Interesting. These boxed "Iconic" promotional sets have gone from CMF remakes, to altered CMFs, and now to completely all new designs. If we are to continue to see many more of these promotional sets in the future, I wonder if this is the new, set precedent for them, or if we may see additional ones that take after the initial ones (a.k.a. unaltered and/or altered CMF designs).

The choice between the S10 Roman Commander and TLM Shakespeare was a pretty difficult one; but, in the end, I went with the Roman Commander.

Type of headgear: TLBM Penguin's top hat in Reddish Brown. Type of facial expression: Calm and observant, with a trimmed Dark Brown mustache and thick eyebrows in Dark Brown also. Color on torso/legs: Dark Bluish Grey, with Reddish Brown shoes printed on the toes of the legs. Also, newer cloth coattail piece in Reddish Brown to match torso. Accessory: TLBM Penguin's umbrella in Earth Green. Racketeer Gender: Male. Occupation/print on torso: White torso with dual molded arms, White upper, Bright Yellow lower. In retrospect, there are five themes which had sets that stood out from the rest and caught my attention, which included... The Lego Batman Movie, which had some amazing flagship Bat-vehicles, particularly the Batmobile, the Batwing, and the most novel Scuttler mech. I also can't applaud Lego enough for incorporating Trans-yellow into many of the Bat-vehicles' color schemes, giving us some awesome recolored canopies in the process. Also, the wild, Decopunk-esq aesthetic of Penguin's Arctic Roller deserves a mention here. The Lego Ninjago Movie, which gave us its extraordinary, cinematic rendition of the Destiny's Bounty and the unexpected, Cyberpunk-like Ninjago City D2C. Though they may have been scaled down from their cinematic counterparts, many of the theme's other sets were excellent, particularly Kai's Mech. Creator, specifically in the case of its flagship, three-in-one 31070 Turbo Track Racer. Not only is the main build good looking, it even incorporates some great, hidden mechanical ingenuity. Also deserving special mention, 31059 Sunset Street Bike gave us that Nexo Knights windshield in Trans-Black for the first time; and 31062 Robo Explorer and 31066 Space Shuttle Explorer are the theme's first ventures into space, which could be promising for its future. Ideas, specifically the 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V, with its extraordinary internal construction, and the 21310 Old Fishing Store, probably 2017's most beautiful set. If I had to single out one particular standout CMF for each Collectable Minifigure Series introduced for this year, it would probably be Vacation Batman for TLBM series, you-know-who for Series 17 (), and N-POP Girl for TLNM series.

[MOC] Peugeot Spinner from Blade Runner 2049
Digger of Bricks replied to Bricks Feeder's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I've seen quite a few renditions of Blade Runner 2049's Spinner done before and after the release of the film, and so far, this I think is the best rendition yet! The taillights and rear undercarriage of this model are what really does it for me. Superb work! -
Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification!

Dual Molded Minifigure Parts?
Digger of Bricks replied to Forresto's topic in General LEGO Discussion
There was a topic asking this same question posted back in October last year, to which @Aanchir answered with some Brickset links that had compiled some information on that particular subject. Here's the post: -
The Best Spaceship Released By LEGO
Digger of Bricks replied to legitimatealex's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
For me, I would have to say 2009's Space Police Hyperspeed Pursuit (5973), of which I own two copies of that I've found at thrift stores over the years. The thing is though, I really wish to see Lego do a retro rocketship-type spacecraft, though more akin to the rocketcraft of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon comic strips (like the example pictured below) as opposed to the warhead-like rocketcraft of 1950's science fiction. The only two examples of sci-fi rocketcraft in Lego sets I can think of are in 7315 Solar Explorer and 7690 MB-01 Eagle Command Base. -
I'm following a few subforums here on Eurobricks, which include Frontpage News, General LEGO Discussion, The Embassy, Community, LEGO Sci-Fi, and LEGO Train Tech. Yesterday, I received a notification of a topic by EB user @Jevilthat was posted in a subforum called the "Bottom Drawer", which I clicked on only to see a message from Eurobricks that reads "Sorry, there is a problem. You do not have permission to view this content." Not only do I not follow such a subforum, I've never before even seen or heard of it until now. Later, while browsing the forum, I found that same topic posted in the Community subforum; that makes sense since I am following that subforum, but I don't understand why I received that restricted access notification for it though. So, what is the "Bottom Drawer"?

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Digger of Bricks replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Whether or not we'll end up seeing more Classic Space material represented in set lines for 2019's two cinematic movies (for The Lego Movie sequel though, it's more likely than not), I definitely have high hopes for both of them irregardless, since the set lines for the last three cinematic movies did not disappoint.- 991 replies

The first series had a pretty good selection of contenders, but I like the majority of the selection in the second series more so than the selection of the first one. As for the choices presented here in this round, I chose the latter, non-TLNM CMFs for all of them.

Many would definitely love to see reimagined takes on iconic playsets, or at least sets inspired after or homage takes on them.

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Digger of Bricks replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Well, 10404 Ocean's Bottom does show a Microfighter-like build of what does seem to resemble the Galaxy Explorer in the right hand corner of the box art. Still...- 991 replies

Well, each of the three flagship sets I had initially mentioned came out in 2013, 2015, and 2017 respectively. For 2014 and 2016 though, the summer flagship sets were minifigure scaled ones, 31026 Bike Shop & Cafe and 31052 Vacation Getaways specifically. If there is a pattern to see there, perhaps we will be seeing from here on a minifigure scaled flagship summer release every other year, with a large non-minifigure scaled flagship vehicle set in between those other years.

Anyone have any hopes or predictions for summer 2018 sets, particularly for larger flagship sets such as 31011 Aviation Adventures, 31039 Blue Power Jet, or 31070 Turbo Track Racer?

Lego 60th Anniversary sets 2018
Digger of Bricks replied to TeufelHund's topic in Special LEGO Themes
In a way, these sets could be considered a modern evolution of some of the first part pack sets introduced during the System's inception, showcasing how far the System has come in color and basic brick variety. -
The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

While the Trans-yellow windshield piece is great, the corresponding Black nose part seems to be printed upon with a gold Bat-emblem unfortunately.- 991 replies

Nope, this year's Turbo Track Racer set from the Creator theme has at least the hubcaps in White. The thing is, those hubcap parts I believe have been around longer than the Speed Champions theme has. One of the 2007 Agents sets has them in a metallic silver color I think.

I'd certainly hope to see inverses of those slopes in the near future, and for that matter, a 2×2 footprinted slope that essentially fuses both opposites together side by side. I've looked for something like this in the past before with no luck, but, do you know if there is a Brickset-like database out there on the web that catalogs competitor brand parts? If not, perhaps someone here should start a topic in the Community subforum on the subject, unless someone already has.

The Rocket Rally Car is interesting, particularly in its color scheme, but the main build itself somewhat shoddy and clunky looking. Well, other than that, this set is the third one to feature windshield part 28782, and the second one to feature it in Trans. Light Blue. On the other hand, the main dragon build in 31073 makes an interesting usage of those Trans. Light Green spearhead parts for eyes, which are unusual pieces to see in Creator sets.

Lego 60th Anniversary sets 2018
Digger of Bricks replied to TeufelHund's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well, set no. 10404 does come with both a Castle and Classic Spaceship as shown on the box art. I must say, the box art is rather different, especially with the Lego logo in bottom right hand corner instead. And yeah, the only thing it seems that differentiates this line from the classic theme are the minifigures. -

As far as the rumor for an Expert scale modular train station goes, I think that has been pretty much shot down, since the discussion is now focused on a leaked purported image of next year's modular, a 1950's styled diner specifically. We're just waiting now to see if it is real or not.
