I'd say the problem is that there just aren't that many of them that are into Star Wars at all, not to mention they're a smaller generation. I can't say the box office performance is surprising considering the general sentiment is "this could've been an email". Yeah, it may be their most watched but it clearly isn't translating to wanting to watch more outings of the characters. I know Gen Z (or at least teenagers, maybe that's early gen alpha at this point)'s most watched show was TCW, I remember reading an article recently where one interviewed kid had the brutal quote of "anything that came out after I was born isn't that good") It annoys me to no end how little impact TMAG has on anything or why they made it a theatrical movie- they won't let Din or Grogu change in any way. AT THE VERY LEAST, let Din Spoiler Paint his armor, it's long overdue and from a cynical perspective could actually help merch sales. There have been so many action figures and lego minifigures and funkos and everything of Din in his near-identical-since-1x3 armor, any child older than 7 who likes Mando probably already has one. 12 hours ago, CloneCommando99 said: Bbbbbut I thought OT got all the love? Nononono, you see, the OT DOES get all the love. Lego doesn't make normal playsets for it, because they love the OT and want to keep it to themselves. They don't dislike the prequels in general, but they hate the clones, hence why they make so many clone trooper sets- they want to get rid of all the clone minifigures spontaneously generating in the lego factory. One shudders to imagine how much they must love the sequels. (On a realistic level I think this came from the fact that during the release of the first batch of disney films, the clones did fall by the wayside moreso than the OT, and while that immediately got rectified in the modern era, people were just slow to let it sink in. The OT also tends to get the first batch of any new gimmick or subline before it expands to the prequels, but I think even that's dead now as far as 18+ stuff goes- the first round of SW busts included an offering for each trilogy.) 12 hours ago, TeddytheSpoon said: I'm not sure Lucasfilm are telling toy companies what to produce, more that they hand out the pre-production material and the companies go 'well, let's see what we can do'. Of course they can be selective with what they show, so the result can be the same, but I doubt they're going to every individual toy company and telling them what to make. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a veto, though. As many like to point out, TLG has always seemed to have more confidence in movie releases. What will be interesting to see is how many sets Starfighter gets, assuming it does indeed release next year. If TMaG's lukewarm reception translates to poor set sales, will TLG just give us more 18+ sets instead of Starfighter playsets? We know about one instance a decade ago where lucasfilm requested Lego make a specific ship (IIRC Krennic's shuttle instead of the Zeta), but if anything I think that shows that it generally works how you say- they hand over concept art, lego decides what to make, and Lucasfilm might workshop it a bit or ask for other stuff. And with sets not based on new content, I'd imagine it pretty much comes down to some suit absentmindedly signing off whatever crosses his desk. Though this is one situation where I think Lucasfilm does have some control and will help out. I do believe that when it comes to the movies Lucasfilm wants to see tie-ins, and that they'll ask Lego to make some Starfighter sets. Edit: The Pokemon "Smart" sets have been revealed, and while they're certainly... interesting... they do illustrate something extremely strange. To put a Smart Brick in most of the pokemon, you have to take a panel off to place the smart brick inside. I feel like JK Simmons in that scene from whiplash- "So you DO know the difference!". Lego DOES know how to hide smart bricks! When it comes to Pokemon, lego seems to understand kids are smart enough to figure out how to hinge or even remove bricks to put smart bricks inside, but all the star wars vehicles need gaping holes in the builds? Yeah I haven't heard people complain about lack of clone wars sets in years, that's a very 2019 complaint. There was definitely a huge drop in Clone Wars sets from 2015-2019 compared to what we got in 2008-2014, understandably. Quote

I actually forgot about that but yes, it supports the idea that LFL have a veto rather than actively dictating the exact things TLG make. And even then I assume LEGO would've had some sketches and concepts for the Zeta kicking around. FWIW, while a Zeta would've been nice I don't think what we got was a bad option. I think that Krennic's shuttle set is awesome. Is it not that there's a portion of bricks that can be removed to be replaced with the Smart Brick? That's the impression I got. (I have Many Thoughts on these, but without derailing the topic, I'll just say the rounded-cube design of the Pokémon sets is very off-putting to me. So even though it's not directly the SB's fault here, TLG are still 0 for 2 on Smart set line-ups that look good.) Quote

Kaijumeister Posted June 2 Posted June 2 (edited) Has Eurobricks been acting up quite a bit lately for anyone over the past few days? On-topic, I am absolutely loving the Remnant AT-AT and Sandcrawler. This is a true return to form for 'flagship' playscale sets and the introduction of the 14+ price-point is something I am incredibly excited about. I'm glad that the LSW Team are finally realising that 'older' demographics will be drawn to more than just buildable figures. Some highlights from these two reveals: Both sets offer a comprehensive play / display experience, and that helps flesh out the world and context around the core subject matter of the set itself. Star Wars sets as of late have aimed for being as lean as possible in terms of 'stuff'; typically a single vehicle and maybe a small side-build if we're lucky. But both the AT-AT and Sandcrawler with their assortment of side-builds, vehicle builds, minifigure selections etc. offer fantastic play value and that's something I would love to see more of. Fantastic minifigures all-round, with Mudolorian and the Remnant Snowtroopers being a standout. I appreciate the attention to detail in the moulding and precision of the Remnant Snowtrooper helmet, on the Lego Shop website the official images of the Remnant AT-AT very intentionally place the image of both Snowtroopers next to one-another. They look close enough to having an identical form factor with the exception of the face covering. The builds themselves are just really good! They look substantial and the inclusion of full interiors is really appreciated. The Mudhorn looks excellent too; I understand and sympathise with the sentiment that moulded creatures in Star Wars are few and far between these days but I'll always get a kick out of clever building techniques to make a cool creature rather than relying on than a big blob of plastic any day of the week (this is probably why I just can't get into the Jurassic Park / World lineup despite trying to). Just my personal preference. These two sets along with the Imperial Shuttle and Cobb's Speeder are the highlights of 2026 for me. With all that said, I still think that there is something that feels really off this year and it 100% is the complete lack of diversity in playscale this year with the exception of the Siege of Mandalore Battle Pack and Shock Trooper Mech (and really, it's not like more than 20 people worldwide are enthusiastic about those sets anyway). Discounting the eight Smart Play sets, we have had 12 playscale sets this year, of which 10 are either based on the Mandalorian show or TMaG. That is overkill and I maintain that stance even though this is a movie year. Again during the height of the ST and spinoff film era, Lego still didn't go all in on a new movie the way they're doing now. (Although ironically, with Smart Play we've had a total of 20 playscale sets this year. Which actually sounds awesome on paper.) Honestly, now that we've seen pretty much all the playscale stuff this year with the exception of the Christmas Bespin Duel set, a single Maul: Shadow Lord set really would have made this year for me. I like Mando, but it seems like a massive missed opportunity from both a build and minifigure standpoint not to have received a set with characters like Devon Izara, both Inquisitors (the Crow especially would have made for a cool fig), Maul in a cool hood and cloak, etc. Most of the Mando-related mini figures are fairly bland-looking and a Shadow Lord set would have injected some much needed colour into this year's lineup. Plus, this is very much Lego's call to make rather than Lucasfilm's (although the latter would obviously need to sign off on Lego's decisions). If you look at lines from other brands like Micro Galaxy Squadron, the Vintage Collection, Black Series, Actionverse, Pop! Vinyls, Hot Toys, Blokees, etc., none have gone all in with Mando the way Lego have. I understand Smart Play gobbled up set slots but all the same, you can't convince me that we really needed 10 sets dedicated to the Mandalorian. This isn't 2020-21. That aside, the AT-AT and Sandcrawler are some of the best Lego sets of the year for me and I tip my hat to the designers for making such incredible sets. Can't wait to buy both of them. brimbolet Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Really like the AT AT prototype, though it’ll need some upgrading especially at the head. The sticker looks ugly, should’ve been either a print or a brick built solution. But ultimately this is a much better set than the Lambda shuttle. Better designed (+ 1,5) figures and a substantial build for the same price. In Europe Galactic Marines will be in the Lego magazine soon. Quote
Nobricksleft Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Sooga! The Sandcrawler is just amazing. Revisiting an early Mando episode with a well designed smartless playset is the second highlight of this year for me. The AT-AT scenes were my least favorite so the set doesn't really appeal to me, bar the INT-4 and the remnant snowtrooper. I'll probably bricklink both. Looking at the sales on Amazon the SB sets are failing hard. Perfect tieming to release a fan favorite set that avenges this disaster. Quote
brimbolet Posted June 2 Posted June 2 (edited) Wow, Star Wars smart play sets look now even worse after the Pokemon reveal... just like unfinished test products. Hopefully Lego learned a lesson and the next wave will have the smart brick fully incorporated into the builds. And of course the Pokemon add-on sets are much cheaper now. There‘s a unique circumstance here, namely that M&G is the first spin-off movie based on a show. The number of M&G sets is what you‘d expect from a new movie, but never before did we have a show that offered material for additional tie-in sets like this A bit overkill, yes, but this won‘t happen again anyway. Pretty much finished deconstructing all the Legos from my parents' place. Now there's a lot of digging around for stray pieces to do, as well as some "stretch goal" sets that are small, mostly minifigure-based, and have been broken up for more than a decade. I believe I had 7204: Jedi Defense II and 7201: Final Duel II. (Yes, in both cases only half the "scene.") I don't think I have the figures any more, but it might be fun see if I still have the, uh, doors. Quote
Llewop Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Think 2026 has been fairly decent. While it has been full on Mando. I’ve been thinking of it like this it’s been 6 years since season 1 came out. In that time we’ve had remakes and rereleases of other stuff from a similar time period. Season 1 barely got any sets so the Sandcrawler, the speeder is something new for old and new fans to buy. Season 2 got a bit more coverage but the shuttle is welcome and continues Lego and SW tradition of reusing vehicles from others films/shows. Then all the stuff from the film well of course they are going to milk content from something that is popular and the film is doing well, I’ve seen people on different forums/social media etc asking is it worth watching the Mandolorian after seeing the film. Which shouts to me that SW in the cinema is always going to make money. For those who don’t like year it’s not so much get on with it but it’s more that’s what SW theme is these days, last year it’s too much CW stuff, too many buildables not enough OT blah blah blah and now this year it’s too much Mando not enough Clones or not enough Prequels. SW is massive these days like if you view or split it up in to eras (PT, OT, ST, CW, Mando) there are like 5/6 subthemes which we are all fans of some and not all and want sets from one and not the other and it’s the same for like thousands of SW afols we all want different stuff and unless Lego sold 100-200 sets a year there is no way every fan would get satisfied, Lego is a business CW sells which is why they’ve been so focused on it, M&G is the first SW film in years and is the most popular SW thing on Disney so again Lego will focus on that, 18+ stuff unfortunately is popular so Lego focuses on that. OT sells which is why they’ve launched their crappy smart stuff with it as they know if it flops OT fans will still probably buy it. my only real criticism of this year is how expensive the normal sets are. The shuttle, razor crest, Sandcrawler and the AT-AT all costing over £120 is mad. That’s even forgetting the supposedly “cheaper” AT-RT set which should be sold at 50% of what it’s sold as. Even the Mando speeder should have been a poly bag. On a side note are we expecting any more reveals for August or are we done now (except for UCS October) and just waiting to start to hear what is coming and when 2027 Quote

My generation has grown up and realized they liked their toys as kids, and now all sorts of used Pokemon cards, Gamecube games, and Legos etc have shot up in value. And since we now have money despite our perpetual adolescence, there's room for Nintendo and Lego to sell us super-premium stuff and they don't have to worry about selling huge volume of cheaper stuff. Frankly it feels like the whole consumer economy (at least in America) is now about selling fewer things that are more expensive. Quote

(Also that the only two non-Mando playsets this year WERE Clones. Even in the Year of Mando we still had to have clone sets.) There's no way EVERY fan would get satisfied, but are we really going to pretend that having some variety is something lego can't do? Go back literally two years and we had a year including the best clone battle pack, a new ISD, some Mando sets, $13 Rex, a prequel set that didn't involve Jango's blood, boarding the tantive IV, even sets for new shows. Even from a financial perspective it doesn't make much sense- Why would you want to create a year where there's nothing for X% of your fans, and the Y% who actually do like the subtheme now have a bunch of competing sets. Not everyone has @BrickBob Studpants's collection capacity- most of us are only buying a few of the SW selection every year. Broadening the scope so there's some offerings from different parts of the franchise ensures a wider net and that you won't oversaturate to the level of self-competing. 3 hours ago, BrickBob Studpants said: We‘re still missing the buildable Boba!
