  1. Certainly there is a demand for Space beyond Star Wars, but is it as large (or larger) as the customer base for Star Wars? In terms of science fiction inspired material, I'm afraid not; but, realistic space related material certainly has a great demand, given how many NASA based projects have been approved for production and sold very well as a result. Also, there recently have been numerous submissions for Space X related projects that have speedily gained quite a bit of traction. And that's the thing, I'm afraid Lego started this Ideas contest with many of those projects in mind, not anything pertaining to Classic Space particularly. But, after seeing how many submissions turned out to take after Classic themes instead of realistic space material, it may give those at TLG some food for thought. A medieval contest after this one seems like a given if you ask me.
  2. Certainly, as some creations you might not find pictures or postings of elsewhere other than Ideas, sometimes due to them being created in mind as an Ideas project from its inception. I see so many submissions there for modular projects, and many of them being immensely popular from the get-go. Here's a non-modular project that's more residential than it is urban, which you may or may not have seen already: LEGO Ideas - A Tutor House!
  3. STREAMLINER!!! Man, these are the kind of locomotives I'd love to see more of from you!
  4. Here's a pretty darn cool project that was recently submitted: Snow-Blower Locomtive by redera00
  5. Sure, as a new topic can then be frontpaged. I mean, this topic was frontpaged at the time, so therefore, could it be frontpaged a second time? If not, that's definitely justification for a new topic!
  6. You know, I think I remember which image you may be talking about. Wasn't Superman seen in the window of his apartment playing videogames? It must have been in an issue dating from anytime in 2012 or early 2013 around the time that set was still for sale.
  7. This is a modular Ideas project that I'm rather fond of, particularly for its Earth Green roof and complementary antique automobile build, not to mention that I love antique stores. LEGO Ideas - Antonio's Antiques Ooooh, now that is nice!
  8. Blood Hawk, Fortune's Thorn, and M-Tron Vector Defector by @The Librarian While Mark may label this Viper as Steampunk, it's hard for me to see it that way, as its forwards prongs have a sort of streamlined, Art Deco styling to them. Also, those Bionicle masks kinda give a Chrysler Building Gargoyle quality to the fightercraft. Well, there's this one by Mike that's rather similar to another airship I featured on this topic not too long ago:
  9. I think most fans of those traditional lines wouldn't mind seeing narrative heavy takes on any classic theme currently, as at least it would be something. Of course, it wouldn't be so much about them being narrative/media driven, but how they were executed. With Space, it's science fiction, so pretty much anything goes as long as it's actually set in space and not a terrestrial setting. Castle and Pirates, on the other hand, may divide those who wish for either a more historical setting or a more fantastical one. But as far as those who may desire a conflict-less Space theme, unfortunately, I don't believe we'll ever see such a premise in a standalone playtheme again. But hey, preexisting themes like City and Creator could certainly house lines like that.
  10. Nope, as there is no set precedent as to where Creator can go or do, just by acting on the broadly encompassing name alone. So Pirates, Space, Castle, Adventurers, City, anything and everything are game. Rechecked it myself, and yeah, I'm surprised I initially missed it! I guess I simply glanced it over without further inspection then, as I just presumed the set was simply a treehouse, being a low quality image and all. Great observation!
  11. These diagonal half-cut 2×2 tiles are going to be great! Brickset - Review: 75885 Ford Fiesta M-Sport WRC
  12. Last night, over on the 2018 Harry Potter discussion topic, set designer Mark Stafford (a.k.a. @Nabii) had this to say in response to a question regarding in-house Castle themes particularly: Here's a link to his questionnaire, I'll let you all draw your own conclusions.
  13. See you then Jim! Thanks for all your hard work!
  14. Vics' Viper, Iron Hawk, and The Retro Rocket by @Nabii I did like these complementary hovercars he made for his display also.
  15. Huh, I just automatically presumed he meant the former, as I've almost brainwashed myself into thinking Space was off limits due to Star Wars, hence same with Castle based upon that presumption. But seriously, the "Star Wars nulls Space" argument does hold water, so its most likely he knows Space is screwed, and he is indeed suggesting Castle is in that same boat. Is that now because Harry Potter is to Castle what Star Wars is to Space? Well... ^ THIS ^
  16. Well, if he can design a set like Hogwarts, he can definitely put his heart and soul into a Classic Castle theme. Again, he's not solely to blame for the direction Nexo Knights took, as it was most likely the best concept that tested with kids.
  17. Um, I don't think he was solely responsible for the theme's very concept. If anything, he was probably assigned to its development (after higher-ups chose the line's direction) since it was more up his alley.
  18. Now what about 2016's Ghostbusters HQ? Was that at least considered to be built within the modular standard?
  19. If indeed the same fate befalls Castle as did Space, will Pirates eventually suffer the same? Perhaps 2019 will be the Pirates theme's last hoorah for its thirtieth anniversary, until it takes a long leave of absence?
  20. Perhaps that could be how Lego may handle those two lines currently, but back then, we did have in-house Castle themes running alongside Harry Potter when it was around, right?
  21. I'll see what he says, but perhaps he may only mean that we might not see a more simplistic castle theme, not necessarily the long term absence of medieval themes altogether.
  22. What exactly might you mean by "true Castle theme"? Perhaps just one with a much simpler premise like 2010's Kingdoms or 2013's Castle, or do you mean for any sort of authentic, medieval in-house theme?
  23. Wait, why? Harry Potter perhaps?
  24. Particularly, I could see the Daily Planet, the Daily Bugle, the Avengers Mansion, and the Sanctum Sanctorum all being done as modulars to fit within the Creator Expert line, while the others you mentioned probably are best done as standalone buildings only built within the modular standard. With both the Daily Planet and the Daily Bugle specifically, I'd imagine that they be done as four story tall, twenty-four stud three quarters width modular buildings to roughly convey the slender profile of a skyscraper without actually being one.
