Review of City of Wonders Gift Sets in Malaysia.

Thanks! Malaysia is a beautiful country. Thanks @WhiteFang. Its my pleasure to do review for Eurobricks community and I'm glad you liked it! Yeah, the display in Kuala Lumpur was great with large MOC scene of new city sets. Thanks! The colours are great and the flower looked so real! Thanks! I am wondering an annual event would be nice. Thanks! Sorry for the color mistake, I've rectified it to lime green, thanks for pointing it out.

Review of City of Wonders Gift Sets in Malaysia.

Wau (Traditional Kite) Wau is actually a Malaysian moon-kite that is traditionally flown by men in the Malaysian state of Kelantan. In Bahasa Melayu we called it 'Wau Bulan'. There are actually other types of Wau such as cat kite (Wau Kucing) which was used as MAS (Malaysian Airlines) logo. Lets start building! There are 139 pieces in this set and I suppose this set has the biggest number of pieces among all. The back of the box are identical to all four sets, lets open up and play. Wow, the pieces here are quite small but very colourful! Benny can't wait already to start 'Build a spaceship'! *Benny is not included in this set. This is a very colourful set and I personally liked the pearl gold pieces. There is a special part here as you can see labeled as inverted curves, quite rarely found in normal LEGO sets. See, Benny is so touched that he finally can build a spaceship. Step one is to build the base of the Wau. The colour matching is very nice using black as the border. Now the supporting structure of the Wau is installed. In Bahasa Melayu we called it the 'Rangka'. As we go up higher, we need another horizontal pillar to support the borders of the kite and the design of these pillars are very nice with patterns inside. This is a quick tip to build four of these pieces. Its quite hard to manipulate the small 1x1 parts, so you can build three 2x2 red plates first, then add on with those 1x1 plates. Now Benny is asking why is it not blue? But you can already see the drawings on the Wau. Very impressive build! Lastly we build the yellow cone and stand. The Wau here is actually connected part by part like you can see in the picture. Tada! Benny is back to happy face as his spaceship is done! It looks really nice and accurately designed to look like a real Wau Bulan. The small pieces of 1x1 plates combined into an art pattern at the body of the Wau. I really liked it very much. Pros This is an art piece I would say. You can literally 'draw' a painting on this kite. The pattern of the Wau was nicely painted by bricks and plates. The building technique has a nice finishing border and seamless. Cons Hmm, the cons of the set I think is the small parts build. Its quite tedious to handle 1x1 so much but with the design so nice, I'm not complaining. I believe I can fly! Ketupat Ketupat is a Malaysian delicacies that is made from rice that has been wrapped in a wovenpalm leaf pouch and boiled. As the rice cooks, the grains expand to fill the pouch and the rice becomes compressed. This method of cooking gives the ketupat its characteristic form and texture of a rice dumpling. Let's start 'cooking'! This box contains 126 pieces, and you get two diamond shaped ketupat in this set. Only three colours here, green, white and lime green. Alright, lord business is hungry already. *Lord Business is not included in this set. As you can see here, there are lots of plates in three colours mentioned before. These parts will make the ketupat looks more delicious with curves. Lord Business: Hey, get rid of the rat! We are cooking foods here! The first and second step involves building the 'rice' of the ketupat. *Cleaner, Lord business, rat and green space guy are not included in this set. In the third step we start to wrap the rice with olive green leaves. Now that the delicious ketupat starts to take shape, Lord Business is very happy now! Lastly, lets put a good wrap to the rice inside and we are ready to serve! Eh wait, you need to make another one. Haha. After building another one, and these delicious ketupat are ready to be served! Are you sure you are not getting more? Two is better than one! Pros By building this set I learnt how to combine two studless surface face to face. The use of green and olive green colour in this set matches perfectly and you get double happiness in this set! Cons Hmm food. A delicacy so nice to eat got nothing that I don't like. Haha. Outdoor shot of the 'Ketupat'. Shouldn't it be served in a plate? Review summary Playability: 6/10 - There are nothing to play with actually, and if you do play with these, they will break apart.Design / Building Experience: 9/10 - The design and building techniques are quite useful for MOCers.Overall: 9/10 - The design of the flower, village house, kite and the 'Ketupat' are very similar to the real ones. It would be very nice to be displayed on your desk for iconic Malaysian culture. I love the color richness and very recognizable builds here. Thanks to LUG of Malaysia (LOM) and I hope you enjoy the review! Please leave your thoughts and comment below, thank you.
  3. Hi, I'm glad to present my final review for my graduation. Thanks to all the teachers in Reviewers Academy and lets go into the set. Introduction When was this? Two years ago? Three? December of 2001 was really 16 years ago when The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring premiered. Time really flies but this LEGO set came quite late after the movie which dated back to 2012 May. Like what Gandalf said in the picture above, I literally had no memory of this place as 16 years was too long ago. In the movie, the Fellowship of the Ring was drove into the Mines of Moria by Saruman's magic that brought down the snowy mountain. Lets greet the dwarves inside the Mine. "Speak Friend, and ENTER." Frodo reminded Gandalf of this riddle written on the door to speak out "Mellon" (Elvish word for friend) and the box seal opened magically. The box art was very nice and the first thing you'll see is that blue colored creature holding a club with chains. That's a very nice big fig in this set! The back of the box was the fighting scene in Moria and the play features of this set. At the side of the box you can see six minifigures of the set in which mostly are exclusive to this set. Overview Name: 9473 The Mines of Moria Theme: The Lord of the Rings Year: 2012 Pieces: 776 Minifigures: 6 (+1 Cave Troll and 2 skeleton) Price: £69.99 / $79.99 / 79.99€ Resources: Brickset Instruction Manual Inside the box you get two booklets of instructions with my favorite soft binding. Quite thin I would say. I think its because this set is not so focused on the build with so many exclusive figures. The best part of the binding was that I can fold them like this and not damaging them. So I prefer more booklets rather than a thick dictionary. The Build "And they called it a Mine, A Mine!" "This is no mine, its a tomb!" Boromir said this as he saw so many skeletons and discarded weapons on the floor when they walked in the entrance. Saddened by the barbaric scene of his dead kin, Gimli rushed into this room with a tomb with elvish inscriptions. "Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria." There is no printed brick in this set. So all the inscriptions are stickers. In Book one, you get to build Balin's tomb, stick the stickers to the book and a well. Both the well and tomb are with play features that flicks open the cover of the tomb revealing a skeleton and the panel which can be pulled at the black 1x2 modified plate to make the skeleton with bucket fall. I love this small builds as the inscriptions are the same ones from the movie. Just that the scribe wasn't thick enough. Pippin's curiosity was the culprit that brought danger to the company. You can recreate the scene by just putting the respective minifigures beside the build. Pippin is ready to call the orcs and Gimli is filled with sadness and anger. These are the minifigures that we get from book one. I feel that this set is very worthy of the figures. You get five exclusives and two skeleton. Great bargain! With all these included, I won't complain about putting so many stickers in the set. Proceed to Book two. This is the place where they battled the Cave Troll in the movie. There are three parts connected by modular pins, with a deserted library and a treasure box underneath the center part. I like the design of the walls and the similarity to the scene in the movie was spot on! The scene actually shown in the movie for just a glance of one or two seconds only and LEGO managed to bring it out to live. There are a few play features here. The two levers that will lean the pillars forward and push down the large pillars targeting the Cave Troll. The other one is to push out the treasure box which is quite non-related to the movie I think. I'm quite satisfied with the design of the wall of the cave but not the size of it. I think a lot of MOCers out there will think of building the whole cave but what I see in the wild were only Batcaves were built. Hmm... The other half of bag one was this cave door that blocked those filthy orcses for a little while. We got a bronze axe here to put on the door to prevent them from opening the door and an Elvish inscription. I apologize for the lost of the wooden stickers here but without them it still look like a messy old door. The design of the door was nice and at the same time preserve the feeling of broken woods. The walls with dark grey and a few profile bricks nicely portrayed the look of the cave from the movie. "They have a Cave Troll." Two arrows shot at the door after Boromir peeped through the opening of the door. The antistuds showing here is not quite nice if you are looking at this side. There will be some work to do here for MOCers out there. "Orcs!" Legolas screamed out to get everyone ready for battle. "Let them come. There is one dwarf yet in Moria who still draws breath!" So Gimli stood on Balin's tomb and welcomes the attack. *The fellowship minifigs are not all in this set. (But Most) Ready, steady, here come the orcs! Fight! *Only Pippin is included in this set. Hey! Wrong door you fool! *Goblin King is not in this set too. Grand Entry of the main character in this set. I like it very much that the door is designed in his size. The cave troll fits nicely in the door when it opens but in the movie I think he broke the door. The sticker on the side of the wall here with two sets of eyes should be placed at the door but quite nice from this view so I'm not complaining. Here lies a play feature which you can flick the technic part to literally break the wall. Fight!!! We are outnumbered! Looks like the orcs are outnumbered here. I think more variants of orcs added would be nice here. This is the full view of the finished build. It does look like a cave if you arrange them as such but the dilemma of making it full will be not able to take photos in minifigures view. So I think this set is very well adjusted of the figure to build ratio. But for displaying the set, it is taking a lot of space and the parts are four separated compartments. So you might need a base plate to contain all of them into one unit. Lets move on to the minifigures. Minifigures Gimli, son of Gloin. He is a great minifigure despite being common. He is holding a big and a small axe which makes him not so stable but luckily the long bar can act as a stick to make him stand. The beard mold was very detailed but it covers all of his torso, so i took it out to see clearer. The logo of the belt resembles the shape of an axe. Without the manly beard now he looks like a boy. He has an alternate angry face. Hmm the angry face was kind of unnoticeable due to the large beard and helmet. Peregrin Took. He is exclusive to this set, so if you want to complete your Hobbit collection, this set is a must buy. The print of this minifigure is very detailed with his scarf and the dark blue coat. The shire belt is also a very nice print. The facial expression is very nice that they include the scared face after he was scolded by Gandalf. The cape is also specially designed to fit the height of a hobbit. Legolas Greenleaf. He is not exclusive to this set. He is wearing an olive green outfit which is the same in the movie, with all the Elven curves at the torso. I like it that the print that extended to the legs actually made him looks taller. The Elvish hair is also very nicely carved but it was too big and blocking his head to be fixed to look at the center. He also comes with alternate angry face. Here come the bad guys. Ironically both of them are exclusive to the set. The skin colors come in olive green and they have two face prints that looks very similar. I've mentioned the difference in the above picture. The torso and legs are identical. To make them slightly different I usually display them with different faces, one with the large blunt sword and shield, other with that mace. The brown color orc is for comparison. They look green maybe because of chronic darkness in the mine? This is also an exclusive minifigure in this set. Boromir. He is wearing a blue outfit with a belt just like in the movie but printing a Gondorian horn at the back of the torso would be a nice addition to this very nice minifigure. He came with a long sword and a special shield designed just for him. I like him so much as he is packed with so much exclusiveness in one minifigure! Nooooo!!! Don't shoot him please... Tadaa!!! This is the main reason for me to buy this set. This exclusive giant is a very nice big fig ever designed. The legs and head is one piece, and both arms are connected by this clicking pin which will hold the position of the arm if they are lifted up. There are two studs on top of his head for Legolas to kill him with style. The muscles on the arms are nicely molded and the hand can easily fit a minifigure for him to hold on to. He came with a brick built club and a chain which the orcs used to 'tame' him. They clearly didn't do a good job at this. The face is nicely printed with nice canines pointing at the lower jaw for a scary face. Overall this is a perfect big fig for a cave troll. I love it. For comparison, The Hulk and Goblin King are here to compete for size. Cave troll is considered medium here with Goblin King largest and The Hulk is smallest for the big fig category. Pippin is smallest here and he should be scared. Haha. This is the complete line up of the minifigures in this set. Its very awesome and worthy to say that only Legolas and Gimli can be found in other sets. The rests are exclusive. This alone would be a killer reason to buy this set. 'Orcsssss!!!' Conclusion This is one of my favorite Lord of the Rings LEGO set. In my opinion, the set is well balanced in the minifigure selection and the size of build. I got most of the member of the Fellowship of the Ring just by buying this set. The only downside is that I always dream of MOCing the whole cave but hard to come true. Do share in the comment here if you come across any Moria MOC. Review summary Playability: 6/10 - I think the play features here are for only kids to play with. Design / Building Experience: 6/10 - The cave is quite easy to build with lots of long bricks. Minifigures: 10/10 - Most of them are exclusive. Really can't argue with that in this set. I love them so much! Price / Value for money: 9/10 - This set is worthy for the cave troll and Boromir and Pippin. Overall: 9/10 - The design of the door, well and the coffin are very nicely done. Just that you might need to get another set to make the cave bigger and wider. The Fellowship of the Ring.

Review: 9473 The Mines of Moria

Thanks @WhiteFang! This was the last lotr set that I bought. The hesitation was that I'm having the same thought that the built is not interesting. It once became my spare bricks too, but after I took it out for rebuild, all the design of the well, Balin's tomb, the side hall and the door are quite similar to the scenes in the movie. So I've agreed to myself that I will not dismantle it anymore but to stack them together to save space. Haha Thanks @Tom Bombadil! I'm glad you enjoyed the review! I told the story again to refresh the great scenes from the movie near two decades ago. Yeah I even think they left Hobbit LEGO sets incomplete. Should have more armored dwarves. I will slowly do more reviews for the old sets, stay tuned! You can't resist 10,000 Uruk Hai standing at a base plate, can you? Haha Golden age. I wished I have the time machine.

    [Review] 30611 R2-D2 Polybag

Hi today I'm reviewing the very nice and exclusive version of the famous Astromech Droid, R2-D2 in polybag 30611. Overview Name: 30611 R2-D2 Theme: Star Wars Year: 2017 Pieces: 70 Minifigures: One Brick Built Figure Price: Free from shop.LEGO.com and LEGO Brand Stores with qualifying LEGO Star Wars purchases, May 2017. This is the front and back for the polybag. You can see R2 is standing on the sand scene, maybe going different direction from C3PO after a little fight. At the back of the pack, you can peek through the translucent part and see the head of R2 hiding inside. Open the polybag and bring out my beloved R2-D2! I liked the design of the polybag art where you can feel the heat of the desert already. *C3PO and Jawa are not included in this set. They will be in pictures below for illustration purpose. The plastic bag material is quite fragile, so you need to be very gentle or else the whole thing will be thorn apart and you'll need to pick up the pieces scattered on the floor. The first thing I took out was the big head of R2. Inside you'll get a small bag of smaller parts, an instruction booklet, and other parts listed in the picture below. *C3PO and Jawa and small R2D2 are not included in this set. They will be in pictures below for illustration purpose. These are the parts included in the set. Quite a few technic pins and parts for articulation and curved top bricks for the body of R2-D2. Wake up R2, the Jawas are going to sell us or melt us! I prefer selling, at least we got a new master. Lets start building. The first step will have something like a post box as the main frame of the body. Then you will build the outer curve of the body fixed to the post box. Oh now you get a photocopy machine as the body. The jumpers are for the vents to be attached later on. C3PO is holding the bottom part of R2 that will hold its center leg. Now you'll build both R2's right and left legs and attached to the body via the technic pin. See how C3PO is so impatient that he asked me to put R2D2 together faster. These two are the printed parts in this set and I really love the dome shaped head! So nicely printed and it has a slight metallic feel of the silver colour. Here is the comparison between the brick built R2 head and the minifigure R2 head. The difference is that there is a stud on top of the smaller R2 and all other printings are quite the same. Tadaaa! Now we are completed the build of R2D2! The Jawas are taking them in their sandcrawler to seek for new buyers. These are the extra parts for this set. Just in case you lose one of these. As you can see in the picture, the brick built R2 will lean forward at a gradient as the center leg is longer than both right and left. Unlike the minifigures, this R2 cannot stand straight unless you remove the center part of the leg and the clip. However, I liked the fact that its head can be rotated 360 degrees, just like in the movies! *Light blue R2D2(10225) and dark blue R2D2(75136) are not included in this set. They will be in pictures below for illustration purpose. Now I've removed the center leg and you can pose it like others with any degree of inclination you want. I like it so much that he is so flexible! Oh no! The Jawas are catching us! Run faster R2! Haha, now who's laughing? Summary reviewPlayability: 8/10 You can rotate the head and make those beeping sound to make him alive. This is something that minifigure R2D2 can't do. This is the main reason to get this polybag.Design: 9/10 The printing of the dome shaped head is top notch and very nicely done. But I think the torso part can have more printing for more details. Price: 10/10 Its a free promotional item! Overall: 9/10 I love this polybag rather than having a minifig inside only. Astromech collectors must not miss this set as it is a great addition to those cute little droids parade. Conclusion This polybag is very nice to be collected if you are a Star Wars fan. The built is very accurate instead of bulky feel. It has a very sleek design and very detailed in this size. Now I hope there is a brick built C3PO to be his partner. Thanks for reading!

  9. Very nice review @WhiteFang! As always, you made me wana buy these ninjago cmfs after reading this review. N pop girl looks nice with the little pink teddy bear and I liked the sushi, the bowl and the sword with an avocado hanging at the hilt. I think this is special mold design for a sword after the Sting.

May I know what colour did you put under the trans blue plates for the river?
  11. Hi everyone. Today I'm reviewing the London residence and administrative headquarters of the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom as my 8th review. This is the official residence of Queen Elizabeth II and a major London tourist attraction. The Palace was built in 1698 when the Duke of Buckingham demolished the existing property. It was 319 years ago! Lets have a look at the LEGO set. Overview Name: 21029 Buckingham Palace Theme: Architecture Year: 2016 Pieces: 780 Minifigures: 0 Price: £44.99 / $49.99 / 49.99€ The Box The front of the box is the box art at a very glossy black background which looks very cool. Its not very eye catching if you haven't really visited and know the place. Then at the back of the box you can see the real picture of the Palace and the measurements of the model. The side of the box showing the actual size of a 1x3 arch brick. I liked the drafted lines and actual LEGO image mixture there, it feels like you are there when the designer drafted the blueprint of the building. The box opens up like a lunch box after removing the seal. Unlike other LEGO boxes, this architecture box can be reused to repack the set, or its very useful to store your other spare bricks or better still, you can convince your spouse(who usually opposes excessive LEGO purchase) that LEGO has a lot of other functions such as a jewelry box . The inside is black too and the cardboard of the box is quite solid. I stick back both the sealing tape at the side which shows 'Enjoy your building experience.' The content includes this hard binding instruction booklet and a survey form paper. The book is quite thick and the cover looks similar to the box cover. I like the feel of the book but after a few flip of it, the shape starts to curl a little bit. So, download the pdf online might be the solution if you want to keep the book mint. You can click this 21029 Instruction pdf to download the pdf. You get three 8x16 dark gray plates three small packet and two large packets of bricks. In my opinion, try don't mix them all together for you to find the bricks easier when building. But if you have a lot of time to spend, do mix them all. They are not numbered but the parts are quite well distributed. I'll show in the next pictures. First small packet are packed with 1x1 round plates, clips, 1x2 tiles and jumpers and the windowed tan 1x1 bricks. Second small packets you get two pearl gold nanofigures, lots of tiles, roof tiles and bars. Then you get 1x3 plates, yellow 1x1 plate with clip light, thick ring, dark tan and dark gray tiles and some trans clear 1x2 plates. In this large packet you get lots of plates, window pieces, fences and some 1x4 bricks. It comes with smaller packet inside which contains pieces like below. Olive green tiles and a window piece. Very nice colours here especially when they are 1x1 round tiles. Second large packet is with two smaller bags. You get large and long plates, some bricks and an orange brick separator. Look here if you need large pieces. Round gray 1x1 plates with open stud. some telescope, 1x2 tiles and 1x1 tan plates. Last small bag is my favorite. 1x1 trans clear pieces and 1x1 tan round plates and they looked like diamonds scattered in front of you! I wonder if you can propose a marriage with these attached to a ring. Haha. The Build Firstly you get to build a 26x24 base with black borders. Then fill the gaps with black tiles. I really like the exclusively printed tiles with the name of the set which makes the set special, you can't find that tile in any other sets. At the upper portion, you line up the jumpers to get a slightly inward build but not standard one stud gap. Then you get to build the garden with those olive green round plates, its a cure for OCD patients like me. haha.. A closer view to the garden. Bonsai looks like this, right? The use of this dark olive green round tiles on a black perimeter to represent gardens are very brilliant as it looks real rather than cartoon-ish if you put bright green on that part of the set. Then we move on to build the building. These book rack looking walls are representing the floors inside the building but it doesn't really matters as it will be closed by outer walls. I learnt something from this black 1x2 brick. Put these behind arch doors will create a complete black background to make the interior looked wide and vast in perspective rather than leaving it empty which shows the messiness of the inside. I like these microbuilds. The 1x1 round plates are representing floors and 1x4 plates representing pillars and the trans clear 1x1 plates representing windows. These are attached at left and right side of the building. I like the fact that the back of tan 1x1 modified brick with headlight can be used as square windows in micro scale. Then we go on to build the front walls. There are two wings of windows attached to a center black main pillar, then put on the front of the building. Tada.. The 1x1 plates looks so detailed when put together like this. Very amazing job by the designer of this model. The collective visual effect of the whole floors of this building was created using small parts is how LEGO designers roll. Different combination of pieces creates different things. The five arch doors with smaller ones at the center creates perspective in this model which makes it felt more detailed. I liked how the designers put those small thoughts in the model and makes the model looked better collectively. After building the roofs, you get to build these very cute microbuilds! (Antman and micro antman are NOT included in this set, they are for comparison only.) The London Bus is only a sandwich of red and trans clear plates, so amazing what LEGO bricks can bring out! The Victoria Memorial is also very nice and accurately built here. A closer look to The Victoria Memorial in front of the palace. The four white modified with tooth plate were nicely placed as the statues representing courage, constancy, victory, charity, truth and motherhood. On the north side of the monument you'll find the Angel of Justice and on the opposite side, the Angel of Truth. On the western side, looking towards Buckingham Palace, is a statue of Charity. All of that is topped off with a gilded statue of Victory, sitting atop the pinnacle with a seated figure on either side, representing Courage and Constancy. The real Victoria Memorial. *Photo taken from Google. This is the final look of the finished build. It looks very majestic and nice especially if you have been there yourself! The flag always flies above the palace when the Queen is in the residence. Birds eye view of the model. It looks simple but packed with details. It comprises of three parts, the building, the fences and the garden. Front view. You feel like you are a nanofig and you are in the Palace already. Lets hop on the bus for some tour! The designer captured the real bus and scaled it down to 1x3 plate size with a five layered sandwich of red and trans clear plates as windows. It is quite enough this way as adding wheels for the bus will become redundant in this scale of the building. This is the real picture of the Buckingham Palace for comparison. As you can see, the three main compartments of the building was clearly scaled down into micro scale build with the center roof being larger than the right and left counterparts. The amazing part of this is that the designers were using only cheese slopes to perfectly portray the building structure, and the use of the bars as pillars added details into the building. By looking at this picture, I would say that the LEGO set is a quite close representation to the real building in micro scale. *Photo taken from Google. The real London red double decker bus. *Photo taken from google. London Black Taxi with two 1x1 tiles, one trans clear plate and one 1x2 plate. How nice! This is the real London black cab. *Photo taken from google. LEGO is generous enough to give an extra pearl gold nanofig and all these extra parts. Review summary Playability: 5/10 - I can't think of how to play with this. Taking photos? Design / Building Experience: 9/10 - I enjoyed the micro builds and learning on how to build small, appear big. Minifigures: 8/10 - I simply love the two nanofigures, Price / Value for money: 8/10 - I will score this a little higher if I've been to the actual site. Overall: 9/10 - A very nice architecture set with many details. Conclusion This is my second architecture set and I'm simply impressed by the design after I've finished building it. I think this set is a very nice set to have as a remembrance of 'I've been there before!' set. I think the design of this set is iconic enough to be recognized by those who have been there but its an eye opener to those who haven't. For MOCers, this set packs lots of trans clear and tan pieces but the price per piece for this set is quite expensive I would say but you would learn a few techniques of MOCing micro scale buildings. However, I'm not attracted by the box art or the building itself as I never been there before, but it is such a nice building standing and displaying in my working desk now. Thanks for reading!

Wow this is a great build. Is it in Goblin King's cave?

Thanks! Yes you should regret. Those are very nice sets you missed. Thanks my friend. I agreed that the cave troll made up for everything here in the set. Having this set completes my Fellowship collection. So its a gem to me.
