English warship "Revenge" from 1577 in minifigscale 1:50
tedbeard replied to maydayartist's topic in Pirate MOCs
What more can I say but that I agree with all the compliments above. This is a fantastic MOC and something I am looking forward to examining in more detail. -
There are some LUGs that are primarily internet-based and only get together (if at all) at conventions or large displays. To find out more I suggest you have a gander at the BrickWiki list of LUGs. Mostly it depends what you are trying to accomplish with your group. Fellowship and fun are more likely if you can sit down with a fellow AFOL and actually talk face to face and show each other things you have built or are working on. Drafts, dirty brickster gift exchanges, silly challenges like build-in-a-bag all require people to actually meet up.

I saw this mentioned in another thread and was interested in your road/sidewalk construction. Do you have any detail shots of how you integrated your Fire Brigade into the system? I cannot tell if you modified the set somehow after construction or built it on a whole new foundation.

It scared me!

And apparently Jamie is coming to BrickCon for the reveal. Not sure if that means it is something he worked on but here's hoping.

Not just BrickCon. I believe there is an event in Australia AND Europe next weekend as well. Three events on the same weekend on three continents. I have to think something fun will be unveiled.

VHT Vinyl Dye to Re-color LEGO
tedbeard replied to Henchmen4Hire's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I appreciate the info. I bought a spray can from the US a couple of years ago (could not find it here in my part of Canada) and have been afraid to try it out. Probably expired now but at least I know more of what to expect. -
The dimensions are 28 bricks high by 33 studs long. Why would you need to convert? ;) But seriously, if you really need to know why not simply put together 28 bricks and measure the height the take those bricks and lay them down in a line and measure the length. Who needs fancy math? BTW 32 studs is 10 inches. I know because LEGO train tables are multiples of 30 inches which fits three 32x32 baseplates or two 48x48s.

Very nice review. Great shots of details and love the "suggestions" you made along the way for improvements which I will probably do as well now that you have convinced me to get one.

Very nice but I am finding the red very distracting. Perhaps dark red might have worked better?- 33 replies

This. Although I somehow mange to drink my beer before it gets too warm. Not sure if that helps or hinders my creative process.

Wow, that is an interesting view of the world. "Used" can mean anything from "handled once to sort from box" to "my dog chewed, swallowed and defecated the piece in question". Surely there should be a difference between the two?

Welcome neighbour! Well, sort of neighbour (I am in Victoria BC). Maybe I'll see you @ BrickCon in October?

LBR & S@H Product Discount Restriction (NORTH AMERICA ONLY)
tedbeard replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Huh!?!!? There is so much that being in a LUG can provide and occasional discounts at the LEGO stores was never about LUGs themselves nor would I have even assumed that was part of the deal. I think you will find that a good LUG is a place to hang, chat, trade, admire, share and draft. -
Hit the nail on the head there. If there were sets with integrated road plates then they might actually create a market for road plate packs. My kids love just building roads and playing with cars and trucks joining the plates together temporarily and reconfiguring them over and over. And not to hijack the thread but why do the road plates have to be so darned expensive? Is there something about the forming process? Packaging is minimal and they pack pretty tightly for shipping.
-
Not likely. They seldom, at least in the last decade, have included any sort of road plates in sets that are primarily just a vehicle. The current dark grey with white lines road plates introduced c.2005 have never been included with any set being sold only as accessory packs.

Maybe Pinkman will come in the follow-up set: The RV. ;) I know I'd buy that set in a heartbeat. -
Pretty sure these are not "Victorian Era" but rather trains running in the State of Victoria, Australia. They are very nice however. Really love the dark red guard's van.

Saying Hi from Seattle (Federal Way)

See you at BrickCon! I will be coming down your way from Victoria, BC again this year. -
Are you a member of a LUG? Yes. Are you actively participating in your LUG? Yes, I have been an officer, event organizer, and volunteer and regularly contribute to club displays and events. Would you consider supporting more actively the online AFOL community (e.g. Eurobricks) as moderator, regulator (indexing, ...), making set reviews, etc. I already support the online community as a Trustee on BrickWiki which takes most of my available "support" time.

Agree all around. Very nice but the oddly perfect telegraph poles stood out to me as odd as well.
