  1. Welcome to Eurobricks mate, sounds like an interesting project. My advice with MOCing is to just go with what you feel could work, after a few attempts you'll get a feel for it. you've got a good starting idea there for a first MOC (even though it's technically a mod ), just get your spare parts together and get the crane at the starting point that you want and go with what you feel is best for what you want it to be like at the end. It's a matter of lots of trial and error, just keep working at it and you'll have success eventually
  2. Welcome to Eurobricks mate Enjoy your time here and I hope you go to the show in Wellington
  3. Good job, really good shaping on the roof of the cab I agree with VF though, the rear of the truck needs a bit more work done because it looks a bit unfinished, other than that it looks good
  4. Yeah I reckon that it's fine to just mention the original creator if you don't intend to make a profit from instructions for example. When it comes to paid instructions then it depends on how large/important the reused part is in the MOC, if it's an integral part of the MOC then I think you need to ask permission but otherwise it's fine. Most people will say yes anyway because we're a good, sharing community
  5. LXF said exactly what I was thinking, it looks interesting and I'd like to see it when it's done but I agree that it needs a larger base or it will fall over extremely easily.
  6. Really? You answered your own question straight away, it says 'Temporarily out of stock'. I'm assuming you don't speak English very well because it explains it, they don't currently have any 42030 sets ready for sale at the moment so you just have to wait for however long it takes for TLG to restock it. Generally the sets get retired two years after they are released so the Volvo will still be available for a year yet.
  7. Great job, every photo I scrolled down made me smile a little more Good photography too, I like the blurred edges.
  8. And if it doesn't work I'm sure you can still get a replacement one from Lego unless you've done any tinkering to it.
  9. Ahhh that's brilliant! It appears to all work really well. I especially like the usage of 24-tooth clutch gears as eyes, very creative. The jaws on it are pretty funny looking Good job mate, you put a smile on my face.
  10. Just looking at it gives you the idea it means business, I really like the bodywork on it and it reminds me of the C model of the Creator 6753 Highway Transporter with an extra axle. Good job!
  11. Yeah it's just HoG, it was initially fully motorized with no suspension but it had a major lack of power with two L motors driving it (because OCD deemed that I couldn't have one XL motor off centre ) and the steering had some issues. So I removed the RC functions so that only the crane was motorized and added full suspension to the model. And as I mentioned before my cab building skill leave a bit to desire but they're getting better, the MOC that I just started today will probably look far better given that it's a conventional instead of cabover truck.
  12. Thanks Alasdair, I agree with everything you said, I would definitely have preferred to have dual wheels on the trailer and have steering axles but I did indeed run out of parts. I have never been very good at building cabs but I'm on my way, this is far improved from earlier builds of the cab but it definitely needs work still Thanks for the explanation Jay, I've added the video to the first post. As I said above, I've never been good at cab building but I'm on my way. The older Fodens are a bit boxier which is why I went for one of these models but the problem with that is that you can then make them look even boxier I will try to do a bit better at cab designing next time
  13. Hey all, My latest MOC is modeled off of a 10x6 Foden S108 crane truck tractor unit run by Mackenzie Transport of Auckland. There are some differences between the real truck and my MOC such as their trucks are white but mine was made in red due to parts constraints and the other difference being that the original Palfinger truck mounted crane on the truck has a five-stage extension on it but my version only has two-stage extension because that was the most I could have before the crane arm became too large and out of proportion. Photos of the original truck can be found here: https://www.flickr.c...ith/6161598123/ MOC's Features: HOG steering Live axle suspension on the rear axles Pneumatically controlled pendular suspension on the front axles Stabilizers Locking turntable Tilting cab with straight six piston engine under the cab Full interior of cab with suspended seats Motorized truck mounted crane with two-stage extension Custom stickers LED running lights The combination with everything expanded This photo is one of my favourites and shows the custom stickers of badging and the original number plate from the truck The truck on its own Everyone's favourite photo, the under shot This photo shows the controls for the crane (the PF switches) along with the switch and pump for the front air suspension The engine without the cab attached The interior The mechanism for seat suspension LED running lights Now for the trailer, a three axle extending trombone trailer. It has full independent suspension, landing gear and of course an extending deck. The trailer extends 29 studs, bringing it to a total deck length of 122 studs/97.6CM. Trailer when extended with lattice boom load Trailer when retracted Trailer suspension system Underside when extended Underside when retracted Another photo of the combination Statistics: Total length with trailer extended: 173 studs/138CM Length of truck: 77 studs/61.6CM Width: 19 studs/15.2CM Height: Truck weight: 2.4KG Trailer weight: 0.8KG Load weight: 0.2KG Pieces count: 4000 +/- Time to build: 60+ hours This is the first time I have used a white background instead of no background and I am very pleased with the results and will definitely do it again. As always more photos can be found on my Bricksafe and for the first time, a video can be found on my YouTube channel! I hope you enjoy my MOC as much as I do Bricksafe: http://bricksafe.com...e/completed-moc YouTube: https://www.youtube....876u7IUZPRGhwrQ
  14. You can go to an office supplies shop or some stationary shops and get label paper which I use to put custom stickers on my models. You just put it through a printer like any other paper and then cut out and peel the back off of them.
  15. Looks pretty nice, looks like you based it on an ACCO from the headlights. Seems to work well
  16. Even if that's the case, just post it in the collection thread we have, otherwise it's hard for other people to find it and it clogs the forums with individual threads.
  17. Thanks for the offer, yeah I remember that, it would be perfect for the trailer. I'll most likely be showing up to set up my display after dinner at some point between 7:00PM and 8:30PM, is there any chance you could get a photo of it for me?
  18. Cheers Paul, I will be interested to see the logskidder when I arrive at the show. The truck basically has nothing in common with what you saw at your place, the chassis has been redesigned so that it now has full suspension, the front bumper has been rebuilt, the crane now has a two stage extension going for it and by far the biggest change would be that it is no longer remote controlled, she's manual with just motors for the crane's control. The whole unit is just shy of 140CM with the trailer extended so the dining room table has gotten significantly smaller in the past week The only issue I've had is that with being down in Timaru for the week and coming back up tomorrow I haven't had an opportunity to organize a load for it. I won't have time to build anything out of Lego to put on the deck as that it's 121 Studs/ 96.8CM long but I might get lucky and find something that looks right for it, a length of piping or something would be ideal. At least weight won't be an issue with a strong frame and 6 stiff shocks on the rear of the trailer.
  19. I'd better finish off the last, relatively major, touches on the Foden then Close but no cigar comes to mind when thinking about build progress.
  20. I didn't know the yellow wheel rims and LA bracket in 8264 were rare, turns out the inside wheels on the truck aren't as pesky as I thought
  21. I recommend you ask this question on the SBrick forums instead of here, the people there will be able to answer your question better
  22. Sariel is posting his reviews at midnight California time and if I remember correctly that's in 6 hours and 15 mins. EDIT: It's 8 hours and 15 mins.
  23. Arrghh I NEED THIS NOW I'm pretty sure that they're releasing this set in September here so I have to wait for another two months yet, but it will we worth it when I walk into Toyworld and put in an order for two of them Good review Jim, you have confirmed all my hopes in this set.
