  1. Nice, solid-looking tower DaF! It's cool to see the opening panels at the back - you might want to include them in your EB post so ppl don't have to go over to Flickr to look at them. The rockwork up the right side of the building looks great too. I don't mind the studded stairs myself - makes a good visual contrast to the smooth walls. You could break up the regularity of the studs there with a few 1x1 or 1x2 tiles i guess. Looking forward to hear of Illarix and Udo's coming adventures!
  2. Thanks rogueang! Sorry to disappoint, but the ship does have some pre-fab hull parts - the viking ship one at the back and three ship bases for the middle section. (partly for stability, as it has to withstand transport to a show later in the month) But it's nice to know that those parts are not too obvious in the model. The studs-out thing at the bow was partly a deliberate choice - i had a very specific shape in mind to achieve and in places even a tiles difference in height would have ruined that, but also i am a fan of the studs-out look. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
  3. Wow ME, your towers are great and a worthy focus to the composition, but the landscaping here really steals the show! I'm a huge fan of realistic landscaping with decent height changes (too often lego landscapes look too flat to me), and this is a stunner. No disrespect to your wife, but boring it most certainly is not! I'll be back to study this lovely rockwork again for sure.
  4. Excellent entry SK! The landscaping is top notch and the battle scene is very exciting. Great work with all the detail shots of the action!
  5. Great build Infernum! The landscaping in particular is naturalistic and well textured. The house is very well constructed too, although i agree with Emma that you may have slightly overdone it with the 2x2 round tiles. Lovely crisp pics too, nice work!
  6. Very cool ship Infernum! Some great techniques on display here, the planked hull and snotted deck immediately stand out. I really like the chain rigging and use of the chairs on the side as well. Sorry to hear your nice model got smashed though...!
  7. Great ship Thomas, you've got a nice line with the bow and the middle section, and lots of cool little touches too. I especially like the oar ports, the wooden pallisade with the sheilds, the Baquan fire system and the pizza oven (why didn't i think to put one of those on my ship? Genius...! ) I like the stern section too, but it's execution is a bit boxy and has a somewhat unfinished look - and i'm not sure how ppl get up to the wheeldeck, it's so high and i can't see any stairs or hatch? I also might have made the masts a few bricks taller as well. For UoP credits, i am totes happy to give you shipping by sea and minifig posing. Waves i am really conflicted about. On the one hand, the effect is really nice and has a degree of naturalism that is often lacking in lego waves, on the other hand, i personally find scattered lego elements a bit of a cheat, despite it's widespread use as a technique. For me i think the deciding factor is the use of the rumpled sheet - it seems that the water effect relies at least as much upon that as it does the elements themselves, and because of this i'm going to encourage you to try again for this credit. Judging by the effect here you certainly have a good grasp of water behaviour and mechanics, so this shouldn't be too much of a problem for you!
  8. Fabulous! Just amazing to see it all together. The two castles are both equally imposing in thier different styles, and the battle scene in between them is filled with drama. So much to come back and look at again and again... Congrats on producing such a wonderful collab!
  9. Genius build Torgar, love it! The rockwork base leading up to the fortress is just stunning, almost Escheresque with the spiralling pathway. The tower itself is amazing too and ah, that raven!
  10. Nice little ship Carson, good work on the brick-built hull! The water effect and ruin on the rocky outcrop add a lot to the scene as well. UoP +1 on waves, although i find that using slopes for waves works better with covering larger areas, or showing more dramatic gradients of water movement.
  11. Very spooky ship Gilbert! The brickbuilt hull has some lovely angles and the white detailling along the sides looks a treat too. The shaping is so nice, i really feel the lack of rigging to complete the ship. But this is very nice given the time constraints you were under!
  12. Nice buildings and army, Damaximus! I have a couple of questions tho - who are the Amenorians, and why are you in your pj's? That doesn't look like a comfortable place to sleep!
  13. Very nice profile on your ship, Garmadon! I find it interesting that you've chosen to place the ship with all that space behind her on the base - it gives the sense that she is gently drifting along in almost becalmed waters. (Looks a little spooky actually, especially in the low light) I look forward to seeing your improved pictures!
  14. Oh man, this is just superb! Epic castle Z. I love it all - the snotted tan path, the stunning red roofs, the lovely wooden tudor-style tower top with the walkway to the rest of the castle, the dragon ornamentation - all of it is perfect. Great mix of vegetation too!
  15. Thankyou, glad you like it! Cheers! Thanks heaps Ska, gotta keep the Kaliphlin colours flying! (in the wrong direction tho, as pointed out before, lol)
  16. Ah, this is a great improvement on the original, much more cohesive and detailed architecture and rockwork. (though there are a couple of half-pushed down plates that niggle at me) The interiors are sweet too, love the huge training room! Your photos are much improved from the original as well. Thanks for sharing this excellent update!
  17. Nice ship Janatale, I especially like the figurehead, sloped sides and brick-built sail. I'm with Kabel though, a pic of the ship on it's own would be really good - it's hard to see the detail in those pulled back photos and half your crew are covering the side of the hull in your first pic. I really like your presentation too, with the rescue story. I love the idea of the Mitgardian Walrus's - i'm sure they skinny-dip in trenches cut in the ice on their days off, just like their Russian counterparts!
  18. Really nice building Kabel! The white gothic half-arches look great and so does the half-timbering and that lovely red roof. The only thing that looks a bit out of place is the roof end (rake) - it just seems a little plain and unfinished for such an important-looking building. Nice to see Albion getting out and about in Thorshaven!
  19. Great progress you are making with this Hammerhand! I really like seeing the progression and all the changes from your original WIP. Looks so much smoother now with some very natural looking transitions. Looking forward to seeing the finished ship!
  20. Thankyou very much Robuko, Damaximus (hihi! Good to see you on GoH again! ), Brother Steven and Davidbarrena - i really appreciate all your kind praise and encouragement. Thanks Hawkman! No need at all to apologise - i always like to have some context for my ships, i don't think they look half as good without some water surrounding them. Making the water in this way is probably the easiest, especially for large areas. The hardest part is amassing enough blue plate, brick and slopes to work with... No worries, you should be able to find it in any arts supplies store, many places sell it by the metre. Habadashery shops sell it too, but you need to check it's the right weight for painting on - often what they call cotton duck is too thin. Thankyou kindly mrcp6d! The whole thing rests on a 48 x 96 stud base, so quite obviously not a SHIP - closer inspection reveals that it is precisely 89 studs from the tip of the ram to the end of the stern.
  21. I don't know of one, but apparently the current Korean LEGO Ambassador is Kim Sung-Wan from BrickInside - maybe get in touch with them? Good to see you back DaMaximus! Look forward to seeing your mocs again! Nice watchtower! Yeah, good pics and a seperate thread sounds like the next logical step.
  22. This short article is a reasonable definition of LUGbulk and how it operates. For additional information, i would contact either a LEGO ambassador or your local LUG. Stuff we are not allowed to discuss are the specifics of our orders and in particular, the prices paid, but i think you can figure out for yourself that it's a worthwhile thing to investigate!
  23. Sweet build Z, love the spider! The story is great too, can't wait to read the next installment. A question tho - what are the three open studs on the left hand border for? They look curiously out of place.
  24. Well, our LUGbulk orders should be arriving soon - i'm just waiting for that!
  25. Yeah, i remember that feeling all too well! I've only recently managed to train myself out of the habit of breaking all my previous sets and mocs down just so i know i have enough to build with.
