  1. Well, I couldn't resist, my local toy store not only had 10% off, but were just putting the new 2014 sets on the shelves and the big orange white and blue box was shouting "buy me, buy me!" from its shelf. So whithout further ado here is my review of the 60036 Arctic Base Camp. Arctic Base Camp Set #: 60036 Year Released: 2014 Piece Count: 733 Minifigs: 7, plus 4 dogs, 2 fish and 1 bear RRP: $89.99, £59.99 (according to Brickset, but UK retail seems to be £69.99 at the moment). As the set is a collection of models rather than one big construction, I will break the review down per the instruction booklets before giving my overall impressions at the end. So in this post enjoy Part 1: The Box the Snowmobile and the Dogsled (the less popular rip-off of the lion, the witch and the wardrobe!) The Box: Pretty big, as you might expect for a set of this price: The front shows nicely all the models and minifigs packed into the set and everything is in full action mode hinting at the playability of this set. The base is perched at the edge of an ice shelf, with snow covered mountains in the background. Just in case we forgot this was part of the City line the logo looms above the base and there are skyscrapers on the far horizon in the top right. The back has a standard 'hey' guy, but in arctic gear showing us a few of the models and play features of the set., the left side tells us this is a numbered build with pretty much one bag per model. The bottom left corner tells us to go online to play the LEGO City game, though our arctic player is dressed a little warm for downtown; also he appears to be making off with some money being chased by the police- maybe it is only so long before we get arctic police and fire sets!? The top edge shows the 7 minifigs we get with the set along with a couple of the new huskies and polar bear. The Contents We get 8 bags, and a cardboard backed deck of instructions along with a single sticker sheet. Loose in the box is a 16x16 plate (not baseplate) and conveyor belt. Disappointingly we aren't trusted to build a conveyor belt, it comes as a permanently assembled moving POOP. As it is split into mini builds, I'm going to deal with each as it comes as I explained above. Her you can see the DSS and the instructions for build 1; the dog sled and snow-mobile. First page of the instructions gives us the open bags in order comic strip and an advert espousing the virtues of the brick separator. Random instruction shot: The pale white/blue snowscape background shows up the models well and generally colour distinction is good; though occasionally the white parts look a little bley. Despite this, with the bagged nature of the build and clear part callouts, you're pretty unlikely to be confusing parts. There are also quite a number of single part steps, so this should be easy for even the youngest lego fans to put together. The Parts (Bag 1) Already new, or at least interesting, bits everywhere, inverted 1x3 cursed slopes, new skis, 2x2 tiles with studs, the parka hood, husky, handlebar type bits and an orange brick separator. The Minifigs In this bag we get 1 male and 1 female researcher, with male and female specific torsos; note the 'hourglass' shading on the female and different pocket configuration. Both seem to have some kind of GPS, temperature sensor or stopwatch on their person- the girl's reading '4^' the guy's '3^'. The different coloured ski goggles are a nice touch, though unfortunately having printed goggles rather than a goggle piece makes these heads theme specific. Legs have various climbing gear printed on them and the rear torso has a nice mission patch. The Build and Model: Snowmobile Part way in: Here you can see the use of the SNOT tiles and inverted curves to make the model a healthy carpet-runner; an interesting step away from the usual 2x2 round dish pieces you see on most LEGO boats (and in fact on the dog-sled in this set). Bam!: Here we are, finished, and I like it. The front curves come together nicely with clever parts usage and, whilst I missed it in the unbagging, the 2x2x2/3 slope on the front is printed, yes, printed! With a friend: Let us compare him with the 1990's offering; you can see the definite 'up-scaling' from 'town' to 'city' era. Whilst the new model has no obvious drive mechanism (though chainsaws probably weren't the best or safest) the shapes possible with the new parts just make it look so much better. My only criticism of this model is the width- due to the car axle used the thing is 6-wide at the skis. Unfortunately due to how the nose is put together it wouldn't be easy to change, but I cant help but feel this might be better with the skis at 4-wide (dry test example below): The Build and Model: The Dog Sled Part way in: After the snowmobile, this disappoints slightly in being a much more traditional vertical brick-stacking affair, we also come to our first sticker- that 1x2 cheese gets a radar screen and radio handset sticker. Finished the sled: Radar you ask? Why yes, here we are with everything but the dogs and you can see a small radar dish so the driver can see everything that's forward and left of the sleigh I guess. The use of a small boat mast to build the dog harness is an interesting feature and quite inventive use of bricks. The dogs! Yes the doggies! A new mold as you can see compared to the standard City dog on the right. Although the face/ear prints are identical the coat colouring appears to be achieved by mixing plastics which gives a subtle variation between dogs and makes them appear like individuals- a nice touch whether intentional or not. Note the traditional City dog is 1 stud taller- so there can be no Disney style city dog becomes sleigh dog scenarios. Finished: As with the snowmobile the 6-wide feels a little on the large side but otherwise I can't fault it, there are lots of play features packed in with the fishing gear and radar. The dog attachments are surprisingly strong and play-able so a race between dogs and snowmobile wouldn't be a question of who falls apart first. Plus dogs, did i mention the dogs? I like the dogs! Scores for Bag 1 Parts: 9 - very good selection for such small models, Lose a point for disappointing me with a sticker after delighting me with printed parts. The figs: 9 - Very nice printing on both figs and their hoods. I don't really see the need for a feminine torso though- I doubt real arctic explorers cinch their waistbands to show of their hourglass figure (if you are an arctic explorer feel free to tell me I'm wrong). Along with the face prints which are only really good for snowy scenarios this isn't quite a perfect 10. I'm still tempted to give it a 10 just for the huskies, they are simply excellent. Build & Model(s): 8 - The builds are short but sweet, and the curves of the snowmobile were satisfying to put together. The models look good if a little wide from some angles and its a shame the snowmobile has no visible means of propulsion. Playbility: 9 - The snowmobile is pretty swoosh-able, though compared to the dog-sled is a one trick pony. The dog sled has fishing gear, a something detector/radar and dogs as well as swooshing pretty well. The separate instructions and bagging also adds to playability as kids of shorter attention span (or simply wanting to prolong fun) can build, play, pause, build more, play more etc...as I am off to now before I bring you Part 2: The Helicopter! Note : value for money score will come with an overall score once I get to the end of part 5...

The new Yoda headline is truly beautiful and continoues on the back side with dark green background, I have to say that so far this is my favourite box design. The main picture shows us the Barge in full glory flying through the sandsea of Tatooine, it’s the europian version so you can only see the set name and number. Let’s take a look at the back. As usual we see the play features in little windows and a scene where the Barge is blowing up. I really like that nowadays Lego puts pictures about the set from different viewpoints int he low right corner. On the top we can see the lineup of figures with their names and a New mark for new figs. Max is presented in real 1:1 size. The contents of the box We get seven big bags with parts, Jabba is a seperate bag, 2 tubes (one is spare). Also we get 2 thick BIs, a huge poster and the sails in a bag with a cardboard to protect them. The BI has a plain olivish-gray background. The color differentation is good but when you reach the nose and the side panels the brown colors are melting together and there were a few steps where I left out a part because it was hard to spot. Although it was easy to follow and had no problem with it. Here is the poster, it’s really huge, about 1x2 meters with a great action scene, the other side is the same as in the Republic Gunship, it shows the 2013 lineup of figures with their names and set number where they can be found. Also we get a sticker sheet which may cause mini heart attacks to somebody who hates stickers, there are 26 of them but you have to apply them on plates, so it’s easy, but I can see that somebody doesn’t buy this because there are lot of them. The sails are made of plastic and I think it’s the same that we saw int he previous Sail Barge. And here are the content of the bags, each big bag contains a little as well for the small pieces. Leia’s and Rebo’s headpiece comes in a small polybag to protect them, both of them is made of softer rubbery ABS. Ree-Yees’s head is also from this material but he didn’t get a polybag, I don’t know why. Build And we have the first wave of figures who are coming with bag one plus Jabba’s bag. Leia is beautifully painted with an awesome headpiece, she has a second face as well which has an angry expression. She has a nice back painting as well. Our next one is Max Rebo, he is the cutest minifig I’ve ever seen. His headpiece is perfect with painted eyes, but that’s all for the prints on him, he is plain azure blue which looks astonishing in real. And there is Jabba that we’ve aready seen, but he is still looks great and has a rotateable upper body and moveable arms. The remaining figs are coming with the last bag so I will show them when I get there to keep you excited:D The first bag makes the strong base with technic parts The second bag adds the floor of the Barge with some more details. The back section where Max’s „piano” will be has a very clever design add a different angle ont he back. We also build Jabba’s bed or what, with this bag, the dark green and dark red plates are looking great together. Aaaand here we have the music instrument itself, the build is quite clever and gives a futuristic piano look. And the gig can start:D the other bag with number 2 makes the interior of the Barge, adding a prison cell and a little oven to cook blue ice cream. The prison cell is quite lame because on the back side it’s open… Just a shot with Everybody’s favourite bikini and it’s owner. And the owner of the bikini owner:D Let’s continue with the build, bag 3 which makes my favourite part of the barge, the nose. Some complain about beign to blocky but I have to say that I really like it. There is lot of brown parts here and it’s attached to the main body with 3 teching pins. One of the best paly feature can be found here as well, the nose hides a cannon which come forward if you open the hatch and slides back when you close it. And that’s how it looks connected to the body. Bag 4 contains the parts for the rear side panels, you have to apply 6 stickers on each sides. There is one thing that is a negative point for me, the little side wings are too plain, at least in the previous edition they’ve put a dish on it to spice it up. Now the Barge is taking shape. The side panels look great on the outside but ont he inside it’s random colors with lots of plates, I have to say that it’s not pretty but very sturdy and durable. With the 5th pack we cover the rest of the ship and add the remaining stickers. The back looks great but there is a little space between the 3 panels on the back. And we already reached the last bag which contains the main deck with the last 3 figs. R2-D2 is nothing special we’ve seen him dozens of time, but I was glad to get it because I have only the old, white headed R2. Let’s continue with Ree-Yees, he has rubbery palstic head which looks too happy, his headmold looks great, I really like the gran species in SW so I’m glad that we have on mad of Lego. He has eye and mouthprint, but IMO the tan color is too bright and it would’ve been better to add a darker tone to it (like on Jar-Jar’s head). His clothes are dark brown, the body painting is nothing special, a decent robe with a belt, he has backpaint too. And the last figure is a nameless Weequay soldier which looks awesome, I was surprised because I wasn’t excited about him. His clothes are very colorful and has a great bodyprint with some sort of leather armor on it, the back is cool too, he has long hair which continues on his body. And the best part is his head, there are scars and wrinkles. Here is the deck without the sails. The turret looks good and what’s a SW set without filck-fire missiles right? And here is the finished set. Overall Thought: When I first saw the pics of this set I wasn’t really interested in it and wanted to get the Gunship. But OT sets have a unique atmosphere which makes them the best (As I’m getting older I start to like OT more). I’m really happy with this set and glad that I chose this. The ship itself is great and it’s quite large, I sadly don’t have the skiff to comapre it, but it’s almost half meters long. The figures are lovely especially Max. The set also contains loads of useful parts in brown, dark tan and the usual SW colors (gray, dark gray, black). I really like the play features as well, I buy sets to display rather than playing with it, and this set is on the border between display and play set; the opening side is a great addition for kids to play and a good way to show the sets interior. We also have the cannon in the nose, the Barge has wheels too and there is the indispensable set of flick- missiles. Scoring Design: 9/10 I really like the overall look of the set, but it could’ve been bigger and there is the problem with the undetailed sidewings. Parts: 10/10 850 pieces of goodies. Lots of brown, dark tan, black, gray and dark gray parts. Also there are loads of bigger plates too. Minifigs: 10/10 I cannot complain, we get 6 and 4 of them is new, more would be better but The quality of the figs are superb so I’m satisfied with them, my only negative is R2’s waiter plate, it’s not accurate and it doesn’t look good. Price: 8/10 I got the set for 34000 HUF which is about 25$ cheaper than the original S@H price. My concern is that the Gunship is almost the same price and has 300 more parts. Build: 9/10 I’d give it a maximum, but the color differentation for brown parts are quite lame in the BI and it makes the building procedure harder. Also there are loads of repetition, it’s not a problem for me because I enjoy building the most, so it’s acceptable, but for children I imagine that hey get bored while making the same step for the 5th time. And there is that 26 stickers too. I hope this review helped deciding whether to buy this or not, comments are welcome and appreciated, thanks for opportunity. - Csacsa234
  3. Hello everyone, No one knew what this series is going to be like before seeing the official released images in earlier November 2013. There are lots of discussion accompanied with a high level of hype and excitement among the LEGO community, wondering what could this whole new concept is going to be based on? I also believe most of us have seen this earlier and as well as this which focus on the upcoming 'The LEGO Movie' which is slated for global release in 7 February 2014. All of these promotional materials which we can currently relate to, are definitely continue to build the hype and making this complete new series into a totally exciting new dimension which I will be sharing in this Eurobricks review. Before I begin this review in proper, I will like to give my very most sincere thank you and gratitude to The LEGO Group (TLG) for continuing to facilitate and giving me this very exclusive rare opportunity to access to this 'early' insight before many others, so I could have adequate spare time to work, evaluate and review this absolute newly LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series. I will also like to give my utmost thank you to the Eurobricks Staff/LEGO Ambassador, CopMike and my fellow Eurobricks Staffers for being so helpful and supportive to this reviewing endeavour. Lastly, the most important person which I must thank, is my beloved wife, Kim/Belun for being so understanding and supportive throughout this reviewing period! I am truly very glad that I am able to able to continue to share this very special reviewing achievement with everyone once more. I hope I have not disappoint anyone in this review, if so, I will like to offer my humble apologies and I really hope I can continue to meet your expectations for this exclusive reviewing coverage. As the Eurobricks tradition depicts, let's do a formal re-cap for all of the past Eurobricks Collectable Minifigures polls once more. It started with a humble beginning of Series 1 followed by Series 2 in the year 2010 and it continue to spread like wildfire with another three strong waves of minifigures craze in the year 2011, putting Series 3, Series 4 and Series 5 in an excellent harvesting year. In the year 2012, we celebrated with Series 6, Series 7 and recent Series 8. With the beginning of the year 2013, we have the recent Series 9, Series 10 and Series 11. Now, I will like to invite the Eurobricks Community to cast their votes into this complete brand new LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series poll statistics as well. Name: 71004 LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series Theme: LEGO System / Collectable Minifigures / The LEGO Movie Year: 2014 Minifigs: 16 unique minifigures Price for 1 box: USD N.A, GBP N.A, EURO N.A, SGD $294.00 Price for 1 packet: USD 2.99, GBP 1.99, EURO N.A, SGD $4.90 Resources: Brickset, BrickLink An image of an 71004 LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series The LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series come in a very nice strong blue schema for this entire release. Please do not be mistaken with the close relative of the blue colour family line such as the 8684 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 2 colour schema or even the 8805 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5. These two series come with complete different blue shade. Pardon me, I won't be showing all of the previously released of the LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series for comparison. [Reference 1] [Reference 2] [Reference 3] [Reference 4] What could possibly contain within these mysterious sealed packets? This is the superb new LEGO Minifigures - The LEGO Movie Series group picture The LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series is slated for worldwide release on the 1st December 2013 (unlikely to be correct) or 1st January 2014 (most likely). This complete new series has also taken on a new LEGO Theme name, and it will be regarded as 'The LEGO Minifigures' (MFs) instead of the traditional name known as 'The LEGO Collectable Minifigures' (CMFs). In this case, this will be different and special unlike the usual approach. So, what does this entail for the LEGO minifigures fans? Does this change the playing field? Fortunately, the fundamentals and principles of the LEGO Collectable Minifigures Theme remain to be a force to be reckon with and have found their way into the new LEGO Minifigures - The LEGO Movie Series. This entire selling approach serve as an excellent opportunity for the TLG to leverage the success of the CMFs and introduce into an one-off promotion to promote the very own upcoming licensed theme of The LEGO Movie in February 2014. This will certainly go right down into the marking of a significant milestone for the LEGO Minifigures history. So, does this spell the end of the success of the LEGO CMFs? I bet my gut feelings that this entire new marketing outreach approach has opened a new window of opportunity to introduce more variations into this LEGO Theme. It is most likely that the LEGO CMFs is taking a short hiatus and who knows, we may also see its return in the near future, like in 2015, for example. Too bad, I am no TLG fortune teller and only time will tell if my guess is right. Meanwhile, let's focus and see if the LEGO MFs design team has indeed wow us with lots of surprises and treats like they always do for previous CMFs series. Please do note that the naming that I have use for this review are official TLG minifigures naming for LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series. So, there is absolute no doubt or misinterpretation on the naming used. Is this going to be LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12? Earlier ago, there is an upbeat discussion on whether this LEGO Movie is going to be regarded as LEGO CMFs Series 12 or LEGO Movie CMFs something of that sort. Being LEGO AFOLs, we like to get our facts right and at that point in time, without sufficient clear evidence, things may get a little quite complicated peppered with high tensions from our fellow members and our Eurobricks Staffers had to intervene to calm things down. I will quote myself again in the past discussion: "This upcoming brand new release is to be regarded as "LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series". This is the official naming for this Series. In short, it also meant that this minifigures packaging will be similar in the CMF design which we are familiar with. However, this is not exactly a LEGO CMFs Series 12 in exact but to infer as Series 12 shadow. This is not related to any of the LEGO CMFs Series 1 to 11 concept which I believe will take a short break and taking on another new perspective to present and market other LEGO Minifigures Theme. In this case, this is all about the upcoming LEGO movie. Am I making any sense?" In short, this is not exactly the LEGO CMFs Series 12 which we are looking forward to, but instead you get a surprising twist to treat this new release as the LEGO MFs - The LEGO Movie. This is just to clarify the pending matter and to help one another. No pointing of fingers of who claiming the rights of credit will be allow. We are an educated community, so let's just refrain and play well with one another. Front view comparison with the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series packet and together with all available LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 1 to 11 packets Now, let's put the LEGO MFs - The LEGO Movie Series packet, along with the rest of the released LEGO CMFs Series. You could see the distinct differences from one another especially on the top right hand corner where it now only state '16 to collect' instead of the series number. The rest of the packaging location is standardised with one another, except for the new placement of the LEGO Movie logo instead of using minifigures. Nonetheless, it is very impressive to see so many of these unique packets being arranged together. It is a pity that I did not include the Team GB Olympics Minifigures packaging in this picture. It will definitely make this showcase look much complete. Take a closer look at these. This is the front view of the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series packet, while this shows the back view of it. Last but not least, this is an image that shows the back view comparison for all of these packets. I am going to repeat this very 'same' golden rule, likewise in all of my previous reviews. If you are intending to narrow the precious and hard-to-find minifigures that you are bending to collect, please continue to hone the touch and feel method. It is an useful skill set to acquire and locate the minifigures that you want without wasting additional money to randomly acquire them especially when you are intending to buy large quantities. Your sole mission is to memorise and remember the minifigures assortments for each of the specialised designs. Isolate and identify the most unique accessory or accessories that appeared for the particular minifigure. From there, eliminate the torso, head and legs away and feel for other parts. The only disadvantage of this method is much idle time will be most likely wasted if the minifigures that you are seeking for does not exist in the box or ending up having sore numb thumbs after feeling. However, I personally feel that this approach is the most practical that works the best for me than any other uncommon approaches. Front view of the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series promotional poster Back view of the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series promotional poster 1) The destructive Calamity Drone This destructive Calamity Drone is the first listed minifigure in this LEGO Movie Series. She is a cyborg robot and certainly work for the evil President Business. Judging from her appearance, she seem to come from the Wild Wild West settings and I have absolute no idea on how this Calamity Drone will relate in this movie. Perhaps, she is being deployed to catch the main characters, Emmet and Wyldstyle. If you just look her from behind, you may actually assume that she is a damsel but whereas it is not entirely true. I also wonder if there is any strong association with the real Calamity Jane in the late 1800s or just a mere coincidence. Parts assortment The parts assortment is decent which include the brown musket as a choice of weapon. I am much pretty fond of her new hairstyle design, where the red hair accessory cap can be detached from the hairpiece. It is well positioned from the top and it is able to show a forward slant appearance. You can admire her gracious wild west outfit from her side view. However, you can see the true colours of her robotic skeletal from her clear front and back which clearly show her non-human nature. Watch out for my firearm Do I look fine to you? Bring it on... 2) The ruthless President Business President Business is the main antagonist in the LEGO Movie. I also understand that he is also known as Lord Business, presented in his other evil originator form. In normal circumstances, President Business will be wearing in his usual brick brown hairstyle and smart grey suit. President Business is the Chief Executive Officer of many global businesses, and one of which is the LEGO Octan Fuel company. As his other alter-ego, he is bending to dominate the world through his robotic cyborg army. Parts assortment The parts assortment is quite average even though I must admit that I am pretty fond of the red Octan printed mug. President Business comes with dual emotional mode and one of which showcase his anger. You can view his grey suit outfit in detail from the side view and back view. One of the interesting feature is President Business's brick brown hairstyle which is very unique and different from traditional design. My Octan Sales are not doing well... Find the culprit and bring him to me 3) The imaginative Hard Hat Emmet Let's welcome the ever jovial, happy and stress-free Emmet, the main protagonist of the LEGO Movie who will be going up against President Business to stop his plans from dominating the world. Emmet is foreseen to be or believed to be the saviour of the LEGO Universe to become the most extraordinary Master Builder, where in fact he is just an ordinary looking LEGO Town citizen that got himself involved in a bigger adventure of his lifetime and also to meet his dream girl through this quest. Also not to mention that, at any glance, you will most likely remember his name as "Emmet" since his name tag can be found printed on his left leg. Parts assortment The part assortment is quite average but there are lots of fun in deriving Emmet. I believe the main new feature is Emmet traditional classic red construction helmet which come with a new variation that include his brown hair colour all around his helmet to show his hairline. You can see the clear comparison in this image, followed by taking a closer look from his side view and back view. This printed 1x2 tile is a piece of interest, which illustrate something of an manual or work orders of some sort and I can't help but to think that in Octan, if you failed in your mission, you will feed to the sharks and be happy for it. Geez, I think the LEGO Movie will probably shed some truth in it. Did I not mention that Emmet also come with an extremely happy mood? Everyday I'm shufflin I want my construction of oil refinery finished! Why are you so happy everyday? Another busy day at work 4) The charming Wild West Wyldstyle "Come with me if you wanna not die.", as quoted by this main lead actress in the LEGO Movie, Wyldstyle donned in her beautiful Wild West outfit. Wyldstyle is also Emmet's love interest but I am not sure if Wyldstyle will reciprocate the love. Her iconic signature hairstyle is pretty nicely done and is unique to her character, which is evidently seen in her Wild West outfit. I wonder what sort of adventures do both share in this Wild West settings. Parts assortment The parts assortment is decent and the nicest thing about this minifigure is the black dress which is suitable for the medieval or pirates themes. You can also see the details from her front which even contain a small skull button at the centre of the neck as well as the dress laces at the back. Her only accessory is the black ornamental fan. Welcome to Wild West Isn't these exhibits cool? I do not fear you Superheroes assembled 5) The determined Abraham Lincoln I don't recall remembering TLG ever using any official representation of any certain real-life characters. In this case, this is certainly and surely one of the first non-fiction historic character, known as Abraham Lincoln appearing in the LEGO Universe. Historic fans of the United States history will definitely like to own a piece of history especially when Abraham Lincoln was once the 16th President of the United States. Furthermore, I am very fond of his famous quote in the upcoming LEGO Movie, "A house divided against itself... would be better than this!" and I felt it might be implying to the abolishment and banned of slavery in the United States. I can't be certain if it hold any true to it, but I thought it might be related in some form. Parts assortment The parts assortment is not too bad, especially the introduction of the printed tile that titled "Four Score and seven years ago...", which refer to the Gettysburg address by Abraham Lincoln that touch on the "Declaration of Independence", written at the start of the American Revolution in 1776. You can view the unparalleled detail of Abraham Lincoln from the side view and back view in LEGO minifigure format. The hairpiece assortment is a combination of his tall black hat and his black beard. It is non-detachable and is make up of a little mild soft ABS hard plastic. You can view the clear difference without his hairpiece on. Do you know my real identity? We came a long way in history Going back into history 6) The caring Mrs. Scratchen-Post This is Mrs. Scratchen-Post and I got absolute no idea of what is her role in the upcoming LEGO Movie. I supposed I describe her as a caring woman, mainly is because for her love of cats, similar to our Series 11 Grandma. I am quite certain she should be playing a fairly important role in order to get herself included into the movie series. Parts assortment The parts assortment is pretty neat especially the inclusion of a new design for the cats. Her grey colour hairstyle is nice on its own and we take this opportunity to compare with the Series 11 Grandma from the side view and back view. Their love of the cats is evidently shown on their torsos which will make a sweet treat for cat lovers identifiers. Swap with one another Blind date Who are you? 7) The nasty Scribble-Face Bad Cop The nasty Scribble-Face Bad Cop is employed not for serving justice but solely following the orders of President Business. He is also the right-hand henchman of President Business and is hunting Emmet and Wyldstyle in this wild goose chase, hoping to arrest either one of them. He has a good side and a bad side personality. In this case, this minifigure design does not show any good side of him, but instead you will notice his appearance being scribbled by hand-drawn sketches right on his face. I really wonder what is the main cause of it and I will expect the movie to explain the outcome. Parts assortment The parts assortment is decent and it include a handcuff in this packet. More importantly, I am particularly fond of this printed tile which feature the usage of a LEGO Smartphone. It contains numerous applications at the main page and one point of interest is the Octan app and the rest of the apps aren't too hard to guess either. You can view his smart black appearance of this injustice cop from his side view and back view. The minifigure design is versatile and can be easily applied and transformed into a generic LEGO Police Officer with his cool sunshades and unfriendly face. HELP ME... Law Enforcers On assignment 8) The poetic William Shakespeare As I have mentioned earlier on the Abraham Lincoln minifigure, this is the next second non-fiction historic character and it is none other than the poetic William Shakespeare. He is a well respected and renowned poet and playwright of the 16th century. His accomplishment include works of Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and many more. It is truly surprising to see this real life character coming to assume as a LEGO minifigure and it is a sweet treat for literature and arts enthusiasts and can be matched together with the Series 8 Actor. Parts assortment The parts assortment is not too bad as it include a quill and a 2x2 printed tile which feature an interesting quote "To build or not to build", which is very nice to note for LEGO fans like ourselves to contemplate whether if we should go ahead to build or not to build a LEGO set. This is very delightful surprise and I came out with my own rendition of "To brick or not to brick", in the earlier LEGO CMFs Series 8 review. The original quote is from Hamlet and is infer as "To be or not to be". The hairpiece is nicely done which reflect the close resemblance of the real life William Shakespeare. You can view the close details from his back view. Personally, this minifigure can also be used in other historic settings as well. You are part of my creation? Let me tell you a story and it all begins with... 9) The strong Gail the Construction Worker Although I am not very sure who the character, Gail is all about in the LEGO Movie but she is the first female LEGO Construction Worker ever created. In the past, it is proven that the LEGO Construction industry is a male dominating environment until she comes about to show us that females can also equally handle this tough construction job. Judging from her rugged appearance, Gail is no frail damsel in distress. You can probably guess that Gail is capable as well as her male counterparts. Parts assortment The parts assortment is average and the drill equipment is something which we have seen before. However, the nicest thing about Gail, is focusing more on her traditional red construction helmet which encompass her long brown tied hair at the back. It is non-detachable and the details can be spotted from the side view and back view. The back view comparison of the highly visible safety vests for Gail and Emmet are of two different printed designs. Working colleagues Lots of drilling down here 10) The hardworking Larry the Barista Let me introduce the famous LEGO Barista, Larry. He may look kind of dull and lethargic but he brew great coffee that will just perk you up in office. Larry seem to be quite popular among the LEGO fans as I understand that his expertise is require in many town areas for his great coffee brewing skills. As of now, you will probably recall from the movie trailer, seeing Larry charging Emmet for $37 LEGO Dollars for a cup of takeaway hot drink. Oh, he can be easily identified as "Larry" especially when his name tag is printed on his right hand side of the apron. Parts assortment The parts assortment is good and most of us will likely aim to acquire the printed takeaway drink for our minifigures to hold onto. It's awesome to know that the drink can be held by the minifigure. Larry's hairstyle is in dark brown colour and I am also fond of his styling. You can view the outline of his hairstyle from the back. I will surely be using his hairstyle for my other male Townies for different variations. What is your order? Hot cups of cuppa 11) The scheming Velma Staplebot This Velma Staplebot is a very scheming robotic cyborg which I believe the one who has engineered the cryptic world domination plan for President Business on this Super Secret Plan: Taco Tuesday. When I first saw her picture, I find this minifigure design to be very familiar to another character and true enough, it might just be referring to Velma Dinkley, a cartoon character from Scooby Doo. When I discovered this, I realised this is actually an interesting fact to behold. Perhaps, it's too much of a coincidence but Velma Dinkley and Velma Staplebot could just be a reincarnation of herself since she is regarded as a highly intellectual individual with science as her specialisation. I really wonder what kind of diabolical plan will they come out with. Parts assortment The parts assortment is not too bad especially taking into account of her overall minifigure design and the 2x2 printed tile featuring the clipboard mentioning the Super Secret Plan: Taco Tuesday. Her iconic new hairpiece is something which I am very fond of. It is retro looking and you can admire more of it from the side view and back view. A change of appearance The full hunt begins My evil minions Carry out the 'Super Secret Plan' 12) The excited Taco Tuesday Guy Without having an opportunity to watch the movie first, it is very hard to infer or guess if the Taco Tuesday Guy is truly innocent which is being 'used' by President Business or Velma Staplebot or at the same time, thinking if he also knowingly participate in this elaborate set up. Some of us are happy to see the return of this fellow especially for those who have missed it earlier in LEGO CMFs Series 2. It never hurts to get a similar counterpart for our Series 2, Mariachi, so it is nice to see a new re-hash of this guy. Parts assortment The parts assortment is great, especially when we see a new sombrero and poncho designs and you can see them altogether in here. You can see some of the details from the back view. The detailed printed Taco Dish where you can place 1x1 yellow flat tile to represent as a form of cheese tacos, is truly nicely done up. Boss, all ready Taco Tuesday Fiesta Taco Tuesday 13) The unpredictable ’Where are my pants?’ Guy Come on everyone! Let's search for his 'pants'. Oh great, I hope this is not some sort of publicity stunt by President Business or even probably a reality show by this infamous ’Where are my pants?’ Guy. Apparently, he seems to be losing his white pants all of the time. I wonder why he can't keep it on. We will leave it to find more details in the upcoming LEGO movie, hoping it will shed some light onto this matter, because it is very hilarious and weird to see TLG coming such a strange conceptualised design. Parts assortment The parts assortment is average and the best thing about this entire concept, is the addition of a minifigure leg. This ’Where are my pants?’ Guy is the first minifigure ever that comes with two pairs of legs. Indeed, it is strange but pretty useful for fans who are searching to stock up white leg pieces for minifigure customisation purpose. I also find the torso design to be quite refreshing with the Hawaiian fitting and it add some colour vibrant into the background as well. Unfortunately, there is no back printing for the torso. I am wearing my pants now Howdy everyone Say 'cheese' My other twin brother Finally found my pants! 14) The dangerous Wiley Fusebot I have absolute no idea of how Wiley Fusebot come about, and the closest that I could guess is Wile E. Coyote cartoon character. It might be close but this is just a rough guess, since the other two minifigures designs are somehow related to something else that we are familiar with. Wiley Fusebot is a robotic cyborg like the rest and he appear to specialise in explosives and pyrotechnics. Still, he make a fine addition in the outback settings or hunter of some sort. This make probable sense since he might just be hunting Emmet and Wyldstyle. Parts assortment The parts assortment is very good especially the inclusion of the revolver and dynamite. I like his head piece very much and the amount of details is shown clearly at the side view and back view which include back printing. You can see the amount of details present in this minifigure design. A refreshing look Are you a zombie? I have explosives with me 15) The cute Panda Guy This little fellow is widely regarded as the cute Panda Guy and is now officially to be my most favourite minifigure in this series. First of all, this is a panda in minifigure scale and it is too cute to resist. I am very curious to find out what kind of hopefully angelic role that the panda guy will act in the LEGO Movie. For now, let's welcome the sixth furry outfit in the LEGO Universe. Parts assortment The parts assortment is good and my favourite part is the Panda soft toy. At first, I am wondering if this panda guy will be merely filled up as a real panda sizing instead of a minifigure fitting in there. True enough, you can see the hardworking panda guy ready to don his panda suit. Just look at his panda adorable eyes, and the sheer amount of pandy details from the side view and back view including the zip presence. Uniting them together The furry animals Latest city news highlights My favourite animal character 16) The beautiful Marsha Queen of the Mermaids Hurrah, for LEGO Mermaid lovers. Yes, we are getting a new mermaid variation. The last time we had one was back in Series 9, Mermaid. Apparently, this mermaid is regarded as Marsha, Queen of the Mermaids, which mean she is one of the highest ranking individual, along with Series 7, Ocean King that control the seas creatures in their underwater empire. It is really very nice to see some different LEGO Mermaid designs in their original form. Parts assortment The parts assortment is pretty good. The LEGO mermaid design is done in an excellent manner especially on the front and the side as well. It is also good to see a pink gem and white calm which both are useful accessories for using in other building purpose. Her hairstyle contain a purple starfish print to increase the level of details. Look at what I have found Underwater Royal Kingdom Members This party is getting crowded General Statistics for 71004 LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series Below is the combination which I have received from my box, 2 Calamity Drones 6 President Business(s) 6 Hard Hat Emmet(s) 4 Wild West Wyldstyle(s) 4 Abraham Lincoln(s) 2 Mrs. Scratchen-Post(s) 6 Scribble-Face Bad Cops 2 William Shakespeare(s) 2 Gail the Construction Worker(s) 4 Larry the Barista(s) 2 Velma Staplebot(s) 4 Taco Tuesday Guys 4 ’Where are my pants?’ Guys 4 Wiley Fusebot(s) 6 Panda Guys 2 Marsha Queen of the Mermaids Based on the above distribution, I have managed to achieve only two full complete sets of 16 one-of-a kind minifigures each. It means I will have 28 remaining random spares left. Read down to find out what are the remaining spares I have. My remaining spares 0 Calamity Drones 4 President Business(s) 4 Hard Hat Emmet(s) 2 Wild West Wyldstyle(s) 2 Abraham Lincoln(s) 0 Mrs. Scratchen-Post(s) 4 Scribble-Face Bad Cops 0 William Shakespeare(s) 0 Gail the Construction Worker(s) 2 Larry the Barista(s) 0 Velma Staplebot(s) 2 Taco Tuesday Guys 2 ’Where are my pants?’ Guys 2 Wiley Fusebot(s) 4 Panda Guys 0 Marsha Queen of the Mermaids Data Analysis Based on the complete new data which I have complied, I have indicated my basic analysis based on my own take. Buying one full complete MISB box will allow you to achieve two maximum complete unique sets. I believe this is the new distribution which is being considered for a full box of 30 since TLG is intending to market the LEGO CMFs series with effect of the not quite recent LEGO CMFs Series 9 to be sold in a box of 30 and 60 to market and reach out to new and different group of consumers. Therefore, if you are buying a box of 30, you will definitely be given a full complete set, while a box of 60 will certainly give you two complete sets. This is probably for the first time ever in the LEGO Minifigures Collectable history that there is no specific army building minifigures unlike previous LEGO CMFs Series. All of these current 16 minifigures designs are mostly specific characters tied into the upcoming LEGO Movie. The main lead actors and actress such as Emmet, Wyldstyle, President Business, Abraham Lincoln and William Shakespeare are such good examples, where you don't need an army of it. In addition, other characters are pretty quite generic and largely revolved around the LEGO City settings and the closest army building minifigure and yet generic looking is probably the Scribble-Face Bad Cop. With the constant release of LEGO Police in the LEGO City Theme, I don't really think the Scribble-Face Bad Cop will be hardly sought for especially when there are six of the same designs present in a sealed box. Other minifigures designs such as the Panda will be also well looked out for and it is really great to know that he is also in the six of the same design distribution, while Larry the Barista, Abraham Lincoln and some others are in the four of the same design distribution which will not cause a huge panic to locate it. I foresee that the Marsha Queen of the Mermaids will be one of the hardest to locate especially since this design is in the two of the same design distribution. Overall, I am pretty pleased with the way in how the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series distribution listing. What do you guys think about this round of distribution? Do you share the same sentiments? To conclude and summaries, based on the probability demonstrated by this review, as an example, here are the results, Very High probability 1) President Business(s) 2) Hard Hat Emmet(s) 3) Scribble-Face Bad Cops 4) Panda Guys Total range: 40% (increases by 15% more based on 3 complete sets equation) Each: 10% Medium probability 1) Wild West Wyldstyle(s) 2) Abraham Lincoln(s) 3) Larry the Barista(s) 4) Taco Tuesday Guys 5) 'Where are my pants?’ Guys 6) Wiley Fusebot(s) Total range: 40% (remains the same based on 3 complete sets equation) Each: 6.67% Very Low probability 1) Calamity Drones 2) Mrs. Scratchen-Post(s) 3) William Shakespeare(s) 4) Gail the Construction Worker(s) 5) Velma Staplebot(s) 6) Marsha Queen of the Mermaids Total range: 20% (decreases by 15% less based on 3 complete sets equation) Each 3.33% The LEGO Movie Series will be launching on the 1st December 2013 or 1st January 2014 (worldwide) To conclude, the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series has done a remarkable job to introduce more new minifigures designs into this new minifigure theme, even though it is not directly classified under the LEGO Collectable Minifigures category. This is the very first time all 16 minifigures are being released and grouped under one single selling theme and in this case, it is all about marketing and promoting the upcoming LEGO Movie next year. This release also allow us to see the highest numbers of LEGO female minifigures in a single series. There are actually a total of six female minifigures in The LEGO Movie Series and this clearly show a gradual increase of more female counterparts. Many thanks for the hardwork of the TLG Minifigures Team to carry out much research and design work for these designing concepts. Your dedication has paid off indeed as this series continue to live up to expectations. Now with a total of 192 minifigures released for the entire Series 1 to 11 and the current LEGO Movie Series, not including Mr.Gold which unfortunately I do not have the blessings to own it and the recent acquired Toy Soldier that can only be obtained through The Minifigures Character Encylopedia. I have decided not to take the super big traditional group photo, is mainly largely attributed to the fact that this series is considered as LEGO CMFs Series 12. Therefore, I have reviewed this entirely and reflect it as an individual series under the minifigures umbrella. This entire theme had evolved and transformed to a brand new endless dimension which I strongly believe will continue to marvel all of us with their future releases. With this LEGO Movie Series releasing soon, I am still very unsure and uncertain of the next subsequent series, even though it is rumoured to be of a certain licensed theme. Well, we shall see in the next few months after the launch of the LEGO Movie itself. Meanwhile, let's enjoy these wonderful new minifigures designs. Please note that the The LEGO Movie Series do not contain the placement of LEGO spare parts/accessories. This was practiced since the start of LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3. Summary review Playability: 8/10 (More new LEGO Minifigures integration across many new and existing themes.) Design: 8.5/10 (Good detailed and limited new LEGO minifigures' parts and accessories such as the new take-away cup, hairpieces, new printed tiles, etc.) Price: 8/10 (I believe pricing will remain the same and overall quality has certainly improved.) Overall: 8.2/10 (Another high rating for this new series and it is very much worth buying and continue to collect these new minifigures.) I gave it a "5" based on my Review Score Card. 4. To be Bad Cop, or not to be Bad Cop? That's a question you could roleplay with… Set Title: Bad Cop's Pursuit Set #: 70802 Theme: The LEGO Movie Pieces: 314 Minifigures: 2 Year of Release: 2014 Price at Release: USD 30 Browse the pictures? Flickr set INTRODUCTION Ask me which LEGO Movie sets I was least interested in, and this would've been at the top of my list. Only one unique minifigure, some random tower construction thing, and a car - not exactly that exciting. It seemed to compete with all of the other sets at this price point, the 2-in-1s, all of which seemed to be a lot better than this. But was my initial reaction correct? Let's find out! BOX Lots of action on the box, but again, not that much excitement. The cop car looks ok, but the other thing just looks like an excuse to have more parts in the set. The back doesn't exactly do much to help. The highlight seems to be the cop figure. Just two minifigures in this set - Bad Cop, and another Emmet that you'll probably get in a different set. Admittedly, this is the only way to get Bad Cop/Good Cop in a set, but he alone wouldn't be enough reason to buy this. INSTRUCTIONS Just one booklet for this set, and one small sticker sheet. Not too bad. Same dull color scheme inside as all the other sets, but oh well. It does the job. MINIFIGURES Emmet, as always, is useful if a bit dull, but Bad Cop is truly cool. I love the over-the-top angry face with the cool shades, and the helmet is a great new mould. The torso is nice standard cop affair. Both have alternate faces: the extremely silly Good Cop face, and Emmet's annoying scared face. The Good Cop face is terrific. Both hair/hat pieces are nice all around. Bad/Good Cop has some nice back printing too. A word about the new gun (making its only appearance so far out of Star Wars) - it works magnificently. I saw some reviews of Star Wars sets that say that it works sometimes and not others, but I'm not sure what those people did wrong, since it works every time for me. I get that it's no replacement for accurate guns in SW, but it's a really nice weapon that works very well. I can imagine kids (and myself) having a lot of fun shooting minifigures with this. ANIMALS We get two nice dark green cop gators; standard gator affair, but they're not in that many sets so it's nice to see them pop up again every once in a while. SET - RAILWAY Here's the thing that I took to be a bit of a throwaway, but it's actually an excellent construction. The build on the broken-down rails is great, and overall this thing looks lovely in real life. There's some nice little stone detailing with a frog down in the water, but what really makes this great is the play feature. You can push the red part to make the hanging track lock upright. Emmet thinks he's safe standing up on the rails (even if he's freaking out). And then you can pull out the red part again, and down he goes! It works very well, and I love that you can both lock it up and let it down with the same technic part. SET - COP CAR So the rail part looked surprisingly good, but the cop flying car is really amazing. The shaping is great, giving it a really sleek and fast look that just screams to swooshed around. I'm not sure these pictures show it well enough, but this car looks really really great. The designer did an outstanding job. The back has a great thrusters construction that makes it look like quite a fast flying machine. The inside is quite roomy. Plenty of space for Bad Cop to get comfortable and enjoy pursuing people. The sides lift up to reveal guns that are packed away. This feature is really unobtrusive when folded up. I always love some trans-yellow, even if it's just boat tiles. The guns fold out and back to become cop-colored weapons for to pew-pew away Bad Cop's enemies. The car looks a little strange with the wings up, and I wish they could fold back down somehow once the guns were out, but it's still plenty swooshable and doesn't ruin the look. Overall, just a terrific flying car. I haven't experienced a model I liked this much in a while (although the SWAT truck in the Cycle Chase set is pretty amazing too). EXTRAS Not too many extra pieces of note. You get a second one of the piece that shoots the studs in the new gun, but I'm not sure what you're supposed to do with that. COMPLETE SET and CONCLUSION To my great surprise, I've come away thinking that this set is a bit of a must-buy. The builds are great, especially the car car, which is simply outstanding. There is an excellent amount of pieces for the price, and though the minifigures might not sell this set, Bad Cop is great. I imagine a lot of people will want to get him after seeing the movie, since he seems to play a sizable role. Even though this is one of five sets at this price range for the line, I'd definitely consider getting this one. You won't be disappointed.
  5. Hey there fellow Eurobricks members and Chima fans. I’m happy to present you my review of Vardy’s Ice Vulture Glider from the new summer wave. Hope it will help you decide whether to get the set or not, or just have fun reading it. Set Information Set name: Vardy’s Ice Vulture Glider Set number: 70141 Number of pieces: 217 Number of minifigs: 2 Age range: 7-14 Price: 19.99 USD / 6000 HUF Box Let’s start with the box it features the new design, with the icy chima logo and the blazing background, they make a good contrast together, also the dot on the ’I’ in the logo is a Fire Chi. This time we have the bad guy in the upper right corner, and I have to say it’s an amazing artwork. The frozen effect on Vardy’s face is beautifully done and very detailed. At the top left corner as usual the figures are presented, now they have fire and ice background instead of the regular blue/good - red/evil signs. I also made a pic with all Chima logos we have so far. Here you can also see that, the box is the same size as Lavertus’s Twin Blade and Lennox’s Lion Attack, however the latter has a deeper box, the other dimensions are the same. A shot from the top, Vardy is shown here in 1:1 size, and we can see the figures in a different pose. Now take a look at the back, the flame theme continues here and the play functions are shown. The main splitting function got a simple blue background while the flick missiles and Lundors flamethrower turret has a nice winter landscape. We can also get a little hint what the official website will look like with the new ice theme. Contents of the Box and Build With the box wrapped up we get 3 bags, one bigger (which includes a small one) and 2 from the smaller size, a thick BI and a DSS with 5 stickers. Here are the parts spilled from the bags, you can already see some great parts, like the dark brown feathers or the 2x2 inverted tiles and the trans light blue goodies. I did a shot with all the trans parts too, on this pic you can see the new spike and claw pieces as well, the spike looks like the same as the ones used for Spynlyn’s legs but they are bigger and got a technic axle instead of a simple pin. And a comparison shot with the regular (now it’s the Ice) Chi and the new Fire Chi. Okay now comes the greatest part of the set, the minifigures. We get 2 of them and they are both exclusive to this set! Lundor a cat guide among Phoenixes and member of the Leopard Tribe, and Vardy the leader of Vultures. Lundor is beautifully detailed, you immediately recognize that it’s a Leopard from the rosettes. (according to wikipédia Leopards are the smallest of the big cats, it’s good to know what ate you in Africa or Asia) He also has a little skirt and I really like the furry knees, those kinda look cute. He comes with a double-sided head on one side he has a grin smile on the other he is angry and ready to roar. Here he is with full armor and the new Fire Chi print on a 1x1 round plate. It looks very nice and you get a spare one. The headmold is great too, it makes him look bulkier and stronger, it has a serious expression. I really like this headmold and it’s great for Lundor and Tormak, but for Liella it gives a muscular look which takes away the feminity. He has a weapon called the Blazeprowlor, which is quite simple, but looks effective. Now let’s see Vardy the star of the set for me, he is my favourite from the Ice tribe members. He comes with a translucent left arm (thanks JEK-14) which looks great, it’s great to see that TLG begun to use trans limbs. Just look at the body print, sand green and gray, with a purple head. He also has exposed flesh and ribs which are glowing by the power of the Chi that resurrected him. I really like the bones used for knee prtectors, it’s a nice touch. Only the head print looks a bit off because of the beak section but that will be covered by the great head mold. He doesn’t have double sided head which looks like a tradition since the Outland wave, that bad guys don’t deserve a second chan… I mean face. Here he is in his trans light blue armor which is amazing, and he also has the wing pieces in new color. The head mold is printed nicely and has a freaky look. He has a weapon too called the Bonezythe. Before the build let’s take a look at the BI, it has the same image as the box itself. On the back side we can finally see that they got rid of the WIN kid and put a WIN Laval instead. There is a great picture at the end of the BI showing (almost) all of the summer wave figures. They left out all cat guide members, Foltrax and Vornon. An action shot can be found after the figure list, probably it’s going to appear in Lego catalogues. And a pic of all sets. Another with only the main system sets divided into the 2 factions. The build went smooth, there weren’t any problems with color differentation. It was enjoyable and fast. Here is the result: And the spare parts. The Set and Play Functions First take a look at Lundor’s little turret, the base is quite simple but it does it’s job, it has some great sand orange parts including the brick pieces, there is one extra clip where you can store his weapon as well. On the back you can see the Fire Chi attached which probably gives the power for the flamethrower . The Turret has legs and can be detached from the base and used as a little walker vehicle, however the front is very heavy and you have to lift up the „nose” of the structure, otherways it’s not stable. Now onto the Vulture Glider, I think it’s on of the best bird-like vehicles that this theme has. The color scheme contains mostly brown, dark tan and trans blue and they work really well together. The design is very nice and the vehicle has great ariculation. One of my favourite parts and a very essential one for the overall look is the head, and it’s done greatly, I really like the stickers used on it. As you can see the wings are attached via ball joints so you can fold or turn them into different positions. I show you the main function, the splitting, as you can see in the picture the little Glider is attached via clips to the Vulture, and that’s the only connection point between the 2 vehicles so you can lift it up for easier access, and detach the glider. It’s simple but cute, I have to say I like it very much, but with the feathers inverted. Like this: And the Vulture looks almost better without the Glider, it’s really a great build. The Mammoth stomper looks awful without the detachable aircraft, but this one is still cohesive and awesome alone. We also got 4 flick misisles 2-2 on each sides. Say hello to my little friend Rating and summary Overall I’m really satisfied with this set. I don’t have personal experiences about the other sets from the wave (yet) but this is got to be my favourite. A beautiful Vultue aircraft with a detachable glider and a fire turret, with 2 astonishing minifigures, who are both exclusive to this set. it has some minor flaws like the claws, it looks a bit weird on the foot that there is no claw on the inner side, but I’ve tried i and they would seize, so it’s better this way. Also Lundor’s turretchair is not a big deal but a great addition for playability. The only missing thing from this set is a clip to the vulture where Vardy can store his weapon but it’s not that necessary. Rating Design 10/10 It’s well deserved, the Vulture is amazing in any aspects and the little fire turret looks cool too. Parts 10/10 Lots of trans light blue parts, some new parts, recolors, mixel joints, lots of useful stuff. Minifigures 10/10 This is where all Chima sets stand out, beautiful prints and great molds, this is no exception. Price 10/10 I got the Lavertus’s Twin Blade for the same price (15% cheaper than the S@H price) and compared to that this set worth every ’penny’ Playability 10/10 It’s rather good for a set this size, 2 figures can battle, the Vulture has flick missile, articulation, split function, and the Fir turret has a Fire Chi mode and can be used as a little walker. Hope you enjoyed my review, it was quite objective because this set really grew on me. Feel free to share your thoughts and opinion about this set!
  6. Hello everyone, When the rumoured news of the LEGO Simpsons is going to hit into the hearts of the LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series, there are two exact opposite group of LEGO fans. Either they love this new design concept or totally felt this new design concept is complete irrelevant with the LEGO Theme. This is just the rough sentiments of LEGO fans late last year. Recently, with the new launch of the 71006: The Simpsons House near to the start of 2014. It has definitely proved very welcoming for many LEGO fans and AFOLs wanting to see this happening in the world of LEGO Collectable Minifigures Universe. No one knows how these will end up to be, until the release and upload of official photos by TLG. This is a moment of truth where you will discover the magical new series and experience in this review. Please pardon my lack of strong knowledge of The Simpsons if I had fail to mention or identify critical components relating to the design. I also rely heavily on The Simpsons Wiki Resources (thank you!). Before I continue this review in proper, I will like to give my very most sincere thank you and gratitude to The LEGO Group (TLG) for continuing to facilitate and giving me this very exclusive rare opportunity to access to this 'early' insight before many others, so I could have adequate spare time to work, evaluate and review this absolute newly LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series. Now at the start of 2014, we have seen the LEGO Movie Series. Now, I will like to invite the Eurobricks Community to cast their votes into this complete brand new LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series poll statistics as well. Name: 71005 LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series Theme: LEGO System / Collectable Minifigures / The LEGO Simpsons Year: 2014 Minifigs: 16 unique minifigures Price for 1 box: USD N.A, GBP N.A, EURO N.A, SGD N.A Price for 1 packet: USD N.A, GBP N.A, EURO N.A, SGD N.A Resources: Brickset, BrickLink An image of an 71005 LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons The LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series come in a very nice sky blue schema for this entire release. It is associated closely with the overall opening sequence of the animated sitcom. It also show the repetitive clouds at the background with familiar details. [Reference 1] [Reference 2] [Reference 3] What could possibly contain within these mysterious sealed packets? This is the most incredible detailed new LEGO Simpsons minifigures ever released The LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series is slated for worldwide release on the 1st May 2014 or 1st June 2014. This complete new series has also taken on a new LEGO Theme name, and it will be regarded as 'The LEGO Minifigures' (MFs) instead of the traditional name known as 'The LEGO Collectable Minifigures' (CMFs). This is used in conjunction with the LEGO Movie Series which was released in the beginning of 2014. The LEGO Simpsons Series is based on the very popular and timeless American adult animated sitcom in the 1980s, known as The Simpsons. It is originally created by Matt Groening. The series is a satirical parody of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by its family of the same name, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition. This new release has opened a brand new dimension of LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series (LEGO CMFs) and it is true that the new marketing outreach has successfully attracted new LEGO fans through popular existing characters or series which we are mostly familiar with. It is most likely that the LEGO CMFs is taking a short break and who knows, we may also see its return in the near future, like in 2015, for example. Only time will tell if my guess is right. Meanwhile, let's focus and see if the LEGO MFs design team is able to amaze us with many surprises and treats like they always did for previous LEGO CMFs series. Please do note that the naming that I have use for this review are official TLG minifigures naming for LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series. So, there is absolute no doubt or misinterpretation on the naming used. Front view comparison with the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series packet and together with all available LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 1 to 11 and LEGO Movie packets By placing all of these packets altogether, you could see a distinct correlation of how it has evolved from LEGO CMFs Series 1 to the very new LEGO Simpsons Series. You could also notice the distinct differences from one another especially on the top right hand corner where it now only state 'The Simpsons' instead of the series number or 16 to collect. The rest of the packaging location is pretty standardised with one another. Take a closer look at these. This is the front view of the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series packet, while this shows the back view of it. Front view of the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series promotional poster Back view of the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series promotional poster 1) Presenting Homer Simpson It's no surprise that you get to see Homer Simpson for the very first time in LEGO format. He is the first in line to be introduced into this series. He is just your regular and typical lazy person that sit like a potato couch holding his television remote control and munching away with his donuts. Everything about him is just simply 'Homer' and I am very with the amount of high details and attention is given to this character design. This is his original outfit when he is at home or elsewhere other than his working attire. Homer Simpson is the main protagonist. He is the father of the Simpson family. He is an overweight, lazy and ignorant individual, but is strongly devoted to his wife and children. Despite this and his below average intelligence, Homer has shown moments of great intellect, and can be a caring parent and husband at times. He works as a low level safety inspector at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, in Sector 7G. He is often incompetent and mostly sleeps and eat on duty. He spends a great deal of his time at Moe's Tavern with his lifelong friends Barney, Carl, Lenny, and bartender Moe. Parts assortment The parts assortment is amazing and I love the very fact that Homer comes with printed parts containing the remote control and donut. It is the very first time that we ever get such wonderful minifigures accessories. You can view the design details from his side view and back view including his bald head. Give me that donut! I am not going back to work... Watching Space Avengers My favourite Sci-Fi TV series! 2) Presenting Bart Simpson Next, we will be seeing the mischievous and chaotic fellow, known as Bart Simpson. He is one of the main characters in the Simpsons family and he will do anything to disturb your long desired peace. Even though he look just like your regular growing teenager, but he will always have something up in his sleeve. Bart is a self-proclaimed underachiever who is constantly in detention. He is easily distracted. His penchant for shocking people began before he was born. Bart's interests include Krusty the Clown, reading comic books, watching The Krusty the Clown Show, terrorising Lisa, playing video games and pulling off various pranks. Bart also sprays graffiti under the alias 'El Barto', and regularly frequents the Kwik-E-Mart and The Android's Dungeon. Parts assortment The part assortment is decent especially with the inclusion of the new designed skateboard which is exclusive for Bart's usage. The nice part about his minifigure design is that the printed body parts are combined together to form the catapult which is placed hidden at his back. You can also take a moment to see the side view of his half-sleeve red T-shirt design and back view. I believe his torso design is the same as the 71006 minifigure design. Check out that new kid on the block Some of the different designs of LEGO Skateboards in the CMFs Series Good switch for the body parts 3) Presenting Marge Simpson Our dear Marge Simpson, wife of Homer Simpson. She is a beautiful happy housewife and full-time mother of the Simpson family. She is the moralistic force in the family and often provides a grounding voice in the midst of her family's antics by trying to maintain order in the household. Aside from her core duties at home, Marge has flirted briefly with a number of careers ranging from police officer to anti-violence activist. Parts assortment The parts assortment for Marge Simpson is very good especially with the introduction of printed donut fancy tile and stylish handbag. I will love to equip it with other LEGO City minifigures for such accessories. Her hairpiece reveal a hole at the top of the hairpiece, but none of the hair accessory can fit in. You can view the fantastic details from the side view and back view. Her minifigure design is different from her housewife torso outfit in the 71006: The Simpsons House. Can anyone of you help me to buy a box of donuts? Now it's Marge's time to shine! 4) Presenting Lisa Simpson The next in the family is Lisa Simpson. She is a charismatic eight-year-old girl, who exceeds the standard achievement of intelligence level of children her age. Not to everyone's surprise, she is also the moral centre of her family. In her upbringing, Lisa lacks parental involvement of Homer and Marge, which leads to hobbies such as playing saxophone and guitar, riding and caring for horses, and interest in advanced studies. In school, Lisa's popularity is affected by those who view her as a geeky overachiever, which leaves her with only a few friends. Lisa Simpson is a smart, witty, independent girl who focuses on her goals and strives to reach her potential. Parts assortment The parts assortment is quite average. Other than the skirt cloth, the saxophone design is the one similar to the earlier version but with different colour coating. You can view more of her design details from her side view and back view. I believe her torso design is the same as the 71006 minifigure design. Brother and Sister Blue Brothers new addition Good usage of body parts 5) Presenting Maggie Simpson Now, we are going to introduce Maggie Simpson. She is the youngest child of Marge and Homer, and very pretty baby sister to Bart and Lisa. She is often seen sucking on her pacifier, and, when she walks, she trips over her clothing and falls on her face. Because she rarely ever talks, Maggie is the least seen and heard in the Simpson family. Parts assortment The parts assortment is pretty good, especially the inclusion of the new torso design which create an infant or baby design. It is a brand new design and is pretty much similar like a toddler. I will love to use this part to create more toddlers in many families in LEGO City. You can view the marvellous details from the side view and back view. Her accompanying accessory is the torn teddy bear which has obviously taken some beating. Her torso is the same as the 71006: The Simpsons House. Shall we get them? Four in a row What is going on? A happy family 6) Presenting Grampa Simpson To finish the last of the Simpsons Family members, we are going to present to you, Grampa Simpson, or simply as "Grampa". He is the patriarch of the Simpson family, father-in-law of Marge, the father of Homer and the grandfather of Bart, Lisa and Maggie. His real name is actually Abraham Simpson. He is a World War II veteran who was later sent to the Springfield Retirement Castle by Homer. He is known for his long, rambling, and often inaccurate stories and general incompetence. Parts assortment The parts assortment is pretty neat especially the inclusion of a new design for the newspaper printed tile. I am not familiar with the news headlines of and I had to rely on Google to tell me more about it. Apparently, the "Old Man Yells at Cloud" is about Grampa falls in love with Zelda, an old woman who has just moved in to the senior home in which Grampa lives. It is something along that line. You can notice the details of the old wrinkles and attire from his side view and back view. Great to have some company Good switch of the body parts 7) Presenting Ned Flanders Our dear Ned Flanders is the Simpson family's extremely religious next "diddly-door" neighbor. He is a genuinely well-meaning good-natured person. Though firmly religious, he can be timid and something of an easy pushover. He thoroughly worships God and strictly follows the Bible as literally as possible and is easily shocked when challenged on any point of dogma. He also owns the Leftorium and a home business, Flancrest Enterprises, which makes religious hook rugs. He also works as a member of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department. Parts assortment The parts assortment is decent and it also include printed tool box and mug which is customised for Ned Flanders. You can view the facial details and appearance from his side view and back view. Do you want to come over for BBQ? Hello neighbours! I can be nice and tough! 8) Presenting Krusty the Clown Now we are in the entertainment spotlight, I will like to present Krusty the Clown. He is the typical cynical, burnt-out, addiction-riddled smoking clown host of Bart, Lisa and Maggie favourite TV show - The Krusty the Clown Show. Parts assortment The parts assortment is rather average. It only come with a different flavour cream pie. The unique and accurate feature is the headpiece of his distinct clown hair style. It is made up of hard ABS plastic. His looks kind of give me that creepy feeling though. You can view more of the details through the side view and back view. Come on, don't you want to have some cream pie? Clowns Entertainment Good switch of body parts 9) Presenting Milhouse Van Houten I am very pleased to present Bard's best friend, Milhouse Van Houten. His most distinctive physical traits are his extreme near-sightedness, requiring thick glasses to correct, and a huge nose that is about the size of a softball. Despite being believed to be a nerd, Milhouse has average intelligence yet has very poor social skills. He is also very gullible, thus he is constantly led into trouble by the mischievous Bart, who is not shy about taking advantage of his naive, trusting and loyal friend. Parts assortment The parts assortment is not too bad and it is a welcoming treat for Simpsons fan to be able to obtain the printed tile which feature Biclops comic book of a superhero wearing thick glasses similar to Milhouse. More of the comic details can be found in this "Worst Episode Ever". You can view the rest of his amazing details from his and side view and back view. New Superhero! When I grow up and look back Years later... 10) Presenting Ralph Wiggum Let me introduce Ralph Wiggum. He is a student who attends Springfield Elementary School. He is best known as the town's resident oddball, and has been immortalized for his non sequiturs and erratic behavior. His lines range from purely nonsensical, or bizarre interpretations of a current event, to surprisingly profound statements that go over people's heads. For this, Ralph is somewhat of an outcast among his peers, although he seems to be on good terms with a fair number of the other kids at school, such as Bart and Lisa Simpson and Milhouse. Parts assortment The parts assortment is good and it is a treat for Simpsons fan again to be able to obtain printed tile of "I Choo Choo Choose You". It is pretty nice to see Ralph focusing on expressing his love for Lisa in this episode. I also notice that his top of his head has a very cool whirl hair design that remain true to the original design. You can view the rest of the remaining details through the side view and back view. Can I ask you to be my date? Shall we exchange? What are you dreaming of? 11) Presenting Apu Nahasapeemapetilon Let's take a moment to welcome Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. In most cases, he will just liked to be called Apu. He is the operator of the Kwik-E-Mart similar to our real world 24/7 (7-Eleven) convenience stores. He is generally polite towards his customers, always saying thank you. However, he has had some negative traits, sometimes manipulating customers into buying things they don't really need. He has a bit of a paranoid nature, as evidenced by his once jumping behind a counter and then shouting threats to Bart and Lisa who were walking in to investigate a robbery that Krusty was framed for, and at least twice went up to the roof and started shooting his rifle at potential customers. Parts assortment The parts assortment is pretty good especially when we now have the chance to own the famous "Squishee Drink". I really like this character design very much and the design stay true to his original feature. You can view the rest of the details from his side view and back view. Who got the best drink? Beverage Sales 12) Presenting Nelson Muntz This fellow, Nelson Muntz, is the main bully and main antagonist of the series. Nelson is the leader of the bullies at Springfield Elementary School. He is often seen independently of the other bullies, and is Bart Simpson's former arch-enemy. He is still currently study at 4th grade which is most likely suggest that he is repeating his studies for a couple of years. Parts assortment The parts assortment is average and it does not come with great accessory other than a slightly different baseball bat that he used to beat people up. You can see some of the nice feature details from the side view and back view. Today is your unlucky day! Wanna play some baseball? Are you ready? 13) Presenting Itchy Come on everyone! This is the most ever popular Itchy! Itchy is a cartoon mouse from Itchy & Scratchy programme within The Simpsons animated sitcom. His enemy is Scratchy which you will have a chance to see him shortly. He usually always wins against Scratchy in their fights and usually ends up killing him. There is only one known episode where Scratchy wins and Itchy is killed. Parts assortment The parts assortment is average as it only come with a typical club but the nicest thing about this character is, you will be able to obtain the very first mouse cartoon character in LEGO form. I love mouse very much for some personal reason and it is pleasing to see it in LEGO minifigure size. Itchy has the same height like Yoda, which utilise the short legs. More of the stunning features can be seen in his side view and back view. We are best friends I am here for real Wanna wrestle? 14) Presenting Scratchy Now, let me introduce Itchy's partner and it is none other than Scratchy. Scratchy is a cartoon cat from the show Itchy & Scratchy, an obvious parody of Tom and Jerry. His enemy is Itchy, a mouse. In almost every episode, Scratchy is brutally hurt and sometimes killed by Itchy. Parts assortment The parts assortment is not too bad as it only come with a typical slightly different wooden axe which I will illustrate below. The beautiful thing about this character is, you will be able to obtain the very first tail accessory that can be equipped at the minifigures leg and this is an epic improvement instead of just drawing a tail at the minifigure's torso back. Even though the cat may not look too overly friendly, but this is the first LEGO cat cartoon character to be released in LEGO format. Take a moment to enjoy more of the stunning features in his side view and back view. Two different types of wooden axes The Itchy & Scratchy Show Let's finish this off Newcomers for the mascots 15) Presenting Chief Wiggum Now, we are looking at the law enforcement department in Springfield. Our Chief Wiggum is the head of police of the Springfield Police Department. He is an extreme stereotype of a lazy police officer (copper). Chief Wiggum is morbidly obese, straightforwardly indecent, ignorant, incompetent, and really lazy, with a fondness for doughnuts. While he pretentiously feigns authority, he has little regard for individual rights or even public safety. He is disturbingly uninformed and flaunts his power, albeit with good intentions most of the time. Parts assortment The parts assortment is average and I am quite surprised to see Chief Wiggum not holding a revolver. Instead, he is given a baton and a slightly different variation of a loud hailer. I supposed he need to use it to maintain law and order in Springfield. You can see the rest of the details from the side view and back view. You are under arrest! Police Department Doing a switch with the CMFs Series 9 Policeman 16) Presenting Mr. Burns Shall we meet the last and almighty character of Springfield? It is none other but Mr. Burns. Mr. Burns or simply Burns, is the main antagonist of The Simpsons. He is the owner and manager of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. He is Springfield's richest and most powerful citizen. His net worth has been stated to be in the billions. Burns is very elderly and physically frail; regardless, he employs his evil, cruel, bitter, cynical, heartless and greedy tactics to get what he wants. Parts assortment The parts assortment is pretty good especially on the representation of the uranimum stick and radioactive three-eyed goldfish. He certainly retain the evil charm and is no doubt one of the biggest baddies in Springfield. You can see more of his detailed facial features from his side view and back view. I demand my profit! You are weak and feeble General Statistics for 71005 LEGO Minifigures - The LEGO Simpsons Series Below is the combination which I have received from my box, 5 Homer Simpson(s) 5 Bart Simpson(s) 5 Marge Simpson(s) 4 Lisa Simpson(s) 4 Maggie Simpson(s) 3 Grampa Simpson(s) 4 Ned Flanders(s) 4 Krusty the Clown(s) 3 Milhouse Van Houten(s) 3 Ralph Wiggum(s) 3 Apu Nahasapeemapetilon(s) 3 Nelson Muntz(s) 4 Itchy(s) 4 Scratchy(s) 3 Chief Wiggum(s) 3 Mr. Burns(s) Based on the above distribution, I have managed to achieve only three full complete sets of 16 one-of-a kind minifigures each. It means I will have 12 remaining random spares left. Read down to find out what are the remaining spares I have. My remaining spares 2 Homer Simpson(s) 2 Bart Simpson(s) 2 Marge Simpson(s) 1 Lisa Simpson(s) 1 Maggie Simpson(s) 0 Grampa Simpson(s) 1 Ned Flanders(s) 1 Krusty the Clown(s) 0 Milhouse Van Houten(s) 0 Ralph Wiggum(s) 0 Apu Nahasapeemapetilon(s) 0 Nelson Muntz(s) 1 Itchy(s) 1 Scratchy(s) 0 Chief Wiggum(s) 0 Mr. Burns(s) Data Analysis Based on the complete new data which I have complied, I have indicated my basic analysis based on my own take. Buying one full complete MISB box will allow you to achieve three maximum complete unique sets. I cannot believe that I will ever see three maximum complete unique sets for a complete MISB box. I am very elated to see the return of such distribution once more and it will allow box buyers to have better value for money. I thought the new distribution which is being considered for a full box of 30 is going to be permanent and I am wondering if the full box of 30 will be made available for the LEGO Simpsons Series and I am certainly wondering what could the new distribution be. For sure, I will probably not see a lot of people searching and gather at the LEGO shops to touch and feel for an extensive long period. This is probably for the first or second time ever in the LEGO Minifigures Collectable history that there is no specific army building minifigures unlike previous LEGO CMFs Series. All of these current 16 minifigures designs are specific characters in the Simpsons universe, where you don't need an army of an individualistic characters. Practically, you don't need a huge army of Homer or Bart, other than separate the parts into different usage for your LEGO collection. I also felt that the highest distribution ratio is given to the Simpsons Family, as they are considered the most iconic and highly sought for minifigures when they are looking for the main characters to complete. While, giving much smaller characters a lesser ratio of 3 per box. All in all, I think they did an excellent job in this distribution allocation. Kudo to you guys! Overall, I am extremely pleased with the way in how the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series distribution listing. What do you guys think about this round of distribution? Do you share the same sentiments? To conclude and summaries, based on the probability demonstrated by this review, as an example, here are the results, High probability 1) Homer Simpson(s) 2) Bart Simpson(s) 3) Marge Simpson(s) Total range: 25% Each: 8.33% Medium probability 1) Lisa Simpson(s) 2) Maggie Simpson(s) 3) Ned Flanders(s) 4) Krusty the Clown(s) 5) Itchy(s) 6) Scratchy(s) Total range: 40% Each: 6.67% Low probability 1) Grampa Simpson(s) 2) Milhouse Van Houten(s) 3) Ralph Wiggum(s) 4) Apu Nahasapeemapetilon(s) 5) Nelson Muntz(s) 6) Chief Wiggum(s) 7) Mr. Burns(s) Total range: 35% Each 5% The LEGO Simpsons Series will be launching on the 1st May 2014 or 1st June 2014 (worldwide) To conclude, the LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Simpsons Series has done a remarkable job to introduce more new minifigures designs into this new minifigure theme, even though it is not directly classified under the LEGO Collectable Minifigures category. The time and effort to invest and create the whole LEGO Simpsons Minifigures right from the scratch is indeed an incredible feat, especially the drawings to render and create the Simpsons facial designs that is very iconic and true to the original homage. Although I am not a full pledged Simpsons fan, but through the release of these minifigures, I have learnt to appreciate them very much which make me felt pretty positive towards this entire new approach. On a very positive note, I totally enjoy the different forms of integration throughout my different LEGO Themes in my collection, to re-create in their theme settings in Simpsons style. I will like to point out, and I am very sure I am not blind. The quality of the LEGO Simpsons Series is certainly made up of high quality ABS plastic which we are very familiar with. It is not the same design quality or the same production line that was done for all previous LEGO CMFs. I do not see any marked indent at the armpit of the minifigures which we will normally associate the production to somewhere in Mainland China. Unless, of course, TLG may have removed such identification. I strongly believe that the entire production line for the LEGO Simpsons has improved, even though at the back of the packaging state the components is made in Mainland China, while the main bulk of it is manufactured in Billund, Denmark. I do believe the components which they are referring to, is most likely to be the head design of the iconic and unique LEGO Simpsons head pieces. Now with a total of 208 minifigures released for the entire Series 1 to 11, the recent LEGO Movie Series and the current LEGO Simpsons Series, not including Mr. Gold which unfortunately I do not have the blessings to own it and the recent acquired Toy Soldier that can only be obtained through The Minifigures Character Encylopedia. I have reviewed this entirely and present it as an individual iconic series under the minifigures umbrella. This entire theme had truly evolved and transformed to a brand new endless dimension which I strongly believe will continue to marvel all of us with their future releases. With this LEGO Simpsons Series releasing soon, I really wonder if we can catch up with this fast and furious releases that TLG is putting out in the market. Time will tell. We will know what will be the next new exciting LEGO Minifigures Series that will be coming to our way in a matter of next few months. Please note that the The LEGO Movie Series do not contain the placement of LEGO spare parts/accessories. This was practiced since the start of LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3. Summary review Playability: 8/10 (Complete new LEGO Minifigures platform which can be used to integrate with other fellow LEGO Themes with The Simpsons together.) Design: 10/10 (My highest ratings ever for the quality of design especially with the new detailed designed head moulds.) Price: 7/10 (I believe the SRP will be on the high side due to the newly invested head moulds. Quality is pretty good.) Overall: 9/10 (One of my super high ratings ever and it is indeed worthwhile for you to continue this minifigures collecting conquest.) I gave it a "5" based on my Review Score Card. What about yours? I hope every one of you enjoyed reading this simple review of mine. Comments and Criticisms are strongly welcomed. 7. Hey folks! I just recieved a package yesterday with a set I longed for a long time and thought I put a review together. I was always a sucker for underwater themes and this submarine is one of my favourites, the Hydro Search Sub. It’s a member of the Aquazone theme line where Hydronauts and Stingrays were fighting for the crystal under the sea. I bought the set used without the box so unfortunately I can’t show it to you. Now let’s see what this set can offer to us… Set Information Set number: 6180 Number of Pieces: 273 (Some websites mention 289 parts but in most places I found 273) Number of minifigs: 4 Year of Release: 1998 Recommended Age: 8-12 Original Price: 50 USD Set I begin with the minifigs because they are awesome, mostly because of their kickass scuba equipment but the printing is great too. We have 3 hydronauts (aka the good guys) and a captive stingray. First I thought all 3 hydro faces are identical but I only noticed the differences when I browsed through these pictures . Also their torsos are different too, but none of them comes with back printing. Now this what makes these figures outstanding, the full chrome scuba helmet, it’s not the simple silver chrome but a bluish one and it’s in perfect condition after 16 years. Here are everybody with helmets, the stingray fellow has a nice mold too, especially the back of the helmet has some really great sculpting. Now let’s move on to the set and see the interesting parts. First of all we get a bunch of trans green pieces, which plays a huge role in shaping the color scheme of the Hydronauts. We have some special parts as well and I realised that I haven’t included a trans green part in the prevoius pic, sorry for that. And I was really happy to see that there are no stickers in this set, loads of great prints and not even a little sticker… good old times. Also we have a special print, that 2x2 black tile with the circular shape has a bit rougher texture and it lets the suction-cup to attach to it. After a pleasantly long build the submarine is finished and ready to search the bottom of the ocean for crystals. The full vehicle looks very great, it has a spectacular and unique shape with lots of areas. 4 cockpit, a prison cell and some hidden storages. Here is a shot of the „cage” for the captives, it has enough place to store 4 minifigis easily (maybe you can push a 5th one in there too). Also there are cockpits on both sides at the middle of the sub with control panel to do water-searching-science stuff. And also there needs to be a pilot for the detachable submarine. It also has a little control panel but it’s quite minimalist, there is nothing in it just a box behind the pilot. Play Functions As I said the back section has a detachable submarine which is the main play function of the set, but it has lots of funny things. Let’s see the bigger sub first. It looks empty without the small one IMO. On the back when the little sub is away you can immediately notice an opening hatch which contains a bit of equipment for the figures. I think it’s a dual reflector for the figs to see in deep waters. The back of their helmet has 2 studs where it connects. Moving away from the back there is another hidden place which hides a crystal, yaaaaay! Now let’s move on to the other part of our sub. It looks a bit bulky and it gives a cute shape to it, I think it looks great when it’s separated. It also has another 2 reflector sets, so every Hydronaut can have one. It stores 2 spearguns too which can also put to minifigs hands. And at the back there is even place for the diving flippers (The big sub has 2 too on the front). And another great function, there are flexible tubes with sunction-cups at their ends which connect to the trans green boxes and can transport them. They work perfectly and hold the boxes well. Rating That quite sums up the whole set, I’m sad that I don’t have the box with those silly alternative builds on the back, but that’s not gonna work down the scores. The submarine is beautiful with loads of special and interesting pieces, great figures and plenty of play functions. It also has that inimitable old-school feeling with the blocky shape all around the vehicle. There are a few flaws of course, at some places the ship is fragile and a few parts always come off if you don’t hold it properly, other than that I can’t say anything bad about it. Maybe the price, I only found info about the original price on Brickipedia and 50 dollars sounds like a lot of money for a near 300 pieces set. Scores: Build: 10/10 The build was fun, classic parts, the BI was short but there were loads of things to do at each step (I missed that, and without the needed parts in a little box at the steps you always have to pay attention carefully, I miss that too…) Design: 9/10 The whole submarine is beautiful with great color scheme, the only minus is for the fragility at some points. Price: 8/10 I got it for 40 dollars but without box and 3 parts were missing (in spite that the store I ordered it from stated that it’s complete…) but those are easily replacable through bricklink, and that’s not the set’s fault and still, I think it worth it. Playability: 9/10 Loads of storage places, accessories and openable areas, also sucker-cups and detachable little sub, there is plenty to do, only the little fragility brings down the score here too. Minifigs: 10/10 I gave it max, in ’98 you didn’t bought the Lego set for the figs (which nowadays is too common with the weak vehicles and sets, mainly in licensed themes), but they look awesome. Great torso and headprints ahh and those chrome helmets. The overall score is 46 out of 50 which is really good, I can recommend this to anyone, especially to somebody who is crazy for the classic underwater sets like me. I hope you enjoyed the retro review, comments are welcome, thanks.

The boxart shows Batman battling The Penguin. It also got the Batman symbol and the DC Comics symbols at the bottom. The back of the box is mostly green. It doesn't go well with Batman. It shows an alternate action shot and all the play features. The sides of the box shows the DC Comics Super Heroes logo and also the same illustration as the front of the box. On the top of the box features Batman in his Scuba Suit as the 1:1 figure. It also shows the name of the set in different languages. Contents Inside the box you'll find an instruction booklet and three unnumbered bags. Surprisingly, they do not include a comic nor a sticker sheet in this set. It’s uncommon to see super heroes sets without the comic and sticker sheet nowadays. The Instructions The instructions have a green background (as all of the 2014 DC Comics sets do so). It’s quite straight forward and easy to follow for young kids. There are a few ads for The LEGO Movie , DC and the LEGO Club in here. Also, there isn’t the DC minifigures lineup picture, for some reason. These appear at the end of the instructions. Interesting Pieces These are the interesting pieces in this set. The gun for Batman is new to me. It’s also nice to get the 1x1 round tile piece with the eye printing on it. The grey short legs is also new to me. Note that the piece on the upper right corner is printed, not a sticker. Minifigures The minifigures are the main selling point of this set as they are all new and exclusive. First of all is Scuba Batman. Here is a reference image for him from the comics. Batman comes in a new, mostly dark blue suit that is supposed to give him the ability to dive. I personally like this figure a lot. Here is the back view of Scuba Batman, with his air tanks on for him to breath underwater. Nothing really interesting. Here is a look of him with all his gears taken off. You can see the front torso printing much clearer. Interestingly, unlike the other Batmans LEGO has made, this one has a unique face. The first face is actually the same print as the others, but this one is on a black minifig head. Here is a look at the back of him without the air tank and mask. You can see his full backprinting and his second face. It’s interesting. At last, this is the view of him withal his gear on. His got a nice gun. You can also see what he looks like with his second face. I prefer the first face better. Next, it’s the Penguin. Here is a reference image for him from the comics. This one is different from the previous one. The biggest difference is that he now has a big coat on. It looks pretty good and I really wanted to have this fig since the pictures have come out. Here is a look of him from the back. You can see the back backprinting. Here is him with all his accessories taken off. You can see the front torso printing clearly in this picture. The Build First of all is Batman’s scuba vehicle. Here is a front view of Batman’s scuba vehicle. Again, the bat symbol on it is printed on the brick, not a sticker. Here are the side views of the boat. You’ve got flick fire missiles at both of the sides of the boat. Here is the back view of the boat. Nothing special at all. There’s a clip here where you can keep Batman’s gun there. Here is a look of the first part of the boat. This is what it looks from the top. This is what it looks with Batman riding it. Next, it’s The Penguin’s duck boat, it’s kind of annoying for The Penguin to have a duck vehicle instead of a penguin vehicle. Here’s the front view, nothing special. Here are the sides of the boat. It really looks like a duck at this angle. This also get flick fires. Here is the back with the rotor of the boat. Nothing special. Here’s what it looks like with The Penguin in it. Then, it’s the robot penguins. Here is a front view of them. They’ve got dynamite of their hands, orange feet and a yellow beak. Here’s the sides of them, you can see they only has one wing each, the another hand is just a simple clip. Here is the back of them. The 1x1 cheese slope pieces are the tails of them, I suppose. Lastly, it’s a block of ice. Noting too special except the translucent light blue diamond. The Complete Set Here’s the complete set. I think it fits together nicely. You get cool vehicles for Batman and The Penguin and two exclusive figures. I think it worth the money as a thirteen-dollar set. Ratings Design: 5/5 - I love the duck boat. It's so cute. It looks like a duck. It's my favorite penguin vehicle in this line so far (because we’ve only got one penguin vehicle!). Build: 5/5 - The build is quite satisfying. Plus, there’s no stickers to put on! Minifigs: 5/5 - The minifigs are pretty good. Scuba Batman looks great. The Penguin looks pretty good in his coat style suit. Playability: 3.5/5 – There’s actually not much play features in this set, except for the flick missiles. I’d like to see the block of ice exploding like in the Artic Batman set last year. Price: 4/5 - 136 pieces is a decent amount for a $13 set, especially a licensed one. Overall: 4.5/5 - This set is a good value. It gives you one of Batman's in one of his special suits, a new Penguin. It's a good buy for Batman fans of all ages.

    Review: 60056 Tow Truck

This review is of the 60056 Tow Truck: Set comes with 227 parts, separated into 2 bags (plus a small sticker sheet). Each bag has its own manual: Bag 1 makes the chassis and minifig, while bag 2 makes the upper body plus wheels and tools that clip to the truck's side (a broom and a wrench in this case): Bag 1 after assembly. The minifig is a typical construction/road worker, with blue and orange clothing that fits well with the truck's blue and orange color scheme (I wonder how many Mets fans will buy this set?). The overall truck assembled. Given how many of Lego's truck designs feature the European flat-front design, I was very pleased to see a more American or Australian-style cab: How the crane arm works: These: Go into these: Like so: They clip to the arm of the crane (pictured below on its own): When the arm is raised and lowered, the above parts slide back and forth, like the pistons on the real thing: One other detail that I LOVE is the entirely brick-built grille: The tow truck in action: Towing a car. In all honesty, having this huge truck towing a City-sized car seems like a bit of overkill compared to having this truck towing other trucks: You can also tow with the hook, but unless I'm doing this wrong, it seems like you have to maintain constant tension to avoid the hook dropping down: My overall thoughts: If I must criticize this set for anything, it's that it is a bit oversized for a tow truck, but as I said above, it looks fine towing other trucks. This is an outstanding set. It's a great-looking model with a lot of functions, an attractive color scheme, and a minimum of stickers. A perfect 10! -PS I must admit I may be a bit biased, seeing that "The Castle" (made in 1997) is one of my favorite films and it featured a tow truck driver as the main character
  10. It's a colorful explosion, the likes of which are rarely seen in a LEGO set. I'm talking about… Set Title: Cloud Cuckoo Palace Set #: 70803 Theme: The LEGO Movie Pieces: 197 Minifigures: 3 + two creatures Year of Release: 2014 Price at Release: USD 20 Just browse the pictures? Flickr set INTRODUCTION This set always looked like a must-buy. Crazy bright colors, crazy cute colors, and the main characters (with Wyldstyle's hair, unlike the Melting Room) in a cheap set? I'm sold. So how does it stack up in person? Let's find out! BOX Not even Friends sets have this many colors. This box is a burst of bright, cheerfulness. It might hurt some people's eyes, but it makes mine very happy. The back of the box doesn't show much of anything different from the front. You either want the pretty colors or you don't. If you couldn't tell, the set comes with Unikitty, Emmet, Wyldstyle, and a suave-looking robot named Executron. His name sounds like an old Space theme. CONTENTS Oh my, the colors! Already this looks like a lot of fun. The front of the instructions show more of the beautiful bright art for this set. My instructions had a printing error in them - bunch of parts on top of the pink arch disappear for a while, and then come back. Not a huge issue, but it doesn't happen that often that instructions have errors so it's always interesting to note. MINIFIGURES To some the minifigures in this set might not seem all that exciting, since it's just Emmet and Wyldstyle again and they come in other sets. This is the cheapest set in which to get Wyldstyle's hair (not counting the collectible series), so that's cool, and Emmet has an exclusive head that I'll discuss more below. The Executron looks pretty cool and snappy too. This Emmet has his own scared expression, and Wyldstyle has her reverse angry face. I really wish Wyldstyle had also gotten a different pair of expressions in at least one set, but oh well. Hers are good as they are anyway. In this set Emmet has some type of tracking device on his leg symbolized by a red stud. Wyldstyle's hood is nice as always. Exectron sadly has no back printing, but he's in a simple suit and doesn't really need any. Here's this Emmet on the left compared with the Emmet that comes in all the other sets. The happy expression in this set is so much better. I really don't like the eyebrows on the other happy face, and this one just seems so much more pleasant. I much prefer the scared Cloud Cuckoo variant as well. The more common one is silly and all, but the Cloud Cuckoo one feels much less annoying and seems reasonable. I could see using it in a variety of MOCs, whereas the regular one will almost always make a MOC funny. Unikitty and the snail are excellent, cute creatures. Unikitty gives off very whacky vibes, and the snail is just plain cute. Unikitty is basically a 2D creature so she looks the same from the other side just without a face. The snail gets some green stripes on his back, making his look more interesting. EXTRA PARTS The extra parts are great in this set, since there are a bunch of small bits in unusual colors, and having more of those never hurts! You even get an extra printed eye-piece. SET First up is this little catapult to launch pretty transluscent flowers. It makes use of a yellow life preserve (actually with the same construction as the "scope" on the Flying Flusher plane), and fires pretty well. Here's the palace! Sure it's really just a wall, but what a wonderful wall it is. It kind of looks like if LEGO made a CandyLand theme, this would be a set from it. The "cloud" base looks convincing as clouds, and even though there are a lot of different colors mashed together, it seems to work. Often I might critisize a set for using too many little bits, but I love the use of 1x1 round tiles here. The plethora of colors makes it look like beautifully colored stone-work. The big sun looks nice too, as do the printed dishes and flowers. Really, everything is quite on-point to create a beautiful model. The one "play feature" is that you can turn the gears to make two things spin at once. How much fun is that? Not really all that much I'd say, but it doesn't intrude on the look of the model so why not have it. COMPLETE SET and CONCLUSION The Cloud Cuckoo Palace is an unusual and striking set. The model is really quite lovely, and the parts selection is tremendous for anybody that likes fun colors. The minifigures included are nice too, especially the Emmet with better Emmet face and complete Wyldstyle with hair and hoodie neck-piece in a cheap set. I'd recommend you pick this one up. It's worth it!

    A late Review- Set 75034

Hello, this will be my first attempt at a review, but hopefully it should go OK, despite it being very late in the game. This set has been out for ages but I'm one of the people who buys sets late. This review, being very late coming, is a review aimed at the people who are still not quite sure whether or not they'll buy this set before it retires. I just hope that someone'll find it beneficial..! I apologize before hand for the lack of photos. I tried putting some in but it's all so complex! They all ended up oversized!! Brickset will have some. I would try again but if I wait any longer before posting this review, it will be completely ignored!! This set features a small gun, two Death Star Troopers and two Royal/Imperial Guards. Obviously it is based off the Original Trilogy, probably the last film. The box is quite small, as is the part content and the instruction booklet. There is nothing interesting to say about the instruction booklet-it's quite plain. The troopers are representing these 'operators' from the Death Star and are very accurate, the only part not represented being the ability to flip the helmet up/back off the face. The printing is detailed but not specific so MOCers will be able to re-use this torso and legs. I'm sure several of you will be glad to hear that there is no continuation of any print onto the legs of e.g. a holster, that will interfere with using the legs separately from the torso. I inspected the troopers carefully for any misprints or poor printing and found none. The attention to detail is great-the imperial symbol is printed on the helmet and less obviously printed are the little lights on the helmet's side. There is back printing, leg printing but no arm, side of leg or back of head printing. The other positive features in these figures are the different faces that appear on the Troopers- both have a headset but one is panicky and the other is relaxed. These figures are nice for a collection and the faces will be useful for creating people such as agents from a) the matrix b) Marvel Agents of Shield, or c) converting standard yellow Agents figures to flesh colour. The remaining two figures are the updated versions of the Imperial Guards. They have a new print, and a new colour added to their colour scheme. The hood piece is hard plastic, has an overhand over the front but no overhang on the back, which means the wonderful double sided cape is not crushed. The cape is dark red on the inside and the arms are dark red too which lend the appearance of shading. There is only one printed part on these Guards, that being the detailed crumples on the front of the torso; all other areas are blank. I'm not sure what it is with these figures, maybe it's the length of the hood, but they look a bit weird from the front, however the view from the back is good. Also when comparing them to pictures of them from the films, I realize that a) the hood should be smaller, and that b)they have a cape almost like a poncho. Making the hood on these people smaller would have been hard unless they made a new head mold. I wonder what they'd look like too with a dementor style cape that goes over both sides of the torso... I have put the weapons in their own section here separate from the figures as there is quite a bit to say. For starters the guns are quite large and unrealistic, but they have a traditional blocky Lego feel to them and the added shooting function, although heavily criticized, is a fun idea and works well. I have also seen this gun used in clever ways for e.g. grappling guns, and for MOCers it will be fun for them to provide uses for. For the people who don't like the guns on people there is always the possibility of integrating them in to large(ish) vehicles. Personally I don't mind them and the set as a result comes with a lot of spare red studs, which being transparent can often dirty with time, meaning new 'bright' ones are always welcome. Useful for those of us who need a lot of studs for Micro Manager building..! The force pikes given to the Guards at first glance seem a bit cheap. The parts are common and the overall look is a bit unpleasing; however when looking at a picture of them (see last link) I can see what Lego was trying to do. I can also understand why they'd want to use the torch piece rather than the thinner lightsaber hilt- the lightsaber hilt would confuse children about the nature of the weapon maybe..? To finish this review there is the gun to talk about. It looks like it should fit inside the Death Star set as a turret but I don't have it to try. It's rather basic and quite chunky in the wrong way. It's perched rather oddly on a small stand and sadly there are no controls for it despite there being a chair for an operator. It features a long double barrelled gun for 'display' and a functional flick fire that can be shot by pushing a lever. It's not fancy and not very effective; the missile often falls short of clearing the barrel of the gun- a rather fatal issue for any operator... Overall this is a very nice set, however it is obviously an add-on set, and it is necessary to have some other Imperial figures and some heroes to fight for any real play to happen. The other problem one might find with this set is that despite being an add-on set, it would not be practical to buy lots of it as contains the rather elusive Imperial Guards. EDIT-On Wookieepedia they say there could be hundreds of them. However, we rarely see them in the films This set feels very much like a set for a 'rich kid' or a TFOL or AFOL. It really needs a Palpatine or a Death Star or an Imperial Shuttle to accompany it, or a Millennium Falcon or a Rebel ship to be pitted against. The problem is with those sets/figures is that they're all expensive and the average child is unlikely to have them. All the same, it's a very nice set, the best and most accurate part being the Death Star Troopers. Summary/Rating- there is no sensible 'scale' of sorts here-just opinion Figures-8/10- Two of the four are spot on and good for collecting, the other two are a bit specific for an add-on set Parts-6/10- not many interesting parts here, the spares are boring. Build-2/10- Nothing new or interesting here. All there is is a simple gun and figure building. Price-8/10- Could be better but not by much. The content could have been slightly improved to justify a higher price. Playability-4/10- As mentioned earlier this set really needs a larger friend for it to complement. Display-4/10- Nice figures to display, the gun is a bit blocky though Overall rating- 5/10- (taken as an average from the other ratings) A reasonable rating for a reasonable set. Worth buying though, definitely worth buying if you have a Death Star... Thanks for reading this review (or at least part of it), I hope you find it helpful. If you notice a mistake on my behalf, or a fault or positive feature in the set I didn't mention, or even if you have a question, please leave a comment and I'll do my best to help. See 'ya!

    Review: 6673 Solo Trainer

Solo Trainer Set #: 6673 Year Released: 1990 Piece Count: 65 Minifigs: 1 RRP: unknown (Edit- probably around 4.99GBP). Searching the review index I spotted that no one had yet given attention to another of the sets I wished for but never had back when I was a kid. So after a little e-baying I give you my take on 1990's Solo Trainer. But... before we start I will raise my one issue with the set: it's name. Apparently the lego town flying school teaches their students by sending them up alone in a twin engined aircraft....though, maybe this is one of the reasons lego town's and city's have such well funded fire departments! Anyway, onward with the review! The Box Unfortunately I don't have a box for this one, however as with all kits of this era, the front print on the instructions matches the front box art, showing the aircraft from perhaps its best aspect (more on that later) against a washed out representation of a runway and airport control tower set against a cloudless blue sky - the weather was always good in 1990's town! Also on the cover in soft focus we see the ground equipment that comes with this set. The Minifig Yep, just the one, well he is training solo. No printing to be found, just a plain blue torso with white sleeves plus red pants and baseball cap. He's not exactly up to the standard of the smug pilot of today's sets: The Parts Here are the bits that go together to make your plane, nothing of particular note, but you do get some nice blue wedges in there which are good for 90's era boat/plane (or dare I say classic space?) MOCs. You also get 4 trans-blue 1x2x1 panels: The Instructions Standard double sided fold out affair split into a very short (2 step) ground equipment build followed by 15 steps of aircraft. Despite the change in background colours from sky to grass, there are no issues with contrast and they are relatively easy to follow with a few mini-build call outs. Our intrepid student might be worried though as he was hoping for some instruction on how to fly the plane, not just build it! The Build and Model The build starts with the ground equipment which includes a simple shell liver fuel drum and hose and a big spanner which our student will need to build his aircraft. Luckily for him there's no particularly novel techniques involved. Here is a shot about a third of the way through: Fuselage is done, onto the wings, which are a separate call-out build: As you see in this next shot the wings and roof are a single assembly which hinges forward to let the pilot in through the roof. The gaps at the back of the cockpit really irk me, particularly as this ugly feature is hidden from view on the box art. Why they did not use plates and tiles, or 1x1x1 cornet panels to fill the gaps I do not know? Im also unsure about the open sides here, it 1x2x2 panels or airplane windows might look better. It is a bit of a struggle for our student to get in! Having finished the plane, it's time for a pre flight walk around. From the side the plane is noticably short and stubby, but does look quite smart if you ignore the cockpit issues. The engines are simple 2x2 with pin pieces and again could perhaps use a little detail: From the front, no complaints: Fueling Up: Our smug modern pilot instructor gives some final words of wisdom: "so there I was, in a 2g inverted dive..." Oh dear, first flight hasn't gone too well! The IP decides its time to make himself scarce: The Verdict Build& Model: Average, nothing novel, but the resulting model is well shaped and reasonably robust for the part count. Just a shame about the 'missing' parts around the cockpit: 7 Parts: Some useful bits in here, nothing unique though: 7 Figure: Pretty plain, and there's only one, this set could use a maintenance guy, or instructor with a walkie talkie to add a bit more appeal: 5 Playability: Its a plane, you can 'swoosh' it! The ground equipment adds a little extra too: 8 Overall: A fairly solid all round set given the part count. Looks good from most angles though some modding of the cockpit and engines would likely improve things. If you want a small civilian aircraft for cheap, then you could do worse than start here: 7

    Review: 30071 Police Boat

Police Boat Set #: 30071 Year Released: 2012 Piece Count: 35 Minifigs: 1 RRP: $3.99 (US), Free with the Sun newspaper (UK). Here we have one of the 2012 City Polybag promos, which was available in Walmart in the US, free with a 'news'paper in the UK and part of various other exclusives across Europe. The set is part of the 'forest police' line rather than your regular city cops. The Box Bag Despite being a 'forest police' set the bag art shows our cop speeding through the water in front of silhouetted city skyscrapers and out onto the usual City blue 'L' which contains the LEGO logo, age range and set number. Already you can see the much griped about neck issue with the new style life preserver. The back of the bag is full of multi-language 'small parts' warnings, a small promo for the lego club and gives you a sneak peek at the parts through a transparent strip down the centre seam: The Minifig Here you get a standard forest cop. He has a nice front and back print khaki shirt, with badge over his left pocket and a handheld mic clipped to his right pocket connected to a radio in the back of his waistband. Dark blue legs, a tan 'park ranger' style hat and the smug pilot head complete the figure. The Parts There aren't many, but you get a few interesting bits: two flavours of 4-wide wedge, some trans-blue cheese a 2x1 cheese grill, a black 1x2 brick with two studs on both sides and printed blue 'POLICE' tile. You will end up with a single trans-blue cheese left at the end of the build too. The Instructions Look how cute when folded; almost minifig size! Here they are unfolded, they have a good contrast light blue background and the set colours are sufficiently dissimilar that you won't easily be confused. The steps are simple with only a couple of parts added at a time. The lower half of the back page shows a promo shot of the other 'forest police' sets. You can see their downtown bretheren across the bridge in the background: The Build and Model The build is done in 2 parts, the boat and engine. It starts pretty much as any other 4-wide boat/plane with a combination of plates and wedges: Then, add some more plates and wedges! I think given the size and price of the set the red/green nav lights are a nice little touch by the designer. The stacking of the two wedge angles also gives a more streamlined look to the bow: Finally the engine and it's pretty huge. I think perhaps the older style plate, grille plate and lever/arm with 3 fingers used trhoughout the 90's may have been more suited: And we're done so lets have a look around. First from above; you can see just how big the engine is and how far it sticks out. Whilst the clip-on arrangement gives a minor 'play feature' allowing the engine to be raised/lowered/removed, I can't help but thing it should be closer to the boat: Rear quarter and again you see the giant engine dominates: From the front quarter though she looks good and fast. Though the cop is having a bad neck day. You cant really spot in the photo but there is a 2x2 inverted dish under the bow for riding wave in the carpet without snagging: The Verdict Build & Model: The build was simple yet enjoyable given the small piece count. The nav lights were a nice touch, though insufficient to distract from the likely issues of centre of gravity vs centre of buoyancy are policeman is about to encounter: 6 Parts: A reasonable selection of bits for say, making boats? Might also be good as a parts source for aircraft MOCs or general policey bits. Let down only by the lifejacket: 7 Figure: Very good, I do like the forest cops, I suppose you could want some leg printing, but I'm not sure what. Lifejacket I have scored in parts, so as to not be unkind to the minifig: 9 Playability: It will happily splash (what is the boat equivalent of 'swoosh'?) around your carpet pretty fast. You could say the engine adds playability but that might be stretching it a little. Get another boat or fig and there are plenty of scenarios to play out: 7 Overall: For a promo polybag I think it fulfils it's purpose well. It shows off some good design elements, has a good fig, reasonable playability and would entice kids into the police product line. For AFOLs it's still a nice little impulse set and with slight modding to the engine area I think would look good in most settings: 8

    REVIEW: 60011 Surfer Rescue

hello again! i had a couple of TRU vouchers which were on their way to expiry and the summer wave of sets had just came in, so i headed down to TRU to pick up 60026 town square. as it turns out, i got more vouchers after purchasing the set, so i decided to pick up a couple of impulse sets but ended up also buying the 60010 fire helicopter. talk about LBSD my TRU haul today: 60026 town square, 60010 fire helicopter, 60011 surfer rescue x2. also picked up the 60000 fire motorcycle, but the significant other seized it on sight i'm sure many of you have already picked these up, but since no one has stepped forward to do a review, i thought i might do my part. i will follow up with a review of 60026, if someone hasn't already done a review of it by the time i find time to build it. ---- Set Number: 60011 Set Name: Surfer Rescue Sub-theme: Coast Guard Year of Release: 2013 Pieces: 32 Minifigs: 2 Components: jetski, surfboard, shark Price: 6.99 USD msrp / MYR27.90 (~8.90 USD) malaysia - where i am from! BOX the box is exactly the same size as impulse sets of previous years, such as the 4427 fire atv and the 3177 small car, though it is slightly less thick. it has a nice picture of the set on the front and sides, with the usual ages and set number on the front, along with a notice in several languages that telling us that the boat does not float. on the top, a 1:1 scale showing our friendly neighbourhood coast guardsman, and a plain blue back with warnings and thumb tabs to break open the box. interestingly, TRU in malaysia has cello-taped up all sides of the box to ensure that no hooligan will break open the boxes in-store to seize parts and figs. i have carefully removed the tape prior to taking the pictures. PARTS as we crack open the box, we find one bag of parts, a folded instruction booklet, a DSS, and the shark without its jaw loose in the box. laid out in all its 32 piece glory, we have a nice selection of parts, mainly in white, blue and orange. interesting parts include the blue wedge piece, the white slope piece and also the selection of orange parts. most of these interesting parts will be stickered. and here are the extras, we get an extra visor and life vest STICKERS four stickers are used in this set, none of which are STAMPs, and do add detail to the set (i will include pictures of the build both stickered and not stickered below) INSTRUCTIONS the instructions come in a booklet off less than 20 pages, including an overview of the coast guard sub theme, an introduction to the city starter set, and a set inventory at the back. the first page of the instructions also shows a brief four panel cartoon of a minifigure sorting out the parts. a random page of the instructions. there are part callouts for each step, but most steps call for only 1 piece at a time, so it is a quick build, and you will breeze through the booklet in no time. happy to report that colours on the instructions are good, with no difficulty differentiating bley and black. and by the way, no, there was not a problem with the printing on that wedge plate in the callout, i have no idea why the picture came out that way. MINIFIGURES the figures are nothing to shout about, although they both do have back printing. i have included the coast guardsman without his life vest so you can see the prints. he has the generic newer sunglasses face and is in full uniform complete with badge and epaulet. i find it interesting that he would ride a jetski in his full uniform though, along with sunnies under his helmet. who is he trying to impress? the gold bars on his epaulet, badge and belt buckle are a shiny metallic-ish print. the the surfer has the newer 'smirk' face and a nice wetsuit on, with a zipper print on the back. i don't think he would be smirking once the shark shows up. both have no double sided heads and no leg printing. the life vests included in the set are the new-type which leave that horrible looking gap between the torso and the head. gladly, this isnt that noticeable once his helmet has been attached. the complete set of figs with shark and stickered surfboard. i do think the sticker adds a nice detail to the surfboard, but it is far less interesting than the printed surfboards we get with the CMFs. THE JETSKI the main event, and the reason i bought the set. it is a pretty quick and easy build and it does look nice, one of the better jetski designs i have seen from TLG. it looks nice and sleek, the three-colour choice is striking but clean, but a bit plain without the stickers. i have to say in this case, the three stickers for the jetski does complement and add details to the set. that said, i usually sticker my sets anyway. there is only space for one fig on the jetski, and he is able to grip the bars and plant his feet on the jetski without much forcing or manipulating his posture. as the life preserver is connected by one stud and is not supported underneath, it is a bit fragile and might pop off if pressed on, or if the jetski is held the wrong way. BONUS: COMPARISON here, i have attached some pictures of the previous polybag 30015 jetski from 2011. similarly, the colours are bright and striking. the 60011 jetski is definitely a more complex (im using the word 'complex' here very loosely ) build. it is slightly larger and meatier, however the 30015 jetski has space for an extra fig. CONCLUSION Design: 9/10 a very well designed set, focusing on the jetski. sleek design and an improvement over previous designs. Parts: 8/10 some interesting parts and colours, though most of them would be stickered over. Build: 8/10 a swift, easy and fun build, i'm sure most of you won't even need the instructions to build this Minifigs: 7/10 lost points here for the lousy life vest design, but thumbs up for both figs having back printing Playability: 8/10 besides zooming the jetski around, and having your surfer gobbled up by the shark, not too many play features for the set. as the jetski only has space for one fig, perhaps a tow line to tow the surfer to safety might have been a good idea. or is this asking too much Price: 8/10 i'm giving this an 8 as i think lego in malaysia is way too overpriced. a whole 2 dollars over MSRP in the US is a bit much, but in all fairness the 2013 line of lego sets are pretty reasonable compared to how much they used to sell sets previously. Overall: 48/60 - 80% not too bad of a set, pretty interesting for an impulse set. that's all for now. hope you enjoyed this quick review as much as i had fun building, playing and writing it. as always, comments and criticism welcome.

Review: 6510 Mud Runner / Dune Raider

Mud Runner / Dune Raider Set #: 6510 Year Released: 1991 Piece Count: 34 Minifigs: 1 RRP: unknown (I think I bought this as a kid for 1.49 or perhaps 1.99GBP). Having recovered my childhood Lego from my parents loft I figured I could fill in some of the blanks on the town pictorial reviews pages. So here we have a neat little pocket money set from 1991; the Mud Runner, to those in the USA, or Dune Raider, to us Brits! No box I'm afraid so I'll have to distract you with...... The Minifig Oh.... Erm.... As figs go, he's not very distracting, unless you are distracted by the colour blue! But look, he has white arms. All in all a basic fig, but not too surprising from a low end early 90's set: The parts There are so few, I'll show them all. Nothing especially rare at first glance, but Peeron tells me the printed '4' tile only ever appeared in this set, and that the yellow horse hitch only in two horsey sets released in 1989 and 1992: The Instructions The instructions are a single double sided sheet with 9 steps in total. The front 'fold' of the instructions provides the same art as the box of the completed set on a plain sand dune and sky type background. You can see from the folds just how small the original box would have been. As with most classic sets there are no part call-outs, but here we only add a couple of pieces at a time and there's not exactly a large pile of pieces to be rummaging through to start with so the build progresses quickly and easily. The Build Here we are at the end of page 1: Almost done, the robot arms (bar with clip) are a neat way of mounting a SNOT light/roll-bar: And done: From this perspective we have a good looking little dune buggy, but a look around raises a couple of issues. The side: Here you can see the light/roll-bar protrudes a good way forward and looks a little unbalanced. It is also sufficiently large that it pretty much blocks out the rear spoiler. Finally the step in the chassis between the front wheels and cockpit looks like its just begging to get caught on some rocks. Good thing he has a roll-bar right? The back: Back here we have two 1x1 cylinders as suspension detail which are a nice touch, and on the whole things look fairly right again- though the big roll bar ahead of the spoiler is still obvious. The Verdict Build: The build is simple, but with some nice touches- the roll-bar and horse frame mean it's not just vertical brick stacking: 6 Parts: Always nice to have printed bits. And for such a small selection, some interesting bits: 8 Figures: Meh, contemporaries of this set already had the basic racing S with stripes or zip pattern: 5 Playability: It has a good 'vroom' factor, so playability depends entirely on the setting you put it in: 7 Overall: For a pocket money set you can never expect too much and unsurprisingly the good bits are compromised by the limitations on size and part count. For me the proportions are not quite right for it to have the '4-wide charm' of other classic vehicles and the characterless fig is a letdown. It was never my favourite model as a kid- though got by as a loser of races, caller of emergency services and general whipping boy to my more prized sets. So overall an average score for an average set: 6 Sorry if this was your favourite childhood set- it just doesn't grab me.

    REVIEW: 70800 Getaway Glider

Actual set, or just Western parts pack? We're looking at… Set Title: Getaway Glider Set #: 70800 Theme: The LEGO Movie Pieces: 104 Minifigures: 3 Year of Release: 2014 Price at Release: USD 13 Browse the pictures? Flickr set INTRODUCTION This set always looked enticing. Not because the glider was great, but because the western minifigures looked terrific, it comes with a horse, and there are some neat rare parts like the cow horns and chicken in metallic. So is this anything more than a minifigure and parts pack? Let's see! BOX The box is small and boxy, with a nice western background. It's a small set, so what you see is what you get. And what you see looks enticing. On the back it seems that the glider is true to its name; it helped Emmet get away. But for some reason the robots ditched their weapons. The top gives us our character names - it seems the sheriff is trying to fool people about his mechanical identity, while the deputy doesn't care much. INSTRUCTIONS The instruction manual is small and comes folded over to fit in the box, both of which you'd probably expect. Plain color scheme, easy to follow, yada yada. Apparently I didn't take a picture of the sticker sheet, but you'll be able to see the four stickers on the finished model. MINIFIGURES As it often happens in small sets, the minifigures are a real highlight. The two western figures are terrific - the sheriff has an awesome new hat mould with extra-folded sides, and a wonderful new gigantic mustache piece that goes around his neck, like most beards. His torso and legs are also wonderful. The deputy also has terrific western printing without any grey skin showing, so it can easily be used for human minifigures. He features the Lone Ranger-style hat, exclusively in brown. Both robots also feature exclusive faces, which help diversify the evil bots across this line. I found it interesting that LEGO reverted to the old pistol mould (as opposed to the megabloks-ish Lone Ranger one), but it's great, since the old mould is really much better. The deputy has the new robot gun that appears in this line, a nice new addition to the LEGO weapons arsenal. Everybody has some appropriate back printing as well. EXTRA PARTS The extra parts are actually worth noting in this set because you get an extra cow horn (and this is only its second and appearance), and an EXTRA MUSTACHE! That's right, an EXTRA MUSTACHE! I was truly thrilled to see this. SET - HORSE & CACTUS In my opinion, one can never have too many horses. The more people you can mount on rides for a MOC, the better. So it's great to get horses in small sets, as that makes them easier to build up in great number. As usual, this one comes with bricks to "make it nude" and a saddle for the sheriff. The cactus is a cute little build, and green is always a desirable color, so I like it. SET - GLIDER Now for the "meat" of the set: the glider. Honestly, it's kind of cool looking, but I think most AFOLs would agree that the parts are more interesting than their sum. I mean, we're talking about five of the new 1x2 slope in dark brown, two of the new clip with hole for rod pieces in grey, two cattle horns, a dark brown barrel, and a metallic chicken. That's some great stuff for a small set. Even the four stickers are useful for western builders. I can't help feeling that this set was actually made for AFOLs craving some western stuff to help build western MOCs. I'm sure it wasn't actually, but it kind of feels like that with all the great parts that are worked in. Not much to see from the back. Plain and simple backside. COMPLETE SET and CONCLUSION Terrific minifigures and a terrific small parts selection for a low price. Need I say more? If you like western at all, go buy this set! It's that simple.
  18. Here is my another review from the new Chima set line, this time I’ll be reviewing Scorm’s Scorpion Stinger (quite the alliteration), I hope you will enjoy it and helps you get a thorough view of the set. Set Information Set Number: 70132 Pieces: 434 Minifigures: 3 Price: £34.99 / US$39.99 / EUR 39.99 / 11990 HUF Age range: 8-14 Set Description Avoid the poison balls launched by Scorm’s Scorpion Stinger! But first they must avoid the massive poisonous claws and mouth of Scorm’s speedy tri-wheel Scorpion Stinger. Beware of the Stinger’s flexible stinging tail jabbing down and escape with the CHI! Includes 3 minifigures with assorted weapons and accessories: Scorm, and Laval and Cragger in their new armor. This being the europian version only shows the set number, name and the age range. As you can see the Chima logo is new with bright lime green color and red spikes. Usually in the upper right corner we see the actual hero of the set but here Scorm’s head is presented with a shadowy look. The box shows Cragger and Laval running against a giant Scorpion car (are they crazy?) that is going to roll over them. The background is a foggy jungle. The back of the box is showing us the play functions described in 6 languages and shown in three boxes. There is another image which shows that Laval and Cragger is not so crazy after all and they flee from the Scorpion Stinger. And there is a picture which informs us that we get 5 Zamor spheres. Finally in the upper right corner we can see a Chima online game ad. On the top of the box we can see the 3 minifigs and Laval is shown is real 1:1 size. Content We get 4 numbered and one unnumbered bag, a DSS and two Instrucion booklets. The unnumbered bag contains the claws, Chi tubes and the rear wheel. There are really killer stickers here, they look insanely awesome and certainly add to the overall look. Minifigs First let’s start with the star of the set; Scorm, king of scorpions. He has a very detailed body printing, which looks a bit like a persian noble’s robe. The gold and black color scheme is very nice. Here he is with his unigue armor which comes only in this set, it looks wonderful and looks more like an ancient emperor here. His head is only one sided and the same as the other Scorions’. He is finished with a beatifully printed headpiece and a stinger tail. Look at that! Scorm also gets two guns which are named the Korrodors, they look great but compared to the fig they are too big. Here he is with my other Scorpion, Scutter I’m so loving these Scorpion figures! Note that the print on the headpieces is different! Now let’s move on to Laval, he comes with new printing as well, which looks really beautiful. There are so many detail on these tiny figs. He comes with a two sided head but since it’s not new, forgive me that I haven’t phtographed it. Now here he is with tons of accessories, note that his sword comes in black only in this set. Finally we have the Croc prince Cragger who made peace with Laval and they are besties again. His only new parts are the legs, which now have amazingly done crocheadkneepads. His torso is identical to Laval’s. He has a very neat bow-gun thingy. I really love the figs in this set, they all have new prints (some of them new parts) and have super accessories. Build Bags spilled, check. rare parts, check. I also encountered a piece which I haven’t seen, but after a little search I found out that it can be found in a few other sets as well. Let’s get on to the build, after bag 1 we have a strong mostly technic base and the 3 minifigures. With bag 2 we started to cover it and the Scorpion Stinger started to take shape. After bag 3 we have the scorpion head on the front and the cockpit. With bag 4 finished we add the pieces from the unnumbered bag as well and the ride is completed, Ta-daa! here is a shot of the spare parts, there is a galore of cheese slopes. The build was pretty straightforward with minimal repetition, my only problem is with TLG’s usual put-the-piece-here-and-after-you-can’t-access-it-put-a-sticker-on-it method… Other than that it was a nice relaxing build, with a few interesting techniques. The Set itself The Scorpion Stinger is a very unusual design. A 3 wheeled scorpion car. The designers made a great job recreating a scorpion shape. The head is very effective with the red diamond used for eyes, it’s one of my favorite parts on the vehicle. Here is a backshot showing the claw-moving mechanism. You have to push the dark-red plates and it opens the claws, and if you release it it closes, in this picture you can also see that there is plenty room here so Scorm can fit here easily with his stinger tail. Behind the cockpit there is a CHI crystal which provides energy for the vehicle. Now let me show the claw-opening function. et voilá! You can also place Scorm’s guns on the front. And with him finally in the cockpit, we can go and hunt some lion and croc meat. The Zamor acid spheres are stored. Dinner is prepared. Om-nom-nom Rating and Summary When I first saw images of this set I though it looked really bad, with the big rear wheel and just the whole concept wasn’t working for me. Then I checked a video review and came to really like the play functions and I just cama to like the look as well. Now it’s one of my favourite Chima vehicles, I really like scorpions and this vehicle resembles a scorpion very well. And there are the wonderful figs with their great weapons and accessories. I only can recommend this set, a very unusual design, great figs, fun play-functions and a reasonable price. Price 10/10 I don’t want to complain I got th eset 15% cheaper and it was totally worth it Parts 9/10 Rare and new parts, lots of useful pieces in great colors. Build 9/10 It was a smooth, straightforward build, I was expecing a bit more complexity and there is my issue with the sticker adding steps that I stated above. Minifigures 10/10 High quality figs, one of them is unique to this set, the rest have new printing and cool weapons. Playability 10/10 Claw-opening mechanism, ball shooter tail, the stinger tail is poseable (if you miss a step on purpose which locks the tail), the car can eat the intruders and the two fractions can fight, also the vehicle is sturdy and swooshable. Thanks for reading the review, hope you had a good time.

    REVIEW: 60041 Crook Pursuit

Hello everyone, It has been a very long time since I last written a Town or City review and I am extremely glad to bring this small review to share with our lovely community. I was itching for an impulse built and this set came along just fine when I happened to acquire it for less than 20% off the SRP in Singapore. So, does this set worth my time and attention? Let's read on to find out. Name: 60041 Crook Pursuit Theme: LEGO System / City Year: 2014 Pieces: 38 Minifigs: 2 minifigures Price: USD $6.99, GBP 4.99, EURO 5.99, SGD $10.90 Resources: Brickset, BrickLink An original box image of the 60041 Crook Pursuit Back view of the original box image of the 60041 Crook Pursuit New LEGO City 2014 - smallest police set This is the smallest box set among the new City Police 2014 sets. The whole concept is pretty simple and the objective will be for the policeman to catch the crook while the crook is to attempt his escape and get himself away from the policeman. This set could also serve as an useful sampler for the new in the not-so-new Police Theme. The content of the sealed box The sealed box comes with one mint sealed package, a sticker sheet for the motorbike and an instruction manual to guide the user to build up the set. After the building is completed, these are the remaining spare parts. I am quite surprised to see a spare motorbike tyre wheel among the spare parts. It is something new to me. Laid out the building parts Useful parts Apart from acquiring the motorbike, the above useful parts are one of the main reasons why I choose this set. Despite of the low parts count, I am extremely pleased to see quite a number of useful parts especially the inclusion of the four pieces of 1x2 medium dark flesh brick with masonry details on it. The two printed 100 dollars tiles are also great, and the handcuffs, crowbar and backpack are some very welcoming accessories for the city settings. Front view of the Good vs Bad minifigures There is nothing significance with the minifigures except that they look right in a typical policeman uniform and a crook in his jail outfit with torn sleeves. You may want to note that the new Police Motorcycle officer actually appear in three new sets, while the crook is an exclusive minifigure that only come in this set with a backpack. It is also nice to know that both of these minifigures come with highly details printed back-prints. Where do you think you are running to? The Policeman and his motorbike Personally, this set is pretty decent. I love how I am able to acquire a stand-alone police motorcycle as a stand-alone set for anyone who will like to build up a decent traffic police patrols in their Police Force. The last time that we had saw something similar, was the 7235 Police Motorcycle which was first released in 2005. It is welcoming for city folks to be able to acquire this similar design again. Building up the fence You are not running away! To conclude, this is a simple and direct set where you are able to get your own police motorbike, two minifigures and a bunch of useful city parts and accessories to use later on. All in all, I am very pleased with this set and it is certainly great to see the police motorbike to be able to acquire on its own once more, especially for those who have missed the earlier 2005 release. Summary review Playability: 9/10 (Fun to play with in a simple cop vs robber scenario.) Design: 9/10 (Great useful parts with a welcoming motorbike to add in.) Price: 9/10 (The price is definitely reasonable when you are able to get a slight discount on it.) Overall: 9/10 (Reasonable pricing and fun playing experience.) I gave it a "5" based on my Review Score Card. What about yours? I hope every one of you enjoyed reading this simple review of mine. Comments and Criticisms are strongly welcomed. 20. I was rather interested in this polybag. Polybag availability can be iffy anywhere so I wasn't sure if I could get it. When I found it in my box I was quite excited to have it! Set Information: Name: Super Secret Police Enforcer Set Number: 30282 Pieces: 40 Price: $4.99 Ages: 6-12 Minifigs: 1 Theme: The LEGO Movie Year of Release: 2014 Bricklink Brickset Flickr Set Baggy: There's not much on the front of this bag, nice and neat. The speeder, for lack of a better word, is placed on a rather neutral background, I think it's a construction site. The back has the usual translations and warnings. Contents: Five extra parts. I wonder why LEGO chose the trans-black visor... Manual: The manual is a very nice blue and yellow setup, it reminds me of the construction sets. There are six steps on this page, and you've mostly finished the build. Four more steps on this page, along with two sub-assemblies. There's also a large ad for several other The LEGO Movie sets. Minifigure: While I really like the uni-eyed robot, this guy is growing on me. His helmet only comes in one other set, and this is a much cheaper way to get it. The torso is nicely detailed with a great badge that matches his helmet logo, and his knee-pads and pockets on his legs are great. On his back he has a radio with a wire going to his helmet. I guess what I don't like about this guy is that his head is a "v" shape, just not my style. This gun is great! I thought the stock would be longer, and I'm not sure if I like the clip on the top, but I think I can ignore it. Finished Model: No build pictures with this model as I showed you the manual. This is a very compact, fun little craft. The lines are great, and the angles flow well. Good work LEGO. While simple, this speeder is quite spectacular. The simple lines, flowing curves, and over all great shape lend this to be a great model. I noticed on the bag that LEGO intends for there to be three thrusters on this model, though only two have trans pieces to represent that. The back is not really for viewing, plus you won't see it when you're swooshing it. Conclusion: This is one of my favorite polybags that I've gotten in a long time. It's very, very fun to swoosh around the house. Like I said, the minifigure has grown on me as I've written this review, he looks better with his helmet on for sure. While the build is simple, and there are no great parts, it all goes together to make a great, fun little set. Good work LEGO. (Now to find out who designed it.) Ratings: Playability: 8/10 There's not a lot beyond swooshing it around. Yes I do love swooshing stuff that much. Design: 8/10 I think LEGO probably could have squeezed in a flick missile, but I like where the set is now. Price: 9/10 Not the best PPP ratio, but the design for such a small number of parts is great. Minifigures: 8/10 He's got a rather rare helmet. Parts: 6/10 Nothing new or spectacular in this set. Total: 39/50 How he drives in a straight line with only one hand on steering is beyond me. Like this review? Want to learn how to make good reviews? Then join the Reviewers Academy!
  21. When I first heard of this set, I wasn't at all interested. Small polybag, with Emmet and a rock? Not really interesting. I was planning on getting the Cloud Cuckoo set, so Emmet wasn't a draw for me. This set was in my package of sets including The LEGO Movie Press Kit. So I can't argue with that! Let's see how the set is. Set Information: Name: The Piece Of Resistance Set Number: 30280 Pieces: 33 Price: S@H Promotion Ages: 6-12 Minifigs: 1 Theme: The LEGO Movie Year of Release: 2014 Bricklink Brickset Flickr Set Baggy: I really like the layout of The LEGO Movie set art. We have The LEGO Movie logo in the upper right corner as well as some movie frames showing numbers. This is the European bag, and it doesn't have any age or part counts on the front. The back is full of the usual stuff, warnings in every language, and The LEGO Movie translated too. Contents: Here are the extra pieces. Rather boring, but not bad for a polybag. Manual: The manual has five, six if you want to count the instructions for Emmet, steps on this page. The blue and yellow printing seems fitting since this set is based in a construction site. On the back are four more steps, as well as a warning not to launch the rock bit at anyone head, though how you would do that I don't know. The other half of the manual is taken up by an ad for three of The LEGO Movie sets. Minifigure: Emmet is the same as each other Emmet made. While it is a generic construction worker design, after having seen the movie, it's much more special to me. I love his badge with his name on it, as well as his rather classic exp<b></b>ression. From the back you can really see the new hair mold well, the Piece of Resistance blocks up a lot of the printing on his back too. His alternate expression is nice, I love having new faces, as it gives me more choices in scared heads. The back print on Emmet is some reflective silver bits. Finished Model: The completed set. It's really simple and took me less than five minutes to build. Though I do like the combination of colors and slopes which make for an interesting look overall. It's really just a rock, though the 1x1 plates in trans-yellow do break up the monotony. LEGO has done a rather good job with their sloping in making an interesting shape. And the other side, this little bit is all functionally. Functions: The main feature of this set is "finding" the Piece of Resistance. By pushing this piece here. The rock piece goes flying. It actually launches fairly far, this is how far it went. I didn't push that hard, if you push harder it would probably go farther. Conclusion: This neat little polybag isn't terrible. Sure it just includes Emmet and a rock bit, but I could see some young boys wanting a cheap set with Emmet and the Piece of Resistance. I believe that this set is all about the functionally of "finding" the Piece. Which is a good idea, since this is a big moment in the film and not at all represented in the film. Overall I like, it. Not the best polybag I own, but not bad either. Ratings: Playability: 5/10 This set is all about the function of "finding" the Piece of Resistance. It's not a terrible function, but this throwing design has been done before. Design: 7/10 I like the color combination and the angles that the slopes make. Price: 7/10 I can see this set retailing for about $4, which isn't a bad price. I can see kids buying this just so they have Emmet. Minifigures: 6/10 It's just Emmet. He's generic but designed well, and I rather like him after see the movie. Parts: 8/10 Nothing to interesting, I do like the slopes that were included. More slopes are always nice, especially when I'm doing rock work. Total: 33/50 It works quite nicely as a Emmet flinger too. Review: 60059 Logging Truck

This review is for the set 60059: You get 2 bags, 1 very small sticker sheet, and 1 manual: In common with other 2014 trucks, the Minifigs and truck chassis are in one bag, the wheels and truck body in another: Contents of bag 1: Minifigs from bag 1, both come with an appropriately lumberjack-like appearance (the figure on the left has the kind of facial hair that would also fit in well with a Medieval or Victorian era set): Fire Chief: Nice to see a familiar face! Lumberjack (center): This is coming back in style, I swear! Lumberjack (right): WHAAAAT? Chainsaw: WHHIRRRRRRR!!!! If you've read my other reviews, you know I much prefer brickbuilt to stickerbuilt grilles, and this set does not disappoint. The protective structure on the cab roof is quite nice as well: The crane on the back is particularly well done, with many points of articulation for a variety of poses: In my opinion, this is a superb set. The only complaint I have is that you cannot "fold" the crane for travel, as is often seen on trucks with this kind of crane, but other than that this set is great. 9.5/10 Also, this set nicely complements the lumberjacks and equipment from last year's 60021 Heliplane:

    Review: 60060 Auto Transporter

Here's my review for Lego set 60060, Auto Transporter: Contents of set are 3 bags, 3 manuals, and 1 (very small) sticker sheet: Bag 1 makes the 2 cars being transported, as well as the 2 minifigs and their accessories: I really like the 2 cars, I think they're quite stylish (especially the red and black one). The driver's a fairly generic truck driver figure (the mirrored shades are a nice touch, however) while the car dealer seems to be going for the "sleazy car salesman" look (or alternately is a huge fan of Gordon Gekko from "Wall Street"). The clipboard is made from attaching a sticker from the sticker sheet to a 2x2 SNOT brick piece. The 2 figures close-up. Would YOU buy a car from this man? Bag 2 makes the truck, minus the upper level: In bag 3 are the pieces for the trailer as well as the upper part of the truck. One thing I really liked was the use of the ladder pieces in gray to make the "tracks" for the cars to drive onto: The upper levels of the truck and trailer lower for loading like so (note the yellow hook to secure cars on the upper levels): In order to load the top level, the bottom level must be empty: With the top level loaded, you can now drive a car onto the lower level: The set only comes with 2 cars, so if you want to load it fully you must use extra cars: Overview of what you get in a set, truck and trailer, 2 cars, 2 minifigs, clipboard and briefcase: In my opinion, this is a great set. i really like the look of the truck and LOVE the way the upper level raise and lower. The 2 minifigs are perfect for the set (although perhaps a "buyer" minifig [or minifigs] could have been included as well?) As far as having only 2 cars goes, while part of me wishes that they had included all 4 cars for the truck, it may have either raised the price too high or been too repetitive to build 4 of the same car in one kit (and this kit already has plenty of repetition as it is). My score? 9/10.
  24. Airplane, or plumbing van? It's up to you in… Set Title: The Flying Flusher Set #: 70811 Theme: The LEGO Movie Pieces: 351 Minifigures: 3 Year of Release: 2014 Price at Release: USD 30 Browse the pictures? Flickr set INTRODUCTION This was another "neither here nor there" set for me. Besides for the Doctor figure, which looked cool, I didn't have many thoughts one way or another about it. Let's see what kind of thoughts building the thing will give me. BOX The art is pretty unremarkable. It's an airplane that I guess shoots plungers and vaguely looks like it was made out of a truck, but not even that much. The alternate model in the corner looks much more interesting. The back shows both models, including the hilarious exploding porta potty. The plane seems to pale in comparison. Some nice-looking minifigures in our lineup - nice overalls and a new doctor print. I look forward to these. CONTENTS Again, no numbered bags in these 2-in-1 sets. I spy some nice white and blue here. All of the 2-in-1s have three booklets: one for the micromanager, a "number 2" for the flying a machine, and a third for the alternate build. This set has got a small, inoffensive sticker sheet. Same dully-colored, easy-to-follow instructions as the rest. MINIFIGURES Nice guys here: Plumber Joe, his apprentice Alfie, and Dr. McScrubs. Great prints all around; I believe Joe's face is new, and McScrubs' definitely is. Great to get the hair on the Dr. now in dark brown. McScrubs has a hilarious alternate scared face, and Joe has some nice bushy eyebrows. Everybody has some good back printing too. SET - MICROMANAGER Like the micromanager in the Castle Cavalry, this guy can fold up. But it looks kind of helpless this way. Time to fold out his legs! Isn't it just adorable? These things are very endearing. This one seems to have a nerdy, braniac personality to me. Something about the little legs and big head - very thoughtful. This one doesn't need tail lights since it walks. SET - FLYING FLUSHER Building the plane leaves a fair number of parts leftover. Nothing all the exciting, besides the door perhaps, but here they are: I'll be up-front, I really don't care for this model. It's dull, it's too boxy for a plane, and it doesn't even look that much like a truck converted into a plane, which I think is the point of these. The targeting chair on the back is a nice assembly. It's about the only thing that really looks good on this model. The sides open, but there's nothing in there besides some poles. I guess in this picture it looks kind of chubby and cute, but it'd be a lot nicer if it was flatter and more sleek. The color scheme is fine, but doesn't particularly pop. The front has a Joe's Plumbing logo on the very thick wheel assembly. The other logo is behind the pilot. Not much in the cockpit - just enough room for the pilot. SET - TRUCK The truck also leaves a few leftovers, including one of the new inverted dome pieces! Yum. First to build is the porta potty. It looks great! It uses some nice new parts too, like the big wedge piece newly redesigned with complete stud compatability on the sides, and a bunch of the 1x2 slope piece. The back has a nice little detail of vents to get the smells out. The inside is great too. The toilet is a nice design, and the designer included a flushing button and toilet paper roll. A lot of detail packed into a small space. You can add the water flames to put it out of commission if you wish. The trucks is very chubby and cute. This color scheme looks nice on a truck (almost police-like, isn't it), and it does look like the type of van that would be used for a plumber. The big logo is lovely, as is the assymetry of the stuff on the roof. It's got two doors, which keep it from looking bland all around. It's a pleasant truck from all angles. The back door provides access to te ginormous plungers, needed for ginormous potty explosions! The side door provides access to… this thing. I have no idea what this is. It doesn't go anywhere - it's stuck down to the truck. Can anybody shed light on it? The entire interior is open, which actually fits for a van like this. There's plenty of room for both plumbers in there, as demonstrated. Alfie just has to be a bit uncomfortable, but he's an apprentice, so it comes with the territory. COMPLETE SET and CONCLUSION Overall, a very pleasant set when it comes to the truck and porta potty model. The plane is complete bleh, but as a truck this set is pretty nice. Especially for City builders, this is an unusual subject for a truck, and the minifigures are very nice and handy. Are a truck, porta potty, and robot really worth $30? I don't know, but it's a very nice truck and porta potty, and a cute robot, with plenty of parts. So I guess so. Two more 2-in-1s to go!

Review: The LEGO Movie Press Kit

The LEGO Movie Press Kit. Those words send collectors running. When I heard that I was getting one I was ecstatic, I was also hoping Benny was in it. I also wasn't sure what to expect, this set wasn't well documented, but I knew it would be something good. A HUGE thank you to LEGO for sending me this set. (And 30280, 30281, and 30282) I am very privileged to have gotten to review these sets. Set Information: Name: The LEGO Movie Press Kit Set Number: N/A Pieces: 168 Price: N/A Ages: N/A Minifigures: 9 Theme: The LEGO Movie Year of Release: 2014 Brickset Flickr Set Box: I was sent The LEGO Movie Press Kit, I wasn't sure what was going to be in it, but this is what was in it! Read the other reviews: 30280, 30281, and 30282. While box is technically correct, it is really a tin. Which is unusual as I do not believe that LEGO has packaged a set in a tin before. Surprisingly, this set has some information on it, part count, name, and age suggestion. The image is The LEGO Movie's main poster, which seems fitting. The back is covered in warnings, as well as the first poster we got for The LEGO Movie, showing Emmet. One of the sides of the sleeve shows Batman, Benny, Good/Bad Cop, Metal Beard, and Unikitty. As well as their names and the actors names that voice them. The other side is the same, however it lists, Emmet, Wyld Style, Vitruvius, and President Business. The lid of the tin has a sticker on it, with the LEGO logo and The LEGO Movie logo. Contents: Inside there is the bag of parts, the instruction manual, and the piece of cardboard for the background. The front shows The LEGO Movie logo on a stage screen with the curtain pulled back. This side shows the curtain closed if you want to display it that way. The pile of parts! The bag was quite full. Manual: The front of the manual has a very roughly rendered image of the set. If you notice Wyld Style doesn't have her hair print, but Wonder Woman has her decoration... The instructions for the set are presented on a blue brick background, which is quite pleasing and simple. Someone would ask for this eventually, so here is the part page! The back just has the blue brick background and the LEGO logo. Minifigures: Since there are nine minifigures in this set, we shall go though them by the row they are sitting in. First up we have, Wyld Style, Emmet, and Batman. My bag was open and my Wyld Style hood was missing. (Kim if you're reading this, could I get another?) But it almost works better this way, she can sit in her chair better. I am still fond of Wyld Style's hoodie, it just looks good. All three figures have back print, which is a bit unusual for minifigures. You notice Emmet's alternate expression here. With their headgear removed, you can see their alternate expressions. Emmet is really freaking out. Next is Good/Bad Cop, President Business, and Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is exactly the same as her LEGO set self. Bad Cop's badge has the same logo as the bots from the movie. President Business is a fun minifigure, I quite like his very blocky hair. Wonder Woman and Bad Cop have back print. Bad cop is a rather rare figure, and his helmet is a new mold. President Business has his robot head for his alternate expression. Vitruvius, Ice Cream Jo, and the Gallant Guard. I was very excited to get Vitruvius, he's a very pivotal character in the movie. The others I wasn't super interested in but would come to like. Ice Cream Jo, and the Gallant Guard have fitting back print. Vitruvius' hair is very complex. Only Vitruvius has an alternate expression, a rather sad one too. His tye-dye t-shirt is neat too. The Build: Four steps in and you've only just started on building the base. A few steps later the first row is taking shape. Midway through, the theater is taking shape. More of the layers for the chairs are added. Each minifigure had it's own instruction page, then you added them. Finished Model: I think this model is meant to be viewed with all of the minifigures on it. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of generic parts. The fun thing with this model is that there was a promotional stand where you could put your face in a hole and be "in" the scene. Wonder Woman doesn't fit in her chair quite right. The simple way LEGO built the background in, is quite good. I would like to see more of this and less stickered parts. Vitruvius' hair fits nicely over the chair so he can sit! Conclusion: This set is an interesting conundrum. It wasn't available to the public so I think it is a must like set for me. That said, it isn't all that bad as a minifigure pack. I really like that LEGO didn't use a sticker for the background. As a promotional item, it does its job well. A bunch of minifigures from the movie, and the logo prominently displayed. Ratings: Playability: 0/10 No play value at all in this. Unless you just like minifigures. Design: 8/10 I'm giving this a rather high rating as I really like the use of the cardboard piece. Price: 0/10 Price isn't applicable here. Minifigures: 10/10 The sheer number of figures that are in this set is great, several of them are rather rare too. Parts: 5/10 Nothing super special in this set. Total: 23/50 30 Again big thanks to LEGO for making this review possible! You can read the other reviews: 30280, 30281, and 30282 Like this review?
