I remember the good ol days when waves like this used to get ripped a new one I understand that some of these haven‘t been seen in years, but the playsets are all remakes of sets we’ve seen multiple times before. It’s the third Anakin’s yellow Delta JSF, the fourth Mustafar Duel, the fourth Bespin Duel, the sixth OT/RO Y-Wing, and one of many many Battle of Endor sets. I think the wave of different reactions is also quite interesting! But that’s the beauty of a diverse fanbase. I do see where your opinion is coming from in a lot of ways, but the wave really does have the potential to be something special: - Anakin’s Delta-7b: A new Delta-7 variant doesn’t sound exciting I agree, but the prospect of finally getting a definitive General Skywalker minifigure on the same quality as last year’s General Kenobi is definitely tantalising. If they’ve gone back to the drawing board to make these ships smaller and sleeker, that’s a huge win too. - Duel on Mustafar: Agree this doesn’t feel overwhelmingly new, but the 2020 set was too small and basic IMO. Getting a substantial build of this scene is a great prospect (something we haven’t ever received really, all the Mustafar-related stuff we’ve had have either been very small and disparate, or hobbled in favour of play functions). - Duel on Bespin: We haven’t had a true playscale Cloud City playset since 2003 which IMO is criminal given how much the verticality of it as a location would be perfect as a toy. I wouldn’t class this a remake at all. - OT Y-Wing: Agree this is boring personally, but something that’s been missing from shelves for a very long time. I’m sure they’ll find a way to include some interesting characters. - Endor Battle Pack: Again something we haven’t had in ages. I agree much of this isn’t ’new-new’, but it’s certainly more refreshing than most of Lego Star Wars’ output this year. To each their own though, and I’m sure there’ll be some even cooler stuff in the summer. Really excited to see the Starfighter and Ahsoka S2 sets too. I really hope they don’t just ignore the latter. You can criticise the greyness of the Mando sets, but Cobb Vanth’s speeder, the prototype AT-AT, Offworld Sandcrawler, and Imperial Shuttle are all wayyyyy more interesting than any of these January sets, even if you don’t care all that much about the Mandoverse 47 minutes ago, Kaijumeister said: I’m sure they’ll find a way to include some interesting characters. You’re way more optimistic than me After Nien Nunb and the Death Star exclusives like Tagge, there are pretty much no interesting OT characters left. The positive response to the Marvel January wave makes perfect sense with its many fresh, unique set ideas, long-requested minifigs, and bonkers concepts. This wave simply has none of that, and yet has had a similarly positive response, which I just find strange Quote
RyansRebuid Posted June 16 Posted June 16 (edited) I think for somebody like me who doesn't have all these scenes the wave sounds appealing. Sure, they've done a bunch of this before, but these are good scenes/ships and I don't have a complete collection. Something like a nice play-scale Y-Wing sounds great to me. The AT-AT and Imperial Shuttle from this year are pretty similar riffs on existing good sets. (And with apologies to Cobb Vance I don't like his speeder nor do I care about the blue guy.) RebelFriendRyan Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I’ve been lurking for over a year at this point and today is the day that I’ve got something interesting enough to say that I’ve actually made an account. In regard to the idea of Episodes 1-6 each getting a set with a McQuarrie anniversary figure, I know there’s been discussion of what the Episode I set might be. I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention the recent news that a speed champions set is getting chrome silver wheels soon, the first chrome silver part since 2013 I believe. Combining that with the fact that we haven’t had a Naboo Starfighter playset since 2015, it might be a pipe dream, but I really think there’s a chance that we’re getting a Naboo Starfighter playset with Chrome Silver. This gives them an excuse to put Episode I Anakin in a set to have that unifying theme, and *fingers crossed* we could get a battle of Theed Padme finally. If I were Lego, I’d probably include the McQuarrie C-3PO in this set, with the loose connection of young Anakin having built him. I think people would pay $100 for a chrome silver N-1 with Theed Padme, it’d be a slam dunk. There was recently an image of some drum lacquered gold legs which could either be a test part or could be a prototype for a McQuarrie C-3PO. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 (edited) Welcome to Eurobricks @RebelFriendRyan! I think if we ever get a chromed N-1, a Naboo royal starship would surely be right behind it? ... at least, I hope it would be, as it's LONG overdue! Edited June 16 by Murdoch17 Quote

No way. Even if they bring chrome back in a bigger capacity, you’d need A LOT of different recoloured pieces, and they’d have to design it in a way that only the outmost layer actually uses these pieces. Any contact between pieces, and you’ll immediately have scratched and damaged parts. For this reason, I’m sceptical about the allegedly leaked metall gold leg piece, despite having seen the picture. Changing the torso would quickly damage the part, no? Quote

What it comes down to is that the wave is only uninteresting if you've managed to buy almost every star wars set for decades of time. 99% of us obviously haven't. So for that 99%, new versions of some of the most iconic scenes and vehicles in the saga that haven't been done in the better part of (or more than) a decade are the stuff that makes a wave amazing. 7 hours ago, RebelFriendRyan said: I’ve been lurking for over a year at this point and today is the day that I’ve got something interesting enough to say that I’ve actually made an account. it might be a pipe dream, but I really think there’s a chance that we’re getting a Naboo Starfighter playset with Chrome Silver. If they really wanted to do one it would be LBG, or if they planned it out right they could do the crest, Mando's N-1, and the starship in the same year or so all in pearl silver and spread the budget between all three. Just tell a original story that feels like Star Wars, yet has barely anything to do with the Skywalker Saga All the shows and spin-offs so far are still tied to the core saga in some capacity, even The Acolyte with Plagueis, Yoda, and Ki-Adi Mundi showing up. It gets harder and harder for new fans to latch onto SW with the deluge of movies and shows we have now! Quote
RyansRebuid Posted June 17 Posted June 17 I agree that it would be great to sever the ties from the current Star Wars saga/continuity. I'd be okay if the movies for Star Wars went away. But I'd worry a little bit that that would mean less Star Wars other stuff that I like, like games, books, and ofc Legos. Obviously, since the 90s we've basically constantly gotten that extra stuff whether or not there were movies coming out. But if Star Wars really is weaker than ever, or maybe weakest since like 1989, then I worry about the smaller media material getting cut down to size Quote

We are a very very small minority here, and even if lego was scouring social media for ideas, newer-style social media with a like feature would be a lot more helpful to them since they can see how popular ideas are with thousands of likes rather than a few people quoting it. I think that's about right, though unlike the other two Zam is a bounty hunter who plays an action role in the movie. That said, I don't think it was much more likely for us to be getting Zam than it is for us to get a Queen Amidala or Boss Nass eventually- I just think they'd be in another set. If anything I think Zam helped Bounty Hunter pursuit's odds, as it's literally the only set that could include her. I don't know. Off the top of my head the N-1, MTT, AAT, etc are all more likely options to include either of those characters- I could also see a small location set for the queen's rescue. Podracer and Sith Infiltrator too of course (especially the infiltrator because it's a Maul set)- but those of course wouldn't include the specific figs we're talking about. I don't know, man... (That said, it's also in the strongest remaining position, since there is at least a fair amount of content on the horizon that's not considered DOA.) It needed a clone wars, and the lack of one was a major issue. That show pulled off miracles for anakin (to the extent it's almost difficult to believe the Anakin in AOTC canonically becomes early season Anakin in just a few months), it could easily have fixed any issues with Rey. All Finn and Poe really needed were their own arcs, most criticism of those characters is Finn being relegated to screaming "Rey!" and Poe- the guy that they actually gave TCW-style content to and gained fans from- sort of getting shunted to the side and put down. If anything I think the biggest difficulty a potential AAT set would have in including Nass is that at the moment they'd never make a TPM one when they could make a TCW one to use as a clone battle pack. Anyways It felt like Star Wars was hugely popular the whole period from the first TFA trailer to TLJ. You had Star Wars Battlefront come out in 2015 which is still the best selling Star Wars game and TFA which is the highest grossing Star Wars movie. Then you had R1 which is still viewed as the best Disney SW movie, Rebels was also airing during this period. The first canon books and comics were pretty well liked too. I'd argue it was one of Star Wars most popular/mainstream eras. It's crazy how TLJ came out and 6 months later no one cared about Star Wars anymore lol. Quote

The only problem would be figuring out an actual plot which doesn’t fall into M&G’s problem of moving locations just to do another CGI fight. If Filoni’s HttE movie goes ahead it has to include the OT. The guy from Solo and Carrie Fisher’s daughter are already in the Lucasfilm contact pool. They just need to get Sebastian Stan for Luke and they might have a winner on their hands. (I could see Mando getting shoehorned in to accompany Lando and Han on the Lady Luck or the Karrde plot line, Carson Teva just being added to part of Wedge’s plot line (or maybe replacing him but hopefully not) and then Ezra doing the intelligence gathering Luke was doing at the start of Last Command and helping in the C’Baoth boss fight. Generation Tech made a good point a couple of weeks ago that Luke needs to come back so the franchise has a paragon of pure light-side. Star Wars is ultimately the story of Good vs Evil and we’ve not really had anyone purely good as a protagonist for a while. While the villains are always pure evil. 11 hours ago, Mandalorianknight said: I think there's a nonzero chance this was going to be the Benoiff and Weiss trilogy, and lucasfilm just scrapped the whole thing when they axed those two. Even TLJ was a fun for me in the Cinema first time, apart from getting a bit upset about Luke’s characterisation. But upon rewatch I noticed the numerous damning flaws. I do at least respect Rian Johnson for daring to try and do something different, but I think he should just stick to making his excellent Knives Out films. (Or a SW murder mystery could be cool as a D+ Special) Maybe Anakin’s Starfighter will include R3-S6? Quote
RyansRebuid Posted June 18 Posted June 18 (edited) I think the feeling around TFA is more sour now because it commits the huge canon sin of blowing up like 5 planets. And now that it's not the new! Star! Wars! movie anymore its almost exact match to A New Hope is more obvious. The Last Jedi is the best of the three, but got trapped in the culture war, which I don't think was ever a big issue for Star Wars before that. A bummer. It's got a lot of flaws but it also has, like, any original ideas at all, which is unique among the Disney movies. (Rogue One is in second there, but I just rewatched it and honestly I think Andor has made it overrated.) 1 hour ago, CloneCommando99 said: Generation Tech made a good point a couple of weeks ago that Luke needs to come back so the franchise has a paragon of pure light-side. Star Wars is ultimately the story of Good vs Evil and we’ve not really had anyone purely good as a protagonist for a while. While the villains are always pure evil. I think I'd strongly disagree with this idea. Luke doesn't lean into it as hard as Rey or ofc Anakin, but there's dark-side dalliances in both Episodes 5 and 6. The most recent set of villains Kylo Ren and (IM THE SPY ) General Hux both make morally complex actions. (Edit: Maybe you were talking TV canon, but this is w/r/t movies. I haven't followed the modern TV canon closely. And honestly I think someday the shoe will drop and all the bad TV will be excised from the canon just like the original EU.) Speaking of the guy, Luke's X-Wing is getting swapped out at work today with the Sith Infiltrator. Time to go home and hang out with Dodonna, Luke. My office energy is now sinister. This is why TLJ was so disappointing, for most of the movie Luke was a whiny loser. We were robbed of the real Luke. Quote

If anything I think the biggest difficulty a potential AAT set would have in including Nass is that at the moment they'd never make a TPM one when they could make a TCW one to use as a clone battle pack. The MTT I think is his best chance, but of course we just had one that was inexplicably used as a vehicle to provide a Commander Bly minifigure rather than the vastly more iconic version. You see, in a less obvious and weird way, we seem to see where we're coming from with our respective standpoints. You think we won't see a new Gungun Sub at all, but can admit a Boss Nass minifigure would be a sensible inclusion. While I think he would be less likely included in an AAT, but the set itself is more likely to show up again. If everything goes to plan, I will have the MTT in person next month. It's not for me, but I look forward to build it and toy around with the deployment play feature. 7 hours ago, Darth_Bane13 said: This is why TLJ was so disappointing, for most of the movie Luke was a whiny loser. They were little more than Hollywood-approved marketing tools in order to make Star Wars fans lose their minds over two seconds representation in a trailer. Something part of the fanbase is very susceptible to fall for. Edited June 18 by BrickPrick Quote

Obviously this back-and-forth has gone on for ages, so I doubt I'm adding anything you haven't heard, but I'll just present the opposition case. Which is that Luke is whiny in much of Episodes 4 and 5, and has mostly overcome this in Episode 6, but people aren't stagnant. Bad changes in people's lives can undo or challenge "character development." I think "whiny" Luke was so much more of an interesting choice than some generic Wizened Sage character. The Luke/Rey stuff is the strongest material in that movie, and is in so many ways reminiscent of Yoda/Luke. 10 minutes ago, BrickPrick said: They just straight up ruined the original cast of characters. I don't think all the choices were right, but the characters have all grown (or changed) in interesting and challenging ways. Edited June 18 by RyansRebuid Quote
Kaijumeister Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Luke will always be one of my favourite characters in fiction, but it pains me how much his character direction in the modern canon has been to try and emulate the PT-era Jedi in terms of stoicism and detachment rather than being the ‘first of the new’ Jedi; taking what worked before and building on what didn’t. I suppose Rey will fill that role in the upcoming films, but I will always see it as Lucasfilm’s greatest failure as storytellers not to capitalise on decades of anticipation of a resurgent Jedi Order and New Republic. Back on topic, Solid Brix’s review of the Imperial Shuttle has sold me on the set, but the minifigure selection really is quite boring IMO. Getting Pershing, an updated Gideon, and the Shuttle Pilot is cool and all, but they’re kind of bland too. With the Mando-focus this year, I would liked to have finally seen a TIE Outlander. Toys Can’t wait for reviews of the Sandcrawler and Remnant AT-AT. Quote

That, the armoured marauder parts I’m PABing and the Endor BP (if it has 4 imps) are going to do wonders at bolstering my remnant/ garrison. Quote
