Android Game I've Developed - Feedback Appreciated
Vorkosigan posted a topic in Culture & Multimedia
Around Christmas I began working on an Android game for fun. I had what I thought was a fairly novel variation on a classic concept, but since then I've found that there are already quite a few hexagon matching games. Nevertheless I went ahead with my game for fun and to see if I can't make something that delivers a worthwhile experience apart from its competitors. The concept is simple, you have various clusters of hexagons to be placed on a board, and you need to make lines. Below are the different shapes: The lines must touch the side and be at least 6 hex long, and can be in either diagonal direction or horizontal. There are two modes, Normal starts with a blank board and Hard starts with it partially filled with random colors. The colors don't have any significance at this point other than to highlight the different categories of shapes, and that dark gray is an empty position. I know my graphics are very simple, but I consider that a minimalist style. Which is not to say that it couldn't be improved. I have ideas for some other game modes but I have just published a basic version so far. Here is a screenshot of gameplay where two lines forming an X are cleared at once: Here is a link to the app if anyone wants to try it out. Its free but there are some small ads. I'd appreciate feedback, thanks! https://play.google....heximov.hexavex Also here is a video: -
What is a good price per pound for unused LEGO?
Vorkosigan replied to Dryroasted's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Depending what you have various targeted lots may work well on ebay. For example groups based on color, or certain categories of shape for more specialized items. If your inventory is very diverse (such as mainly sourced from sets vs PAB), this will be harder. You could also try themes, like star wars relevant parts, city relevant parts, etc. -

My prize arrived today, all the way from Singapore! I got a Jewel Thief, one I don't have and a nice figure. Thanks again! -

Excellent MOC! Very cozy and a great level of detail. Thanks for sharing. -
You can fill PAB cups with PAM parts at every store I've been to (US based).

Ok so I was at the Mayfair, WI LEGO store on Thursday and they definitely had quite a few if not all of the butterfly pieces out on the wall. I didn't actually look at what the PAM containers showed for the active models. There were at least the 1x4 and 1x1 light bley bricks with studs, the levers, the magenta slopes, the white bows, the azure plates, and the pink 1x1 rounds. Note I said 1x1 light bley with 1 stud on the side, which I think it was it shows on that picture of the PAM as well (not 1x2). I was happy to load up on those light bley bricks with studs.

Hint lab - 3D printed jewelry made for Lego Bricks
Vorkosigan replied to leoparder's topic in Community
Cool idea, I think it would work well with some trans cheese slopes and the new 1x1 pyramid pieces. To me the price is a bit too much, it would be more appealing at about half that. -
I had a feeling you wouldn't like it For the door dark green would be another good option that would be colorful without clashing. We'll have to agree to disagree on the rocks, I get what you're saying conceptually but it doesn't work for me. I agree that the cellar is not ideal, what I would really like is the original doors in brown, but they don't exist yet.

Inconsistency with Power Functions order accuracy
Vorkosigan replied to ProducePrincess's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I had a case where I ordered 3 sets, 1 was correct and 2 were random other sets (of similar sizes). They required me to send back the incorrect sets. I'm guessing they do that mostly to avoid people scamming them by claiming they got the wrong item. -
I de-lavendered Starlight Inn. The door really bothered me.

Red Eared Devil AKA Nexo Faun:

They look much better in these pictures than what I'd seen previously. I didn't realize the lava balls are new pieces that split vertically instead of horizontally. The rubber band powered mechanisms to break them in half are pretty neat. I wasn't originally intending to but I might be tempted to pick up one of these sets.

Medieval Village 10193 - still worth it?
Vorkosigan replied to LudeBene's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
One interesting thing about 10193, which could be a pro or a con depending how you look at it: it doesn't have numbered bags. It gives a more oldschool feel, but with 1600 pieces it can be a lot to look through. You need a good supply of trays or bowls to pour the parts into. -
Medieval Village 10193 - still worth it?
Vorkosigan replied to LudeBene's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I would vote for buying 10193, if you love medieval settings its a must have. At this time 10193 sells for about the same or a little less than the last castle 70404 (in the US on ebay). 10193 is a much better choice because its unique. 70404 is a fine set in my opinion but not worth the current inflation. 10223 Kingdoms Joust sells for less than those two, it hasn't inflated as much yet and is also very well worth it. Although I have lamented missing out on the main run of Kingdoms and I had to buy the MMV at somewhat inflated prices, I am very glad that I got to buy all of the Castle 2013 sets on discount, and Kingdoms Joust at normal price. Now is a tougher time for castle fans getting back into LEGO. Elves does have a lot of great elements though no minifigs, and Nexo Knights is a good source for fantasy villains. -
[MOC] The Master Sword Clearing - Legend of Zelda
Vorkosigan replied to Vorkosigan's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
All parts are LEGO but I used 6 custom stickers: the shield, 4 diamond shapes on the platform, and text on the plinth. -
Its over. And no it was never on the website. The good Walmart clearances are store specific and in store only, and come and go very fast. This was because of the reset to bring out summer items. The LEGO sets that had previously been in clearance at 20% off in my store were all gone by the time I got there, given most things were 75 to 90% off its likely there were some great deals to be had. But its hard to catch Walmart's extreme clearances because they don't care to publicize them, they are very store specific, and they happen in a flash when the store is ready to move in new seasonal items.

Thanks for this, that is a baffling set, everything is so simplified. The problem with threads like this is that some people are not satisfied with just having a chuckle at blunders like Galidor and oversimplified 2000 era town, but instead have to pick on their pet peeves and recent disappointments. To me this just leads to bickering and is not really good for the forum's sense of community.

Why not build it straight but mount it at an angle relative to the ground, using just a few studs to connect as feasible and tiles to support the rest.

Interesting list. Although the report only says that the theme is "off to a good start," this video is very positive about Elves, with the CEO saying "we had ourselves massive success with the introduction of LEGO Elves." http://money.cnn.com...ego-toys-sales/
-
Interesting note for Elves fans, in this video interview with LEGO CEO about their profit release for 2015 he mentions that "we had ourselves massive success with the introduction of LEGO Elves." http://money.cnn.com/2016/03/01/news/companies/lego-toys-sales/ So its likely that there will be more waves in 2017.

Wow, packing such good RC function into a model this scale is amazing. And the fact that you got a picture of it with the real bus is icing on the cake!
