[MOC] McDonnell-Douglas F-4J Phantom II

Recommended Posts

Hi! Today I'd like to show you what I consider my best work up to date and also my first take on a fighter aircraft. I chose F-4 Phantom because of its legendary status and cold war era origins, which is also the theme of most of my other models.

This particular Phantom is in VF-84 'Jolly Rogers' squadron, one of the most famous US Navy units. It's distinguishing feature is the big scull logo on the tail fin. Phantom was one of the biggest and heaviest fighters of its era, especially when compared to 'tiny' MiGs 19 and 21.

It's 1:40 scaled and approx. 48 cm long.

You really nailed the shape of this jet, fantastic work. I especially like the brick built canopy you went with, which I vastly prefer to trying to make Lego windshields work.

Fantastic work on this!  Very well done on achieving the shape of the fighter.  The canopy also really works well made from several pieces - rather than just a few pieces.

So smooth, so pretty. Personally, I prefer with a real canopy, rather than transparent parts, but I understand that compromises must be made to respect the shape. Which is definitely the strong point here.

Very well done and thanks for sharing!

I bet this was quite a difficult build, however you have captured the jet very well indeed. You have some serious MOC building skills!

W O W ! ! *huh*

Unbelievable achievement.  Modern day warplanes are very tricky to get right and this is - no contest - the best looking F-4 out there.  All of the trademark attributes of the Phantom are so well represented.  The large intake ramps, the wing sweep, the rake of the vertical stab, the angled wingtips, the elevator anhedral - it's all there! :moar: I can look at these photos for hours, amazing work!!  Thanks for sharing this!
