Lovely, Gideon! The chrome gold and pearl gold look really nice together, and the macaroni brick works well as curved wall. My fav view is definitely the last one, with the slight view of the river and bridges. +1 for UoP microscale for sure!

Thanks gedren, i just put in a claim for a brick built animal - was considering for the trees as well, but they are pretty ordinary so i decided against it. Thanks! Yeah, his front is definitely his best side! Thanks for your kind words Yeti! Yeah, the blue gradient background is meant to show the darkening of the sky at dusk. I'm a bit sad that i didn't have any plates in those colours to soften the horizontal lines a bit, but oh well. I thought about throwing some pink or even that new light yellow in there too, but decided that might make it look even more confusing! Heh yeah they do look a bit spindly, don't they? I was taking a bit of inspiration from drawings of chinese dragons, that have more emphisis on the sinuous body and less on heavy, weight bearing limbs, so maybe that's why they ended up that way. Cheers Gideon, glad you like it! Thankyou! Thanks Soccerkid! Yeah i was pretty pleased to see how nicely the bones fitted and looked there - i think it's my fav element of the build.

REVIEW: 71004 LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series
Gabe replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wonderful review WhiteFang, great to get an early look at these. As far as the series goes though, it's a bit sad. Only a few figs that i 'm hanging out for and i'll only want one of each. That distribution is pretty wrongtown as well - 6 figs at only 2 a box??- 131 replies

Very very late but hopefully this is proof of life before the deadline for the comp? (If it's ok i'll replace these shockers with better pics tomorrow - i only had indoor light tonight - edit: better pics posted now!) Illustration for the dragon card showing a rare Kaliphlin sand dragon... the card traditionally means great fortune, whether the fortune is good or bad depends whether the card is inverted in the deck or not. Yes i trespassed slightly over the 10 stud square limit with tree and sand overhang. Hopefully it's not too much against the spirit of the rules but if it is i'll cop the DQ on the chin. (I just couldn't resist embellishing!) A couple of closer pics of the head and back of the sand dragon, for those that are interested. A bit of a crop to show how it would look on a card. Well, that's it, short and sweet. Sorry Ska that i couldn't get anything else built for what was a very intriguing comp premise. I had some more ideas for other cards but sadly the end of the month snuck up on me. Anyway, i hope you guys like what i have done - thanks for looking! Ps. I'd also like to claim for a UoP credit for a brick-built animal, please!

You certainly have a talent for making clean, appealing mocs - this is prob my favourite of yours! You already have some good advice about introducing more subtle gradations in the earthen river bank, and also putting more movement into the water around the base of the waterfall. I also agree with DeGothia that a border would really improve your presentation on this one. (if you are having problems attaching it, you can simply butt a simple border up against the sides of the moc instead.) Anyway, despite the lack of water movement at the base of the waterfall, i'm really liking the hight and overall layout of this one, so definitely a UP +1 for waterfalls from me!

Collecting the pieces - Alexander Vandagant's search

I really like the collapsed ruins, slowing sinking into the surrounding landscape - the perfect picture of slow decay. I wasn't so sure about the way the flasks were strewn about though - my first thought was that some nearby orcs had been having a party and left thier empty tinnies lying about! Maybe if you had shown a half demolished cabinet or something, some of the flasks spilling from it etc, it would make the story a bit clearer. Certainly +1 for the dense ground foliage, very nicely done! However i'd like to see something a little more complex attempted for the tree. -
Nice little vege plot and i like the low ruined wall as well - simple but effective. I do agree with Thomas about the windows though, some shutters or curtains would help a lot. +1 for the crop farming credit.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gabe replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Ah ok, no worries. Well at least we have a way to jump to the uni topics if they get shunted - good to know! Haha umm... yeah, i'm getting my building skates on as we speak! Such a busy time of the year tho... Totally agree. The main UP claims thread is the one i'll be watching, anything not on there certainly runs the risk of getting missed. Yes please! The tracking thread is only for your own progress through the units, the claims thread is to let the reveiwers know what to assess. -
There were? Aw that's sad, i couldn't see them in the pics that you supplied. Maybe with pics showing the sides of the cabin i would re-consider my vote. Certainly it's important to clearly show the elements that you want credit for!

Ooh thanks gedren for catching those, i must have been pretty tired when i posted last night! Although i'm still a bit confused by what exactly we are voting on in wedge's mocs - i can't see them in the claims thread and (as far as i can see) he hasn't asked for credit in the moc threads either?? Great idea about stickying the claim and tracking threads too - i'm guessing we need to ask Zcerb or rogueang (as history mods) to make this happen? -
So amazing. All the subtle angles in this just blow me away. The texturing is supurb as well, and your crest is a great touch! Best of luck in the ccc!

Nice tower Taz! I was about to write that i'd used the round tower technique with 1x1 rounds and 1x2 plates, but then realised that you were talking about with the 1x2 plates alone... that is something i've not seen before. Interesting way to get tighter diameters - how small can you make them?
-
Ahh, this is so great, love the sinuous curves of the dragon's head and tail contrasting with the jagged rocks. The eyes are especially cool. Your presentation is amazing too.. that card version is stunning! I'm planning to do a dragon/serpent card as well... damn i'll have to get my skates on now!

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gabe replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Hey guildies, sorry for taking a step back for a couple of weeks - i've just caught up on a few mocs that still need grading for UP certification. A couple still need a vote or two (or three!), i'll list them here for ease of tracking them down: mrcp6d - Retreving blue stinger wings - needs 2 votes (for big tree only) mrcp6d - Mage's barracks - needs 1 vote (1 against 1x1 walls) Soccerkid - Nordhiem village - needs 3 votes Tomsche - AoM storehouse - needs 3 votes (1 against) Format is builder - title of moc - current status as of this post. I'm wondering if we should make a weekly "to be graded" post in here for UP stuff, so mocs don't get missed with one vote to go or anything. i'm happy to do this for the next month or two, but maybe we could take it in turns to do this if others are happy to? After all, the quicker stuff gets voted on, the more confidence students will have in the program. Oh and welcome to our new members, yay! JVD, i loved your character intro! I look forward to hearing more about Nahoj and how he's settling into life in Kaliphlin. -
Brrr! Only two sides and a roof constitutes a cabin in Mitgardia?? Certainly you guys and gals do it tough up north! I like the snow effects that you have used in this small moc, especially the sliding snow on the roof. However, i'd like to see a more complete roof before giving you a UP plus for the roofing technique - it bugs me that the ends are open the way that they are. A simple way that you can get around this is to add solid wall ends to extend above the roofline at either end.
-
Very cool build Soccerkid! I love the rural feel to it. The different facades of the houses gives a lot of interest to what could easily have looked quite bland (due to the walls being almost exclusively the one colour). The roof ends look great and you could easily have claimed for roof rake on this. The piled snow around the paths leading to the central well look really organic and believable as well, and the interiors are full of lovely details. UP: +1 for wooden walls and village life. ps. Good luck with the ccc!

UP grading: +1 for the roof rake, the stunted tree and the mountains/cliff scene. As far as the 1x1 walls are concerned, i'd like to see you incorporate the technique to include other features like windows, door lintels and the like - this seems a little too sparsely used to indicate mastery. I think what you have done with it here is integrated harmoniously, but i'd just like to see a little more of it. The snow covered cliffs do frame the scene nicely though, with the angled placement of the small hut softening the corner there. I like the action filled stage too. I am intruiged by the little entrance into the cliff as well, although it kinda bugs me that the interior is the same white as the background!
-
Sorry for the bump but i just wanted to complete the UP grading for this Moc... +1 for studs up rocks and waterfall. Although i do agree with gideon about the waterfall looking a bit odd, but for different reasons - it looks frozen at the top and flowing at the bottom! I'm guessing the water comes out of some fissure in the cliff but it would be nice to see that shown a bit more clearly. But that aside, this is a lovely clean build with undeniable aesthetic appeal. I especially like the little scene of the soldiers' building the walls on the right.

I'll certainly give you +1 for the large tree - would give you a cert for the small pines as well, but you can only claim 4 adv. placement credits in total.
