    I blame @zephyr1934 for this MOD! He said something to the effect of the engine from set 76423 (Hogwarts Express and Hogsmeade Station) would look a bit like James if you added side rods. So, I used the instructions and modified it a bit more, and voila! James the mixed traffic engine! I removed the pistons, changed the funnel / dome, added side rods + magnetic couplers, and I even made enough room for a mini-figure to stand in the cab! The only things missing I can't replicate are a pair of leather bootlaces... There are a lot of pieces missing, including two bracket types on the engine, two new slope bricks and three ancient wheelsets from the 4.5 / 12V era trains for use on the tender. I'm also missing two Big Ben Bricks wheels in the smallest size for the leading pony truck. Thoughts? EDIT: I got the wheel arrangement wrong. it's now been fixed!

    That's understandable... I have projects I would like to build that are unattainable due to costs, display space, storage, structural stability, or any combination of those issues. Still, it's a nice model!

    @XG BC Have you thought about using parts 85941, 24593, or 6259 for the roof for the Seattle station? It would be a lot stronger (and cheaper) than what you have there with individual quarter-circle parts.

    Hooray! I was hoping some more old-fashioned detective nonsense would emerge from the mists of the good Captain's mind, and here it is! This is a great start, can't wait to see what happens next!

    Just out of curiosity @zephyr1934, are you potentially going to upload instructions for side rods like the you did way back when with Western Train Chase (7597) and Constitution Train Chase (79111)? Those 79111 instructions helped jump-start my train-making a decade ago!

    Scrolling through Facebook and saw this. She (don't know her name) is going to be the new companion in Doctor Who, and has what seems to be official mini-figures of her and the 15th Doctor in her hands. Couple this with the TARDIS I saw in the background of the CITY set 60380's lifestyle pictures, could more LEGO Doctor Who be on the way? I think it's getting more likely by the day!

    I deconstructed my older house model and have started the construction of the new one. A lot of those parts are in this bin, but more are in another. Most of what you see is extra and will not be used. As it is, I still have 140 parts (about 25 dollars worth of parts) to order at some point... but until then, this is as far as I can go! Thoughts?

    I remember reading about this loco in a book (British steam since 1900, by W. A. Tuplin) published right around the end of steam in 1968. I remember thinking this 0-10-0 was incredibly huge for it's day, considering James Holden looks positively puny compared to his creation. Anyway, you have pulled this model off nicely! If you are taking suggestions, the Lickey Banker engine 0-10-0 (also named Big Bertha) would be a nice contrast with the Holden Express loco.

    I vote 7 wide, transitioning to 6 further back. It's what the EN was, for the most part. (7 wide cab, 6 wide tender, 6 wide coach)

    There really aren't any more possible angles to show... you can't get in the cab (no details in there anyway). I was wracking my brain trying to think up pictures, but go nothing. Also, since I've now put it on a 32x32 baseplate for modular compatibility, but am missing a few parts, so it isn't presentable right now, even if I did have another angle. Sorry, @Darkkostas25!

    What are you talking about? If you're talking about the Lego figure, it's called diversity, because not everybody looks the same, and everyone deserves someone who looks like they do. From what I recall reading, a little girl with a limb difference wrote to Lego and asked why there weren't mini-doll's like her. This character is a result of that letter. LEGO also made it possible to attach a clip to her arm as a prosthetic, which is the point of this topic. (I hope this post isn't considered min-modding, but this post by Maple really irked me.)

    Update Time! Model finished in real life, albeit with a different loco. That portion of the model was heavily inspired by the famous C.P. Huntington 4-2-4T steam loco originally owned by the Central Pacific, which was at one point on a plinth very similar to this one. Main post updated with new pictures and info.

    I voted for the Explorien Starship. It contains the first instances of LEGO Alien life (in fossil form)! Unfortunately, the fossil happens to look just like the Alien egg from the franchise of the same name. So, the crew are all goners.

    Only 16 parts left to go on the airplane! Paycheck should be arriving to finish it sometime soon. Sorry it's taking so long to get it done!

    Update time! Here is everything found so far for the UP house MOD in a more neutral color scheme. (A LOT more parts are coming from a failed model that I've yet to take apart.) ...and here are the parts still needed for this project that I haven't found yet / don't have enough of. Thoughts?

    Anything beyond custom wheels or stickers is a no-no from me - especially 3D printing things that can be done reasonably well in LEGO bricks alone. However, having said that, I'm a realist (and a bit of a hypocrite): I've bought two three-way 3D printed switches because I don't have the table space / room to make it work with regular left / right switches. Doing things beyond that (I.E. 3D printing this or gluing that while painting the other) is a non-starter in my world. I don't do model railroading, I do Lego trains because it fits me better as person. ...and it's leagues cheaper to boot*!! If I wanted to do glue, 3D print, or paint, I'd do HO like my stepdad does. Once you do these things, why stick with the brick at all? You might as well build a scale model layout as it's nearly the same thing by that point. *You think LEGO is expensive? Try looking in a Bachmann catalog for O scale stuff, as that's close to Lego track gauge. You will have your socks blown off by prices, and those several-hundred-dollar locos you see aren't even the really $$$$ brass ones! You'll be praising Lego for keeping prices as low as they have by the end of the catalog!
