  1. Congratulations on both your tenth series and your six thousandth post @Robert8! You've again created another excellent series here, with many ingenious and amazing designs! For me, the two standouts in this one are the French Queen and most definitely the Inventor! I really like the Inventor's simplistic design and his liberal use of Copper accenting. When you initially said there was going to be a Steampunk archetype in this series, I automatically presumed it was going to be a much more embellished, goofier looking figure; so actually this was a rather pleasant surprise! I hope see more some Steampunk archetypes in a future series, perhaps something like either a Clockwork Automaton, a Time Traveler, or an Evil, Half-Mechanical Baron for instance. Since you said there would only be two sci-fi archetypes in this series, including the Steampunk Inventor, I was surprised to see the little green Martian, who's quite the cute design! Was he the second archetype? I just presumed the male Cyborg was. By the way, I really like the Postman idea, but I think he should have had a different hat. Personally, I think he should have had the hat donned by both the S11 Scarecrow and the S15 Farmer instead, but that's just my two cents. Ditto! I don't like costumed characters myself, but I'd definitely buy the figure for that alone!
  2. There are now some official images* of at least three sets for the Juniors theme for next year, two for City, one for Friends. *The images may not have been officially released though, since I initially saw them on Instagram, both box art and white backdrop art.
  3. I found the image of the figure on Instagram, paired alongside that one biker character who dons the night vision goggles in Black. The thing is though, that biker figure has his goggles clipped onto a normal "racer" helmet, as opposed to the unprinted Paintballer helmet we saw initially.
  4. Well, if that's the case, then I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing official images of the 2018 sets any time now before Nov. 24th. Same can be said for many other themes I suppose.
  5. A most excellent creation, I love the details like the "warping" of the barn's boards and the tipped-over rusty gas pump. By the way, from the looks of it, that Bugatti is in really good shape!
  6. Have you've ever done motion animation before? Because, that was just mesmerizingly cool!
  7. If that guy is just too plain daunting for you, Flickr user Moko has created all four Jaegers seen in the film in a "Chibi" scale. They're much smaller and proportionally inaccurate, but to me, their proportions are more resembling of a minifigure's, giving them a "Lego touch". Flickr - Pacific Rim by Moko

  9. His spectrum of color choices are what struck me as well, as well as details such as the strata of the city's foundation and the subways running though it! Though it may not be as colorful, they reminded me of this one particular Ideas project by user Bazhenoff, which had gathered over 1100+ supporters before it had expired. The project is more Noir/Dieselpunk/Gotham in its design than the brighter, more optimistic genres of Retro Futurism and Decopunk. I wonder though if fictional micro-skylines like these would be more suitable for the Architecture theme, even though the theme focuses mostly on real life examples. By the way, which issue of Blocks magazine had you seen Jeff's work in?
  10. Well, for me, any sort of flying craft in black with some sort of transparent shade of green or yellow (even orange) just says Blacktron to me. I know the first incarnation had solid yellow pairing along side the black and Trans-yellow, and the second one had white; but for creations, I usually omit that third solid color. Black and its pairing transparent color just looks a whole lot cleaner, and really emphasizes the "Tron" in Blacktron.
  11. Would you say that the "simpler" variant may be more repurposable as a comic styled variant?
  12. As always, here's hoping Creator has something in store for next year, especially for Classic Space's 40th anniversary! So far though, Nexo Knights looks like it has a lot of potential for some great space parts, like many have discussed in the 2017 topic and elsewhere. Also, next year's Bat-Spaceshuttle for TLBM looks to potentially include a new Trans-yellow windshield for the main shuttle build, though its usage will be limited to being inserted into this part. There's also the possibility Star Wars may give us at least one new transparent canopy recolor for 2018, but we'll have to wait and see if that will come to be.
  13. I saw this project on Ideas the other day, and I'll say, its quite a novel homage project for Lego Space's 40th anniversary next year! I love your cosmos backdrop and mini monorail incorporated into this diorama! Good luck on your way to the 10K milestone!
  14. By "not viable for a whole theme", I don't mean standalone playsets that couldn't be expanded into a whole theme, just playsets based upon a theme or genre that there wouldn't be interest in for a whole theme lineup currently, just like traditional Space and Castle. But, the playsets would be standalone in the sense that they wouldn't be incomplete without supporting sets and a storyline. Being Creator subtheme sets, their selling point would be more about the star build (castle, spaceship, fighter plane, rocketship, etc.) as opposed to its self explanatory storyline and characters. And, like non-Expert Creator sets, their other selling point would be that they would feature multiple alternate builds and/or inspiration models.
  15. Man, how I wish. But, unfortunately the franchise is practically OWNED by Mattel. That at least could be a more viable option in light of what I had just pointed out above. EB user @ScotNick had done a very nice rendition of that tank engine, along with one in TTTE colors as seen in the picture and Flickr album below. Flickr - LBSCR E2 - Thomas the Tank Engine
  16. Really? Which topic? Edit: Never mind, I found it in his last post made twelve hours ago.
  17. Oooh, thanks for sharing this guy's work, he does have some beautiful little creations there! Even much of his minifigure centric photography is quite gorgeous, with an amazing blend of natural elements and lighting!
  18. Hmm, so not every figure in this CMS will be a some sort of animal/food/vertical inanimate object suited archetype? If that's the case, I'd be happy to hear that, since maybe this series will then have something a bit more "palatable" for others tastes. * *I'm not talking about food suit guys by the way.
  19. Fun, a male counterpart to the S16 Cyborg! I like your usage of TLNM Zane's hairpiece in Dark Azure, most characteristic!
  20. I hadn't before, but I did just now. There are a few CMF vignettes there that are nice, but yeah, mostly minifigure photography. Now the guy I originally posted about did initially start off with Instagram posts focused on minifigure photography, just like most Instagram users it seems. But currently, he's on a roll with these micro-cityscapes; so I'm wondering if he just an exception as far as MOCs go. Perhaps he'll eventually share them on Flickr instead, where most AFOLs share their creations anyway. Thanks for the suggestion though, do you know of any other prominent Lego-centric Instagram accounts that I may have more luck at?
  21. Essentially, the theme would be a clearing house for genres that otherwise would not be viable for an entire standalone theme. That's why I cited the Creator theme as an example, it has no known boundaries as to what the theme would be able to cover. Also, these sets would not be standalone within the theme if the set and/or sets prove to be popular compared to other subthemes within it, spawning successor sets in the following years. Again, it also would prove the popularity of that subtheme if successful, therefore potentially producing a breakoff theme as a result. If the subtheme does not fly, they would simply move on to other ideas. As far as new molds, particularly for minifigures, I think such a theme should just stick with recolors of preexisting inventory to avoid that issue, much like Creator. New prints, on the other hand, wouldn't be as big of a deal as new molds I think.
  22. Of course, my ulterior reason in wishing for such an open theme would be for the line to introduce a variety of sets based upon alternate historical genres, such as Retro Futurism, Steampunk, Dieselpunk, Atompunk, Decopunk, etc. Also, a theme like this could feature sets that could complement the Collectable Minifigure theme. Some sets would feature builds complementary to specific CMF archetypes and minifigures supplementary to those CMFs.
  23. In order of first to sixth, I went with the S8 Diver, the S6 Lady Liberty, the S7 GALAXY PATROL ( ), the S14 Plant Monster, the S11 Welder, and the S8 Thespian (who's currently in the lead by a long shot).
  24. I would love to learn that S18 will NOT be a "costume" series after all, but we've already had too much confirmation that it will be.
  25. But in theory, the Creator theme is the closest thing we have to what @Agent Kallus had proposed, despite those limitations. Maybe, perhaps instead of reinventing the Creator theme, Lego could introduce another subtheme of Creator slotted above the three in one Creator theme in age range and slotted below the Expert subtheme in advanced techniques. I suppose such a subtheme would be named "Creator : Advanced", featuring MOC-quality builds and a price range for the most part sitting below $100. Like the Expert subtheme, it would include rarer colored and specialized parts; but unlike the Expert subtheme, they also would include multiple exclusive figures not made with preexisting inventory prints. And again, most importantly, the subtheme would be a vessel for those themes and genres where an entire theme could not be viable for them at the time. Just think of the possibilities! I mean, perhaps the subtheme could even serve as a proving ground for those themes and genres where there is uncertainty about their success in the current market, even genres which have never been tested out by Lego before.
