[REVIEW] 2H 2015 Video Reviews
Kiwi_Builder replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I found TechnicBRICKs is doing a live building video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc683VNsI_E That starts in Four hours, that means I can watch a build of it at only 11:00AM -
6:40AM Wednesday here, now I have to wait all day until 5:00PM to see the review of this beast to come out
-
Sounds like it could be interesting, and it's the middle of the day for me too! Can you give a link to where you will be streaming?

[MOC] Flatbed Tow Truck
Kiwi_Builder replied to KevinMoo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here's what I get every time I try to build independent suspension on the front: I'm pretty sure that it's something to do with where I attached the 6L ball arms to the steering rack but as of yet I haven't solved the problem. -
[MOC] Flatbed Tow Truck

Looks great! I just found it on Youtube then hopped on here and here it is, it works really well Those 'behind the scenes' videos are great, they really help to understand how the truck works. Could you give some more details on the front suspension? Whenever I try to make front suspension in this scale using that technique I always get problems with not having a good turning circle and having the wheels on terrible outwards angles from each other. It would be great if you could share more on that and good job on the MOC. -
You see the problem with that would be that there are many people who aren't adults, yet are more mature than some adults. I know teenagers who are extremely mature and don't have a problem with that on here. More appropriate would be to make it so that if you find the comment childish or immature you can just report it and a moderator can look at it and make a decision from there and give them a warning if it's their first time or do something more serious about it if the user does comments like this multiple times. You can't just single out all people younger than adults as being the main problem, sure many users who are under adult age will be adding to this problem but many under adult age users are fine.

I agree with you on this, I have a suggestion for the solution of the short posts like 'cool build' being repeated in varying word combinations and holding that post at the top and causing smaller builds to fall to the bottom quickly. Make it so that there is a 'thumbs up' feature for people's posts where if you agree with what they say for something like 'I like your build', you can click on the thumbs up like on other forums, with you being able to thumbs up the original post too if you don't feel like writing a long comment to tell the builder that you like it. I feel that this would at least partially solve this issue of lots of small comments.

Hey all, I am currently in the middle of doing a complete overhaul of the chassis on my WIP (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=109478) and I am considering adding full suspension to the model along with making it manual instead of RC. The only problem is that I can't find any good suspension designs for three driven axles with dual wheels in the 1:17 (19 studs wide) scale. I have searched all through the axle collection thread and various other locations and come up with nothing, if anyone can give me a good design or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. This suspension needs to be compact and without many uncommon parts, with the ability to have the three axles still close to each other due to the fact that it is a tractor unit so it can't be too long. If I don't see a good suspension system and I can't come up with one on my own then I will have to scrap the idea of suspension completely, thanks in advance to anyone who can find a good design.

Axle Collection Thread
Kiwi_Builder replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For my upcoming MOC I have been working on air suspension for the front axle of a 19-wide truck. It uses two of the five stud long pneumatic cylinders, giving it more travel than using standard Lego shock absorber along with having adjustable stiffness and the ability to be lowered completely which is useful on buses. The axle has Ackermann geometry, with the driveshaft for the steering connecting to the chassis instead of the axle's framework using the six stud long suspension arms or whatever they're called which makes the driveline far simpler and easier to connect to the chassis. Unfortunately due to the technique I used to connect the six stud long suspension arms to the steering frame causes the turning circle to reduce, but this problem can be solved by modifying the upper front brace for the steering to remove anything from attaching to the upper pin on the steering frame. So basically the problem is that the steering geometry is limited at the same as second steering axles on models because the connection to the ball pin is the same as on the longer spacing on the steering rack (probably just over-explained something that could be put simply and everyone understands ). Now, less talky, more showy At the wheel it has a range of three studs travel, which I consider pretty decent for a road vehicle in this scale. Ideal ride height is at half extension when loaded so that it can manage both bumps and potholes. (And no, the ceiling is not purple) Bit of a look to the inner workings (And I only just worked out that it would have been a good idea to take the wheels off so I could get a good photo of the actual axle/suspension setup) A look at the steering system, the photo above demonstrates its less than ideal steering lock which can be improved with modification. As always there are more photos on my Bricksafe: http://bricksafe.com/pages/Kiwi_Builder/Technic/Components/Air%20Suspension/Front%20Axle And if there is enough interest I could create an LXF of it to share with you. -
I and I'm sure many other people, would like to put forward 896Gerard's incredible HoverTrack Luctor 544 with Schuitemaker Rapide 8400 RS Forage Wagon: It looks amazing, it's huge and it's packed full of functions, boggling the mind as to how he managed to fit all of these functions into the model and for them to all work brilliantly. On top of all this the video showcasing it is great, it compares the model to the real thing, gives information on the real thing and describes all the functions and how they work. There are numerous comments in the topic with people wanting this to be in the HoF, this MOC inspired me and I hope that it gets the recognition it deserves. Wow. Just wow. I agree with Nerdsforprez, this combination deserves to be put in the HoF.

Bugroll
Kiwi_Builder replied to mahjqa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cool little machine you have there Did the ground have to be wet for it to get a good roll or was that just coincidental? And what makes it roll, is it because it has a high centre of gravity or something? -
Welcome to Eurobricks, it looks interesting but it would do better if you added some extra information to your post instead of just posting a brief description with a photo and a link. Because most people (including me quite often) don't bother to click on the link you give unless you have done a post which makes us want to look further. People would have a better response and follow the link more if you added a full description, a bit of background to the model and stuff like that.

Sorry it took so long to put up another update with some pictures but I haven't had much time to work on it recently. Nevertheless, all the things I have done since last time are: Changed fifth wheel design from mine to Efferman's locking design Started building cab Done prep work for RCing the rear stabilisers Built three axle step deck semi trailer with full independent suspension and pneumatic landing gear I was able to build the trailer thanks to Bricktrain loaning me the required panels for the deck, I decided to go for the stepdeck over the extending trailer due to the fact that with my remaining parts (still plenty but none of what I need for the trailer ) the trailer's chassis was designed in a way that prevented the extending mechanism from fitting, plus the trailer is already 104cm long. The photos are also better quality thanks to me using a proper camera instead of my phone The full combination, which is about 1.4m long The truck on its own The control panel for the crane, with the switches for raising and lowering the two sections and the gear for rotating the crane The rear of the truck with a 'Ringfeder' Efferman's fifth wheel design between the truck and trailer What I have got of the front of the cab so far The trailer The underside of the trailer The axles without load The axles with a load of hand Axles with a light load and 'uneven ground' Overview of the rear axles and the suspension system A close up of one of the suspension modules, the front four modules use the soft suspension and the rear modules use the stiffer yellow suspension due to running out of the softer ones The landing gear pneumatics And finally the landing gear itself As always these photos and more can be found on my Bricksafe, should make better progress from now on as that I have more spare time now.

Yeah mate, you can make a truck mounted crane and the required gearbox with 42009, I'm currently working on a similar project that is a 10x6 tractor unit with a truck mounted crane. It's going to be a bit of a struggle to implement two extending sections into a 1:17 scale truck. Good luck on your building, can't wait to see the end product

Nice job, you did really well to make it look as good as that in such a small scale
