Bricklink making mistakes as well does not change the fact that neither item is a true minifigure.
-
A bit of a stretch to put brick built characters under the category "minifigures", isn't it? Seems a bit misleading to me. Some interesting colours in this set, but... that's about it for me. Too much going on in this set and the overall impression doesn't seem all that coheric to me. I guess I'm just one of those "boring and nostalgic" people who prefer stuff like Benny's Spaceship.

REVIEW: 71024 LEGO Minifigures - The LEGO Disney Series 2
Hive replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Licensed
Excellent review, as always. The two Frozen characters has some good pieces for a medieval setup - but other than those, there's not really anything of interest to me. I hope we'll see a proper series 19 next. -
Excellent review! Keep them coming. I too will agree that it lands around 7 overall - but amusingly, our likes and dislikes are reveresed. What I like about the building is the upper floors; the vet (and, especially, the Indiana Jones window and paw door knobs), the colour schemes, the facade. What I'm not so hot for is the entire ground floor with the garage, which does next to nothing for me. I'll happily admit that the mechanisms are impressive, but I don't care for a garage (or the truck) and the lack of tiling doesn't help. The minifigs are overall quite good though.

Mine arrived today. Once again thanks to CopMike and everyone else involved with this fun contest. :)

[MOC] Sulphur-crested cockatoo

Absolutely fantastic! -
Thanks for the nice words. :) I'll admit that the colour palette has had (and still has) me worried, with dark red, reddish brown and dark orange all in the mix... I've been considering replacing the dark red brick bricks with the original Detective's Office colour.

This looks fantastic. It's something like this I'd like to do with our winter sets some fine day. The big tree is a particular delight.

Thank you. The three is actually "stolen" from one of the fairground sets (forgot the name). Really liked the design and wanted to include it in a build. The "burger" (which is a sandwhich! ) is actually the exact same size as in the original Corner Deli build. It was important to me that there would be something in this that was 100 % as in the original set. While not visible in the pictures, the original stove from the set is included below the stairs.

After getting 31050 Corner Deli (and loving it!) a while back, I immediately fell in love with the colour scheme and wanted to turn the building into a full-fledged modular (I later found out through a google search that I was far from the first person to get that idea, but oh well). A couple of months ago, I finally started the build; I decided that the sandwhich shop would be ill-fitted for a full modular, and that it should share the space with something else. After some thinking, I got the idea to merge it with one of the modulars I don't actually own - with my first choice being 10185 Green Grocer. I did start on that, but didn't really like how the merge looked... so I instead chose 10246 Detective's Office (a building I originally decided wasn't for me). In the beginning, I worked from the *.pdf instructions with the bricks I already had - but before long, I had bought the instructions and many of the bricks for it from Bricklink (and in hindsight, I should just have bought the entire set before it retired)... and today, I finally finished it. I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures, photography is not my strongest suit: As you can see, I didn't copy the DO 100 % - but took some liberties with design and, especially, colouring. You may notice a little easter egg from 10260 Downtown Diner as well.

[PRESS RELEASE] 70840 - Welcome to Apocalypseburg!

While not for me, I do think it's an impressive and creative set. -
I'm not really into mechs in LEGO form, but damn... those are really, really impressive.

I agree. If it's anything like the last Castle line (from 2013 I believe), they won't have to bother as far as I'm concerned. Every single set (apart from the pretty good Dragon Mountain) were rehashes - and poor attempts at a such. And the figures and heraldy... man, don't get me started there... A CMF line or some battle backs would be fun, but I'd still love a new Castle theme that would run for 2-3 years - if done properly. Something in the vein of Kingdoms.
-
I agree, that is the one LEGO Movie 2 set I am really looking forward to. I really like the roof bricks in that colour. I'm also considering the Friends set below, mainly due to the windows and the newish arch/rail thingies above the doors and windows in that nice, blue colour. And nougat bricks are always a delight.

I echo the "LEGO is meant to be played with" sentiment by others in the thread. To each his own, of course - but I personally think it would be a shame *not* to enjoy the sets in their full, designated glory. I too have plenty of old sets still MISB on my shelves, purely due to not having had time to build them yet. But they will all be opened. Some day.

There's some decent stuff for the first half of the year, but nothing really spectacular for me. Which has been the case for several years now. I won't be fully happy until Castle and/or Pirates finally return, but I don't particularly see the first half of 2019 as being any worse than recent years. The modular garage is better than the modular last yeaer (controversial viewpoint, I know) and there are sets from both the LEGO Movie and Friends lineups that I can use for other stuff. I'd expect some Creator 3-in-1 buildings for the summer wave as well, those have been the highlights for me in recent years.

Now that some days has past, I've reflected some more on this new modular. The Downtown Diner is an impressive build as a stand-alone, but to me doesn't fit in well with the older modulars. The style was simply too different. With Corner Garage, I feel like LEGO attempts to bridge the two styles and combine them in one model. And the result doesn't really work for me. I love dark orange and think the top floors are pretty nice looking, with some nice colours and details. And the Indiana Jones vet is possibly my favorite printed part in any modular so far. But the garage part... not so much. I'm not into garages and I don't think this particular garage is all that it could be; but it's the combination of the two that hurts the overall impression the most, for me. While garages in residentual areas, with appartments on top, is actually fairly common where I come from, having an actual gas station there is not. I know this is LEGO and that we shouldn't obsess too much about realism, and I usually don't. But this detail is too far fetched, even for me. I maintain that I will still get it eventually (in a sale), but I'll be modding out the garage for sure.

Fun competition, thanks to those involved with it. I'm excited to see what I won.

I don't really like the garage part, but the rest is great. I love dark orange, I love the vet idea (and the cheeky Indiana Jones reference), the figures look great and the animals likewise (though I would have liked a fresh colour for the parrot). I, for one, am pleased that they seem to have ditched the old-school plain smiley faces in favor of the more modern detailed type faces. Saves me the trouble of replacing them. The price bump, though... not so cool, LEGO. I'll get this, but will wait for a sale.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Hive replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Dude, calm down. If that is really the case, you can't really be reading a lot... I agree with this. The Town Hall is #1 on the list of missed modulars I wish I had. And I'd personally much rather have a police station, in the style posted above, than a garage. -

A bloody garage?? Really? And I thought the diner was bad... Oh well, one can always hope that they'll at least re-release one of the older modulars as well next year. -
The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Hive replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'll be getting Emmet's Dream House, as I'm always interested in good parts packs for houses, but will pass on the rest. Nice gesture to give Classic Space fans a minifig pack btw, thumbs up for that. -
Sure, if being able to make a submission for LEGO Ideas matters more than getting the best artistic rendition, I get it.

Bricky_Brick has some impressive modular builds for sure. I wish he'd do some in regular bricks though, as computer renditions just never really "does it" for me.
