    37 euros for an inferior interceptor, i dont even... If this is typical bartsmit behaviour itll be 35 msrp + 2 extra, which means lego upped the 30 euro sets to 35 across the board, as if the SW stuff wasnt expensive enough yet I might just buy the old one and color mod it

    Hmm, i only own 8880 off that list, i was expecting 42000 and 42039 to make the cut as well, but they are just a tad too small I might end up getting 42042 or 42025 if i have leftover budget though

    Apologies, im not a big construction/truck fan, so that kind of stuff doesnt really stick with me, im mostly hyped about the ultimate ip car, but some of the rumors have been less then exciting.

    this shot from wookiepedia suggests otherwise though: http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/8/8f/JediInterceptors.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20071031031348 Perhaps in your shot R4 is sticking higher out of the socket to "sit in" on the briefing or something (or is in the process of being loaded). Either way, the lego model still has another inaccuracy, the droid sits perfectly vertical in the movie, yet sits perpendicular to the wing surface in the lego model.

    No worries, i know it isnt a true flagship, but considering you had 42039 and 42042 in the lineup i figured it was worth mentioning

    Yeah, looking at the front width i think you *might* be able to fit three cylinders and have a gear off the crank running underneath the engine, but im ignoring the liftarms/bricks on the side of the engine, and the height would be a BIG issue. I think in most FWD/FE cars the engine is slightly in front of the front axle, with the diff connecting to the gearbox on the rear-side, and you might be able to use the crown wheels of the front-diff to transmit power rearwards, but this would make the front quite bulky, and eliminates the possibility for a center diff (meaning front and rear axle are locked) I wonder if anyone has ever done a good transverse FE/FWD MOC, most big cars i see here are RE/RWD or RE/AWD or use longitudinal V8 engines to a center mounted diff.

    Personally i prefer building from a booklet, i dont have a modern tablet, and i like being able to pick up a build (i keep the parts in bowls/on a plate/plank/lid for builds longer then an hour) and continuing somewhere else. Im not to fussed about the B-model booklets missing though, i cant remember building a B-model in the last ten years, they are generally inferior to the A-model, but in the same theme, so i dont end up buying a set for the B-model either (the race truck could have been an exception, i like the stock-car, but not €70 like)

    42000 is very similar to 42039 in size and scope (and price, new anyway), but it has a few improvements (or rather, 42039 has a few downgrades), the wishbone/pushrod suspension is much more interesting (and accurate), it uses a few small linear actuators rather then the worm-wheel/liftarm setup seen in 42039 for the moving parts. Another important bit for me is that 42000 looks "right" out of the box, it doesnt look like any particular car, but it nails the "2013 F1 car" look dead on, high nose, DRS, V8 engine etc.. 42039 on the other hand is rather off, compared to current LMP1/2 cars. Ive been modding my 42039 quite extensively to get it to look "right", whereas i havent had that urge with 42000 (save for getting it tumbler tires once prices drop) Honestly though, just think of it as 42039 non-identical (slightly prettier) twin sister, not exactly flag-ship sized or complex, but as good as it gets for technic race cars.

    Wouldnt most of these "hacks" or attempts to bend the rule just get sniffed out during voting and scored less? I know i wouldnt award lots of points to a model which just stashes inappropriate parts somewhere for the sake of using them in the B-model

    Pretty much the only reason im interested in this set, i hope this drives BL prices low enough for me to buy 4 TTs to make my 42000 GP racer look more F1-y

    Looks cool so far! Personally id try to fit a bigger fake engine (dont think a transverse i4 would fit right?) and go for a lancia rally car style body (Delta Integrale, a martini livery would be pretty doable and visually interesting)

    Might i suggest 42000? If sets like 42039, 42042 and such tick the "large" box well enough, 42000 will as well (it is a few inches longer then 42039), and it features very interesting suspension (pushrod + wishbones) Out of the ones you list, id go for the AROCS based on the drivetrain/axle stuff

    The picture of the manual says 4x 5L yellow axle, and that seems to line up with what im seeing in the pics as well So i assume the 4L is a typo

    Thanks! Im a bit shocked how much the tail bends when you pick it up to show the winch, but i guess that is to be expected with that heavy battery box and all those mechanisms in the main body. I love how responsive and fluid the functions are, very nice!

    Jim, the functions video is still set to private. And awesome review, i agree with you that the panelled up look is brilliant, they really closed the bodywork up very nicely, even the bottom. Shame the rudder/elevator at the back dont have a more interesting linkage though. I was planning on getting this set, but it looks very good, i might just pick it up halfway through the year if the H2 sets dont do it for me (either this or the crawler crane, which ive been eyeing as well)

    Thanks for the review Jim, thorough as always! This set is definitely the ugly duckling of the wave though, the only thing i like (besides the obvious tumbler tires) is the chassis/bodywork seperate style construction, ive been trying to do the same with my 42039, the entire rear body work pulls off by removing a few push-pins On the bright azure, it is a nice color, but adding yet another color to the quickly expanding range is a bit questionable on Lego's part, given all the different shades and colors in use, all on just one or two models lately, properly color coordinating a moc/mod is getting hard.

    Awesome review Jim! Thank you so much for doing the white/green kart at the end, the stickers from 42039 even work brilliantly! This has to be my favorite set from this wave, they absolutely nailed the kart look, the chassis with big side and front panels, the details on the engine I also love the B-model, i cant quite pinpoint what kind of track-car it would be, it kind of reminds me of a lamborghini roadster with that big splitter and spoiler. Shame about the HOG steering on it, but not too big of a deal on a B-model (and might be fixable with some extra parts) EDIT: the B-model also has an Ariel Atom / KTM X-bow thing going on, which are more appropriate for a track car then a lambo :P

    Thanks for the review Jim! Im not a big fan of this set myself TBH, the model just doesnt do it for me (not a police or SUV fan), and as a parts pack... those white panels can be had in the display team jet for half the price

    Yeah, i bricklinked my own black Darth Vader's Interceptor based off of the yellow one, its an awesome set. Not sure if the new one has enough of the red parts needed for the old design though, the radiator panels perhaps, but that is about it i think, as far as uncommon pieces are concerned.
