  1. This is a really nice introduction moc - the stark landscape suits the somber tone of the story. The snowy hill is nicely elevated and contoured, the only part that sticks out is the very regular plate steps up from the front lefthand corner. The small tree and bush provide some much needed contrast and work well. I do feel that the back lefthand corner is crying out for something extra tho - some rockwork perhaps or a small frozen spring? I'd love to see some more photo angles too. UoP +1 for the snow landscape and minifig posing - technically i was on the fence about how sparse everything is, but i was swayed by the undeniable emotional power in the scene. Nice work!
  2. Thanks mccoyed, i'm glad you like my build. Thanks heaps Kai! Yeah, feels nice to get a few more credits under my belt.. (Gosh i'm so far behind some of the other UoP students now! Better build some more i guess.) Thanks again Hammerhand. Yeah, sometimes i wonder what i'm doing too, but i just can't seem to let a build go until i've got it exactly how i want it... ugh, perfectionism. Good thing i'm already insane i guess!
  3. The shields are Brick TW customs - i bought them in black and hand painted the silver bits. The chrome helms and swords are Brick TW as well. They are really nice accessories, high quality although the helms can get a bit tight.
  4. Peregrinus declares for Dugal! Calling upon our own forces, as well as those of our close allies, we were able to raise the following troops: Zaid Parsel, a local warlord of the foothills in the southern Rakath mountains, came into contact with Lord Sansael during a trip to Petraea. The two formed a strong friendship, and Lord Sansael has convinced Zaid of the need to counter the growing threat that Petera poses. Zaid now travels to aid Dugal with his bodyguard and three desert lancers. Zaid will retreat if defeated, but the rest of his troops will fight to the death. From Peregrinus, Lord Sansael sends four of his elite household guard, led by the centuar champion and heroine, Phrixelle. Phixelle's axe is enchanted to never miss it's target, but it may be blocked or parried for greatly reduced damage. She will fight to the end with the rest of the guard, but i would prefer that she fall wounded rather than be killed, should it come to that. The household guard are ably supported by a detachment of expert marksmen, all bearing various refinements of the "Evergold archery system" bows. (The rate of fire of these marksmen is slower than regular archers due to aiming and calibration, but thier range, accuracy and damage is much greater.) They are accompanied by Nammuat, an experienced mage and battle healer, who will cast both offensive and healing spells. Nammuat will teleport to safety if defeated, the others will fight to the end with daggers if overrun. (Note: Bow design second from the far right is by Siercon and Coral - such a cool design!) Finally, Lord Sansael has managed to procure the services of the dreaded Rakath assasians, who send five of their shadowstep warriors. These stealth fighters work best at infiltrating enemy lines to cause havoc and take out high value targets. All will fight to the death. Note: No worries if you want to put these troops on unrepresented flanks or put placeholder figs if you can't recreate them, i know i've put a few custom accessories in there which might get a bit hard/expensive to track down. I couldn't resist cracking out the chrome gear though!
  5. A super ship - she really looks the business! Lovely work with all the detailing and the old Norse name suits it well.
  6. Nice to see some different types of water craft. She's got a suitably aggressive profile for a raider, and the addition of a bastilla beefs it up a bit too. I do wish your main photo was a bit brighter though, makes it hard to see everything in overview. Anyway, congrats on building your first boat - nice work!
  7. Lovely clean build HammerBro, this is a sweet looking river barge. Your figs look very smart too. Not entirly sure about the antler sticking out of the dragon head prow though... makes it look like he needs a hanky or something...
  8. Such an awesome little build! Those cute mixel eyes work a treat. Belated congrats on being frontpaged!
  9. Nice little ship qiadris! I like the unconventional colour scheme and the shape of the bow, especially the use of the PoP arches near the waterline. Medieval cogs often had those square-looking forecastles. However the side of the hull and stern could use some refinement. Using inverted slopes as robuko suggests is the easiest way to get a more natural rounded shape to the hull, 45 degree inv. slopes work well on the sides and taller slopes or half-arches work well at the back to give some clearance for the rudder. A quick look through some of the brick built hulls on the pirates forum or flickr groups that concentrate on ships will give you some good ideas for hull shaping.
  10. Wowzers, this is massive! I love seeing ambition in a build and this is full of ambitious ideas and execution. That main gate is ridiculously huge, it looks so impressive but imagine it would be hard to fit doors onto to keep intruders out! I love the way that all the houses hug the walls and cliffs - looks very much how i see parts of Berigora in my mind. The variety of rooflines that you have going on is top-notch too. And all the little details are so cool - the birds flying about, the sculptor chipping away at the statue, the crowded marketplace. Certianly there are sections that could use a bit more polish or realism, but overall it just works so well. Just out of interest, where exactly is Edervisk located?
  11. This is a very pleasing structure, the layout is very well thought out. I do like the little rooftop courtyard, and the scene with the cat stalking the chickens is a nice touch too! (Nice to see the back of the build is not forgotten) You've got some great suggestions already about little things you can do to improve your build - i agree that the upstairs windows would look better centered (and perhaps given a windowsill?) and shutters on the horse stalls would look really cool. UoP +1 for the interior design and city life - great work on both of those!
  12. Thanks Gideon, that means a lot! Hey, was it you that posted those reference pics of middle eastern boats in the Kaliphlin thread a while back? I must say they were very helpful during this build - i worked from them heaps. Thanks so much Sigolf, glad you like it! Thanks robuko! The waves are kind of balanced on a seesaw plank, and i've run axles underneath the waves to one end of the seesaw, with a 1x2 liftarm directly underneath the plank to lift it up with each rotation. Really simple stuff, but that's about the level of my technic expertise at the moment, heh! I'm not too happy with the speed of the rocking, i'd prefer it to be smoother, but that's something to experiment with on another build i guess. I've heard worm gears are good at slowing down axle rotation a lot - linear actuators also came to mind but there wasn't much room for them. So, when can we expect your next ship?? Aw thanks Kabel! There is another month to go though, i'm sure there are heaps more sweet ships on the GNAR horizon. Thanks Gedren! Thanks peeps for your kind words! Cheers Rolli! Do it mate, steal away, it's what it's there for. Aw thanks Ska! Yeah, some of the panels are a little fragile as i'm sure you can imagine. Thanks Terilien! The ship is built on a spine with a solid, studs up stern base and a few studs up "ribs" on the sides. I then captive built between the ribs and used flex tubing and clips/plates to shape the bow. The bulging parts of the stern castle is held together with clip/bars and hinges. Thanks Kayne! Yes, it's going to be great to see all of the entries side by side at the end of the challenge! Quite a fleet. Cheers Tomsche! Yep she's not a greyhound, but she's no slouch either. Aw thanks deGothia, this was a fun build for sure. Yes, build more ships! Still another month of the challenge to go... Thanks very much Gunman. Thanks heaps fellas for the kind words!
  13. Thankyou kindly, glad you like it! It feels good to be able to contribute another ship to the Kaliphlin fleet. Thanks Hammerbro, i had a lot of fun building this one!
  14. I'd like to apply for the following credits please for my build The Wayfarer : Trade/Law - Shipping by water Hydrology - Waves Life in Kaliphlin Thanks!
  15. Damn robuko, that is some army! I'll have to muster my troops tomorrow. (I won't be supplying as many as that though - PGTC business must be booming!)
  16. Here is my entry for Kaliphlin in the merchant marine category: The Wayfarer
  17. My merchant marine GNAR entry is finished, huzzah! Now to get onto my warship. Click the image below to get to the topic. I'm also applying from some UoP credits for this build: Trade/Law - Shipping by water Hydrology - Waves Life in Kaliphlin Thanks peeps!
  18. This is my entry in the "Merchant Marine" category of GNAR. I am also applying for UoP credit for the following units: Hydrology-waves, Trade/Law-Shipping by water and Life in Kaliphlin. The Wayfarer is a standard Peregrinian merchant ship, built for long voyages over ocean waters. She and others like her are mainly used for trade or exploration, but are also suitable for conscription into the Kailphlin navy in times of war. Their hardiness and generous hold make them ideal for use as troop carriers or support ships. Due to the recent instability in Historica, all Peregrinian merchant-class ships have had thier bows reinforced for use in ramming and boarding, and armed guards are more frequently present during trade voyages. A closer look at the bow section, with the main below-decks storage hatch and anchor winch. The ship's cat makes sure that any stowaway pests don't eat into the consumables on board! A closer look at the stern area, with lifeboat, unimpressed swabbie, cabin entrance and wheelhouse deck. (The wheelhouse deck also doubles as a useful vantage point for archers during a battle) I also tried to include some power functions in my build. Initially i tried making the whole ship rock back and forth, but that was a bit of a disaster. I then went for the simpler option of making sections of the waves move. You can see a short video of the waves in motion on my Flickr. (Sorry, i couldn't work out how to embed the video here. If anyone knows, can they please enlighten me? ) Hope you have enjoyed looking at my build peeps! C and c welcome as always.
  19. I have to be honest here and say that this looks more like a WIP or a tablescrap than a finished moc. The unfinshed look to the sides is really glaring and the stage looks too small for the cart - the wheels almost look as though they are falling off the back of the plate. The best part is the bird - that's quite a nice design, though it'd look better with the clips in black. You've made some promising mocs like the archway and cart in your sigfig backstory or your jetty cottage, it's just a little sad that this one doesn't deliver to that standard. But if you are patient and work more into your mocs, i'm sure we will see your best work in the future.
  20. My condolences NM on that sad news, i hope you and yr Mum are doing ok. Well yeah... about that.. I went back and tried to make it work again, it still sticks a lot and i couldn't slow the gears as much as i would have liked (maybe should have tried to use worm gears..) but it's done at last. Photos tomorrow if i can get this rubbish computer to do what i ask of it. So that'll be one more Kali ship for the GNAR challenge!
  21. Wonderful irregular base, the vegetation looks great and i like the look of those hero factory parts too. Where is the Kaumatua Valley, for further reference? On Gorr or somewhere close? (I couldn't find any info on the maps or in the wiki)
  22. Now that's a palm tree! Nice little vig, i always did like that scroll design. Not so sure about the 1x2 sand green plates scattered in the prickle bush though, they stick out a bit.
  23. The log cabin build is great Garmadon, although it does look a little cramped for the horse! UoP +1 for the technique though. The dense foliage ground cover works well, although i agree with deGothia that a little path leading to the cabin would look good too. Also, don't forget to add little embellishments where you can to add more interest and detail - maybe a sign showing that this is a stables, or a pitchfork and bucket outside, or pegs to store riding tack etc.
  24. Sweet battle scene Gideon! Perfect strategy against the more heavily armoured foe. I really like your landscaping too, sets the scene nicely.
  25. A very nice looking castle Soccerkid, although some of the walls are a bit too uniform in some places and i'm really not sure about the line of technic beams. You could have added a plate's height line of red as an accent colour to break up the flat blue, or perhaps use blue invert slopes to create an overhang above the main gate? The recessed windows are quite nice and the landscaping works well to soften the stark use of primary colour. I'm not sure if you still need a UoP +1 for the desert landscaping (you are good for Life in Kali) so i'll give you that - there isn't much of it and i wish you'd included more, but what you have done is varied and well textured.
