  1. I saw an interesting kids LEGO table on Pinterest where the mom had glued baseplates around the edge only. This allowed the bulk of the plates to be moved freely but prevented any movement off the table. She had cut them to fit the table and so they were something like 13 studs but a purpose-built table using "LEGO dimensions" could have a single "layer" of 16x32 baseplates around the edges. Interesting idea anyway.
  2. I was a Navy Brat (Halifax Ottawa and PMQ's in Esquimalt). A couple of fellow members of VicLUG are serving members. I don't envy their occasional six month deployments except when the get to stop in San Diego and make the short hop to Legoland California. At least they are willing to pick the occasional set up for me. :) BTW I loved Ottawa when I was a kid (so long ago that I watched an Olympic soccer game at Landsdowne Park).
  3. Welcome aboard from the Left Coast! Whereabouts in the Great White North are you?
  4. Pretty annoying for sure. I was able to force a picture into whatever "recent" algorithm they use for cover photos by updating the description. I tried again and it was available in the choices when it had not been before.
  5. re: layout - Having recently uploaded and started using FlickStacker on my iPad the new web-interface doesn't seem so radical or awful. re: Pro Account - I guess I will enjoy my "ad-free" experience for a while but I think I am unlikely to pay double the amount next year just to get rid of ads.
  6. Do you really need a full baseplate at the front to run a single track? Using 16x32 "half-baseplates" would give you some options to create depth. If you want to keep that depth perhaps you could build some small buildings on that side of the street to fill the gap a bit?
  7. I wish! The kind of civilian parts I want are things like the lumberjack's axe and mechanic's toolbox. There have been plenty of opportunities for these elements to appear outside the CMF with no luck. Hopefully someday I guess.
  8. Looks good. I signed up and look forward to trying them out. A much-needed part and Kick Starter seems like such a good platform for getting these sort of things done at much less risk to the manufacturer.
  9. Loved that show, love your Eagles!
  10. Very nice. Thanks for providing instructions!
  11. Lovely build! I can hear the theme song in my head now.
  12. Amazing how often we need to remind ourselves of this. These look like great sets for 7-9 year olds.
  13. I was just writing about this on Classic-Castle and it bears repeating:
  14. Tillicum Mall here in Victoria looks like it could open day! Yes, I'm getting unreasonably excited.
  15. Welcome aboard from the Pacific coast!
  16. Geki, I guess you never took a basic economics course. Selling a clearance item for 80% off in no way indicates the profit margin of an item's suggested retail price. In the retail world it can actually be cheaper to give something away rather than have the stores return the unsold items to the manufacturer. Since you are making a thinly veiled complaint about the price of LEGO I suggest that this thread be locked or merged with one of the many other discussions of the price of LEGO.
  17. Nope, sorry but your post has totally failed to make me "think outside the box". I was going to write more but then I realized it would a) accomplish nothing, and b) probably result in me getting in trouble for being "negative".
  18. ^ This. I am also very interested to see what you achieve - and only slightly concerned about the health effects of breathing in the fumes.
  19. The pics are links.
  20. Oh, good. Glad I wasn't the only to wonder WTF he is talking about. ;)
  21. I have to say I agree that the arches are really nice looking. They give the wall a nice texture.
  22. Lovely. I can see why the rigging would take such a long time. :)
  23. Don't know if it is some or all (except Quebec) but my local Chapters here in BC is part of the LEGO products sale. Hope you enjoy your visit. One word of warning however: all prices in Canada are about 25% higher than in the U.S. right across the board. You may want to adjust your budget before you get the store. :)
  24. Sweet! Maybe we'll meet up @ BrickCon in Seattle. There are usually a few from your side of the Salish Sea down there. It is well worth the trip in October.
  25. According to BrickWiki the original character in Billund was Chief Longears.
