  1. That's what historical perspective and an understanding of the fuller history of Lego will do for you. I've only recently learned to appreciate Mars Mission as an innovative theme on its own and not an inferior version of Life on Mars, and similarly with a lot of other themes from 2005-12, do you want a list? I'm joking. But not completely.
  2. That'll only happen if the Superman movie gets a sequel.
  3. My dad rented the Original Trilogy from the video store a lot when I was a kid. I grew up with the Prequel Trilogy in elementary and middle school. I (mostly) enjoyed going to the Disney films at Christmastime during college and early grad school. That's why I'm into Star Wars. It's not because I'm old enough to have experienced the Original Trilogy in theaters, it's because I've grown up with all the rest of the franchise.
  4. It occurs to me that it ought to be pretty simple to build an extension module for the right boom to bring back that aspect of the asymmetry of the original build. How much do you all think the right boom should be extended, four studs? Six? Eight?
  5. Don't you mean older Gen Z/younger Millennials? Anyway, that's just nostalgia for the era you grew up in. Every generation has it.
  6. If we're talking about "useful fans" repeating things from PR puff pieces and interviews, can I chime in and say that a broken clock (the puff pieces and interviews) can be right twice a day (a sincere, not bootlicking or astroturfing, fan can sometimes genuinely agree with some things said in them, sometimes)? If we're talking about glowing effects, can I chime in and say that I hope that a) you don't think the glowing effect in old product pictures of Space and Aquazone sets with trans-neon-green and trans-neon-orange windscreens was real, and b) the reason you like those striking, unusual, Spacey windscreen colors isn't because you think it makes the interiors glow, or pop, or whatever? Because if you did think either of those was so, you would be engaging in the same pattern of thought with respect to old classic sets that you criticize with regard to this new set that remakes an old classic set.
  7. I like it. That brings to four the list of fairly sizable spaceships I need to pick up next year: the City spaceship, the Technic spaceship, the new Renegade, and the Skeleton Crew ship - plus the ARC-170, but that's a starfighter and not a transport. (We'll see about the U-wing and anything else that may come up later in the year.) I like the amount of visible studs, the amount of visible yellow, the use of the girders in the central frame, the retractable landing gear, and the cluster of sensors in front of the windscreen. However, I think the designer should have kept the asymmetric lengths of the beams on either side of the frame, and I think it was a mistake to have a single large rover instead of a rover inside a storage container, because that reduces the modularity and play opportunities. I hope they continue to make these remakes of classic Space, Castle, and Pirates sets as long as they're good, not clearly half-hearted like the GWP Majisto set.
  8. I was hoping it would be cross compatible with the GWP Invader, but I'm not hugely surprised it's not. Disappointed, but not surprised. Maybe the other pictures will show it off better tomorrow.
  9. I'd start by getting a used copy of the 2017 Star Wars set Battle on Scarif without minifigs on eBay or Bricklink. It looks like a bunker entrance. Then you can build the rest of the bunker back from there.
  10. I think the post you're replying to is meant to be sarcastic.
  11. Funny thing is, people will always complain. In 2018 people complained that LSW had too many sequel sets and too many rehashes; IIRC in a Brickset poll it was one of the lowest-rated themes of the year. In retrospect 2018 was a pretty great year for the theme: the best OT X-wing, the best OT TIE fighter, a great Delta-7B at a great price, the first Yoda hut since 2004, a fresh new Hoth playset that had never been done before (medical chamber), and more. If LSW doesn't follow Lego DC's trajectory into irrelevance, people may look back on 2024 and wonder why we were complaining about all the buildable characters and all the midi-scale starships, because those were so new and different from what had been made before.
  12. I'm beginning to pick up on the DC doomerism over here in Star Wars, and I don't like it but I'm beginning to agree ... @danth has said for years that kids these days aren't as into Star Wars as we think they ought to be on these forums, and the breakdown of the 2025 line reflects that. A line top-heavy with 18+ display builds to the detriment of affordable minifig playsets is circling the drain. Edit - so those five known minifig playsets are: Ahsoka interceptor ARC-170 U-wing MTT what's the fifth one?
  13. They were going to do a Vong arc in TCW? We sure dodged a bullet with that one.
  14. I put it together this morning and put pictures of the IRL build in the first post. Still need to order a few parts in the right colors, but they're very simple, common parts so it should be really cheap.
  15. Yeah, I know :)
  16. Thanks, @Murdoch17! About the pilot - a lot of people used to use classic Rebel pilots in their BSG Vipers and in their modern fighter jets back in the day on Brickshelf, and there aren't really a lot of good options for purist custom BSG Viper pilots using parts from the eighties. So this is sort of a shrug, place holder minifig. I was able to find most of the parts for this in my bins last night so I'm going to build it this morning, with a few color substitutions, and order the remaining parts later today or tomorrow.
  17. This is a Viper Mk 1 from the classic 1978 version of Battlestar Galactica, built as if it was a retail set from 1987. I was inspired by Roestig's build on Brickshelf (https://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=243747), but I improved the proportions and details. I hope to build this IRL sometime. More pictures on Flickr. Edit - added pictures of IRL build to first post. Still need to order a few parts in the right colors but they're very simple and common parts so it should be really cheap.
  18. 60446 was just added to Lego.com for $80!
  19. I saw this notice when I logged into Bricklink today. There's not a lot of details about the changes they plan to make, except that the sign-on will be changed to a Lego account instead of a Bricklink account. I can imagine a lot of problems getting that to work right without locking anyone out of their Bricklink account, but I'm not surprised they're making this move after years of direct ownership by Lego. Has anyone heard anything about the other changes they're planning to make?
  20. Good point, the ingot pieces do seem to indicate that area should open. But if it does, why aren't there any lifestyle pictures with it open? Maybe there's no room to show off that feature on the back of the box, but the lifestyle photos don't go on the back of the box anyway.
  21. With these new pictures we can clearly see that in overall length this is just as long as any pre-1999 Space flagship. In particular, the body of the spaceship has just as much usable interior volume as the 6984 Galactic Mediator from 1994. The modularity of leaving the ground base behind and flying off with the rest of the ship is executed better than probably any other spaceship except the 6980 Galaxy Commander and maybe the 6985 Cosmic Fleet Voyager. I'm glad to see that the CMF spacewalking backpack is being used in other themes now; I hope it gets used for years to come in all sorts of Space and Space-adjacent applications. However, the use of stubby little wings to aid the modularity means the whole ship seriously lacks the sense of volume and presence that the 6984 has, with its big delta wings. That set had an inflation-adjusted RRP of $130, and this one is rumored to be lower, but I'm still worried it'll be too high. That website lists it at $86 and I was hoping for $80; meanwhile, Brick Fanatics says it's 80 GBP which is $100 USD. So I'll still have to wait for a sale on this one. Regarding the area behind the cockpit, if it's never shown open on any of the official photos that must mean it doesn't open. I bet the set designers built it hollow because they wanted to have another cargo hold or minifig cabin there, but they weren't able to make the integrated spaceship sufficiently rigid without the support of a rigid roof across that section. So they closed it up for rigidity's sake and left it hollow to keep the weight down and to let kids put stuff there anyway if they want to.
  22. Ouch. If that isn't proof positive the DC theme is dead, I don't know what is.
  23. Oh boy, another Creator castle! Looking forward to it! Edit I hope it's at least as big as the 31120 castle for that price, hopefully bigger. Since the 31120 had Black Falcons and the 10305 had Lion Knights, what faction do you suppose this castle will have? Maybe the as-yet-unknown new faction?
