LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
icm replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
On the contrary, I think it would be easy to add Force ghosts to OT playsets. After all, LSW adds minifigures that aren't precisely germane to a scene to sets all the time. Just add Force Ghost Ben to a playset with one or two tauntauns and a wampa, or a probe droid. Or add Force Ghost Ben to a Yoda's Hut playset. Or add Force Ghost Ben, Force Ghost Yoda, and Force Ghost Ani to any Endor playset. Easy peasy. Edit - heck, you could even add Force Ghost Ben to an X-wing and it would be relevant to the specific scene depicted! -
You mean, what you'd really prefer is a full fledged return of Adventurers in which you could insert your 2023 Indiana Jones minifigs. Right?

Looks like it's not just Lego releasing a full starting grid of F1 cars next year. Hot Wheels is doing it too. I suppose this merchandising push probably originated with F1, rather than being Lego's idea. https://www.thedrive.com/news/formula-1-hot-wheels-are-coming

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

It isn't listed in the more recent post from Lego_Minecraft_Goat, so I hope it isn't a mistake. It would be nice if it was a larger spaceship to go with CS'24. -
[MOC] Update: Neo Classic Space - Naboo N-1 Starfighter
icm replied to Tom_Brick's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
That looks very good. I like the use of the Mando N-1 nose cone and the Lightyear windscreen. The studsy look and flat, blunt tail suit Classic Space. Do you think you'll put the digital file up anywhere like Bricksafe or Rebrickable? -
42182 NASA Apollo Lunar Rover
icm replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's important to remember that the set designers didn't aim for 1969 parts when they were designing the Saturn V. It was late in the design process that they noticed the parts count was very close to 1969, and at that point it was easy to make a few small adjustments to achieve the easter-egg parts count. Since the parts count of the Lunar Rover ended up at 1913 with lots of tiny little detail parts, I think it would have taken a pretty big adjustment to the build to add 59 more parts to bump it up to 1972. I don't think it would have been worth the effort if they were already at their budget. On the other hand, if they had budget left over it would have been nice to get 59 more parts for another side build or piece of equipment. -
I'd say get both, but only if you can get them without minifigs for half price each. I got the X-Jet without minifigs for $20 plus tax, and the Hoopty without minifigs for $40 overall. I was able to get the 2019 Captain Marvel and the CMF Photon minifigs for about $5 each, which gave me the Hoopty for $50 in total - still overpriced for a 420-piece set, but not egregiously so. I think they're both pretty well-designed, solid swooshy ships with big fun color windscreens and lots of room for minifigs, but they both cost over twice as much as they reasonably should.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
icm replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Xalax racers (8 pieces each) were $3 in 2001, which is $5.32 today. The little Drome pullback racers without full minifigs (~25 pieces) were $4 in 2003, which is $6.84 today. So with the CMF price point at $5 for 5-16 pieces, this sounds very much like Xalax G2. -
Ahsoka Tano's Nu-Class Attack Shuttle - 75362 + 75364 alternative
icm replied to zsoltom's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Very impressive. I'm tempted to shell out some coin for this. -
The function of GWPs is to substitute for discount sales so that Shop at Home, which isn't allowed to discount sets significantly until end-of-life, can compete with retailers like Amazon and Walmart, which regularly discount sets 20%. Although I don't like some sets being paywalled as GWPs with high thresholds, I do like to get a desirable GWP that's approximately 20% of the value of the set I'm buying. Otherwise there's little reason to buy at full price from Shop at Home.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/aston-martin-f1-safety-car-just-crashed-heavily-at-f1s-fastest-track This isn't strictly Lego news, but I think it's interesting that one of the cars featured in the 2024 Speed Champions lineup just crashed. I hope they can get it put back together again!

[CADA] CADA General Discussion Topic
icm replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ok, I've taken another look - it's not an exact copy, but it's close enough to Lego models that I wouldn't be surprised if it was copied, then altered enough to be different. The roof and rear wall of the crew cabin are very similar to those from Lego 41713 Olivia's Space Academy from 2022. Also the nose cone and the side walls of the cabin, and the angles, size, construction, and detailing of the wings, and the use of a single simple part for the tail fin. The cargo bay doors are nearly identical to those from Lego 31117 Space Shuttle Adventure from 2021. The OMS pods are different than the OMS pods on either the Friends or Creator shuttles. The model of the Hubble Space Telescope in the CADA kit is lightly modified from Lego 21312 Women of NASA from 2017. The CADA set comes with a big display stand, which is a common device used by Chinese companies to differentiate their kits from the Lego kits they are inspired by. Another Chinese company (the fourth image in this post) has copied the Creator shuttle. They gave it a great big stand and aft module to differentiate their kit, but the base shuttle is almost identical. -

It's mostly a knockoff of the 3-in-1 Lego Creator space shuttle from 2021. -

LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
icm replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The TFA sets sold like hotcakes. If you remember, Star Wars was a very hot property back in late 2015. TFA was a very successful movie at the box office and with merchandise sales. The 2015 Millennium Falcon set won several toy awards and was one of the best-sellng toys of the holiday season. From Hans Burkhard Schlomer's designer bricklist: It turned out to be the most popular LEGO set in 2016 by far, of all product lines! It also won a TOY OF THE YEAR AWARD from the American Toy Association for "best boy toy 2016". I guess the unbelievably fantastic product placement in Episode 7 helped a bit, but one year before we had no idea how much (or little) screentime the "MILF" would receive in the first Disney Star Wars movie .... -
Spaceship go sproing! I like it.
-
I used to be disappointed that there aren't any explicit throwback minifig playscale sets in the 2024 Year of Space, but I got over that. The sheer breadth and variety of Space and Space-adjacent sets in 2024 is far more than I can afford to buy, and the Artemis SLS rocket and Apollo Lunar Rover are dream-come-true sets for me. I'm going to try to get the other Space sets as they go on sale later this year, but I've been eating so good with Space this year that I don't mind the lack of, say, Classic Space, Blacktron, Ice Planet, or Space Police as throwback sets.

I think it's a reference to the Marvel superhero Daredevil, whose secret identity is a lawyer named Matt Murdoch. I'm not very familiar with the character myself, but he lives in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York and has to stop all sorts of crazy things from happening in his neighborhood. It's nothing against you personally, I guarantee that. -

I suggest you ask the mods privately if you really want to know. Otherwise, we'll all be waiting to see your Turtle Cave. Sounds like a fun MOC idea.
