Trains use sand to brake, at least they used to, but I think most still have sand or something like it to make braking much more effective in case of an emergency. Sanding towers are not that big, but make it easy to fill the sand-boxes on trains. train sanding tower

Really nice idea, and nicely executed! Love the PF functions, but would put in a SBrick to control the motor and LED's with. I know that would not make it to Ideas, but would be nice as an after-market MOD. And yes, it needs lights on the cone.. ;-)

Kickstarter: ME Models Tracks for both metal and ABS only track pieces
marook replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I emailed them about a ABS track order from may 2 that have not shipped yet, and got a reply that they should get new supplies in tomorrow (friday), so with luck, tracks are on the way soon! -
Hmm, Heavy-Haul Train is already sold out.. at least on the Danish store. Did they actually sell soem sets, or just ship them to stores?

marook replied to djm's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I'm thinking of building one, and test it with my large HE tran (6 cars, 2 locos). Quiestion: Why do you use these at two rail-ends?? Dark Bluish Gray Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Headlight Why not simply two 1x1 bricks?- 21 replies

I've got 6 cars and two locos, only powered by two motors in the front loco, and here the magnetic couplers sometimes break, when going up-hill for a bridge.. :-/ But that is fixable by putting a 1x2 plate on the couplers between the cars.. ;-) Hopefully I can soon add motors to the end loco as well..

That should be possible.. ;-) IMG_0507 by Marook, on Flickr

It's ~$30 cheaper than 60052, if that gives you a perspective. 60052 lists for DKK 1699,-, this new set list for DKK 1499,- ... Remember, Denmark is an expensive place..

Remember to support your axles from both ends

Holly.... that is a serious statement right there! :-) -
Awesome! Edit: Maybe you need a 'stop' going down, as it seems the lift can go below track-level.. with near-catastrophic consequences ... ;-)

Automatic railway crossing (with Lego Mindstorms NXT)
marook replied to Hanso's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Looks great. How does the crossing know when a train is coming? Seems like the one train signal is a bit earlier than the other.. ?!? -
Nice work. :-) You should try to reverse the 'lenses' on the cameras though. If they are not straight, then they have wider openings at the other end! (more light in, better picture) And in this kind of recording, you also need a sound-boom person (a mic on a boom he is holding over from a distance, out-of-picture) Brick-on!

Sorry, but that's how forums work - and I'm actually (as a rather new user here) happy to see others bump old threads with cool builds in, that I would otherwise hardly see.. If it's so hard to see old threads active again, then the forum admin should archive them after some time, and you can then ignore the 'archive' subfolder.. but that would be sort of silly, if you ask me.. ;-)

Looking awesome! Gonna be fun to see it drive up that forest... ;-)
