Maybe they should trim back on some of these extra things and concentrate more on their core product. I don't think these problems are just unique to Lego though. I read that Hasbro and other toy companies have also been struggling recently so I think it's probably the same story across much of the toy market. And I think the main thing that Lego has going against it is the price. A lot of parents just don't have as much money available to spend on toys as they once did. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with the current crop of sets that Lego have on the shelves. There are some real great ones for sale at the moment. Problem is that if people don't have the money then they just wont be able to buy them no matter how great they are. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Last night I was watching over this video again where Mike Psiaki gives a talk about the design process behind DD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9YgzRlUsCk At around 21:18 in the video he mentions that the design work for DD was completed in March 2017. This made me think that somewhere deep within the Lego HQ the design for next years modular is quite likely already completed or close to completion. That's quite a tantalizing thought. -
I just thought this would be a good way of practicing and starting out with MOC building as it would mean I could use the bricks I've already got in my collection without having to invest in loads of new parts. Not sure if I will do this or not, but I will add it my list of Lego projects I've got planned. Thanks, I do enjoy photography and photo editing. I've been looking at Brick Explorer's Instagram, posted by @Digger of Bricks yesterday and wow, his work is stunning!

Thanks. I'd say it took about 45 minutes to create each of the snow pictures.

This guy is a genius. I must say I'm very keen on the idea of designing mocs that are rebuilds of official sets. I'm thinking of combining the parts from my creator 3in1 corner deli, toy and grocery shop and townhouse and seeing if I can come up with a decent 16 wide modular build. Dunno if there would be enough parts available from these 3 small sets and this would be my first MOC attempt so I am not setting my hopes too high.

Thanks. He is probably stranded in the snow still waiting for his car to be towed away. Thanks a lot. Yes I could do with some decent vehicles to shift all this snow. Yes I will have a look at this tomorrow. I'm still getting to grips with using Flickr.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Yes this would make sense. It would also prove that the person is legit and not just a fake imposter claiming to be a lego designer. -
Here are a couple of new pictures. These ones are inspired by the weather we've been enjoying here in the UK over the past week.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I wonder if there are any other Lego Designers with Eurobricks Accounts? Better still are there any that post comments regularly? It doesn't look as if JB has been active on here for a couple of years. -
Had to laugh when I read this article in the Sun, British newspaper... https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5724195/lego-bricks-made-sustainable-plastic-materials/ According to their headline Lego will now be making their bricks from Botanical elements including leaves, bushes and sugar cane. Just goes to show how easily the media get their facts mixed up and the journalist obviously hasn't researched the article correctly.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Just been reading through that discussion from a few years ago, that's interesting and never realised Jamie had his own EB account. -
Good idea. I've just posted a comment in the modulars discussion forum. It will be interesting to see what people think about this.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I was reading through @LegoModularFan's topic about inspirational MOC buildings https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/159039-inspirational-modular-and-non-modular-building-mocs/ It's a great topic and is updated every day with a new selection of hand picked MOCs which are really interesting to look at. Anyway one of the featured designs recently was this one. ~Schrippenkneter's Bakery by @FiliusRucilo The first thing I noticed when I saw this is that it uses a very similar snotted tile technique to downtown diner for creating the brick wall pattern on the upper floors. This pre dates DD by 2 years though. I'm not necessarily suggesting that the lego designers who created DD copied this idea at all but it did make me wonder if sometimes they do take ideas and inspiration from MOCs and amateur models they've seen online. What do you think? Do you think lego ever unofficially borrow ideas from the AFOL community and can you think of any other instances where past modulars could have been influenced by fan built MOCs? -
Yes I think a cobbled street would work well. This is definitely something I'm considering having a go at. Thanks very much. Glad you like the designs.

Thanks for the feedback guys. So it seems most people prefer the more realistic designs.

This looks pretty nice, especially the micro scale minifigs. I'm not so keen when Lego make these promo sets and the cardboard packaging is used as part of the actual build though. It's a bit like that Christmas Tree set that was released late last year. The box was used as the shape for the actual Christmas tree and this looks like a similar concept as it looks as if the box makes up the walls of the minfig factory.

Thanks a lot! Thanks! I have had a lot of fun making these. Just wondering what to do for my next project. I might have a go at doing some roads/tracks for my construction vehicles that look as if they're part of a building site with muddy tyre tracks etc. I think they do this as a marketing strategy so that they can charge extra and people have to spend more money just to get the specific plates they want. Thanks . Yes a few people have said this. Perhaps by making them too realistic they don't blend in so well with Lego. I think if anything it is the road texture I used which perhaps looks a bit too alien compared to anything Lego would ever produce themselves. I would like to know what people think about this... Do you prefer the more realistic designs or the first batch I did which were closer to the official Lego designs? If I make any more would you like to see a more simplified style or should I carry on with more of the realistic designs? Feel free to let me know.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
This is the problem, as you say it no doubt end up being very expensive. Another problem with re-releasing old sets in general is that it's great for collectors who didn't own the original but not so good for people who do have the original set, especially if the new one has better features and improvements. I wouldn't like to think that a new modular I've just invested in might be re-released in a few years with a better and improved version. -
The first thing I noticed when I looked at this one is that it uses the same snotted tile technique to create the brick wall pattern as seen on Downtown Diner. I actually think it looks more effective on this building than it does on DD though and this pre-dates DD by 2 years as well. I wonder if the Lego designers do sometimes take ideas and inspiration from looking at fan built MOCs online? It wouldn't surprise me if they do.

What Causes Lego Bricks to Deteriorate?
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've not had any problems as such with the Minifig hands going brittle, but I have got a couple of old figs where there arm sections have sort of cracked/split along the length of the arm from where the hands clip in to the socket on the arms. Not really sure why this would happen as I don't remember ever pulling the hands in and out of the arms when I was a kid. Something must have caused stress on the arm parts though for this to have happened. Maybe it was something I did whilst playing with them as a kid. It's difficult to know whether general play has caused these problems many years ago or whether it's from some deterioration that has occurred whilst they've been in storage.- 25 replies
