This should end this whole stupid discussion. Get over your entitlement issues and enjoy what you do have.

Exactly. I also like the idea of a person clutching multiple minifigs in their hands like treasure.

I like "clutch" as well.

What elements of LEGO are copyrighted?
tedbeard replied to DasMatze's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am not a lawyer, but looking at what you have provided above I cannot see how you would be in any legal trouble with LEGO. Anyone who tells you it is a problem is most likely a lawyer looking for a fat payday. As posted above if MB and the other clone brands can use round studs and the same measurements for basic bricks I cannot see how anyone could say there is a conflict with diamond-shaped studs and a totally different set of measurements. -
Hey Dirk, welcome - even if you travel on the dark side ;) Just FYI the link you provided leads to a "Blog not found" message. Perhaps because you a mistake: it is "LEGO" not that American bastardization "LEGOs" ;)

I might be wiling to pay $5 for the standard and $3 for a half-size version but no more.

Yeah, from the first time I saw this I have been saying WTF? It was especially funny because that first time I saw it was when our LUG did a display at the movie theatre on the preview night and we used our standard custom-engraved-bricks DO NOT TOUCH signs.

Re: Treasure Pals Is anyone else concerned about the $20 per "brick" cost? I generally assume that these early Kickstarter prices are special deals and that the final retail cost will be higher. If that is true this product is ridiculously over-priced for LEGO storage. Heck @ $20 it is way more than I would be willing to spend to store my brick. At $20 per brick I would have to spend at least $3-4k to store my relatively small-medium collection! Cute if you are buying a couple for kids but as a long-term, bulk storage solution?

LOL now that you say it that is all I can see. Great for beach-related MOCs. -
I still don't understand the point. Is there a problem getting BrickJournal in the UK? Is there really that much of a demand for a printed magazine to compete with the digital editions of BrickJournal, RailBricks and HispaBrick?

Really?!?! How about if we have to have threads dedicated to this crap, EB creates a subforum so those of us who are LEGO fans don't have to see it. Even better, how about fans of crap brands go build their own forum. Just because someone is a LEGO fan AND a fan of X does not mean it is appropriate here. I know lots of LEGO trainheads are also into HO, N and other model railway scales/systems. Should we start having threads and sections for that stuff as well? I think not.

Ooooh, that is even better! Don't like that one as much. I like the cannons on white better for some reason. -
^ My Ghostbusters set was missing some parts.

Why only is it Mega Blocks?
tedbeard replied to samurai-turtle's topic in Forum Information and Help
Because Lincoln Logs is an irrelevant toy that does not really compete with LEGO and thus has few "haters" while MB has a long history of being a cheap-megablocks ripoff of our beloved favorite toy. Many of us have had the distinct displeasure of buying bins or bags of "LEGO" at garage sales or thrift stores only to get home and exclaim "Dammit! It's all F#@%!#& Megabloks!" -

You are right, these two designs complement each other nicely, are obviously connected and yet are easily distinguished. We need more choices like this in the final poll. -
Fantastic army. Very nice scene as well, great way to display a long column. I have got to get a cornu from Brick Warriors for my Romans it looks great.

Yes, I think this is the way to go. I love the barrel to represent the mercantile aspect and the crossed cannons (which I think look OK on the saltire) for the guard. -

That is a strange assertion given that we are heavily basing this on the VOC. The Haven Guard are a part of the company and would operate under the company flag just as the military arms of the VOC and East India Company did. At most you would want the same "background" with a different badge. ie. the orange w/white saltire for both: crossed cannons for the guard and crossed anchors (as above) for the company (or alternatively simply the plain saltire without badge for the company). In no case can you design them separately as they must at least complement each other. -
Wow that is colossal. Although to be fair it is more of a palace than a villa.

Can I just vote for the standard "Imperial Guard" design as shown above (w/red facings) now please. -
And good for you. You however do not represent the majority view over the last 40 years. And it was clear that in the era of standard smiley faces the "girls" were identified by the use of alternate hair styles and later by the introduction of "female" faces. The default in the 70's, 80's and 90's was that these figures were male. That stereotype was still seen and going strong in the direct to video movie The Adventures of Clutch Powers released in 2010. The hero is surprised when a minifig removes a full-face motorcycle helmet (and thus unable to see the face) and it turns out to be a girl because he assumed it was a male character - a trope BTW that still appears in live-action movies. I'm glad that so many here were progressive enough to see these figs as females but it was not that common.
-
Yes, by any objective measure representations of females and non-white races has been problematical in LEGO sets. You can cherry-pick the data all you like, ignore or falsify data in support of YOUR pre-conceived agenda, but that will not change the facts. You can pretend that when you look at a LEGO spaceman you see no gender, but just like the "colour-blindness" of Steven Colbert, it is all an act. The default smiley face spacemen were always depicted as and understood to be, well, spaceMEN by the vast majority of kids and parents in the western world.

^ Congratulations! Glad to hear it went well.
