  1. I agree, especially in the hull parts discussion. I see no reason to try and re-invent the wheel. New printing, new colours but new large molds? No. Yes. If there are not two ships (medium to large) the line would be a total failure. If we want them to actually produce the sub-theme kids must be given two ships so that they can fight sea battles. I think this is a key question. Creating a company fort to surpass the classics would be greatly enhanced by the use of a raised baseplate. The suggestion already made in the set suggestion thread to use this: as the base for a classic star fort is brilliant and would make this sub-theme much more attractive to both kids and adults.
  2. I don't understand why they cannot simply be the Company Guards? As for distinguishing them, I suggest we use green as the coat colour and avoid the whole red/blue argument altogether.
  3. ^^ I think you forgot this:
  4. Welcome to EB from the Left Coast where Victoria Day was sunny and warm. ;)
  5. Hey, welcome to EB fellow Cascadian! Maybe I will see you @ BrickCon in Seattle in October?
  6. This is fantastic! The detail and action are wonderful. My favorite has to be the "under construction" MOC. It is so wonderfully detailed including the rubble-fill for the walls. Very nice work.
  7. Wow, just wow.
  8. I would have voted for the West Brick Trading Company but the bizarre implementation turned me off. 1. It has no pirates. "Smugglers" are not pirates. 2. "Haven Guard"? What sort of silly name is that. If they are the City guard they could be called "Brickhaven Guard" or something but it sounds like a religious cult the way it is presented. 3. What is the point of the third "faction" anyway? Why not simply have the company have it's own guards/troops like the historical companies had? All the suggestions (yes mine included) had a some variant of company vs pirates and yet the result above is something that is company vs not-pirates + a third faction. Response to above points by Mister Phes in the Questions & Answers thread.
  9. Yeah, no. Why you should stop using your phone in the bathroom
  10. Wow, we already got them here in Victoria! That is unusual.
  11. I have been dropping by the Wal-Mart @ Uptown here in Victoria which is usually first in the area but no luck. Of course we are usually a week or more behind the rest of the country for some reason...damn ferries.
  12. Well, If you try to do any sort of detailing of sidewalks and populate them with people and benches and bus stops you will find that they are not too big, but to each his own. I find this system to be cheaper overall than brick-building roads for me. Re: foamboard - I find it at local art supply, craft supply or stationary shops like Staples or Office Depot. It is used by architects to build models and schools kids for various projects. I googled "Amazon foamcore" (an alternate term) and came up with this right away: http://www.amazon.com/Pacon-Foam-Board-22X28-Whitet-5/dp/B00IWSHEB0 . I would suggest you look in stores first before you pay shipping on a light but very bulky package as they come in poster-sized sheets.
  13. Wow, it has been great following this project and well worth the wait for the great photos. They really add a nice setting to a lovely model. I will have to dive into the Flickr madness when I have more than a few minutes to appreciate the details.
  14. I do it by using sidewalks. I add a two-plate sidewalk to the roadplates AND to the modular. When put together I add lamposts, garbage cans, firehydrants etc to "join" the sections together. You can see what I mean here: This above is a custom modular corner. This one shows a Fire Brigade (with modified sidewalk) and a Pet Shop side by side. Of course, you can see where I forgot to bring my modified sidewalk section with the driveway for the FB. If you do not want to change the sidewalks on the modulars you can raise them up to the same height as their neighbours using another baseplate or something called foamboard. I have a several 10"x10" sections which I slip under my LUG-mates modulars to make them compatible.
  15. My son uses one of these for most of his LEGO storage. One suggestion I will make is to replace the bigger bins so that all of the bins but one are the smallest bins possible. It is nearly pointless to try and find anything in the larger bins - except baseplates and BURPs, hence the single larger bin. An oddly connected hint: We also got him (when very much younger) an IKEA carpet with roads woven into the pattern to play with cars. Now it is used a a place to dump the contents of a bin to search for a part. When the part(s) are found we can pick up the whole carpet, hold the sides up to make a half-tube, and then dump the lot back into the bin. Keeps things very tidy with hardly any effort and the carpet keeps the parts from moving too much while searching.
  16. You inspired a little building last weekend and I finally took a couple of pictures including: I have been wanting to do a delivery truck for a while. I like the taller pallets so I had a little more room to work with. Not really meant to be seen except under a pallet.
  17. Love the pop-top! Really nice.
  18. Wow, that is obsessive attention to detail. Well done sir!
  19. Loving it, The exterior and interior are great. The garden is a great addition. One odd question: what is the white object that looks like a set of trapdoors beside the pool table?
  20. I'm glad the thread got revived. I missed this first time around and it is quite nicely done.
  21. SubTheme: The Lost City Deep in the jungles, lost to history, a legendary city full of gold and gems beyond all imagining lies waiting to be rediscovered. Faction 1: The Buccaneers Sometimes partners, sometimes competitors, a pair of pirate captains lead their loyal crews in a race to find the treasures of the fabled Lost City. Faction 2: The Natives Respecting the homes of the ancestors and fiercely protective of their lands, the natives of Bricquador lay traps and ambushes for those foolish enough to seek a way through to the City of the Gods.
  22. I think many are wondering about how to support an idea. I assumed there will be a poll after the deadline and the current thread is just for brainstorming/pitching ideas.
  23. 1. If you are not going to have any curves you might get away with a total of 10 studs clearance (total space including the track) as stock trains are six-wide with bits hanging off. 2. "Modern" LEGO vehicles are mostly 6-wide, so allowing for some room to maneuver and for the occasional wider vehicle each lane should be at least 9-wide. Wider if you want on-street parking etc. Painting on the table would allow for lots of room. If you are going to build on baseplates and paint roads I would suggest you paint the entire table in chalkboard paint and simply build whatever you like adding lines using chalk. You could have narrow lanes one day and with a quick wipe down a major highway the next day.
  24. SubTheme: Merchant Adventurers Ships and trading posts owned and operated by The Company of Merchant Adventurers is under constant threat from the Armada de Verde as they sail the Spanish Main. Faction 1: The Company Protected by Company soldiers (bluecoats?) the CMA trading vessels explore the islands and coastlines of Bricquador in search of any opportunity for easy profit. Faction 2: The Armada A collection of pirate crews under the command of Capitan Juan de Verde, notorious scourge of the Spanish Main. The greedy pirates sail in vessels small and large with a wide variety of weapons and national costumes of these mixed crews.
