  1. I picked up some of these 50% off, again anecdotal but they seemed to be heavily discounted. I thought the good guys were nice but didn't care for the bugs at all. I'd prefer a more civilian space, or at least one with humans on both sides of the conflict. If they give us humanoid aliens, I'd like to see them represented as more equal, not just evil. As Artanis I mentioned the bug based sets seemed to sell especially poorly.
  2. Thanks everyone for the many kind comments! Sorry there is not much to the dungeon, just some jail doors into bare cells. I should've thought about building a hinged wall or something and made a complete cell. They were on the PaB wall at one time, they're good for studded wood although I want to get some more of the new pyramid 1x1s.
  3. Yea as others have mentioned a good light is key, and having a couple reference pieces for comparison. Daylight LED bulbs work well for me but some are marketed as "full spectrum" which may help. I'm intending to do the opposite soon, strip the remaining "old gray" from my sorting system into a segregated box to free up space and avoid confusion. I very rarely use old gray in MOCs.
  4. Amazing work! This must have taken quite a while. My favorites are 10, 13, and 20.
  5. No. Pick a Brick does, Bricks and Pieces doesn't.
  6. Can anyone identify what the color on all the right side is? I think it might be just yellowed classic blue, but the color is so consistent all over. It looks more significantly different in person. Here's another clue, after I took the top picture when I disassembled the pieces the 4x6 plate shattered. It was like plaster it was so brittle. Maybe some older plastic?
  7. So I felt pretty good about the summer wave hitting June 1st in the US but it doesn't look like its going to happen. There's no units showing quantities in Target's inventory checker and the set listings aren't on the US S@H. Its a bummer because I wanted to get the park statue giveaway. The question is, will it be July, August like the toy fair said, or some random date like the City sets that came out May 22nd?
  8. Awesome build and great description! I like the decorated game base too.
  9. I've seen some version of that before, the incredibly rough Merlok 2.0 sketch always cracks me up.
  10. Its a nice looking skirt, but I'm not sure people will be too keen on needing to take the legs off and put them on new hip joints even if its fairly safe.
  11. Very cool, matches the show nicely! Minor comment, on one of your picture links you say Hank, shouldn't that be Walt?
  12. For $1000 I think you're better off buying the base mindstorms set and a combination of some larger technic sets, classic brick boxes, and baseplates. With the education sets you pay a lot for the teaching materials and those kits have solar panels and fan blades that add cost and probably aren't what you need (unless you want those).
  13. Absolute cheapest is garage sales and flea markets, I've gotten great lots of near complete sets with figures for $1 or $2 a pound. But as others have pointed out its often more about getting the right parts than getting bulk, especially as you build up your collection. Don't rule out new sets, I find that its usually better to get what I really want than just getting something cheap.
  14. Yes, based on the previous two of this style promo (and most GWP).
  15. Huh? Did you read the text, it says TLG sent those parts to be reviewed. What does lug bulk have to do with it? My understanding is it takes quite a bit longer than that to get LUG bulk parts anyway.
  16. Welp, looks like I'll be placing big orders at S@H in both June and July. Nice promo! I missed out on the pirates one, but I'm only a middling pirates fan. Space and Castle are good enough.
  17. Cool mechs! NPU especially the bike helmet.
  18. The river gate was built to tax the merchants who traveled the river through the mountain and into the kingdom. All who pass must pay their tribute or end up imprisoned under the mountain. On the bottom left is the treasury. On the right are the dark cells for those who fail to pay or try to smuggle. Up above the tax is levied. Interior upper floor left - armory and small practice area. Connected to the interior of the mountain by a stairway. Interior bottom left - goods confiscated or accepted in lieu of gold. An entrance into the prison area of the mountain is guarded. Interior upper right - guards eat, drink, and relax after their shift. Interior bottom right - the guards' quarters.
  19. I got some of those brown horses at the Schaumburg Illinois store during Brickworld 2015. It was a good deal but they are tricky to pack. I didn't realize the new horses have been so neglected in sets though.
  20. Have you guys seen the Minecraft set "The Fortress": Honestly all these not-castle castles are a bit depressing to me. Its got a brick built horse and sheep so fans of the yellow castle should be happy right ? If this was like $60 I might buy it for parts but at $110 MSRP its unlikely to get that low.
  21. Um, what about Elves. Nexo Knights are coming out in June though.
  22. Nice build! I like the rounded wall the bricks with axle hole are especially effective as decoration. I also think the worn grass effect is well done.
  23. While a fair point, I'm only interested in the bad guy soldiers so I'm glad they released the battle packs.
