Small Technic Sets - Your Favorite ?
Tomik replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My favorite small set si buggy 8048. -
I'm back with another alternative model of animal. This time it's Great White Shark built out of set 31045. It features opening maw and moving fins and tail. I've used left over parts to build some kind of tropical fish and diver. So who is going to be shark's dinner today? Short story Diver: "Awesome, I've discovered new species of fish!" Few seconds later... Lesson from this story: Always watch your back!

WOW, this is excellent model. It looks awesome and even rides pretty fast (for LEGO model). Have you got inspiration for bodywork from McLaren P1?- 220 replies

Tips for Digital Modeling & Instructions
Tomik replied to zweihander's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I have great experience with creating instructions for Technic and I use this procedure: build physical model dismantle it in opposite order of future steps and taking pictures of each step (it's similar to what Erik Leppen spoke about just with real model and bricks) build it in CAD following pictures I took during dismantling to get correct order of steps do rest of job in LPub (rotations of view, submodels, placing on pages and so on) I still use SR 3D builder because it has the best physics for building Technic I've seen so far. I have to mention I haven't tried LDCad yet and that SR 3D Builder is officially dead since its author passed away. So SR 3D Builder misses latest parts but you can add them to your model in MLCAD later or in LPub (I use similar part instead of them during building model and later I change its "name" in LPub and sometimes adjust its orientation and possition). I use MLCad mostly just for running LSynth. If you are intersted I can show you how I use it to get best result easier. So if you are interested in anything I wrote about above don't hesitate to ask me for more information. -
Hi all, since I recieved Mindstorms EV3 set 31313 few days ago I've decided to start my first project. I call it CLEV3R CAR and as you can guess it's about car. I've just finished building it and I'm about to start programming it. So let's talk about model first. It looks like Mini Cooper, chassis is inspired by RAC3 TRUCK and I've finished it in just two days. It features two large motors for driving, medium motor for steering, IR sensor instead of radiator and rear bumper with touch sensor. I wanted to build it as small as possible but it became pretty big. I've paid attention to many details so you can easily remove EV3 brick (for example to change batteries) and there is enough space under it so you can use it with original rechargable battery as well. It's also pretty sturdy, I plan to program several modes for it: Automatic - independent driving with avoiding obstacles RC - remotely controlled from IR beacon with driving assistance (for example if you drive it against wall it will stop before it) Search for beacon - independent driving to beacon By the way does anyone have experience with programming searching for beacon? I can imagine how to do it for tank (or other tracked vehicle that can turn on the spot) but car with classic steering is something different...

[C-Model][MOC] 42008 Bus
Tomik replied to Samer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What a cool idea! I haven't seen many Technic buses. I think it's good alternative model if I consider it's your first one. -
I'd like to introduce you my latest alternative model I've built out of set 31044 (Park Animals). First of all I'd like to say something about this set. When I opened it I was surprised it doesn't contain any ordinary bricks. There are two bricks 2x1 with 2 studs on one side and lots of plates, hinges, joints and slopes. So back to my model - I've built cat and duck. Cat has many joints so you can set it into various poses. I wanted to build it mouse but I didn't have enough parts for it so I've built duck instead.

-MOC- 42039 to Buggy
Tomik replied to PaMe's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Really cute buggy especially if it's your first MOC. Keep building! -
I appreciate your interest in my RC modification of this buggy. I haven't finished LDD file for it yet and I'm too busy now so I'll begin working on it in beginning of February.

MOC concept arctic racer
Tomik replied to 9 fingers's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice vehicle - I like its shape and bodywork. I think speed is good for such a big thing. You can connect pins to tracks to get better grip. -

WeDo 2.0 - The future of PF
Tomik replied to BusterHaus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've read that new WeDo 2.0 allows to connect 3 motors / sensors together to hub but it's not true. You can still connect just 2 components at time. This was main disadvantage of first WeDo and it stays for second generation too. Anyway I like that new version is wireless and contains more parts. -

You've used interesting building techniques. I can see balloon sections for skirt, Batman's sign for eyes and so on. Good job!

[REVIEW] 42001 - Mini Off-roader
Tomik replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't like appearance of this off-roader at all but I've got it as gift so it's in my Technic collection now. When I built it I was very surprised how cool suspension it has and how much playability it features. I've also tried to build some alternative model out of it but without success. Anyway thank you Jim for great review! -
Manias in building?
Tomik replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've found many of my "manias" in previous posts and also have one that wasn't mentioned yet. I NEVER mix parts from different sets together so I keep all parts in their original sets and always building just out of one set. Only exceptions are PF parts and gears. In this case I make note what I've added to particular set and remove it during dismantling immediatelly. -
Lego Technic Desert Fox buggy
Tomik replied to filsawgood's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like your buggy - it has nice body and color scheme. Just one question - isn't it fragile? -
I think we are trying to make simple rules too complicated. It will be much more clear if we stay with one box with maximum volume 10.000 cubic studs instead of adding volumes of several boxes together. If you wanna build more models make them as big / small as they fit in this one box. I think this should be applied just for trailers or similar stuff in same way like multiple model (see above). If you allowed "unless taking off parts is done in the real world" we should accept for example taking off wheels because it can be done in real world too...

I've got an idea to build models for this contest using parts just out of one official LEGO Technic set. It will be great challenge because when I'm finish I'll get four models built out of same pile of bricks.
