This is a good looking a building. There are some nice little details that really stand out to me. I like the arches running at the base of the blue building and the ladder piece covering the top half of the window on the antique store looks very effective, as do the steps leading up to the main entrance of the book store. The colours used and the overall shaping are great. Good job!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I've owned DD since January but due to other projects going on, I've only recently found time to sit down and start building the thing. I have to say I'm very impressed with some of the building techniques that Mike has included. The spiral staircase is ingenious. Also the way the curved canopy is constructed above the ground floor windows is very fun to build and much more complex than I expected it would be. My main gripe is that although DD features tonnes of clever and original building techniques, like the ones mentioned above and the recessed windows and snotted tiled walls etc, the overall finished result looks quite plain and simple when compared with other modulars. Overall I do like DD, I'm really enjoying building it and I'm glad I bought it. Think I prefer the more elegant European style of modulars though. -

How long is it likely to be before we get a decision on any of these sets? I assume it won't be until early 2019? -

Good point. That makes sense as it would seem a bit unfair to shut the site down for 12 hours when we are just days away from the next review deadline. -

Massive thanks for supporting 10,000 seems a hell of a long way off but I am definitely doing everything I can think of to try and get it there.- 65 replies

Well according to the message that appeared on Ideas yesterday, the site should have gone offline about 10 minutes ago. It hasn't though, and the message has been taken off the site too. So maybe they've changed their minds and re-scheduled whatever it was they'd had planned. -
Thomas the Tank Engine and The Lego Group
Bricked1980 replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Although Mattel own the Thomas Francise, I assume they must still licence other companies to produce toys based on Thomas. Hornby have been making Thomas OO gauge train sets in the UK for over 30 years although sadly I believe this ceased earlier this year. In the US you can get incredible HO and G scale models of the Thomas characters made by Bachmann. So maybe there is a chance that Mattel could potentially make the licence available to Lego.- 75 replies

LEGO Ideas Discussion

That's quite a while for the site to be out of action so hopefully they will be making some good improvements and ironing out some of the bugs that appeared after the last major update. There was talk about the Lego Rebrick stuff being fully integrated in to Lego Ideas from September so I bet they will be doing this during the update too. Thomas and Friends would be such an awesome franchise for potential Lego sets. I assume this couldn't happen as long as Mega Construx (MegaBlocks in the UK) are producing them though? I know we're not supposed to discuss competitor brands here but in my opinion some of the older Mega construx Thomas models weren't too bad. Recently though I bought a set for my 2 year old son and was pretty shocked to see the quality was not as good as it used to be. The old style engines seem to have been replaced with bigger and much simpler designed models made up from huge block pieces. On a similar note, what the heck have Mattel done to Thomas Wooden Railway series toys! Whilst we're on the subject of Thomas the Tank Engine, I haven't shared these on Eurobricks before but here are a couple of pics I produced a few weeks ago of my Lego Ideas project, modified with a face to resemble Trevor The Traction Engine. -

Just checking... is anyone else having problems logging in to Lego Ideas this morning? When I try to sign in on my PC I enter my username and password, but as soon as I hit enter the page just refreshes and wont sign me in. Seems to work ok on the mobile version of the site but not on my PC. EDIT: Problem is now fixed. -
Wow that must feel tremendously exiting to be this close. With 110 days left I'm sure you will get there. My project still has 8596 still to go!

How to integrate Ninjago City & Docks in a Modular town layout?
Bricked1980 replied to SwissBrick's topic in LEGO Town
@SwissBrick regardless of how you decide to integrate the ninjago buildings, just wanted to say that your city layout in the pictures looks amazing. Wish I had space for a big layout like that.- 47 replies

This is a great looking model. Have seen it on @LegoModularFans inspirational mocs topic before and it's great to see the designer has resubmitted it to Ideas. This one is also great. I'll be honest, until I saw this model I had never heard of Gravity Falls, maybe I need to watch more TV. But even though I've got no clue what it's about I still really like the model, it's amazing how fast this one is building up support.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I agree to an extent that there's not a huge amount of exiting features to include with a post office, probably not enough to fill up 3 floors of a full building. With my moc I took the approach of designing it a bit like Assembly Square. The Post Office only occupies half of the model and the rest is filled up with a chip shop, cafe and an office. I'm sure if Lego wanted to make a Post Office they could do a great job of it. Personally I can't think of a much more dull and boring place to visit than a bank, but they managed to pull that one off by adding the money laundering storyline and features. -

Fantastic! The model has got great atmosphere and I agree with an earlier comment, the trees really make it. Your photography is also very good! -

Loads of great details and features. The Castle seems to be the main focal point and looks awesome. I really like the ship as well. My eyes were instantly drawn to the coloured striped awnings on the market stalls, they really "pop" thanks to their bright colours. It all looks great, good job.

Ah yes! It looks great. You've managed to squeeze a lot of details in to a fairly small space. Good job!

Another nice model, do you have any other shots showing the interior?

Alf's Stars 'N' Stripes Grill - redesign
Bricked1980 replied to craigslegostuff's topic in LEGO Town
I like this. The roof details at the top look very good. Also like how you've used the backs of the round bricks to create texture between the 2 windows on the upper floor. -
In my opinion, Assembly Square is a great one to go for if you can afford it. It's bigger than the others and gives the appearance of 3 buildings in one, so I think it works well almost as a sort of "Modular starter set". It's also a fabulous model and one of my favourites. If you're concerned about getting one that might not be around much longer then you might be best to go for Parisian Restaurant. That's also a great model but has been around since 2014, so is probably gonna be the next one to get the chop.

It's great to hear early rumors of the next fairground set and to learn that it looks like there definitely will be one. I think the rollercoaster would always be a hard act to follow but I'm wondering how they'll approach a design for a free fall tower. A tower would work great with power functions. My slight concern is that by their very nature, these rides tend to be quite plain looking things. Personally I prefer the more elegant models like the carousel and ferris wheel. Anyway I don't want to sound negative, I'm sure Lego will pull another classic out of the bag.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Just wanted to address some rumors that have started floating around on other sites that the next modular set is going to be my MOC "Brick Square Post Office". Anyone here familiar with my MOC modulars will know that I like to present my images using similar backgrounds, camera angles etc to the official modulars. A couple of examples below. Yesterday I created a new image of the Post Office that basically looked like official Creator Expert box art but with my model photoshopped on to the box. I had made this image to share on my Instagram page. I have posted lots of pics of the Post Office on Instagram and it is pretty well known as being a MOC, so I didn't expect that anyone would think the picture was real, and it was just intended to be a new and different way of presenting the model. I realise now that it was perhaps a step too far though. It seems that some people thought the image was a leak of the next modular and it has since started to pop up on a couple of other sites. As soon as I noticed this I deleted the image from my Instagram. I apologise if anyone saw the image and thought it was real, I certainly didn't intend to trick anyone. -

That would be fantastic. To be honest it would have been a great way of celebrating classic sets as part of the 60th Anniversary this year.
