  1. I admire your alternative models built out of motorbike set. I think it's pretty difficult due to limited sort of parts and just two wheels. Have you already thought about building something totally different out of it - for example helicopter, hovercraft or plane?
  2. Yes, it's difficult but if you choose right set it's not too difficult. I've already motorized in this way 3 medium-sized sets: 8437 8048 42037
  3. Thank you for your comments. I think they are blue to be easily recognised. You look at model and you can see only blue part of model and it's seat. If you had blue model then it would be probably white to get this contrast.
  4. I like your guidelines. They make sence and I kept them when I was motorizing official sets. I even added one more to make it more challenging for me: You can use just parts from set that you are motorizing and PF elements. It means no extra pins, gears, axles, connectors etc. Lately I've motorized in this way set 42037. You can see result here.
  5. I've bought PF servo motor about one year ago and I haven't got chance to test it. Then this ugly buggy 42037 appeared and I realized it's good volunteer for testing it. My goal was to make it fully remote controlled with adding just PF parts and keeping original look as much as possible. So after two days I've got this result. It's powered by one M-motor, steered by servo motor and even uglier than before. It rides well on smooth and solid surfaces but it's pretty slow on carpet. Main issue was to find room for battery box. Front of buggy is almost unchanged and rear is rebuilt much. It can still open cab and fake engine works. It lost just seat and lights. If anyone is interested I'll share its LDD file.
  6. Good alternative model and that figure is really funny.
  7. Month ago Jan Beyer challenged me to build alternative model out of Lego Friends set and this is my first attempt. I've used Heartlike lighthouse (set 41094) as donor of bricks. Carousel features 4 seats that spin around. It is also supplemented by ticket stand.
  8. WOW! This rat is awesome. It looks like alive.
  9. You've built nice alternative model out of this set with as much functionality as possible.
  10. Building instructions for mantis, Moby Dick and speedboat are already available at buildinst.
  11. Building instructions for yellow plane built out of set 42035 are already available at buildinst.
  12. Alternative model looks good but I would prefer something more original (different) like helicopter or boat. This one is just another plane...
  13. Let me introduce you real motor boat built out of set 31034 (it's not another Moby Dick this time :-) This is last generation of speedboat with hydro-jet engine. It fits to future fliers topic very well because it flies on the water. It features 2 seats on board and also 2 buoys for slalom. Notice clever SNOT technique I've used for building front of boat. It is similar to one used in official jet plane alternative model.
  14. How to introduce this model? At first I planed to build motor boat... But I wasn't satisfied with its progress so I've changed my mind and began building Moby Dick. This white sperm whale is built out of parts from set 31034 and it features openable maw, moving tail and fins. Notice how I've built eyes with help of arches and blue axle-pins. And finally I've used left over parts to build its favorite meal - giant squid.
  15. That yellow creature sitting in dog head is funny. It remembers me Men in Black. Nice alternative model.
  16. Excellent alternative model! I like that it features more functions than original models.
  17. I'd like to introduce you my first alternative models built out of set 31031 (parrot and frog). I've begun building flower and bee but prototype didn't fulfilled my expectations... ...so I decided to build something else. Since most of bricks are green I've chosen to build mantis. It features little bit of posability and XL fly similar to original one just a bit bigger.
  18. I like your review especially its intro with Marty and Doc. It is comprehensive and I think you've mentioned all important. I've already owned this set for a while so I built my own alternative model - polar bear. This set looks like the best all-purpose set in the latest years because it contains good enough parts for building almost anything.
  19. I've come back from my dark age by buying buggy 8048. It remembered me my very frist Lego set 8829 (another red buggy). I was not satisfied with official alternative model - tractor so I've decided to build motorbike similar to that one from set 8829. And this started my alternative model mania...
  20. You welcome! And now I'd like to introduce you my latest alternative model. It is plane build out of set 42035. Since this set contains lots of yellow parts I've decided to get inspiration in yellow Czechoslovakian cropduster plane Zlin Z-37 called "bumblebee". It features whirling propeller while it is moving.
  21. It's nice to see another alternative model built out of this set. Good job!
  22. Building instructions for polar bear, all three alternative models out of set 31030 and dragon out of set 31017 are already available on buildisnt. You can also download instructions for building this alternative model built out of beach house 7346.
  23. Building instructions for plane built out of set 8041 are already available on buildinst. You can also build this plane out of set 42041.
  24. Very well alternate. I own this set too and I also plan to rebuild it into motorbike. By the way how many parts from set did you use for building it? Was it at least half?
